I thought we were untouchable, safe from The Registry and the invaders who essentially turned my people into their slaves. But my idyllic life was brought to an abrupt end when the Enforcers ripped us from our homes, tearing families apart. I was certain my defiance of the new laws would surely result in my death until I heard that fateful Breeder. Not only was I selected to breed with one of the very creatures I grew to fear and hate. But I was chosen for him. Their leader. So fierce, and cruel. So why do I tremble when he stares at me with his mesmerizing green eyes? Or tremble when he touches me. Why does he make me forget what his people have done to mine, what he’s done to me? I am now his to do with whatever and however he pleases. And I’m left to wonder, if death would have been preferable.

This Book Was Not Edited.

Couldn’t immerse myself in the story because there were at least two errors per page - tense usage, typos in the form of wrong or misspelled words as well as jumbled wording, and random quotation marks. The most egregious errors though were the fact that a character’s eye color changed from when they were first introduced to when mentioned in the remainder of the book, and a character’s named changed as well. There is NO way this book was edited. Main characters were OK - not sure I’ll remember their details in a month.

DNF @36% even though I knew much, much earlier. The few interactions the hero & heroine had were disturbing and I was disgusted while reading them. One scene, the hero is beating her to show her who’s boss and because she defended herself he held her under the water to “teach her a lesson”. In another scene, the hero wants to be intimate and the heroine doesn’t (from her POV) but the author wrote the scene like a love scene. So the longer it went on she more the heroine is trying to convince herself she’s enjoying what’s happening. It’s as if they’re implying that because the heroine is responding physically to his actions so if she’s patient she’ll start having fun. This is still assault so I was revolted…maybe the next person won’t be idk

Enjoyed!

This was a different type of read for me. I did enjoy the storyline and I definitely love Max and Noah together. I was hoping that her sister match would have been Max right hand man. I wanted to give this book a five star rating but I am giving it a 4.75 bc of of the wrong words used in certain sentences that I had a hard time trying to figure out what was being said. I still don't know what they were. I want to say vampires but I am not sure. I would recommend.

This book has potential but it didn't live up to it in my opinion. Firstly, there were way to many grammatical errors in this story. To the point where it was distracting. It seems as if she just finished the book and clicked publish without getting someone to edit it. Secondly, there was no buildup to the characters falling in love. Literally, Noah hated all of the superious yet when Magnus tells her about his sad childhood she starts to unthaw. Please be serious. His feelings were also unrealistic. He was cold and even a bit abusive at first but after they have sex and he gets a whiff of her scent suddenly he's obsessed? Wtf.

Maybe if this book was longer and she fleshed their relationship out more it could be believable. I also didn't love either character
Noah wasn't smart and didn't use her brain and feminine wiles to her advantage and Magnus was the cliché possessive , ultra dominant "alpha male" type that you find in most books. Nothing about them stood out.

I still like Eve Vaughn as an author but this book was a miss for me.

Interesting premise spoiled by errors and no romance

This book was riddled with so many errors that it rendered it barely readable. I pushed through because the premise was interesting and I am a sucker for the enemies to lovers trope. Well, this story had no romance whatsoever, we do not get to see how they fall in love they just have sex and have three conversations and all of a sudden it is love and feelings blah blah no getting to know each other or buildup. The author probably figured out that the emperor had no clothes and tried to explain the lack of romance as some scifi fated mates thing which most of the time and in this case is a cop out to get around actually writing a proper romance.

Literally, the FMC “I am essentially a sex/breeding slave for my alien overlord we have sex and omg feelings for my oppressor” and the MMC “humans are beneath me but I need to secure heirs so let me breed one of these slaves and OMG she has a magical vag and now I am in love it must be fate”.

I have enjoyed some of this author’s earlier works and while they also had errors I overlooked it but at this point there is no excuse for having a novel this poorly edited and the amount of errors in this book is ridiculous.

