Son in Law meets Sweet Home Alabama as cultures collide when college friends enter a marriage of convenience to get what they need without help from their parents.
I need a green light on a green card ASAP.
If not, I’ll forfeit my new job in Alabama and have to move back to Oval Island.
Sure, it has perfect weather, beautiful beaches, and all my family. But it also has my ex—a lawyer, pilot, and the governor’s son, who the whole island is in love with. Well, except for me.
My solution? Propose a marriage of convenience to a friend. And by friend, I mean more of an acquaintance.
Liam may be a little rough around the edges, but he doesn’t think like your average guy with a closet full of camouflage—and that’s a good thing.
He’s American-born and raised, and I need citizenship. Also, his trailer is condemned, and he needs a place to live.
You may not can buy love, but it turns out you can buy a temporary husband . . . by buying him a new double-wide.
Kaci Lane is an Alabama girl whose mission in life is to write stories that relate to real-life issues with a bit of comic relief. While unsuccessfully trying to learn Spanish for a decade, she has become fluent in Sarcasm, Southern Belle and movie quotes. She is married to a true Southern gentleman and has two young children, all of which help keep her humility in check.
With a background and degree in journalism, Kaci has written almost everything about anything. Well, except for topics that would make any good Southern Baptist’s face turn the color of a Crimson Tide football jersey.

What a delightful story from Kaci Lane as always! Her books are funny, well-written, and sweetly romantic while being clean. The characters feel realistic too. I loved seeing Carmelita and Liam’s interactions and how cute they were together and how he cared about her getting closet organizers (lol). The redneck town was a humorous setting and so were all the cast of Liam’s family. Thanks to the author for my ARC; all opinions are mine.

Carmelita has graduated from university and is ready to cement her life in the USA with her first full-time job. She’s confident her job at Alabama Science Services will keep her parent’s from requiring her to return to Oval Island to take over the family business. Unfortunately, the first news she gets is that she needs a green card, like yesterday. Her second shock comes at a kind suggestion that getting married might move that process along.
Liam lives off campus in a trailer park and likes it that way. His own space, quiet, home. Then one morning he’s informed his trailer must be upgraded by the first of the year. He doesn’t have the funds to buy himself a new trailer, nor the guts to room with the options he finds around campus.
Carmelita needs a husband. Liam needs a home. A napkin agreement is made, but can they keep it under wraps? If they can’t, will Liam’s southern family and hometown scare Carmelita enough to run home?
Christmas in Alabama looks like my favorite kind of chaos! Each chapter is one crazy character after the next and I couldn’t put it down. Carmelita has such a sweet acceptance of all the crazy. Liam is…well he’s honestly like all the local guys in my small-town hometown. From the hunting to the camo to the cluelessness about women, I was enchanted by true southern gentleman.
I haven’t read the 2 other books in this series, which means there was an almost overwhelming number of characters and names to keep straight. I’m sure that wouldn’t have been an issue if I had read the books in order.
If you are looking for something sweet, kind of outlandish, with little angst and lots of sweetness, this Christmas read is a great choice!
This was such a cute and funny story. It was such a fun and engaging read. The many characters were quirky, zany, and fun. I enjoyed all the Christmas traditions, some familiar, some new to me, but definitely all with an authentic feel of large and crazy family gatherings, no matter where you call home…something I definitely relate to, no matter how different I am from the characters. “‘People around here are a little much, and I get that.’” Liam, “a gentleman with a strong streak of redneck flair”, needed to replace his dilapidated trailer, and Carmelita, his former tutor, needed to find a way to stay in the US for her new job. A marriage agreement seemed the solution. Unsurprisingly, they both caught feelings. An unexpected development that maybe shouldn’t have surprised them quite so much. “It just took me marrying someone for the wrong reasons to make me realize I want her for all the right reasons.” Once their families got involved, well, the fun really began. The relationship was really sweet and adorable. It’s pretty low-angst, considering the stakes, and was a very pleasant and diverting read. This book is part of a series, but it reads well as a standalone too. This is a closed door romance with mild innuendo and no harsh language.
Every time I see a new book from this author I know that I'm going to be in for a wonderful clean and refreshingly lovely story. The interconnections between the series that Lane writes is always a part of her her planned small town charm. Seeing the people and couples that I have read before is like visiting a small town I know and there is a great sense of homecoming with each booj . but don't be discouraged if you are new, each of these giggle fest books can stand on their own as well!
There's a charm To these stories that only someone who knows small town can bring. And in this book that idea is expanded as Carmelita finds herself on the wrong side of her work visa and Liam, who I have watched grow from a real kid to a man in this series, steps up and helps her out. This is a wonderful picture of what makes sweet romances so much fun to read! Not to mention it adds in the whole Auburn vs University of Alabama dynamic. I don't know where you stand, so Ill not say anything more about that, but I will Cheer Go Apple Cart!! Because this book is a home run, a field goal kick, and a slam dunk of A fun and flirty Rom Com as two people.discover just how special they are and how strong love can be!
