What is a totally average elementary school music teacher doing standing in a tour bus with the King of Music? I have no idea, but for some reason, the stars have aligned and the universe thinks I’m the one who can help him. This is the first-ever book by Sj Sylvis I read and I had no clue what had I set myself up to when I requested that ARC. I was taken by a nice surprise and wasn't a bit disappointed.
SJ Sylvis is such a talented writer and I was completely lured by all the words on those pages... They were flowing freely and effortlessly and I got completely captivated by this beautiful love story. It was a real page-turner for me!
Every line I read made me feel and ache for the characters, their emotions, pain and heartache.
Reid is a famous and talented musician that is also known for his unique songwriting style, the one that comes from the depth of the heart and is wrapped in all sorts of emotions. Only after the latest life drama, his writing hits the brick wall and he is not able to put a single word on paper. It's a complete block that puts huge pressure on him as an artist and his record label contract now on stake. Not only his career but his emotional well being is hugely affected.
Brooklyn loves music and she is an excellent school music teacher. If not her quite introverted personality her dream job would involve sharing her passion with massive audiences when now those song verses are up for her notebook and best friend's Jane judgement. Brooklyn badly needs the money and when one in a lifetime job offer comes along she jumps on the wagon even though the opportunity is completely out of her comfort zone.

So I can be picky about my Rock star romance books. Because it is so important for me I can relate to the characters in the book and that I can put myself into their lives. Often I can find that hard to do with famous people especially rockstars because, to be honest, I don't ever want to be famous like that it sounds awful to me.
I had no trouble at all with connecting with Brooklyn and Reid. They were both such sweet amazing people (When Reid wasn't an asshole) that I just instantly fell in love with them.
Brooklyn was the star in this book for me, she reminded me so much of myself. Total homeboy that don't want any attention and is just loving her quiet life but at the same time also has crazy dreams that she knows will never come true because she doesn't want the attention. She is really one of the sweetest heroines I have ever read and she sacrifices so much for the people she loves.
When we meet Reid at the beginning of the book he is broken. He has had some terrible things happen to him that makes him the biggest asshole and he refuse to get anyone close to him. In comes Brooklyn, she is hired to help Reid write songs because he is stuck and has no more creativity left. But there is a reason he is known as the King of music and Brooklyn learns that there is so much more to Reid than his asshole behavior and she wants to help him.
The king of music and a music teacher what can they ever have in common? Well read the book and find out you will not regret it. But a small warning this is a slow burn that will make you just a little frustrated... But trust me it is worth it.

This book was my first rockstar romance ever and I really, really loved reading it. This contemporary romance which is full of all kind of emotions kept me awake last night. I was hooked from the Prologue because it was a mystery, and I kept reading and reading until the mystery was solved, I simply couldn't put this book down. Reid (the famous musician) and Brooklyn (a "normal" human being) seem so different at the first look, but they are so similar, they express their emotions in the same way. I loved how she quietly and not even on purpose managed to put Reid's walls down, although he tried so hard to remain a kind of a shell, living in solitude of his own thoughts. While closely coming to the end of the book, I didn't want to say goodbye to these characters, I didn't want their story to end. This book definitely deserves this rating of 5 stars and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to read a good romance.

If you know me, you know I love Rockstar romance!! I have no idea how I’ve never seen this book before because I’m a big fan of SJ Sylvis. This story was amazing! It’s not your typical drama, drug, alcohol and sex laced rockstar romance that I always expect from my rockstars. Yes, Reid is a mess but for other reasons. The story is angsty and a slow build. Don’t jump in thinking you’re getting all kinky stuff, because you’re not.
Brooklyn is a music teacher that finds herself on a tour bus with Reid King, Superstar. She’s there to help him out of his writing slump, against his wishes. What unfolds is a story of trust and love. IT’S SO GOOD!

