Broken Dolls: Deliverance

Rate this book
You’ve gone through hell… now prepare for deliverance.

Fleeing a childhood of darkness and abuse, Dane thought he’d finally taken ownership of his life. He sold his soul for the price of an escape; mutilating his childlike body and performing abominable sex acts for sick perverts on the dark web.

Years later, a specter from the past re-enters his life, making him want to abandon that which has put a roof over his head.

This quest for freedom on his own terms comes with dire consequences for both him and someone he treasures. They land themselves in the crosshairs of a sadistic man known only as The Puppetmaster.

Abducted and held within this abomination’s basement, Dane’s physical, mental, and emotional resolve is put to the test. Will he—and the person who matters most in the world to him—escape? Or, will their lives end in this basement of snuff and terror?

DNF are 40%. I really did try here. I’ve had one good experience with Mique Watson, but this book’s predecessor was not my favorite read. I wanted to see if the sequel brought any additional light to the first story, but I couldn’t find my groove at all. It followed a couple different characters across different time frames, giving no real background or refresher to the original book. One big mistake that I see authors make is assuming that readers will jump into a series one book after another, with no time between. Unfortunately, and say this as someone who reads ferociously, I have almost 0 memory of a book I read almost a year ago. There are hundreds of books that I’ve read in the time frame, so, aside from some tidbits, I have no recollection of the original story. Some type of introduction to bring a reader up to speed is critical, especially before introducing new plot points, which this did not have. And the story is more of the same from what I can remember, in that it mostly focuses on extreme sexual deviancy and sadomasochistic behavior. Very mean and angry content, which felt that it was the priority, and everything else was just sort of written around it. I am a big fan of extreme horror and really intense sexual content, but I just do not like the way this was written. Some readers may feel differently, but this series is definitely not for me. There were also some formatting issues on the Kindle version.

Watson's Best Work Yet!

This was my third read by Watson, and BROKEN DOLLS: DELIVERANCE is my favorite. It's extreme, to be sure, but there's more to this book than just violence and gore. There's also a lot of great prose and craftsmanship. I'm looking forward to reading more from Watson. Highly recommended!

Raise your hand if you’ve been personally victimized by Mique Watson, AGAIN. 🙋🏽‍♂️ The past books that I’ve crowned “most disgusting,” “most disturbed,” etc. have now been dethroned. Make way for Broken Dolls: Deliverance, the reigning champ of depravity & fuckedupedness that I’ve ever read. The only book thus far that has made me physically gag & tear up from more than one scene, and I’ve read almost all of the “big barfers.” Then this trauma-monger has the audacity to create one of the most gut-wrenching, soul-crushing stories I’ve ever read as well? I don’t know whether to applaud the man or get in touch with my lawyer for emotional distress. 😩

Now the inevitable “can’t share too much without spoiling” part, this time in rapid-fire mode: budding childhood friendship, horribly abusive parents, an exhilarating will they/won’t they moment, HEARTBREAK, the dark web, barbed wire, a pregnant lady?!, peppercorns?, HOPE?!, exploding pustules, no not the dog, kidnapping?!, blue meat?!, a belt sander, BLEACH, a final showdown, and then…THAT ENDING.

Phew, it’s a lot, but it’s done pretty damn smoothly. I think we can safely say that Mique has graduated from up-and-coming author to established horror virtuoso. While I’ve enjoyed all of his books, you can see he has quickly honed his craft and has found his stride in extreme horror. Who knew so much character development & depth could be conveyed seamlessly among SO much blood, barnacled genitals, & vomit? Kudos Mique, don’t ever change but maybe talk to a licensed mental health worker asap.

p.s. Good luck when the booktoktuber personas non gratas get a hold of it.

The definition of extreme horror

This book has all the elements one may be looking for when it comes to extreme horror. It is easy to feel repulsed by this gem, yet it's hard to resist; it pushes your eyes off the page and then pulls them back. I'd definitely say it hit every mark that could make any human question their existence. This is one of the best extreme horror books I've read to date. Even though this is the first book ive read of Mr. Watson, I know without a doubt it won't be the last! Bravo!!

1️⃣🌟, I skimmed the entire book because the literal first page is trash already, and I don't want to support an author that is really really really suspicious

“I started considering my guts were severely mangled about the seventy-third time a monster cock plowed my ass.”

