You ever met somebody and knew right away they were going to be your forever?Yea, me neither. But when my path crossed with Devyn Banks, I knew she would leave a stain that was hard to wash out.
One night stand turned body guard, slow burn, CW stalker and it’s a huge theme of the book so you have quite a bit of page time, also emotionally unavailable father, domestic violence, killing an abuser.
Devyn and Derrick were hot, cute, and steamy from their one night stand on page 1! Can you call it a one night stand if it was in the back room of a lounge? Idk. But it was 🥵
Devyn had a stalker and who is her security detail? Yep. Derrick. Devyn is a stubborn FMC if I ever met one…and I’ve met a lot. But after only a couple of weeks of protecting her from this ex, Derrick knows that he’ll do anything…eliminate anyone for the hardheaded businesswoman who stole his heart in that lounge.
I loved Shon’s incorporation of mental health, PTSD, therapy, and ADHD.
This forced proximity/slow burn/bodyguard romance kept me interested and I loved the character development of the main characters. This one will go on my shelf.
Idk how Shon does it but she literally never misses and this novel is another example of it. I can't even express into words how much I love Devyn and Derrick and how well they were written. Like the book ended and I wanted to flip right back to the first page and start over again. I'm obsessed
Shon warned that the characters maybe annoying with their back and forth. But I wasn’t annoyed once. I understand why Devyn was so hesitant when it comes to love and relationship.
Derrick knew what he wanted from day one but all he did was fight his own heart. This man cooked breakfast every morning, taught Devyn how to shot and fight. He had no choice but to keep her safe as Devyn’s bodyguard but he couldn’t keep his love away.
I truly enjoyed this book. Ricardo was such a weirdo for no reason. He couldn’t have what he wanted and showed his whole ass.
Usually I LOVE Shon's romances but for some reason this one fell a bit flat for me? Derrick was mean sometimes (which isn't excused by a cold personality and/or exterior) and just not someone I was like excited about as a love interest for Devyn. Devyn was also not as fleshed out as a character as I would have liked for her to be, honestly. All in all, the tension was alright and they worked as couple (near the end) but kinda expected better😭
I have been trying to read all of the physical books in my bookshelf lately and finally got around to this one. It was an okay read. Reminded me of one of those days you watch a random lifetime movie/hallmark, with a small tinge of drama.
I liked Derrick. Wish there was more of just their relationship.
I enjoyed this read on the Beach and was fully invested. Devyn was as intense character. Derrick was a pillar of composure. Dudes the piece of trash R all need to be on NARCISSISTIC Island left to fend for themselves. Fabulous Read⭐️
What took me so long to read this, I loved Devyn and Derrick 😍🥰❤️🫶🏾 Devyn’s dad PMO This is one night stand, forced proximity/bodyguard, he falls first & I loved it
“I’m in love with so many things about you that it feels wrong trying to limit them to a list.”
I can definitely understand the frustration with Devyn. She didn't take the threat seriously and put herself in danger. She was definitely acting like a little beotch, but sadly that's reality. I've had friends put themselves in far worse danger knowing that the person was bat shit crazy. Or underestimating how deranged they were. She might of owned a business but she wasn't smart. If I could of reached in this book and rung her little neck I would.
I thought Charli would be my forever favorite from this series, but stubborn ass prideful ass Devyn just took the number one spot! This was such a great read and I love the way Shon always manages to seamlessly work in mental health and self worth themes into her stories. I loved this
this book was just ok. the fmc, Devyn, got on my nerves! Devyn was involved with a man, Richard, who turned out to have a wife. after Devyn ended their relationship, Richard began stalking her. Devyn's father hires a bodyguard Derek (for three months) to protect her.
despite Richard showing up places, leaving notes on her cars, etc, Devyn does not take the stalking serious. Richard would call her from random numbers and she wouldn't tell Derek. she'd also spot his car on the road and not say anything. girl got on my nerves!
Derek had to be the worse bodyguard in history. Richard kept getting close to Devyn. he'd be at the restaurants they attended, in her job, everywhere. and he drove a telsa that not too many people drove and Devyn would spot his car but Derek never did. This dude choked her out in the bathroom of a restaurant and Derek was none the wiser. not sure how Devyn felt safe around him. her family should've demanded a refund.
it was difficult to believe in their romance with all this happening around them. just bc two people are in the same proximity doesn't mean they'll have chemistry. you gotta make me believe it. I didn't believe it. nonetheless, when I suspended reality and just accepted their love, I thought some of the things Derek did for Devyn were sweet.
