Still waters run deep, but the churning waves of ancient secrets and perpetual lies will cause a storm of unparalleled proportions when one teen discovers a merman has washed ashore and learns that even her father cannot be trusted with the truth to the questions she raises.

DEEP WATERS by Alicia Rades is young adult fantasy that is filled with adventure, tension and characters that define the meaning of friendship and trust! Bree knows she is part of a community of mer-hybrids, that her roots lay in the sea, but she wasn’t prepared to find that the merpeople she came from were not extinct, but that the city council has long held the truth from their people.

Forced to leave the only home she has ever known, robbed of the magic she possesses, Bree is about to show everyone in Sea Haven City that she is a force to reckoned with and she will not stop until she has uncovered every barnacle under every stone. They say the truth will set you free, but does that apply to Sea Haven City?

Lots of action, with the fierce determination and raw daring of a teen on a mission, Bree is most likely the girl who should have been voted Most Likely to Succeed! A fun read that holds a junior “Mission Impossible” vibe!

I received a complimentary copy of FIRE AND FANTASY from C.K. Dawn. DEEP WATERS is part of that anthology.

This book was so much fun to read and such a refreshing new style of writing by this author.

The characters were awesome and the story-line was phenomenal. Rades, has once again, won me over with her way with words and the characters in this story. I loved how the author kept me guessing from beginning to end and kept me asking questions until the time was right to give me my answers.

This story allowed my imagination to run wild within the magic that flowed within the pages of this book. This is by far my favorite story and I highly recommend it.

This is the second book by Alicia Rades that I read. The first one was Fire in Frost. I was supposed to also write a review on it but unfortunately, I had the incorrect picture. I had to take another photo. So, the review will have to wait a little longer.

I was right on my impression that this book is about mermaids. Yes, it is. This is about the town of Sea Haven where its inhabitants are not allowed to leave the boundaries. The residents of Sea Haven are descendants of powerful mermaids and to keep their powers and secrets from the outside world, they are to remain in the town for their protection. Until, Bree Waters saw something she was not supposed to see and was banished to a college in Michigan.

The story centers around Bree and her quest to unravel the secrets of her hometown. Why was she sent outside of Sea Haven when no one is allowed to leave it? Why are her powers taken? She had a lot of questions and it seems that even her dad is not answering them. She resolved that she will find a way to get back her powers and then leave Sea Haven as it no longer is home for her. The person she trusted most, her Dad, betrayed her. She would be better off somewhere else.

It was very gutsy of Bree to seek the help of Noah. I think desperation was making her brave. What have she got to lose? Oh, she lost it all already, so what the hell, right? Off she went and fortunately, Noah agreed to help her cause. They also recruited the help of Bree's best friend Liana. They succeeded to get their powers back only to find that they can't leave the town anymore with it. Ah, what a bummer! What to do now?

It seemed like Bree gets into another problem right after she solved one. Will it ever end? More questions keep popping up. In the end, it was all revealed why. It seemed like what she had to go through, she didn't need to at all. If only everything was explained to her. The best about everything is that she doesn't need to leave anymore and she found a new friend in Noah.

I give this book 3/5 bottle necklaces. I think the story was a bit short. I wanted it to be longer. Good thing the ending was neat and all the questions were answered. Nothing was left hanging.

I'd never though I'd lose my magic. I always thought of it as a constant, as something I'd always have, like my heartbeat or my thoughts.

This book had a really interesting premise. A girl finds a merman on the beach and is told to pretend it never happened by the council and is shipped off across the country, after they steal her magic.
For the most part it delivered, the intrigue was kept high throughout the story and it was exciting as they sneak back into Sea Haven to steal back the magic. I was really interested to see what was going to happen.
However the ending felt a bit rushed. They spend so long in the car drive back to Sea Haven and then all the action happens very quickly.

