Kate Daniels [Dramatized Adaptation] #4

Magic Bleeds [Dramatized Adaptation]

Rate this book
Kate Daniels works for the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle—especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community.

When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar midway between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers there’s a new player in town. One who’s been around for thousands of years—and rode to war at the side of Kate’s father.

This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle. Because this time, Kate will be taking on family...

This dramatized audiobook also includes 3 short stories: Naked Dinner, Conclave and Awake.

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Oregon with their two children, three dogs and a cat. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.

Graphic Audio’s are amazing. I discovered how much I enjoy listening to them last year and I can’t get enough. As the tagline says: It’s a movie for your mind!

HAWT DAME the GA for Magic Bleeds was spectacular! I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for the next GA installment in the Kate Daniels series. It’s a full cast. My goodness I loved all the different voices and sound effects. I was on the edge and couldn’t stop listening. At the end we also get Curran’s POV’s and OMG outstanding.

My original review of the book as well as the original regular audio below:

~ 5 Magic Bleeds Stars ~

HAWT DAME! AMAZING! Another winner in the Kate Daniels series.

We are thrown back into Atlanta and a new threat that will expose Kate even more to those she never wanted to find her.

Emotional turmoil & revelations happen in Magic Bleeds. We have relationship issues, hard chooses that will change everyones futures, and a big mystery to solve. If you don’t know by now I am a FAN of the Andrews team and LOVE this series. It has everything an Urban Fantasy needs, action, adventure, a kick-ass heroine, fantastic world building, amazing secondary characters, and so much more.

HAWT Dame! Yep, Kate and Curran’s relationship explodes in this novel in so many ways. Andrea and Raphael end up imploding (big rift) between them and that relationship was looking so good too. Someone from Kate’s bloodline makes a very big and dramatic entrance into her life and we learn so much from this mysterious person. Last Kate has some very hard chooses to make and one that will affect her deeply and change her future.

Magic Bleeds  is a book that will take you away with non-stop action, pulling you into a world full of mystery, magic and so much more. Once I picked this book up I could not put it down and then I had to go and start the next book. Must read series!

Audio: The audio is well worth it. Love listening to the Kate Daniels series.

There's still a lot of books to go but I'm saying it for record : as of right now, this book is my new favourite. Sorry hot tub (aka book three). You had a good run. But between the incredible Kate and Curran dynamic and their exposed vulnerabilities, Erra (what a badass bitch -- both of the highest order), the emotional climax of the big confrontation, the sweet ending.. it all just made for a perfect mix. Chefs kiss even.

And yes, I was weeping into a pan of scrambled eggs as I listened. It got me, I was had.

Sometimes you're lucky enough to read certain books right as you need them most and that was an added bonus of this whole experience, too.

As for the bonus content, weirdly, I remembered the NAKED DINNER Curran POV differently and on audio that was just.. wayy too long. Too much of a sidebar. But the start was fun with the Disney references.

Also included was CONCLAVE and AWAKE (aka super pissed off Curran and the best of the bunch included here!).

I dove right into this one after reading the story before it. This series is just so incredible that I can't help but binge read it to catch up even the short stories between and the alternate scenes in the Gordon Andrews' Curran POV volume.

This book was a pivotal one in the series. Things have been building themselves to a boiling point when it comes to Kate's relationship with The Order where she works, with her relationship with Curran and with his Pack and with her secrets unraveling on her. Each book also provides a worthy opponent for her to face bringing things down to an exciting end. I wish I could give this one a spectacular rating that exceeds what is offered.

I love that while Kate is tough, street savvy, snarky and witty. She is also vulnerable. She is also stubborn in her vulnerability so that she actually makes things harder on herself. She has a strong sense of justice and right and wrong, but has always gone her own way. Now, justice has been challenged when the Order wants her to see anything as not pure human as less than human and disposable and her friends and Curran are challenging her to let people into her life and her heart- to not always go it alone and remain aloof. I loved seeing these dynamics at play even as she faced a truly formidable foe.

Graphic Audio was a great way to re-experience this book so it felt new and exciting like the first time. The full cast is loaded with talent and I particularly enjoy the voice work of Nora and Michael for Kate and Curran.

All in all, this was fantastic and I can't wait to read more of this series and stay immersed in this world.

This series just keeps getting better and better! We *finally* get real forward movement in Curran and Kate’s relationship and we learn even more about Kate’s background. It was also really interesting to find out more about pack dynamics and hierarchy.

The graphic audio was fantastic again and it made the more emotional moments really powerful. I even teared up at the end! I also love that a few of Curran’s POV short stories are also included. Naked Dinner and Awake really painted a much clearer picture of what was happening and the ramifications of these events.