How much I wanted to give this a higher rating. Let’s start with the good. The smutty scenes were smutting their little tushies off. I was intrigued by the characters introduced. I can see at least five books in this series.
Let’s move on to the not so good. Noah got in my nerves quite a bit. I don’t know if it was her naivety and refusal to grow on her world views, but at least Magnus was there to jerk a knot in her tell. He started off a little too much, but I like darkness and he was right up my alley.
I really wish this book was a little longer just for the world building. That part seemed to be quite rushed.
Now for the horrible, the EDITING!!! Now listen, I can let some typos here and there go, but as this story went on it grammar went down hill. Typos, wrong homonyms, wrong names etc. I think Ms. Vaughn was really rushing to get this out because more errors occurred as the story went along.
Now, will I read the next stories in this series? Maybe if they look like Noah. It’s not often we get a dark skin brown girl in the sci-fi genre. Also, Ms. Vaughn is a great story teller and I have been rocking with her since I was in high school.

Wasn’t for me….

I’m a huge Eve Vaughn fan but this book just wasn’t for me. I was so excited for a new book by this author that within the first couple of chapters had me closing out my kindle. I never give up on a book though and hope that it’ll get better. I hate leaving negative reviews, it’s just certain things I couldn’t get over in the story and still root for the “alpha male”. Like who doesn’t love a strong alpha male, without giving any spoilers away, I’ll just say it didn’t quench the HEA lover in me lol. Yes the book has lots of typos, heated scenes, and characters I would like to read more about like Rhoman. Just wasn’t it for me

Good story...but

This was a pretty good story and plotline. I liked the characters and although it felt a little rushed in some parts, it wasn't so bad. But dear author, please, please, please invest in a good editor and or proofreader. Hell, I'd be more than happy to take on the role for you if you're interested (NOT JOKING!). What could have been a great story, was marred by grammatical errors and tense inconsistencies. I think a good editor would definitely elevate your books more.

3.75 Stars. (BW/ Caucasoid alien shifter) Kindle Unlimited Edition 222 page e-book.

Setting: Futuric Earth occupied by humanoid aliens and following near destruction due to climate change and war.

Trope: Human being subjugated. Human females being forced to with alien males. Fated mates.

Characters:
1. Magnus Xerhar, hero and leader of Sector 2, is a superiors sapien from the planet Zalanthia.
2. Noah, heroine is a black homo sapien female living in a secret compound with her sister and parents; when discovered and tested, was determined to be a 98.8 % match to be a breeder for Magnus.
3. Rhoman is Magnus' best friend, 2nd in command and confidant.
4. Jamie, Noah's baby sister.
5. Cayreen, Magnus'ex-lover.

The author created and interesting story around a fantasy world were homo sapiens almost destroyed Earth had not the shape shifting high functioning superiors sapiens from the planet Zalanthia returned to Earth and took the reigns of power. Although these aliens and humans are sexually compatible, the superious sapiens can only impregnate human women with a particular gene in their DNA and, they can test for that gene. Noah and Magnus are a near perfect match. Their relationship is contentious for a great deal of the story but they eventually fall in love. The next story will feature Jamie and Draken.

Interesting But Meh

I don't feel as if systematic oppression was effectively portrayed, especially given the huge power imbalance of the leads. The compatibility between superious and a breeder seemed to side step a lot more of the complicated nature of building a rapport between the two leads. In fact, the constant references to chattel slavery without the awareness or maybe acknowledgement that the current system was chattel slavery was disturbing.

It was difficult to get attached to the characters given that their relationship seemed more reliant on hormones and basic conversations of opposing ideals. For as dark as this universe is, I'm not sure if the various themes of slavery, sexual assault, and systemic prejudice were handled well. Felt more like set dressing to move along a plot that's most tropey sex. If the social issues weren't such a large crux of the universe, perhaps I would have enjoyed it more. Not many can handle the complexities of navigating dark topics and horrible circumstances of being objectified.