These characters could not make a plan to save their lives. That has to be my only real complaint about this story is that so much of it was spent saying 'I need a plan' but then not coming up with one and ending up improvising on the spot.
I do really like the world that Rades has created here. Sea Haven is an intriguing place with many secrets. I like the way that the residents are the descendants of mermaids and still have some magical powers. I would be interested in learning more about this place with more stories set here.

I really enjoyed reading Deep Waters. I was quickly drawn into the story and wanted to know more about Bree and the small town of Sea Haven. There were so many directions the story could of went and I found myself constantly trying to guess and figure out what was going to happen next. I liked Bree's courage and determination. Even though she was scared and it seemed impossible she made her way back to Sea Haven to get her magic. The ending of Bree's story was a pleasant surprise. I look forward to reading more of Alicia Rades work.

Ohh boy, where Bree felt stressed out or panicked in certain condition such as "can't wait" or "worrying", I also felt the anxiety she felt, I guess Alicia nailed it how to channel character's anxiety to the reader.
One thing that I don't really like is the last part of book, the story kinda dull and take a drastic conclusion. I wish the story kinda developed into some mermaid world exploring or breaking the magic's rule or something. It's sad we don't get to see the expand of Sea Haven's world

It was amazing, It was full of Mermaids, Magic and Fantasy. I don't usually like this type of book but it pulled me in from page 1 and loved every moment of it. It even has a bit of Romance too. Alicia has another book deemed to be a bestseller in her hands and you'll want to pick it up to read right away!

Who doesn’t want to be a mermaid?

A childhood wish of secretly being a mermaid is carefully crafted in this tale. How well myth is mixed with reality to give a believable ‘maybe’ - perhaps good swimmers are descended from Merpeople...

Loved

As usual Alicia pulls off another amazing book. Bree knew she was a descendant of the merfolk, but she never expected things to take a turn for the worse when she stumbles upon a secret

Another one I didn't like. I don't know what it is lately but I am finding more and more books I don't enjoy reading. This one was boring to me and I didn't enjoy anything about it. Good Luck.

Deep Waters by Alicia Rades was a great fantasy novel that kept me reading.

When Bree Waters finds a merman on the shore of the beach by her secluded town, she is shocked. Even though she is an ancestor of mermen and mermaids, she believed that the didn't exist anymore. Bree gets shipped away for knowing about the mermen. What will happen to her and the magic they took away from her.

I really enjoyed this book. It was so realistic (minus the merman) and I fully believed that I was Bree. It made me keep reading, and I finished reading it in a couple days.

The setting was captivating. It was fully described and so well formed. I felt like I belonged in the setting of the book.

The plot really was what kept me reading. The story was a kind of suspense, and I really wanted to know what happened to Bree and her friends. It flowed, and there never was a really slow moment.

I liked the character of Bree. She was a curious and stubborn girl fresh out of high school. She is close to her family, but still able to be independent. She seemed like a character I would like to know in real life.

The romance in this story was full and cute. I didn't really like the fact that there was a love triangle, but I did like that it all worked out in the end with Bree making the sensible decision.

The biggest complaint I have about this book is that the dialogue can be kind of monotone. I felt like the characters were sometimes reading scripts, because the things they said were kind of different than the way normal teenagers talk.

Overall, this was a fast paced and funny fantasy novel.

I loved how original this story was and Bree's dramatic humor such as, "It sucked that there weren't individual bathrooms in each dorm. It meant I couldn't lock myself in there forever until I died and began to rot." When I read that, I couldn't help but chuckle a little. The only thing that disappointed me a little was the reason why Tristan was there. I would have thought the reason for his coming would be a little more dark. But the whole story was very good and something that I'll reread sometime in the future.

This is not my normal read, but I love Alicia's writing style so I had to read this. She did not disappoint! This is a great read for any age, I'd suggest 13 and up. There is a bit of romance in there but nothing really all at once. The main character is just out of high school so it's written in a teenagers perspective. There was just enough suspense to keep you guessing.