These last 2 books have been my favorites and I’m even more excited to read book 5 now!

I binged the graphic audiobooks of the Kate Daniels Series #1-#5. Just saw that I kind of skipped the x.5 stories.

I enjoyed the series and I'm waiting a while to finish the other books, until the graphic audiobooks are released. I think I need to re-listen and then expand the reviews.

Screaming crying throwing up etc. I'm in a glass box of emotion from how outstanding these Graphic Audio versions of the books are. I'm on the very edge of my seat waiting for the next one to come out and grace me with its presence. Rereading my favorite series has never been so fun.

This is one of my favourite books in the series, and getting it in the full cast dramatisation, and with additional Curran POV bonus bits just makes the experience even better. I got the audio yesterday morning and spent most of yesterday finding ways to listen more.

Update: Dramatized Edition brought this story to life. Plus, the bonus content is the best. Especially when Curran fought the bears and he was late for dinner. Yeah, you know the dinner I'm talking about. *wink* and when he woke up after the fight with Erra. I just loved all 11 hours of this. I upped my rating from 4 to 5 stars.

Love this series so much! While this isn't my favorite book of the series, it still is a great addition. I'm not fond of politics, no matter the kind. This one is filled to the brim with Pack laws and such, and it kind of dragged for me. On the other hand, it served as a purpose to Kate's role as Curran's mate. I love that it's official and they are in love and happy. Something tells me that it's too good and some salt is about to be thrown. No matter, I'll stick to it until the end.

OAN: all that challenging BS at the end made me mad. I didn't like the wolves much to begin with, but they proved to be even bigger pains than I thought. Aunt Erra is crazy. Ted is a prejudice a-hole. Andrea needs to stop being ashamed of what she is. She doesn't deserve Raphael, and I can't wait to see how they will move forward. Lots of action, magic, and death- my type of read. I highly recommend this series!

Magic Bleeds is one of my favorite books in the Kate Daniels series - it's where she and Curran finally come together and I always found Erra a very interesting character. I just had finished Magic Binds on my kindle and those who read the series know what this means with regards to Erra - I won't say more so nobody is spoilered. I love these graphic audiobooks very much and especially those from Ilona Andrews. Curran's voice is exactly how I always imagined his voice to be - velvety smooth and very sexy!! It was pure pleasure listening again to a story I already knew but came alive once more with this audiobook. If you haven't tried a graphic audiobook, I strongly recommend to try. Even better than normal audiobooks and I really hope the trend continues and there are many more to come. Secretly I hope for the Hidden legacy series. The Innkeeper Chronicles are already there. 5 stars for this magic adventure which sweetened my Sunday.

✅ Magic and paranormal creatures
✅ Characters
✅ World-building
✅ Action and battles
✅ Plot
✅ Pace
✅ Very slow burn / Sexual tension
✅ More details about Kate’s past and family
✅(🆗) Not enough of Curran and Kate together
❗️❗️Trigger warnings: some gore, and murders/deaths in battle

❗️❗️I recommend reading Curran’s chapters that take place between books 3 and 4 (more specifically, the Naked Dinner one) before reading this book, as it sheds light on the motive behind some of Curran’s decisions in this book. These bonus chapters can be found here. 🙂

This series really is addictive.
Everyone told me to keep on reading after I found the first book to be good, but not amazing, and I am glad I listened. It does get better with each book.

As usual, Kate is in the middle of all the action, battles and magic sh*t going on in Atlanta. This time, she needs to find out who is targeting and killing members of all the important groups in the city: The Order, the mercenaries, and the shifters, and trying to start an epidemic while doing so.

There was more romantic drama in this book, but it was not too much. There is a misunderstanding trope, because Curran didn’t show up at his dinner with Kate, but it was not dragged on for too long, and it was not pointlessly made overcomplicated. I do not mind miscommunication, as long as the characters are mature enough to be able to sit down and talk once they realize that there has been a misunderstanding, which was thankfully the case here.

That being said, because of this miscommunication, we didn’t see much of Curran in the first half of the book, and I missed his moments with Kate. Their snark and banter are one of the things I enjoy the most about this series, so while I enjoyed the mild angst, I couldn’t wait for them to be forced to see and talk to each other again.

I would have also loved to see more of Andrea in this book. She was a big part of the third book, and she even got her own novella in between the third book and this one, but she was not as present in this one. I feel that she still has a part to play in this series, so we will see her again, but I would have loved for her and Kate to be able to spend more time together. Especially since we got glimpses of their friendship, and they are perfect for each other.