I have a lot of mixed feelings. Parts of the universe intrigue me, but I'm not sure if the author will handle it with gravity and seriousness of the tone they're trying to strike. I will continue the series for a couple more books to see if I enjoy them more

This

Although it was brutal, this is how I expect to see someone treated when someone is a true AH and power and entitlement goes to their heads. Most of the stories that start like this, end up with the MMC foregoing his warning of punishment for noncompliance for, "She was so beautiful, and her body called to me - it changed me in the 5 minutes that I've known her and I couldn't possibly treat her unkind." I'm left wondering, how did he get this title of ruthless brute, that's literally in the synopsis, if he goes soft at the first sight of a pretty face? We're expected to believe that he tears people apart with his bare hands, but he lets his defiant subjects go free uncorrected? However, I must admit that I clutched my pearls when she said that she wasn't ready but he carried on anyway.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I honestly wish it was longer so that some of the other characters were fleshed out, but also, I liked it so much I just wanted more of it.

An editor and proofreader would be beneficial. There were spelling and grammar errors and the General's name changed. Beyond that, I'm excited to start the next book.

DNF at 40%

From the moment Noah called a guard Mr. Meany because she didn’t know his name, I suspected I wasn’t going to make it. Add many grammatical issues and violence from Magnus toward Noah with the following 🚩response, and here we are.

“I’m not sure what came over me that made me toss her into the bath and hold her under the water. As a rule of thumb I don’t use force with my women, or any woman for that matter because at the end of the day, my strength gives me unfair advantage. I could have reprimanded her or even threatened her but I found myself doing the unthinkable. In the short time I’ve known Noah, she’s made me act out of character and I don’t like not being in control of my emotions.”

This book is a good start to Eve Vaughn's new THE REGISTRY series. I look forward to reading the upcoming books in the series.

Noah & Magnus are intriguing characters and I like their romance. There's a mental spark plus a lot of chemistry between them. I also enjoyed the main supporting characters of Maggie and Rhoman. Those are all strong positives.

Now that said, this book needs an editor to review & to be republished after that editing because there are lots of typos as well as grammar and punctuation issues. I would update my review stars from three to four if that happens.

a sleeper hit for me

I’m not into fantasy much at all but this grabbed me. I liked Noah, even if she wasn’t the full on kick ass heroine that we expect she still plays her role. The writing was good (Magnus’ speech about what we did to this world before they took over was a clear call out to the times we are in now. brilliant) although there are a handful of small typos that should have been caught by an editor or beta reader (heck I’d volunteer because I believe typos shouldn’t hold back independent writers). I will be waiting for Jamie and Draken’s story.

needs to be heavily edited

Overall, the story and premise were pretty good. A headstrong FMC and a NO bs MMC. Things progressed quickly between these two although it was giving enemies to lovers in the beginning. This story almost read like an omegaverse to an extent but leaned more towards science fiction with a hint of fated mates. The amount of grammatical errors really overshadowed this story for me from start to finish. A white woman calling Noah a beast and an animal doesn’t sit right with me.

Good Story... But a tough read

I have read many of Eve Vaughns books, they always offer great stories, dialouge and steamy sex . But... she always is weak in her editing. Mosy in simple things like too vs. To. But this book was a struggle to get through. Besides the need for basic grammer check. Context was off. the main protagonist has silver eyes in beginning then green eyes everywhere else.Even dialouge quotes were off Alot! I do look forward to the next book in the series, but I truly hope she gets a better editor to make the reading of it better.

