Rate this book
It is crystal clear that in the Middle Eastern countries and societies, miscellaneous aspects of citizen's life is being affected by the undeniable aspects of tradition, customary believes backed by religion, and reactionary ideas of patriarchy and the dominance of male gender over female's one. Women's struggle for the civil rights in Iran has been through critical times and some ups and downs. In this story collection the writer has tried to shed light upon these bitter injustice against women and their role in society by the various cultural and ethnic roots throughout Iran, subjects such as false allegation and frowned upon acts against a lonely woman in "Zibas's neighbors", the discrimination between man and women to which women's rights in household and society are being neglected in " Mehri's awakening" , the critical situation of teenage girls living in poor classes of society and their being abused, harassed or beaten violently by their families and male ones in " Ayleen's wounds", the troubles of having a boyfriends under heavy environment of patriarchic honor guarding in " Rahele's one way ticket", the matter of domestic violence against women in " Mahi's dreams " ,the crucial issue of child marriage in " Aylar's embarrassment" and last but not least, inheritance inequities between men and women in " Tika's inheritance" are some examples that the writer as a documentary filmmaker has seen and heard from women in years of his field surveys across heterogeneous cultures across Iran.
In conclusion these stories are only a small fraction of which women have been through and maybe they are struggling with, even at this very moment you read this note in Iran, so it is beneficial that if these sorrows and calamities that women are going through not only in the middle east but also all over the world, be expressed in order to raise awareness on the case of women rights and aiming to form a society of equal rights and opportunities for women along men.

This is an in your face reality work detailing different aspect of everyday life for women in modern day Iran; it clearly case by case illustrates the differences in prioritization the culture places on men vs women. I am saddened by this. I do not know how this can be changed as a westerner. I am not finished reading this amazing story, but I am praying that at some point in my lifetime a sequel will be written contrasting that time with this. There has to be change. well written. Kudos.