Queen of my Double-Wide Trailer is the third book in the Apple Cart County Christmas series. While characters from previous books make appearances, this could be enjoyed just fine as a standalone as well.
Having grown up on 90s country music (my first concert as a kid was actually Sammy Kershaw/Randy Travis), I must admit that I was completely drawn into this book from the moment I saw the title. I needed no other information to know I had to add it to my TBR. Of course, having also read and loved many other books by Kaci Lane and having a deep love of holiday romances, that only amplified my excitement to read it. Thankfully, it absolutely did not disappoint.
This book was such a fun read. Modern marriage of convenience has quickly become a favorite trope for me, and this story takes it on well. I always love the reasons that authors come up with for their characters to enter such an arrangement. In this case, Carmelita needs a green card and Liam's trailer is about to be condemned so he needs a new place to live, and she's got money for a new double wide. There was just something so sweet and simple about how their arrangement came about... and I very quickly fell in love with these two together. Once they get to his hometown, the holiday fun and humor really gets going. I found myself smiling throughout the story. While some of the characters and the traditions definitely feel a hair over the top--- there was also something really relatable about it too. Despite their elevated characters, having grown up in the country, there is something about many of these characters that also feels very familiar to me... and I absolutely love that! It was fun, it was sweet, and it had all the holiday cheer I absolutely adore! If you're looking for a lighthearted holiday read that will surely make you smile, this is it!
Queen Of My Double-Wide Trailer is a closed-door romance with nothing beyond kisses and no language.
**I received an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.
I love every opportunity we get to come back and visit Applecart County. This modern twist on a marriage of convenience has our leading couple coming together to save his home and get her legal documentation to stay in the country to work. Liam was such an unexpected hero. We’ve seen him through his sister’s eyes and at least one cousin, and after their perspectives I wasn’t prepared for him to be quite so dashing and charming. With Carmelita, he’s an absolute sweetheart. And poor Carmelita. She’s caught in what feels like a never-ending web of expectations. It seems like so many people want something from her, but most of them she’s not prepared to give. It was so lovely to watch the way Liam cared for and supported her. These two weren’t holding any defensive walls against one another so it was almost effortless for them to accidentally tumble into love. I’m not ready to let go of any of the quirky residents of Applecart. I can’t wait until we can come back and visit again. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
Kaci Lane is the queen of writing romcoms that will make you laugh and will have your mouth hurting from smiling and swooning so much! Her books are filled with all the southern charm and sass! This book takes you home to experience Christmas in Alabama, and what a sweet yet hilarious trip it is! Carmelita finds herself in a situation where she needs a husband. Liam needs a place to live. Solid plan, right? I love forced proximity and dual POV, and I love how Kaci writes her characters and each event to make you feel as if you are there. The side characters we meet are also so well developed-you feel as if you have known them and have been a part of their family forever! Ready to get into the holiday spirit with a sweet southern HEA?! You’ll enjoy this novel with all the makings of a great rom-com (and even some twists you won’t see coming!) I am a huge fan of all things Kaci Lane!
Carmelita is from Oval Island and attended Auburn University on a student visa. She wants to stay in the US and has to find a husband to get her green card.
Liam’s trailer is set to be condemned leaving him no place to live.
When Carmelita suggested they get married, he isn’t sure if he should at first. He realizes they only have to married a year and he can get a new trailer and she can get her green card. They agree to have a marriage of convenience.
For Christmas, she goes home with him to meet his family. They both realize there are true feelings involved from both side during that week.
When she is forced to go back home to Oval Island, he realizes he doesn’t want to lose her. He finds a way to go after her to profess his love and she professes hers.
I sat down with this book preparing to have a good time. Well, that is exactly what I got! I loved this story of two completely different worlds coming together. Carmelita is the pearl of her island, and Liam is as redneck as they come. When separate circumstances turn into them needing each other, they agree to a marriage of convenience.
Everything goes well until their families find out. Then it's all a big Rollercoaster of Christmas traditions and family schemes. Oh, and don't forget mistletoe, lots of mistletoe!!
I was sucked into this book from the start and finished it in two sittings! Could have been one but kids. I love how Kaci paints the picture of rural Alabama. I felt like I was there celebrating a hillbilly Christmas with everyone in this book!!
Queen of my Double-Wide Trailer was the perfect book to get into the holiday mood. I have not read the other Apple Cart County books but I will be adding them to my reading list after reading this book. The story line was well thought out, the characters were easy to love, and I loved every part of this book. I loved how well she wrote the marriage of convenience. This book definitely goes on my list of favorite reads for the year. I read through this so quickly and can’t wait to dive into more stories from Apple Cart County!
