I enjoyed reading Steve Kawamura's short memoir of his career as a paramedic (which I believe is still ongoing). There were a lot of interesting stories that remind you of the difficult situations and horrors our first responders deal with on a daily basis. Things that would take us regular folk years to process, but we expect them to get back up and head out to the next call.
It was a reminder of how I could never be a paramedic. Not everyone gets a happy ending, no matter how much you might try.
This book chronicles Steve Kawamura’s experience as a paramedic in Hamilton, Ontario. Hamilton, like every paramedic service, comes with a unique set of challenges. Steve rises to every challenge with a combination of enthusiasm and grace. This memoir is an honest and compelling recounting of his journey. If you want to know what it is really like to work as a paramedic, this is the book for you. Steve will have you laughing, crying and feeling like you are right there in the ambulance with him. An excellent read!