I swear the author is getting off to this. No one writes this shit and actually plans to publish it. THIS IS THE DAMN FIRST SENTENCE

And now since the main character is now a guy,. It early early feels more and more 'self insert' which even if you just read the first sentence in this book really makes you THINK. THINK WHAT IS AUTHOR IS TRYING TO WRITE ABOUT

*Hmmmmmmmm, I should write this as the first sentence of my book, or even just the entirety of this book*

CONGRATS I FOUND MY NEW WORST AUTHOR WAY LOWER THAN COLEEN HOOVER OR ANA HUANG. AT LEAST THOSE BOOKS ARE BORING AND HAS ABSOLUTELY NO PLOT AND CHARACTER DEPTH BUT THIS AUTHOR IS SUSPICIOUS AS HECK.

——————————————————————

I just researched and found out that this author is gay and which is more surprising and more pointing out to the fact that this book is actually just a self insert because the main character in here is also gay and very much according to the videos that i found himself in, pretty much acts like this person in the book which leads me more and more to this being a self insert which is a tad bit more suspicious which just makes my second paragraph to this review even more apparent.

“Don’t you just love being my little underage slut?”

Don't you just love thinking about what the author is thinking about when he wrote this?

It’s just not fair that Mique constantly makes me look like a fraud the way I genuinely am obsessed with all his books but I swear the man is a genius 😩
Please excuse me as I read this book in the hospital on pain meds (I need to do a re-read) but HOLY SHITTTTT!!!!! He killed it with his first full length novel!!
Dane is trying to escape from his abusive upbringing by mutiliating his body and selling himself to sick perverts on the dark web. He ends up in danger as he becomes entangled with a man known as The Puppetmaster. This book is EXTREME HORROR with snuff film, revenge, gory games, the dark web, and more. Although this is extreme horror there is also part of this novel that is extremely touching and heartfelt. It feels personal, the characters have depth and backstory, and you care. It’s like Nicholas Sparks writing extreme horror. I cried (was it the pain meds or his stunning writing idk). His writing and the DESCRIPTIONS of gore as well as the backstories were just so well done. I’m glad we got some back story to Broken Dolls particularly the villain. I absolutely adored this book and if you’re an extreme horror fan so will you.

YUCK YUCK YUCK
GROSS GROSS GROSS
And I loved every single minute of it. I need a shower to feel clean again.
This wasn't what I was expecting of this sequel. I guess I expected it to be more like the first one, but this one far exceeded all my expectations.
A must read for any extreme lover.

A Horror Bookworm Recommendation
Broken Dolls: Deliverance by Mique Watson
https://horrorbookwormreviews.com/

Having to cope with an abusive family, Dane, a young boy finds solace in the form of a new childhood friendship. The companionship is abruptly ended as his mate is unexpectedly forced to move away. Subjected to further intense abuse, Dane is eventually lead down a road of toxic behavior. Years later, when a coincidental happenstance occurs, the two friends reunite and rehash fond memories. What happens next is every cherished friendship’s worst nightmare come true.

Broken Dolls: Deliverance by Mique Watson is a story of innocence introduced to all the depravity, sickness and vile humanity that this world provides. I wanted to kick off this review by mentioning this book is in the same vein as Survivor by J.F. Gonzalez, Suffer The Flesh by Monica O’Rourke, Hub by Matt Shaw and Jinx by Bridgett Nelson. It’s just as worthy and should be “extreme” required reading. That being said…insert the bright yellow yield sign that reads “Proceed With Caution” here.

Mique Watson’s story cleverly bounces back and forth from past to present generating an underlying significance of abandonment. As this foundation is being established, Watson blindsides you with unforeseen gore-stained depravity and some of the most vile characters you will ever read. Oh, watch out for that first sentence of the book - it’s a doozy.

The fundamentals of fat and flesh are tested with hooked chains, rusty saws, sewing nails and plastic bags. Basically a fully equipped table of tortured devices are supplied with each and every chapter. This author does not skimp on details and does not sugar coat anything. From the dark web to live feeds of pain and brutality, these elements are essential to understanding a deeper meaning that this novel has to offer.