So far I've enjoyed this author's romcoms, but was not expecting to get what we did with Truth. This book is filled with so many raw emotions that really hit me in all the feels. Truth is a slow burn romance, but so good!!
Brooklyn is a music teacher and loves what she does. She writes her own songs, but is too shy to do anything with them. That is until her friend is able to get her a once in a lifetime job. Brooklyn doesn't see herself helping a singer when she doesn't even dare to show anyone her own lyrics. The money is tempting though, because her family really needs it.
I really liked Brooklyn. She's a very caring person and what she did for her family is amazing! Brooklyn is a bit insecure and it shows at times with Reid, but I loved that him being a celebrity didn't matter to her at all. She wasn't taking an attitude from him. Brooklyn is sweet, caring, sarcastic and really just herself. I think she's one of my favorite characters by this author.
Reid is a rock star and loved by many fans! He's definitely one that's used to getting what he wants and won't accept his record label hiring someone to help him write again. Reid is definitely a hard cookie to crack, but as the book goes on, it's clear why. Letting a woman in really hurt him and he's still trying to figure out what's happening.
Reid really hit me in all the feels. You just want to hug him and tell him it will all be okay as you read his story. My heart just wanted to break for him and I loved him at the same time. He's definitely on the book boyfriend list now! Reid is arrogant and sarcastic, but feels so much more than he want to admit.
Seeing these two together was such a good time. I loved watching Reid and Brooklyn interact. The arguing and teasing, but also the sweet moments that really had them getting to know each other. Definitely a slow burn romance, but it fit this story perfectly! Yes, I wanted to smack them a few times along the way as well, haha.
Truth hit me in all the feels, but also had me laughing out loud. The connection between Reid and Brooklyn felt so real and I was sad when this book was over. Add some amazing lyrics in this book and I was sold. I really wish these songs were real, because I need more. Truth is everything I want in a rock star romance and then some. I would definitely love to see the other band members get a story!

I'll admit it, I love rock star books. It’s one of my weaknesses; my kryptonite. So I couldn’t help but pick this book up. I cannot say no to these hot and sexy tattooed guys like Adam Levine. The only thing that would totally make me combust is if he was a British rockstar. Alas, he is not, but that’s okay. Reid King is still one hot male specimen.

Oh my goodness, Truth by S.J. Sylvis gave me all the feels and I am still trying to sort them all out, even hours after reaching the end. This story wholeheartedly managed to captivated me and I quickly found myself devouring every phenomenal word within a few hours. This happens to be the first story I have read from this author and now all I can think about is redeeming that fact because if the writing in those stories is ANYTHING like this one, I know I will absolutely love them!
Reid and Brooklyn's story will have you completely overwhelmed with emotions, in the best possible way of course! Their emotional rollercoaster will leave you crying your eyes out one moment, laughing your ass of in the next, and of course at times wanting to throw your reading device across the room. The chemistry between these two beautiful souls had my heart swooning from the very beginning. Their banter was on point and I found myself falling even more in love with them throughout ever step of their journey. It's definitely not an easy one and that's the TRUTH, but then again, things would get boring without some complications.
There are still butterflies fluttering all throughout my body and I cannot help but recommend this extraordinary tale! If you haven't read S.J. Sylvis yet, don't wait any longer because you need to read this story!

This is the first story i have read by this story and will definitely not be the last because this story was absolutely amazing. I was instantly engaged into the storyline of this story from the very first page. It was packed full of so much emotion that i could not put it down. There was a lot of twists and turns throughout the story that kept me on the edge of my seat.
I loved Brooklyn and the way that she kept putting Reid into his place. I found her to be a strong and feisty character that did whatever she could to help her family. I found she to be incredible sweet with her dresses with pockets on them.
Reid I absolutely loved despite the way that he was to Brooklyn sometimes throughout the story. There was a lot more to him then being a famous Rockstar and it is evident in the story that he is going through a lot at the moment.
There was a lot of mystery throughout the story that really had me guessing throughout the story. I loved the way that the main characters seemed so different from each other but were attracted to each other. I really enjoyed the push and pull of their relationship. This is a definite must read.