*I received an Advanced Reader Copy from the author and these are my honest opinions*
Carmelita and Liam were adorable. I LOVE cultural differences, especially when they are awkward and hilarious, which they were! On one hand, you’ve got a redneck, with a closet full of ammo, deer heads on the wall, living in a dilapidated trailer (obviously Liam). And then on the other hand you have a ‘Filipino Princess’ so to speak, who is gorgeous, super smart and is from a well to do family on her island (enter Carmelita). This was such a fun and lighthearted read, with just the right amount of romance and humor. Just perfect for my first read of the new year. I have adored each and every Kaci Lane book, and am super excited to read more.
*I received a copy of this book as an ARC reviewer, but a positive review wasn’t required. All thoughts are solely what I personally thought of this beautiful book.❤️❤️❤️
I absolutely love this series and will always recommend it-rednecks, small town hijinks, and laughing out loud while reading ❤️ Liam & Carmelita are definitely opposites attract and enter into a marriage of convenience. Loved watching them fall for each other🥰
I loved this trip back to Alabama and the family traditions! Liam needs a place to live and Carmelita needs a green card so the logical plan is for them to marry. Easy plan since they're both at Auburn and away from their families. They need to be married for a year, their families do not need to know, easy, right? Wrong! Running into family members and exes is something Liam can't avoid and pretty sure he and Carmelita is drawn into the Christmas festivities at home. However, it's hard to tell what is acting and what is real the more time they are together. This book is full of humor and heart and I could not stop reading, yet at the same time I didn't want it to end! Throw together Southern traditions, parades, pearls and Christmas and it's an entertaining and heartfelt read!
I loved this one. Seeing Liam first hand instead of from other people’s points of view made me love him. And Liam and Carmelita were so cute together! This series is so fun and I love experiencing this family’s Christmas traditions each year from someone else’s perspective.
I received a copy of this book. Sweet story and characters... Loved that the story was set in Alabama with the Alabama and Auburn rivalry woven into the story..... Looking forward to reading more books by this author.
There are some authors that you just fall in love with their books and have to read everything they release. Kaci Lane is one of those authors for me. I am obsessed with anything to do with Apple Cart County (and absolutely plan to go into her backlist at some point) and Queen of My Double-Wide Trailer is absolutely no exception! It was fabulous! I love marriage of convenience as a trope and Kaci knocked it out of the park! I loved Carmelita and Liam together and how Liam always thought she was kind of out of his league and she had no clue he even thought of her like that. I also loved the time in Apple Cart and seeing all the Christmas traditions through Carmelita's eyes as that's a fun part of the Christmas books seeing the traditions through an outsiders eyes. But this was a great read and I totally recommend you all check it out!
This book was very much a Christmas-time Hallmark-esque movie vibe. Carmelita and Liam were immediately the cutest and every character in this book was likable. I LOVE a book where I don’t loathe someone. It was quick and easy to read, though in the same breath it was almost too rushed. I wish it had developed a liiiiiiittle more. Like, I wanted just a skoshe more of Liam and Carmelita and their story. But I’m also not mad about the end product either.
So cute. So sweet. Got me all in the mood for Christmas and cookies and now I want to visit Alabama which is not something I’ve ever said 😅
Kaci Lane's books just make me happy. And her Sweet Southern comedy books are so redneck that I always feel right at home in them! They crack me UP!
Oh. But I'm supposed to be talking about this one. I don't know how most people feel about the marriage of convenience trope, but it's one that I adore. And when one of those people is a redneck from Alabama, and the other is a genius from overseas, it adds to the comedy. Shoot, I'm even still smiling as I type this.
I love Apple Cart County and its residents. There's never a dull moment there, and their Christmas traditions are hilarious (cow-patty drop) to wow, I wish my family had those traditions (progressive dinner)!
If you want a book that will make you happy, make you laugh, and leave you smiling long after you've read it, pick up Queen of My Double-Wide Trailer (seriously. With a name like that, you know you're in for a treat!).
~I was given a complimentary copy of this book. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.~
This Southern girl's heart is full. I have laughed until my stomach hurts while reading this book. I knew I was going to love this book from the first chapter. I also knew that our main male character, Liam, was going to steal my heart when he goes to his frat party and is more interested in finding his Milo's sweet tea to drink than anything in a keg.
Liam is attending Auburn University, and he is really attending school for his education. He has no desire to get a degree in Party 101. He is a sweetheart, that was immediately apparent. He comes from a great family in Wisteria, Alabama. He is a simple guy with simple tastes. He is frugal with his money and lives in an old trailer in a park outside of town. He gets a notice on his door that he will either have to make some major repairs to his home, or they will condemn it for him. He needs a home.