Brace yourself readers, Broken Dolls: Deliverance may cause intense, excessive and persistent anxiety. A fast heart rate, rapid breathing, sweating and a feeling of disgust in the pit of your stomach may transpire. Other symptoms may occur the closer you reach the mind-blowing conclusion. This is a five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (yes I added a star) Horror Bookworm Recommendation.

Well executed for what this book wanted to be
Extreme splatter punk, graphic, disturbing, derogatory, distasteful, degrading, deplorable, and every other descriptor of vile you can think of

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO IS NOT A FAN OF EXTREME SPLATTERPUNK HORROR seriously if you are someone who needs trigger warnings, of any type for any reason, do not read this book. If you are looking for something to make your skin crawl and to make you fight the urge to vomit then you will love this book!

There is a huge improvement from the previous book I read "Them", the dialogue is much better, and I genuinely care about the two main characters in this story. Their relationship and what they went through had me praying that they would make it out of this situation alive.
I can not praise their character dynamic enough!
There is real heart to these characters.

You can also feel the emotions of abandonment, desperation, and the sliver of hope that one day the pieces will fall into place for a better tomorrow- only for life to crush that shred of hope you held so dearly.

Sadly for me, this book did not try to impact any deeper message or theme, which is a shame because I think it could have had something to say about the dark web and those who make and view this content...
For example, it would have been impactful to include a character who viewed these videos/images and watch that character come to terms with the fact real people are being harmed- that there is no such things as a victimless crime. That being a bystander, or having these images, still makes you a perpetrator in this case.
I did appreciate how the main character begun making these videos out of desperation and necessity after being the victim of horrendous things and just needing to get away.

Of course the torture is over the top, sexual assault is ramped, bodily fluids of all types are described and eaten.... it's so over the top it feels separate from reality (thought I would not even pretend to be surprised to learn that these type of snuff film exist- I don't want to know don't tell me)

This over the top violence made the villains feel cartoonishly evil, because who could possibly get pleasure from doing these things to people (I know people do but that's not the point I'm trying to make)... seriously this guy just LOVED what he did for a living, I think he'd do it even if he wasn't getting paid. I feel it be more terrifying if the villain was someone who felt this was an easy way to make money, if they were a narcissistic psychopath that didn't care who they hurt- rather then just someone who enjoyed hurting people...and were an actual demon monster in human skin.
You could also parallel that with the fact many psychopaths go into business as they have no problem hurting others to get ahead

Overall splatter punk is still not for me, I like extreme horror but I prefer when it is trying to say something about society. That being said I greatly appreciate the raw emotions that were expressed in this novel. Mique has a talent for describing these feelings and I am looking forward to seeing what he creates from here.

With each new book, I find myself astounded by the author's ability to push the boundaries of disgust and depravity, consistently surpassing my expectations. It's a testament to the sheer horror within that it took me three days to navigate this novel, as I felt physically ill every time I returned to its pages. I've delved into the realm of extreme horror extensively, but Mique's work stands out as the most grotesque.

This distinction is particularly evident here, as he takes more time to immerse us in the protagonist's life, tracing his journey from childhood to the present. This deep connection with the character amplifies the subsequent horrors, while I also appreciated the exploration of profound friendship tinged with unrequited yearning and love. The narrative tugs at your heartstrings while simultaneously eroding every vestige of human decency, venturing into the darkest corners of humanity. A nod to characters from the previous book and their fates was a thoughtful addition.

I also noticed a marked improvement in the writing; I found myself highlighting more quotes than usual. However, the descriptions of gore and mutilation were dialed up significantly, likely leaving me with nightmares for some time.

The dual timeline narrative was a gripping choice, even though it offered no reprieve from the heartbreak. It reminded me of one of my favorite extreme horror books, 'The Summer I Died,' where we witness the similar harrowing fates of two close friends while despising a reprehensible villain every step of the way.

The book also offered insightful commentary on life and the expectations society places upon us, challenging preconceived notions that may leave you questioning what everyone promised you'd feel.

I think this will most likely be my last foray into extreme horror until the next year, as I'm not sure I can handle much more after this one.

In conclusion, approach this book with caution, as it touches on a multitude of trigger warnings. However, if you seek an extreme horror experience unlike any other, you will undoubtedly find it here.