OHHHH MY WORD I love Reid King so much.
You are going to be on like page 4 and say WHAT!!! What the what! I put my kindle down, the realized things were only going to get more intense! I couldn’t put this book down.
The heartache and just grief is sooo much your heart will hurt for him. The beautiful tormented rock star. He’s lost his way of putting his feelings into his music.
Brooklyn is a crazy sweet elementary school music teacher who feels for others so tremendously you’ll immediately love her! She gets thrown into the rockers world to try and help.
This is a huge slow burner with secrets and heartaches begging to be healed. You’ll love and hate Reid as he messes up and smack your forehead at Brooklyn for being sooooo stubborn! Gahhhhhhh you 2 gimme that HEA! Just hold your horses because it’s so worth it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 (rounded up to 5 for Goodreads) Oh, Sammi 💙💜 you somehow managed to make me laugh, swoon, break my heart, and put it back together all within these beautifully written pages. Reid’s tortured soul and Brooklyn’s selfless yet sassy nature made for a perfectly delightful slow burn contemporary romance that I raced to finish, yet never wanted to end. Reid & Brooklyn’s individual stories were complicated yet simple, and their dynamic together angsty one minute and awkward yet hilarious the next. I loved the unique take on the rock star romance. This story was anything but cut and dry or predictable. The secondary characters added depth and comic relief that perfectly rounded out this fun and addicting story.

She takes on the job to collaborate with Reid to get him to find his creative flow again.
Reid gives her the cold shoulder and refuses to bend and yet Brooklyn is determined to see this through. She's there for the money and she's not leaving without it.
I fell in love with these two. Reid is determined not to let Brooklyn in and Brooklyn's sense of humor and determination keeps chipping away at his wall.
This story had dark moments but Brooklyn was the ray of sunshine and hope for not only Reid but for the reader as well.

what I liked:
I read this book super quickly. I mean I was suffering from insomnia, but still. It was a one night read for me. If I didn’t have insomnia I still think I would’ve finished it in two sittings. It was quick to read and enjoyable.
When the author teased a slow-burn for this romance, she was not lying! It is indeed a slow burn featuring alternating POVs – which I find particularly helpful especially if one of the characters behaves like a jerk for any period of time.
Reid was complex and likable- you understood what he’s struggling with and why. His pain was palpable.
Brooklyn was cute and funny (although I wouldn’t call this book a romcom). I liked the way she dressed and how she and Reid spoke the same language. She had genuine kindness that made her seem like you could be friends with her.
I did a couple of late night chuckles while I was reading this book (Don’t worry, I didn’t wake up my husband soundly sleeping next to me. Although don’t you sometimes want to wake up the good sleeper in your relationship, just to tell them that you’re not sleeping? No? Just me? Okay.) But again would reiterate that this book is high drama. Contemporary, angsty romance at its best.
I also want to mention how strong the Prologue is in this book- it snags your attention right from the beginning! If you’re a friend of the rockstar romance, you’re gonna really enjoy this book!
what I didn't like-
There was a plotline that contained a bit of mystery- you were waiting for the truth to be uncovered. See what I did there? I know, I’m a comedic genius. Well, I guessed the mystery pretty easily. This isn’t totally abnormal for me- as you know by now I live on a steady diet of BBC Masterpiece Mysteries – but it does take away from the book when you don’t get your “aha!” moment.
This book featured a grand gesture – which is fine! I think I’m not particularly a fan of that plot device but (like this entire review) that is purely subjective- it does add to the negative column for me though.
The last bit that didn’t sit perfectly for me was Brooklyn getting this gig in the first place. She gets this summer job to help this very well known singer/songwriter get back into writing music. And she has zero experience…. which I could kind of (maybe) move past. But I actually felt like she was straight up clueless and wasn’t doing anything to help herself to not be clueless. I would’ve loved for a scene with her googling how to help someone write a song. Or maybe talk about a skype session she just finished with a different artist who struggled with writer’s block (who she easily could’ve been put in contact with by her BFF in the book).
Overall this book was a really quick and enjoyable romance that I think a lot of readers will absolutely love. Especially if you like a rockstar romance- I would definitely snag this one!