I did not like this book, which is surprising because I’ve really enjoyed everything else I’ve read by Shon so far. I don’t know if it was the tone, the way the plot felt like it was trying too hard, or the lack of chemistry between the characters…but something just didn’t work for me. The relationship felt superficial, filled with sexual tension but lacking the deep emotional connection I was hoping for. It just didn’t hit the way I expected it to and that’s okay.
That aside, the spice was great. That was honestly the highlight of the story for me. But even the plot twists and climactic moments felt unnecessary or forced. Like, why was her ex the way he was? I get that he was obsessed, but what made him that way? There wasn’t enough backstory or buildup to make his behavior make sense. I didn’t understand how she found out about his fiancée, how their relationship ended, or why he just snapped the way he did.
And don’t even get me started on how he died it made no sense. The male main character has a gun to his head, makes him apologize for harassing her, and then somehow, he still manages to grab her hand and that’s what sets everything off? It felt like the author was just throwing dramatic elements together without making sure they were logical or cohesive.
It was all over the place, and I just didn’t enjoy it.

So tell me why the whole time I was reading Unstoppable by Shon, Beyoncé’s “Bodyguard” was playing on a loop in my head. Like… the lyrics were narrating this book. 😂 We jump in with heat and spice immediately and y’all know I love when a book doesn’t make me wait 150 pages for the action. A one night stand right out the gate? Yes ma’am, go ahead and snatch my attention! I was locked in. Now, the forced proximity trope? Shon delivered. Devyn needs protection, Derrick gets assigned as her bodyguard, and boom we’ve got tension, history, and close quarters. I wanted it to keep building, but if I’m being honest… after that first spicy scene, the chemistry kind of fizzled for me. I wasn’t really feeling that slow burn or lingering tension that usually comes with this kind of setup. Also… Devyn, baby. As the FMC, she had me side-eyeing her 😩 That said it was still a quick, easy read with a solid concept. If you’re in the mood for something fast paced with spice upfront, and you don’t mind a little less tension in the middle, this might still be your jam. Final Thoughts: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Tropes: One night stand, forced proximity, bodyguard romance Spice Level: Off the charts at first, then… polite lol Vibe: Dramatic, fast, a lil messy
This was a bodyguard book and I don’t have many thoughts it was a slow burn and baby I mean slowwww. I don’t tropically go for slow burns because I have a short attention span. Grab me right away bookie. It did to some extent cause they was hunching in the first chapter lol but it didn’t keep it all the way through. This was a woman running from her violent stalker ex and her father hired a bodyguard to keep her safe. She was a brat towards him and was not certain she needed one. She was convinced that this man was not a threat to her. (Spoiler alert he was) I feel like if she would’ve just listened and not been such a turd this man would I rn have been able to get as close to her as he did, as many times as he did cause what’s the use of having a BG if you not keeping it real with him? The MMC was a protector by nature he didn’t care what he had to do to keep this lady safe even though she tried to evade at every turn. Anyways y’all 3.5 not many jokes I can make about this one DV is never funny.

This is my first book by this author, and I have to say—she’s off to a great start. The Store kept me engaged. I really would hope for some resolution between the relationship with her, her dad as well as Derrick and his mom.
SIDENOTE (aka “Don’t come for my stars!”): Just a quick heads-up—my ratings are based on whether I’d reread the book or add it to my personal collection, not the quality of the story itself. So here’s how I roll:
5 🤩 = I’m obsessed with everything—the storyline, the author, and the narrators! I read it yearly and own ALL the copies: physical, digital, and Audible. I can basically recite this book. It lives in my private library. 4 🌟 = Loved the story, the author, and the narrator (if it’s audio). I’d happily reread it when I need a solid comfort read. 3 ✨ = Enjoyed the story, the author, and definitely the narrators. A great addition to my yearly reading challenge—likely to revisit if it’s part of a series I need to refresh.
Whew. Talk about a slowburn mixed with thrill. Watching Deyvn and Derricks connection grow was amusing. I loved how unrushed and realistic it was. Both were battling with individual traumas that kept them from accepting the budding emotion between them. Then the danger that lurked in the shadows heightened everything, but forced them both to accept the inevitable. It was beautiful and heartbreaking—Dev’s fears and the pain of not feeling like she was worthy of love was immense. Derrick fighting his desire for her was torture, but I understood the reasoning. The ending was fitting and I’m happy that it kept with the pace of the story. No rush to marriage and babies, just growing in love. It allowed this to feel real.