Thank you to Mique for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review!

This is so much more than just a horror novel. Yes, the horror scenes are graphic, vile and disgusting but besides that, this book shows a person who is struggling. Dane and Joe became friends when they were kids. They were best friends in fact. One day Joe disappears and it sets Dane on a path of self-destruction. It didn't help that his home life was awful. His mother was useless and evil and his dad was a monster.

Dane runs away during his high school years and the things he goes through. What he puts himself through. What he does to himself. I wanted to hug him and keep him safe. My soul hurt for this broken shell of a person. A person who just wanted to be loved. A person who was chasing his best friend for years.

Dane and Joe reunite eventually and it sets of a chain of events that don't end well for either of them.

I like how the author showed us chapters written in the past and chapters written in the current day. It helped build up the backstory, so we could get to know the characters.

Oh and if you're a horror movie lover, this book reminded me of A Serbian Film. 100% do not recommend watching that movie but if you're curious like I was, good luck! Anyway, this book definitely had A Serbian Film vibes.

I'd like to also think that there's not people like this who exist in the real world but I know they do.

This book is hands down one of the best I've ever read.

INCREDIBLE!

NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!!

DEFINITELY #1 BEST READ OF 2023 FOR ME.

MIQUE IS A FREAKING GENIUS IS ALL THAT I HAVE TO SAY. I'M SPEECHLESS. IT LEGIT CAUSED ME SO MUCH DISCOMFORT AT THE PHYSICAL LEVEL TOO.

The amount of breaks I had to take was incredible. He definitely put his all into this one, and then some. This is in fact my first Watson read and review. I was kindly selected to read the ARC. I didn't know what I'd be in for and I went in blind and I honestly regret it to a certain degree. It exposed so many dark things... Not trying to spoil anything BUT this one isn't for a newbie to the extreme horror genre by any means. Other than speaking about the darker topics, I must say that it was entertaining, beautifully written (I felt like it had LaRocca vibes to it), and I can say that Mique also did a great job showing some small glimpses of humanity and happiness. It was a wild rollercoaster ride of emotions and intrigue, and a new perspective on the "snuff" industry and the dark web. A mind blowing experience.

An awesome human being and a super talented writer. My gosh. I'm floored. I didn't expect to like this so much, and to make it my #1 book of the year should speak volumes to you all.

I will be buying the rest of his books ASAP!

So, you’re probably thinking, “how could he possibly outdo the first book?” Right? Because that’s what I was thinking… then I devoured this book in one sitting! Not only did he outdo the first book, this follow up makes the first book seem as innocuous as sitting around with your girlfriends, making daisy chains and braiding each other’s hair. GOD DAMN!!! This story is dark, twisted, and depraved in every way possible! I would love to spend the day inside this guy’s head!!! To say I loved this book is an understatement…

This was my first book by Mique and definitely won’t be my last.

Broken Dolls: Deliverance was a visceral, raw and genuinely sad story. Unlike a lot of extreme horror, this has elements of genuine sweetness and heart ache.

Don’t get me wrong, the violence and gore was extreme and I wouldn’t recommend this to someone who hasn’t already dipped their toe into the genre of extreme horror.

Parts of it were really beautifully written and others made my stomach churn.

Definitely a must read for any extreme horror fan.

The first word that comes to my mind when thinking about this book is dirty. Not in a "You have a dirty mind!" way, but in a "Dirty motorway service station bathroom that also serves as a gloryhole" way. This is a compliment, in case you couldn't tell.
The main character is well developed, which makes it easy to empathize with him despite his flaws. This makes the horror of this book much more impactful

Brutal. Abhorrent. Disgusting. Stomach-churning. Vile. There's a lot of words to describe this work of extreme horror proportions. But it's also a story of a young man surviving atrocities that nobody should have to go through, and navigating the relationships of youth and beyond. If you have the stomach, this is a recommended read.

Danes childhood isn't the greatest. His mom is an alcoholic and his dad is just awful. He longs to find a friend to hang out with. His prayers are answered one day when Joe moves across the street. At first they're shy but as the summer goes on, they become the best of friends. Dane is falling in love with his best friend and one day he decides to kiss Joe. Things seemed ok until Joe's family ends up moving away without explanation. Dane is left alone and that's when his dad decides to do some really awful things to him for years.