what I liked:
I read this book super quickly. I mean I was suffering from insomnia, but still. It was a one night read for me. If I didn’t have insomnia I still think I would’ve finished it in two sittings. It was quick to read and enjoyable.
When the author teased a slow-burn for this romance, she was not lying! It is indeed a slow burn featuring alternating POVs – which I find particularly helpful especially if one of the characters behaves like a jerk for any period of time.
Reid was complex and likable- you understood what he’s struggling with and why. His pain was palpable.
Brooklyn was cute and funny (although I wouldn’t call this book a romcom). I liked the way she dressed and how she and Reid spoke the same language. She had genuine kindness that made her seem like you could be friends with her.
I did a couple of late night chuckles while I was reading this book (Don’t worry, I didn’t wake up my husband soundly sleeping next to me. Although don’t you sometimes want to wake up the good sleeper in your relationship, just to tell them that you’re not sleeping? No? Just me? Okay.) But again would reiterate that this book is high drama. Contemporary, angsty romance at its best.
I also want to mention how strong the Prologue is in this book- it snags your attention right from the beginning! If you’re a friend of the rockstar romance, you’re gonna really enjoy this book!
what I didn't like-
There was a plotline that contained a bit of mystery- you were waiting for the truth to be uncovered. See what I did there? I know, I’m a comedic genius. Well, I guessed the mystery pretty easily. I’m going to start by saying, while making my way through this book I was in a reading slump and yet, this book held my interest so so well.
I wasn’t in the mood to read but it kept calling to me and I couldn’t help it, I needed to know where this story would lead.
I loved the entertaining aspect of it but I also loved the deeper, emotionally tougher storyline. It added so much depth to the characters and made for a really intriguing story.
Personally, I could relate to Reid on so many levels. His parts, his story, his complexity was written so well. And Brooklyn. Brooklyn was a treat. I absolutely loved her from the first page. Not only was she an amazingly congenial character but her strength and the way she views the world is so inspiring.
The slow burn love story was very magical to me. It felt like being a child again and reading about love for the first time and feeling hopeful and excited and all the warm bubbly feelings that I felt back then.
SJ’s vivid descriptions really added to that feeling. She has this way of describing moments and emotions that makes it all the more enthralling.
I fell in love. With the story, the characters. Everything about ‘Truth’ really spoke to me.
Everything leading up to the moment they finally fall in love was perfect. It was agonizing to go through the slow burn romance, but I felt like the anticipation for them to connect was worth it. It was all going to lead to this explosive emotional moment and I was waiting for it to happen. And it did. It was very well written, it wasn’t cringey or stereotypical and I loved that. It definitely added more to the magical love feeling that I was experiencing.
However, I feel like the resolution was rushed. Especially for Reid and what he went through and all that he dealt with. Granted, it is a romance novel, but I really wanted to see more of the resolution play out.
But I truly, honestly loved it. It was entertaining but also intensely moving and emotionally captivating!

This book was just okay for me. I liked the premise of it, but I really feel like it got lost in the Angelina story line which considering she is the reason for the turmoil is kind of odd. I think Reid’s trauma and concern was hammered into us way too much. It honestly started feeling redundant. I was also really bothered by the way he would say Brooklyn broke down his walls completely, but then he would kiss her and then pull away. I think it was too much back and forth and not enough proper build up.
Brooklyn was an interesting character because I really, really liked her in the beginning of the book, but I felt like she lost herself towards the end. One sentence has put Reid’s life on hold. He cannot move on until he knows the truth behind one vengeful sentence. He declared he would never let another woman in but when he meets Brooklyn, he starts to second guess that decision. Will he let his walls down and let her in? Or will he let who could be his other half walk away?
Brooklyn is all about family, family comes first. Her family needs help and when her best friend comes to her with an opportunity to end all her families suffer, she jumps on it. She thought she had an idea of who Reid was but she had no idea what she was getting herself into. He has her all tongue tied and doesn’t know if she can actually help him. When they start to develop feelings for one another will it turn into more or will Reid’s past stand in their way?
Sylvis made me hurt for Reid. I honestly didn’t blame him for being the way he is. Brooklyn is the silently strong type. You would never know it by looking at her. Sylvis hits a topic that may be a little taboo for some but I think needs to be talked about. I felt like Truth was uniquely refreshing. If you take a chance on Truth I think you would enjoy it.

Every book from SJ Sylvis just gets better and better! She is one of my favorite authors and I love her writing so much! She is super talented and can write deeper books like this one as well as wonderful romantic comedies!

