"To some, waking is a pleasant sensation. A night of restfulness brings a morning of clarity and refreshment, and the day springs upon one with all of its hidden chance and promise. I have come to detest the morning. I cannot know what it will reveal for me, for several of my mornings have brought me only confusion, pain, shame . . . and blood."
As Britain's war with the French and Indians rages on, rather than enlist, Fenn Bancroft has decided to forgo a gentleman's lifestyle to try his hand as a back country farmer. He has no idea that in escaping one conflict, he will be thrust into another. One which will not only risk his body, but his very soul.
Worldly-wise trapper, Gregory, has agreed to help Fenn reach his destination, but along the way, the two are attacked by a mysterious creature, and Gregory has gone missing. Alone and unaccustomed to life in the wilds, Fenn treks an unknown land, searching for clues that might help him find his friend. Until the first full moon, that is, when Fenn awakes with blood on his hands and no memory of how it got there.
What started as a hopeful journey west becomes a desperate struggle against an evil that is using Fenn's flesh to carry out its ghastly crimes. With the help of some sympathetic mortals, Fenn must find a way to exist as a man beset by a monster . . . but his true identity cannot be concealed for long.
First off, well done on your first book! I was very impressed and entertained by the way this story is told. Normally I am not interested in this genre, lean more on thriller and romance. But i wanted to give this a try. Within the first 4 chapters I was hooked. I absolutely needed to see how Fenn and Gregory's adventures played out... And boy, I was not disappointed! And I already can't wait to start the next book in the series. Bravo :)
If it’s possible to make fiction feel authentically real, it would be this novel. The way the plot progresses and characters react feels as real as one can with the idea of beasts roaming the lands on nights of a full moon.
I’m a monster fan and I’m a big fan of this book. I won’t go into spoilers however I will say whatever you expect to happen this book will surprise you. Enjoy!
An original story, finally for the werewolf genre. But still all the great old fashioned werewolf context. Love a fact based fiction story. This particular one taking place in late 1700's. So happy there is a sequel
What a wonderful, well written and entertaining read. Not you usual werewolf trope and more interesting. Would recommend to anyone who likes this genre
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a wonderful Werewolf shifter story. It started a little slow for me. But picked up nicely. The story was set back in a time (1757) of horse and buggy travel, which gave it a classic horror feel. I will definitely be reading book 2. I'm looking forward to seeing where Fenn and Gregory journey takes them .
