The Ultimate Guide to Show Don't Tell: Drake's Brutal Writing Advice #3

Rate this book
Ah! So, you’ve returned, young bard. And bold enough to brave the viciousness of the Word-Wizard’s scorn a third time, are you? You bear the scars of our previous lessons and yet, you yearn for more? Intriguing. Well then, allow me to test your mettle once again.
In the merciless world of letters and ink, showing isn’t merely painting with brighter colors, it’s crafting entire sagas from the silken strands of your readers’ raw emotions.
Between the pages of this tome, we’ll go on another grand adventure into the terrifying realm of prose, stripped bare by my unparalleled pedagogical flair, of course. I guarantee you this - complete this journey, and you'll master this elusive craft. And if you prove unworthy, you can plunge into the grim, bottomless adverbial abyss, for all I care.
Yearn for this wisdom? Then steel yourself. Draw back this cover and face your destiny. Each page, a theater of war; every sentence, a skirmish with the banal. Allow me, dear pupil, to guide you in this magical transformation - the transmutation of feeble telling passages into vibrant, showing panoramas.
So, what say you, my apprentice? Are you ready to seize the crown of Show, don’t Tell and rule the realm of Grammeria?

I saw an author reviewing this book on her YouTube and interviewing Drake. I was well into writing my first novel at the time, with some understanding of POV, and battling away with what the Show and Don't Tell tool was and how it worked.

Granted, the style in which this book is written might catch you off guard at first, and get tiresome, but you do reach a point where you settle in.

I referenced what I learnt with own project and was able to identify everything within in my book that didn't work and was non immersive, it was literally magic. I came away suitably armed with the tools required to actually write a book.

As soon as I finished, I threw it at my brother (also writing a book) and demanded he read it too. His response was the same as mine. This book is gold.