Now typically I don’t like slow burns (cause they burn to slow for my liking), but hammercy!!! This one here burned like the finest Tennessee whiskey down a dehydrated throat!
Devyn & Derrick both had their moments when I wanted to choke slam them into the Pacific Ocean, but when the wick of that candle finally burned hot, the firecracker explosion between them two was carving! My goodness!
Derrick falling first?! Or at least admitting to falling first?! TOP TIER! LOVED THIS!!
Shon simply never fails. The characters stories are always interesting and complex. The author warned readers that Devyn’s character would be frustrating but I didn’t get that at all. I felt every emotion Devyn was feeling. Every crazy reaction she had was valid idc idc idc lol
The slow burn reallyyyy burned on this one lol The prologue is on fire and so is the end but the middle is pure angst and tension. When the Derrick was described as 6”4 240 pounds… good lawd.
Another banger from Shon. I love a good slow burn and then you add forced proximity on top and I’m guaranteed to eat it up! Devyn and Derrick had chemistry from the first meeting and even though they both tried to ignore it I could feel it through the pages. Devyn definitely frustrated me but I also understood her, so it didn’t bother too much. Derrick and them declarations though…..if my man don’t feel that way about me he can keep it. Anyway read this book.
Devyn hooks up with a man at a bar who later becomes her bodyguard to protect her from her (stalker) ex. Tensions run high as Derrick works to keep her safe. He twindles with her heart which confuses the poor girl bloody but in the end, love overcomes all. The buildup was intense and intriguing. Devyn and her honesty was so delightful and engaging but Derrick would have worked on his communication skills. He changed emotions like a hot potato or a chameleon. The ending clips of their life were the cutest and ALL epilogues should be done in such a manner! So PERFECT !!!
I really enjoyed reading this. I have to say I really connected with Devyn and her emotions. It was my favorite part of reading this book. Her feelings/ emotions felt so real to me. More than anything, her character was relatable in that sense. I’ve been a fan on Shon since reading the Kings Town series and I would love to read about Ericka and Jonah too. There’s a great story brewing there for sure.
3.25🌟 One thing about me? I love miss Shon’s writing down! I really liked this book and it dealt with a few heavy topics, Devyn did annoy me and frustrate me sometimes, just as Shon said she would😂 Derrick cared about her more than he liked to admit but his sweet actions spoke volumes even though he confused her with saying the opposite of what he was showing her. I do wish we got more fluffy moments of the two of them together, they deserved to be happy. It was a nice enjoyable read!
Look, I’m a simple lady. I see Shon and I buy it. And for this book…. I’ve been WAITING ON THIS ONE (the Tiktok girlies can relate)
I fell in love with Devyn and Derrick from the teaser that was posted on TikTok and I was so ready for it that I had reminders on. The plot was engaging and their chemistry was ‘chef’s kiss’ 🤌🏽😘
I wasn’t expecting the craziness in this book chile, but I should’ve known by now - it’s a book by Shon, there’s always craziness.
I am a lover of all things romance but slow burns 🔥 are not my thing at all. I am proud to say that one of my favorite authors has made a liar out of me. Derrick had a choke hold on me from the first "Speak". Devyn's struggle with anxiety and ADHD made me feel seen as a black women with both of these mentally taxing conditions. The spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶/5 The will they/won't they gave everything. Read the book.
4.75 stars When I saw the promo for this book I was interested, and I’m so glad I read this. It definitely is a slow burn but I couldn’t put this book down! I needed to know what was going to happen next with Devyn and Derrick. Adding the element of Ricardo had me thinking and wondering when he was going to make an appearance. My only issue was with Devyn not taking the threats seriously at first but once I kept reading it all made sense. Wonderful job!
I hated what the female lead had to go through. At the same time, it led her to the male lead. I love the male lead mainly because of his personality and how he shows his love to those near him. He is straightforward. The female lead is great because of her confidence despite feeling unlovable. She does not wallow in self pity nor destructive behavior. Despite the beginning, this is a slow burn romance. But so worth it.
🎧 Okay the opening scene drew me in and I just knew the book was going to ramp up from that point. Nope. We get thrown into her memories of that encounter and this stalker ex situation that ends up taking a lot of the book which led to her father hiring private security which ends up being the one night stand guy from the opening scene.
Then the books follows them are they navigate their working relationship. Slow burn romance.