Oh, this book gave me all the feels. I hadn’t read a Rockstar romance in years and Truth was the perfect welcome home. There was complexity to this story. I laughed. I cried. I swooned. I wanted to throttle Reid multiple times and then turn around and give him the biggest hug. He was dealing with some serious demons and coasted through this uncertainty and guilt that just broke my heart. He’s definitely my favorite a-hole. And then there’s Brooklyn. Oh my goodness, I adored her to pieces. She’s this sweet and introverted woman who wears cute dresses with pockets and Chuck’s on her feet but yet she has this roaring fire inside of her. And boy, does Reid fan those flames! Thank goodness for us! I love an enemies to lovers’ story and SJ does it so dang well. The push and pull between Reid and Brooklyn was so much fun to read. It’s a slow burn that totally pays off. There’s a little mystery and so much angst and LOL moments. I couldn’t get enough. SJ has become one of my favorite authors. She seriously does no wrong in my book!

But when she gets the chance to make some great money to help out her family, she is all over it. Til she finds out what the job is and who she is helping fix!
Reid, oh gosh I loved him so much! His heart, his protectiveness, just everything about him! He broke my heart with how he has went off to a dark side in his brain and can’t seem to figure out how to get outta it and back to his normal self. But does he really even want to go back to normal? Brooklyn coming into his life just might make him change his mind....maybe.
These two characters were amazing together! They were so perfect for each other. S.J. Sylvis wrote an incredible story.

This book and the author were both very pleasant surprises for me. I had never heard of her before and had no idea what to expect! However the blurb intrigued me that I just had to give it a try.
I very much enjoyed Brooklyn's character - introverted and slightly shy heroines are cat nip to me! Her shy strength drew me into the story and made it interesting where it could have slipped into a typical 'rock star' style rote. The back and forth between her and Reid and the progression of their relationship was very engaging. Be prepared though - it is a slow burn and you will get new slices of his story along the way as it unfolds. There were times I wanted to wring his neck a bit but then something new would be revealed and I would relent and understand a bit more about him. Many layers to peel back...
Overall a moving read with winning characters and definitely worth a read!

I love rockstar romances! I really enjoyed the characters of Reid and Brooklyn and the premise for the book. Brooklyn is an unassuming music teacher with this hidden talent for songwriting and singing. Reid is a famous rock star who is going through some issues and has lost his ability to write hit songs. So Brooklyn ends up being hired to help Reid write. Now there is a lot more to this, like how was Brooklyn chosen, what was the true reason for her taking the job, and why in the world does Reid need her help (you’ll have to read the book to find out!). I think if the writing flowed a bit more this would have been a 5 star read for me. Regardless I highly recommend picking this one up. There is a lot more to the story than what meets the eye at first. It definitely has a good amount of depth. I think you’ll fall in love with Brooklyn and what a sweetheart she is and Reid is a hot rock star...what else do you need!?

I am a GOSH DAMN SUCKER for musician stories. My heart just goes pitter patter at a bajillion miles a minute.
And Truth did not disappoint. Oh no, no, no, disappointment who? We don’t know her around this neck of the woods.
Brooklyn was my favorite. I just gobbled up her sassy, no fucks given bravery. She stood her ground and I loved it.
I mean doesn’t every amazing musician need a sassy, no bullshit, sarcastic women to keep his ego in check? If you didn’t know, the answer is hell yes they do.
Reid was, ugh *sigh, while fanning my face*. He was everything you want in a musician, sexy, flirty (but in a good way), sarcastic, and an ass sometimes (the lovable kind, yeah know?). Once he was in, he was all in.
I think in the end he was just what Brooklyn needed. They needed each other. Cue my heart swelling with love.

I loved the depth of this story. SJ proves how versatile she can be — she can not only write the funny RomComs, but the gritty, emotional contemporary romances too! From the first page, SJ hooks you with the drama & mystery. I loved watching Reid’s walls slowly come down whenever he was around Brooklyn. Their banter was my favorite part of this story. I loved Brooklyn’s quiet strength. I loved the twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I loved it all! Another job amazingly well-done by SJ. Can’t wait to see what story she wows us with next!

I'm still in awe because Brooklyn and Reid — along with their hilarious best friends 😂— gave me everything.

Butterflies. This book gave me butterflies in my tummy. It has been a minute since I cheesed so hard at a book. I loved the story and honestly really liked the characters! It was so sweet and just adorable and I cannot wait to read more from this amazing author!

If you’re looking for a rock star romance with some hilarious banter, lovable secondary characters, and a smokin’ hot rocker, this is IT. I loved these characters, their selflessness, and the way the heroine broke down the walls of the rough and tough hero.