Years go by and Dane becomes an escort. The only way he knows how to survive and make money is by pleasing men. One day he meets Novak and gets into a cam boy job. He does what men tell him to do on camera. He finds himself talking to someone named Puppetmaster or sir to him. A vile man who has an extreme taste for awful things. Joe comes back into Danes life at the worst time.

Wow, I'm surprised how much I actually love this read. It was very heavy with some extremely disturbing scenes but it was insanely good. The antagonist in here, the puppetmaster, I really loved how sick and twisted he was. I love my monsters to be evil and this might be the evilest one I've read. I enjoyed this one much more than the 1st book for many reason. How this tied in with the first book was excellent and the ending left me wanting more. Be cautious if you read this but damn, this was good.

Broken Dolls: Deliverance contains just about every content warning under the sun with the most descriptive details of some of the vilest and grossest shit I’ve read — it’s also pretty much on par with Mique’s previous extreme horror books when it comes to how vomit inducing it can be.

However, unlike his two other novellas, this one really shows his depth as an author and how far he’s come as a writer. While I liked both Them and Broken Dolls, this one is hands down his best work so far. Not only has the writing improved, not that it was bad before but writer’s evolve and it’s clear Mique’s worked hard to hone his art, but there’s also a hidden depth to this book that wasn’t as clear with the other two. This also feels like a much more personal story and it clearly shows when we’re following Dane through his childhood and abuse, surviving whatever it takes, and also dealing with feelings that he has for his childhood friend. There’s so many emotions packed into these pages and characters and it makes the book so much more heartbreaking when you witness what Dane is going through.

This is perfect for any extreme horror fan that’s looking for pure filth, with detailed descriptions of the most heinous acts you can imagine, but also likes it when there’s a background story to really feel a connection with the characters as they’re tortured.
It’s also definitely not a book for people who’s not into splatterpunk or extreme horror but if you’re curious definitely look up content warnings first!

So let me start off by saying, I’m a huge Mique Watson fan and I’ve read all of his books. Now with that being said his content is not for the weak or faint of heart. You have to be a true extreme horror or Splatterpunk fan to finish his books. But his writing is absolutely incredible, you’re able to picture every moment and emotion he writes.

This story is about Dane’s childhood friendship with Joe, who was an escape from Dane’s own broken home and always gave him a sense of love, safety and a glimpse of what a happy family life looked liked. His happiness is short lived when he finds out his best friend has to move away and they lose all contact.

Dane’s childhood goes from a broken home to nights of abuse and unimaginable suffering which leads him down a path of self harm and destruction and makes all the wrong life choices.

As an adult he is reunited with his best friend Joe and Dane is starting to feel like his old happy self again, until Joe goes MIA and well, the shit hits the fan.

From here the book is filled with suffering, snuff, torture and some insane acts of gory debauchery and is not for the weak.

The chapters bounce from past to present and I don’t want to spoil the rest of the book and if this stuff is up you alley, I highly suggest you read it after you finish The first Broken Dolls.

Mique- Thank you for writing another bloody disgusting story that kept me on my toes and thank you for testing my limits when it comes to extreme horror, please never stop writing your amazing books.

I lack words to express how good this book by Mique Watson was. It’s not for the faint of heart, extremely disgusting that pushes your boundaries but also seeks to see if you have any triggers. My heart broke so many times for Dane, he truly didn’t have any chance in life except for Joe’s friendship. This book is a work of fiction but I also know that the horrific scenes written in this story are realitu for many kids (in real life).

If you want to push your limits and read some of the worst extreme scenes, this book is for you.

A home I never knew

Wow. This is absolutely the meaning of extreme horror and is not a starter book in this genre. Broken dolls and broken dolls deliverance are hands down the most messed up, depraved extreme horror I’ve ever read to date. Dane and Joe’s story shattered my heart. Mique did such a stellar job at this. So disgusting but it also made me want to cry.

Just as extreme, maybe even more so than, Broken Dolls, but the story in this one was so much more. Personally, I could have read this book minus the gruesome parts and just as the story of Dane and Joe, I found this portion extremely compelling and had me totally invested. But the all the torture and gore was pretty fun too!

