Ray Sedecki is being pursued by Jesus and Ray does not like it. Ray does not understand a God of love who allows bad things to happen to good people. When Ray is thrust into a new position at work, he meets a young woman named Rebecca, whom he immediately falls in love with. This results in a dilemma of epidemic proportions. (At least in Ray's mind) Ray wants no part of Christianity, yet wants to be a big part of Rebecca's life. But she draws a solid line in the sand. No Jesus/No Rebecca. Thus begins a series of events where Ray is forced to come to grips with life. Told from Ray's perspective, the story has humor, and tragedy, and heart. It is a reminder of God's redeeming love for all of us, through the good times and the bad.
"Every author attempts to be original, but few attain it. Sedecki's Dilemma is one of those delights, a "hole-in-the-wall" literary treasure. Geiser's debut novel presents the story of one man's religious journey, which at first glance seems commonplace but the more you read, the more its impact lingers, demanding another visit. But beyond the intrigue, which gains energy in each chapter, Geiser's greatest impact is his subtle use of apologetics. Every human is destined for a c risis of faith and Sedecki's Dilemma treats it with an urgency that is compelling but not preachy. This is a must-read." Mark Geiser presents a lighthearted love story while also delving into mind-boggling and soul-shaking questions about how God can allow tragedies to invade the lives of those whom God loves. Geiser keeps the mood light with sarcasm while, at the same time, giving serious attention to challenging matters. The author does not insult our intelligence with simplistic answers but consistently shares the hope of a Savior who loves us amidst our doubts and stands with us in the deepest pits of our lives.
I really enjoyed reading this book! I normally read historical fiction, so this was a sweet change. It was a reminder to me about how our prayers and actions play an important part in other peoples spiritual journeys. I also enjoyed the humor and sarcasm of the main character. Reminded me a lot of someone I know and love!
I read this wonderful, entertaining, and inspiring book. I loved it! The main character's sarcasm is really funny, to which I found myself laughing out loud many times. Life is messy. So many of us have very difficult journeys fraught with suffering and grief. It's so hard not to question God in our suffering. I recommend this book to anyone who may need to find hope and encouragement living out their own stories. I look forward to reading this author's next novel.
I read this wonderful and entertaining book. It was refreshing to have such a strong Christian message in a work of fiction. Very real characters and situations. Congratulations! Start reading it for free: https://a.co/8Xn3kQO
Another book which mysteriously came on to my radar, and subsequently on to my TBR, some time ago.
I was curious about the author calling his book "a Christian novel", and I still am. Not because it isn't an explicitly Christian novel, evangelical really, but because I'm not sure why the author wanted to advertise that fact on the cover. It would be an instant turn off for many people. I don't like the cover at all by the way.
Sedecki's Dilemma is written in first person so it's hard not to deduce that it's at least semi autobiographical. The novel tells the story of Ray Sedecki's journey to faith in Christ.
Apart from mundane passages concerning nothing much at all, it is full of events; shocking events. It's also laugh out loud funny, romantic and deeply moving.
Written using very simple prose, Sedecki's Dilemma is an absolute delight and I highly recommend this terrific story of the highs and lows of life, and the creator and sustainer of all life.
Great Book - very funny. I listened to the audio version by Casey Claiborne. Yes, I'm a little biased because he is my son....but he did a great job with his first audio narration. Right down his alley with multiple characters to play. Really brought the book alive.