Carmelita has just recently graduated from Auburn with her engineering degree. She has actually tutored Liam. Carmelita is from the Philippines from a wealthy family. She has no desire to return home and take over her family's business. However, she gets the shock of her life when she is told that her student visa has expired because she is no longer in school. If she is unable to get her green card, she will have to move back to the Philippines and will lose her new job. She needs a husband.
A marriage of convenience sounds like the perfect solution for these two. However, they are worlds apart from each other. They decide to give it a shot and remain friends only. The marriage will be on paper only. From that point forward, the wild ride will really start for these two, especially when Liam takes Carmelita home to celebrate Christmas with his family. This poor girl will not know what has hit her. She finds a loving family, who may be a little different from what she is used to for Christmas, but she feels at home. The laughs just kept coming. I never knew what I would find on the next page. I adored both of these characters as they tried to ignore their obvious feelings for one another. Liam's family was a barrel of laughs, but they also loved one another unconditionally. His sister is pregnant, and everything she did made me laugh. If you do not mind a visit to the South at Christmas, you will thoroughly enjoy this book as much I did. There is nothing more satisfying than a romantic comedy that truly provides comedic relief to me as the reader.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book of the author's that I've read and I'm interested in reading more from her. This is the third book in the Apple Cart County Christmas Series but can be read as a standalone. As someone who hasn't read the previous books, I didn't feel lost reading this one. The book's blurb is straightforward. This is a fun first person dual pov marriage of convenience romance.
While Carmelita loves her family, going back home to the Philippines and living out the life that they have planned for her, isn't something that she wants to do. She's looking forward to graduating and beginning her job at the company she's been interning at. When she's informed that she needs a green card to stay and work in the US, she's desperate to do anything to stay - including entering a marriage of convenience with Liam. Carmelita is so different from the girls that Liam has dated and he thinks she's out of his league. They aren't close friends but they are acquaintances and marrying her in exchange for help buying a new trailer is a good deal for him. As they spend time together with his family, both Carmelita and him begin to wonder what it would be like to stay married past their agreed upon time.
Carmelita and Liam were both pretty decisive individuals so I liked how the pacing of the story was fast but not rushed. Acting like a married couple in front of his family allows their feelings for each other to change, though they each had been attracted to the other before they began their arrangement, so I didn't mind how it was almost insta love between them. I would've liked to see more of a build up leading up to them each realizing their feelings for each other but it was fine as is. Their romance is a clean one consisting of only kissing and no foul language. The story was full of comedic moments and a group of interesting characters so readers will certainly be entertained. Overall, I enjoyed it and would like to read more from this series.
First of all, thank you Kaci for writing this book!! Queen of My Double-Wide Trailer is such a fun read. It is a clean, sweet, closed-door romance about a marriage of convenience. I loved Liam and Carmelita's story. There were plenty of moments where I laughed out loud and also lots of aahhs. I have quite a few family members that live in Alabama and there are so many parts that rang true of Alabama. Liam and Carmelita are complete opposites yet fit together perfectly. This is a very fun story to read and I'd recommend to anyone that loves a good rom-com, a marriage of convenience trope, and Christmas family stories! Kaci is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine! Read it! You will be glad you did!! **I received an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.**
The cultural differences, and the clean romance within the marriage of convenience along with the two families’ reactions to Liam and Carmelita’s new situation were sublime!
Totally appreciated Liam’s deep respect for Carmelita and how he treated her like a gentleman in (and after)‘interesting’ circumstances which cropped up!
So enjoyed being reunited with many of the great characters from Apple Cart County too including the animals and the Christmas traditions!
This can be read as a stand alone but would be even better if previous titles in the series are read first.
Thoroughly recommend this as it will leave you with a grin on your face!
Many thanks to the author for providing this copy for free and this is my own opinion, given voluntarily.
A marriage of convenience turns into a marriage of true love. Carmelita needs a green card or she'll lose her job and she can't have that happen because she doesn't want to go back to Oval Island, her home country to an arranged marriage. She is living in Alabama and falls in love with it. Liam lives in a trailer which is about to be condemned and needs a new home. What better solution than to get married? This is what Carmelita suggests to Liam. Who know she'd fall in love with his family and they with her. This was a wonderfully written story with such love and humor throughout. Thoroughly enjoyed this story.
I love Kaci Lane! I’ve read most of her books and this one was amazing too. A marriage of convenience for two people both needing something. I loved how this played out. They went from barely knowing each other to being married to their HEA! I loved that it was Christmas and of course Christmas with his family. It was funny, romantic, and just so something you’d see in a small town. I couldn’t put this one down either.
I liked the protagonists but every single other character was completely unlikeable and annoying. Most of the conflict came from poor communication, so all the misery was self-inflicted and avoidable. I would have liked to have spent more time with the couple on their own so I could see them getting to know each other. Instead almost the whole book is spent visiting families on both sides. I spent most of the book angry. Really not my cup of tea.