I need to start this with saying I am no stranger to extreme horror / splatterpunk.
I know what the genre is and what to expect going into one of the books. It is not what is written inside the pages that made me rate this so low but what was lacking in them.

When I read Broken Dolls I also was critical of the authors "story line" I truly believe Mique Watson knows how to make a reader feel disgusting while reading her books, but I think she also focuses so much on the grotesque and abominable to shock the readers that she forgets we also enjoy a story to go with the shocks. While I was put off more so of the ending of Broken Dolls this book is its own and had different reasonings for me giving it a low rating.

Broken Dolls: Deliverance has all the makings of a great Splatterpunk horror story. There is gore, sex, pain, delinquency, and blood... so. much. blood. When I first started reading I was honestly a little confused when the car accident all of a sudden turned into a basement. What was the point of the accident? What was the point of the very start of the book in the Dr. Office?

I seriously am asking someone to please clarify this for me because I have now finished and went back to re-read the first few chapters to see if I missed something and there was no lead into why we even had those first two parts.

But move on from that. I think the Author had an idea on how to make this a top tier graphic read and tried to build a backstory around that idea. While I appreciate the attempt, the storyline was confusing.

This will have some spoilers simply due to my confusion being in the mid-latter part of the story.

Overall there was gore. There was disgusts and there was everything grotesque you expect in a extreme horror read... but there was still a lack of storytelling that you want to find in the books too. Maybe the Broken Dolls books just arent for me? Maybe im missing some bigger picture from the stories or maybe im just being honest with my opinion and just did not enjoy these two. Either way I am going to give Them a shot next and see if Mique Watson can change my mind and earn her endorsements my fellow x-horror readers give.

I received an arc copy in exchange for an honest review

5 stars obviously bitches

Thank you Mique for the arc. I ordered it the same I got my arc so now I can have the physical copy too. Not only am I a fan of this dark depravity but something happened while I was reading this one this time around, it hit me emotionally as well. Books that make emotional while reading are an automatic 5 star. One thing you did in this one that I saw others talk about in their reviews is the dual time line, we love a timeline story; I’m here for it. I’m not going to say too much in my review because I don’t want to give anything away. What I will say is read this immediately if you can stomach it. Mique introduced me to this genre in the first place and I enjoy seeing where your writing takes you as you release more and more books into this world. I read your novellas and this one now. It’s wonderful to say that only are you my extreme horror book buddy but you are also now a author I will read anything you put out. This one just like with other extreme horror that I read is not for the faint of heart go in with caution at your own risk. Something this book does is answer the question to one of my biggest fears How far/What are you willing to do for the one you love most on this world? That ending?!? Wow!!!!
To my lover once again who likes to know about all the books I read, this is a another of those cases where I wouldn’t just be randomly flipping through my library. Mique you are an absolutely fantastic writer and it makes remember I why I enjoy reading and writing as well in my free time. I’m excited to see where you go as you climb your way through the extreme horror genre world.

Here are the quotes I liked and why

“I started considering my guts were severely mangled about the seventy-third time a monster cock plowed my ass.”- what a good way to start off a book

“What he does next is predictable—as if he's a marionette being manipulated by a puppet master in the shadows.”- what a good ass line

“The smattering of scars and scabs etched on nearly every inch of me surprised him at first, but in the end, I guess they all like damaged goods just the same.” This one is sad but relatable

“I want to rip out the ball gag and tell Joe I love him. That I’d loved him ever since we were kids. That he is the only person I’ve ever loved in this world. More than myself even.”- this kinda of love is rare to find and once you have it, it’s the most wonderful feeling in the world. How romantic 🥰

“Ribbons of hot pearlescent sludge shoot out of the tip of his now dark-red, crooked prick. It lands on my face ... my mouth, my eyes. I violently thrash, trying to get it off me.
“Did you like tasting your master’s load, you little slut?” - okay but like I have a I read too much extreme horror books for this to phase me but make me laugh instead.

“ I felt my love pulse through the liquid string, filling him with my need.” - this is what I’m talking about so cute

“Butterflies combust beneath my core when I realize what’s about to happen.” This is an example of why I enjoy your writing