I enjoyed the ending and how the tables were flipped and Kate got to care for Curran for once. I will not say more, so I don’t spoil anything, but it was satisfying and also kind of cute. It also forced Kate to finally admit her feelings for Curran and stop trying to brush it off. The extra chapter from Curran’s point of view that shows what happens right after the end of this book is so satisfying! I highly recommend reading it once you are done with this book!

⭐4 - liked it
Narrated by Nora Sofyan as Kate Daniels and Michael Glenn as Curran. With Stephanie Németh-Parker as Erra, Emlyn McFarland as Andrea,

I liked the interactions between Kate and Curran a lot more in this book. Still the romance could've use some more moments between them that shows the quieter moments in a relationship. Where you can really see just why they like each other instead.

I do really like learning more about Kate's background and how they are dealing with it.

Decided to try the GA after buying the whole InnKeepers series from GA. They did a good job there but this was even better. At the end of the book they add Curran POVs from the book, the bear conflict that made him late to dinner, the restaurant scene, Curran waking and confronting the alphas, and Mahon and Curran’s fight. That was nice to get at the end of the book. If they left anything out, I missed it. I listened side by side with the first InnKeeper book and they left very little out, a sentence here and there and talk descriptors like he said, she yelled, etc… those are all acted. So I was very happy with Nora Sofyan who is so good that she almost rivals Renee Raudman. I would still choose the Raudman version but this has something. I have disliked other GA versions, example World of the Lupi., but I really enjoyed this one. For a review of the story go to my GR review of the book.

I listened to this audiobook, the via graphic audio. This one has to be the best one out of the series so far. I truly enjoy the characters and their development from the previous installments. If you do listen to this via audio, it is a whopping 12 hour-long book.

I am generally curious: What is going to happen in the upcoming chapters? We are definitely getting closer to the main event. Of course, there is romance in the book as well as a lot of action. It is again the characters that really propel this series further and further into its own lore. While making jokes and pointing back to past events. You feel as though you have been a part of this entire timeline. Something that many books struggle to do. This series has been phenomenal achieving that goal.

If you want something that's got a good universe, a good list of characters with a little bit of romance and action on top of that. With a different twist on a universe with magic and technology. This is definitely a series you need to read or listen to.

Do not miss on this book.

I Give this Book a 4.5/5 Star Rating, Listing as High 4.

*Audiobook Review at Bottom

Cliffhanger(?): In its own way, yes.

Relationship Type: MF
Heat: 3-3.5/5
Romance: 3.5/5
Pacing: Mid, but it was brisk in some areas that I wished had more detail/depth.
Drama: 4-4.5/5
Suspense: 4.5/5

*Audiobook Review

Overall: 4.5/5, Listing as 4.
Story: 4.5/5
Performance: 5/5
Narrators: Graphic Audio Cast

This was a fantastic read, and finally our favorite pair becomes a couple, but one thing that stuck out more in this one that the previous is that it felt more rush in a lot of areas and that was a little disappointing, the depth in fight scenes weren’t as prevalent as they were previously, and important scenes were glossed over. I’m hoping the next book isn’t rushed.

A captivating adventure that will keep your attention to the very end.

The narrator did an admirable job of breathing life into the various characters. The story is intense and compelling. I love the dynamics between Kate and Curran. They seem to be happiest when they're fighting. Another major player is introduced in this book bringing more depth to Kate's background.

I can't get enough of this series. It's addictive.

This world and this story just keep getting better and more intense! There are so many things that happen in this book! Erra is such a phenomenal character and really a great look into a truly ancient being as well as into Kate's family.

I love the development of Kate and Curran's relationship. The miscommunication is done so well! They just have such a genuine and heartfelt connection. It is beautifully crafted.

Into book 4 of this series and I am still a huge fan. So much happening as Kate faces her most powerful and seemingly unbeatable foe. Adding to this is her relationship with Curren - a bit rocky with misunderstandings yet a desire to stay with it or not. How does she tell Curren about her ancestry? How does she not? And how will she take care of the City Eater? Stay tuned, you will not be disappointed. GraphicAudio highlights all the best of the story.

yeah I'm hooked. deal with it
This entry has some of the funniest miscommunication yet but that's not the important bit

Plagues seem to be sprouting up as if they had a mind of their own. Our lead's history leaks further into our view along with a fantastical new "sidekick"

A massive battle comes at the head of Kate being pulled in multiple directions
ripples of this will be felt for all entries after it.

Soooo good! I’m loving these Graphic Audio productions of the Kate Daniels series by Illona Andrews. The animal growls, sound effects and CURRAN.. OMG his voice brought to life is EPIC. The Kate Daniels series is already AMAZING and action packed but listening to it being brought to life with a full cast and sound effects is epic. I can’t wait to listen to the next one.