Great read

This book really touched on so many issues with the world today. What we are doing to the planet, discrimination, preconceived notions. It really made me think. But it also had the perfect amount of romance and heat. These two who were thinking they were only meant to make a baby together end up falling for each other. They both fought their feelings but in the end they couldn’t help but admit their love for each other. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!

loved it but needs thorough editing

I would’ve given this 4 stars because of the thorough editing it needed but I enjoyed the story too much to give it 4 stars. I’m happy black authors are getting into this kind of genre and making it so engaging. There were times when some words and quotation marks were misplaced and it slightly distracted me but if you can ignore that, this was a lovely story and I’m looking forward to volume 2

Hmm

I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but this book kept me engaged to the point that I finished it in one day while doing mom duty. I was happy that Noah and Magnus wasn't just so over the top love at first sight and not too far on the other end of him being a complete brute. The story gave just enough for us to feel for Noah and dislike Magnus, while allowing him room to grow on us. I am happily awaiting Jamie's story.

If it weren't for the plot....

The spelling and grammar in this left much to be desired. I completely understand that the author probably goes through a process to have someone proof read or something like that so I hope she didn't lose too much coin on that because they could have done better. For me, it took away something from the continuity of the story. The plot, however, was amazing and I loved it. I still look forward to the next installment.

This is so good I am reading this over

Okay I have read a lot of your books, I can honestly say you have out done yourself on this series. I can’t stop reading it, I actually stop reading another series that I was going through to read this one. Since part 2 is available I’m going to get that instead of going back to my other story, I have got to find out what will happen to Jamie. I also want to know if Magus & Noah baby is a girl or boy.

The OG forever

Eve Vaughn is one of the first authors that introduced me to the BWWM genre. Until then, my interracial romance options were limited to Native American men and Caucasian women. It is more than evident with this book why she is the GOAT! I couldn't put this book down. There were no lulls or fluff. Every word was relevant to Noah and Magnus' story. Thank you Ms. Vaughn for introducing a brand new world. I can't wait to see what more you have in store for us.

hello my old friend

When I first got kindle eve was one of my first authors on my green list. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book from her and when I say I’m so happy I could kiss a pig. Having back to bad books with undeveloped characters has me in a book break. But now my girl has me back with this one! And now for another night of ignoring my responsibilities cause I’m definitely downloading the next one!

Mag & Noah kissing 🎶

When I started reading this I didn’t know what to expect, I was pleasantly amazed at how much I love this book. There was some drama as always but not over the top which I loved. I love the writing style of this author so I guess I shouldn’t have been!!! She has another book I love as well “Jilted” soooo good!!!! Now I’m on to Jamie’s world to see what’s going on with her.

4.5 Stars

OMG! This book is SO good. I love the World-Building. Why 4.5 Stars? The ending feels a little rushed AND there are editing issues. Still ... I Highly, highly Recommend: Read It!

Longer RTF ... soon!

PS This book goes on my favorite/read it again shelf.

Anxiously, awaiting Book 2.

Good Short Read!

Loved loved loved this book. Short, sweet, to the point! Kept my interest the whole way. Didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. Loved maggie she was really sweet❤️! Want to know more about Rhoman…. Only reason i didn’t give 5 stars was because of the grammer errors!

Silver Lining

Storms in our lives come when we least expect them. Like a tornado, they leave a path of destruction a mile wide. We’re left struggling to survive without a plan. But if we persevere, the calm and Silver Lining will appear. I recommend this novella that testifies to this fact. It may encourage you to reach for your own Silver Lining!

Great start to the series

Read this story so quickly and really loved both Magnus and Noah!!
I thoroughly enjoyed both characters and their chemistry was initially very negative but the relationship certainly changes. The dystopian world is well created with more world building to come in subsequent books. Looking forward to reading others in the series.
A great read!

I knew this would be good

I also knew that I would want to binge read this series. I also Knew I would hate to wait. Overall highly recommend. I love how Magnus stopped being a a$$ and how much he loved her. The ending felt a little rushed but it didn't take away from the quality of the story.

Shocked...

I honestly did not care for the beginning it was dry and was a struggle to stay engaged but when I got further into the meat and potatoes of the story, It was amazing. I feel like the "old text", as she calls it is talking about the world now and how it's in such chaos. I am ready for the next book!!!!
