What would you do if you found yourself inside the book you were writing?
Tanith just wanted an escape. Away from the mean girls on campus, away from her cheating ex-boyfriend, and away from her ordinary, humdrum life.
A why-choose fantasy romance with five different men, all equally interested in her, provided the perfect diversion... until the day one of the characters shows up at her door. The next thing she knows, she's inside the world she created, where nothing is exactly as she imagined it. The feelings are deeper, the men are more unpredictable and the dangers more real.
Can they figure out what's happening before they reach the end of the story?
Out of My Depth is a light-hearted, standalone, why-choose fantasy romance, suitable for readers over the age of 18.
If you're looking for sweet and steamy romance, you've come to the right place! I started reading romance novels in my early teens and writing them soon afterwards; growing up in small towns in western Canada, there wasn't much else to do! Luckily, those early stories have never seen the light of day.
Now, I live in the UK with my husband and daughter and spend my free time diving into magical or just romantic settings where true love (almost) always wins.
FMC is a mediocre writer who gets pulled into her own story. She quickly discovers that she can change things on the fly with her phone, but a recurring concern throughout the book is that she’s got to be careful with what she changes, using her phone as little as possible, lest she run out of battery. This drove me NUTS. On day one of her journey, all she had to do was (while she was writing herself out of her kitty pajamas) add a line that said: “I dressed for a hike and threw some essentials in my bag for an overnight trip. Clean underwear, a comb and toothbrush, a bar of soap and a solar charger for my phone.” There. Sorted. And whenever she needs another something-or-other that she could’ve conceivably brought from home, she can simply scroll back and add it to the list. God, we wasted so much time worrying about that.
Anyway, the character’s lack of ingenuity when it comes to using her newfound powers of writing ends up not mattering in the end, because the whole point of the story is about bringing people together to end bloodshed and conflict before it escalates past the point of no return. Everyone gets a happy cozy ending except for the villain.
It was interesting to see the contrast of the FMC’s silly tropey writing and her actual choices when faced with the same challenges—it is so much easier to torment our characters rather than ourselves, is it not? And the plot did have some interesting beats that weren’t always what I expected. Still, by the end, I wasn’t overwhelmed with joy at seeing their journey come to its conclusion. Ultimately, a self-aware lame/horny/tropey story is still a lame/horny/tropey story, just with a lampshade on it 😉
Out of My Depth is a lighthearted, standalone, why-choose, fantasy romance by Melody Tyden.
College student Tanith unexpectedly gets pulled into the fantasy world she created for her current work in progress. Unsure if it’s a dream or reality, she decides to accept the quest to find the witch and determine why she and the five men from her character's harem are all there.
This was an interesting concept and a learning experience for Tanith and her characters. Seeing streets with identical white, square boxes for buildings and a lack of furniture allowed Tanith to view her writing from another perspective, make edits to give it more detail and improve her writing skills as the story progressed. However, as she finds out, the author isn't always in control of the story.
With a group of five men, all different species, and a forest full of 'stimulation', this book is spicier than it looks.
For a moment, the final chapter had me wishing it wasn't so, but all does work out in the end with an HEA.
Thank you once again for writing great book. At first it was such slow burn book. It took a while for me fully get in the mood for the start till the end. . But once it took for a while she w started to get
I loved tanith and her guys. Pulled into the world of her imagination the group sets out to find out why and how. Along the way getting to know each other and the pleasures they can enjoy with one another. This was another great melody tyden read.
The cover of this book is very unassuming to the sizzling fantasy romance the story entails. The premise is interesting, but I needed help to read some parts of the book. The book is a new adult, and I like the author's pov in the story and the adventure. Some were predictable, but the ending was very well done. There were a few points in the story that I considered not finishing. However, I did enjoy the sizzling intimacy, the interspecies mating, and the multi-species reverse harem. This book is smutty.
Okay, the blurb of this book is exciting. Who wouldn't love to be part of what they are writing? I love the premise of the story.
Tanith is finding that college isn't the fresh start she thought it was. She is making friends, but they are few and far between. Of course, the worst day of her life inspired her to write again, and wow, what a story this could be. Wow, I mean, I think every book addicts dream of getting wished away from reality to a fantasyland.
Cadriel is an angel, and he finds himself in a new place, a serene meadow, with his brother, who is a demon. What this place is and why are prominent questions for the character in this book.
Aiqen is a Wyvern shifter in this unknown universe. He is swoony and protective but a bit conceited. The author also introduces Tymanus, the centaur, and Leith, the Merman. This is very surreal between reading a book that isn't entirely written and living in a fantasy world that is devolving as it is written.
This book gets steamy with some outdoor experiences, but it is still strange. I have read a lot of this author's writing, and although this story is intriguing, it might be the most bizarre I have read yet. Ah, so we do get intimacy in the normal outdoorsy way and outdoorsy with multiple people. Talk about fantasy come to life, especially if you like smutty books.
The epic adventure-type storyline and mystery begin their current predicament, which is okay. Still, this book is a struggle for me to read. Of course, the first adventure has to lead to more sizzling fun.
Things wrap up in this weird maze of a story with so many interconnected puzzle pieces, but of course, the last bit is sizzling hot, but the end goes back to reality.
I love the author's POV in this story. And it has some redeeming qualities, so it wasn't my favorite story by Melody Tyden, but it was an okay read.
The author incorporates some autumn vibes with the holiday celebration in the book's epilogue.
A fun/wholesome book (whilst also being NSFW). I loved the idea of the author being thrown into her own story & the fantasy element of each of the characters!
