Audrey is finally moving into her first home. After years of scrimping and saving, she’s managed to secure a place of her own. When a man shows up soon after she’s said goodbye to the movers, she’s happy to make a friend in the neighborhood. Mark lends her a hand with painting and unpacking as the two of them fight chemistry neither can deny.
Despite some things being off, Audrey is content to overlook them as long as Mark’s hands are on her. That is until she discovers the truth: Mark hasn’t lived in the neighborhood for five years.
I loved this! I was immediately hooked after reading the blurb and bought the book. I read this in a couple of hours but a quick read in no way takes anything away from this beautiful story. Audrey is new to the neighborhood and finds a helper in painting and unpacking with Mark. I was so intrigued when she finds out that he hasn’t lived in the neighborhood for five years and was equally shocked when I read the reason why. I had skipped the Contents Warning page and went straight to the story or I already would have known. My mind was stuck on a nefarious reason but this was a twist that I never saw coming.
Audrey and Mark are instantly drawn to each other and over a short period of time, they build a friendship that quickly leads to so much more. I’m an introvert like Audrey so I really appreciated her hesitancy in wanting to initiate something more between them yet having the insecurity at reading the signs she thought she was receiving. I loved that they relished being in each other’s company just watching movies and eating take-out to the exclusion of the outside world because to each other, they were their world. Such a fantastic ending and a whole new Happily Ever After! My advice? Skip the Contents Warning page so as not to spoil the story. I think the only thing that would bother some is the explicit love scenes. Otherwise, settle down in your favorite reading spot and enjoy a fun and loving book and let Mrs. Douglas clue you in on the surprise.
