As the undead rise from their graves, the Halter family fight to survive.
Former British army soldier, Joe Halter was prepared for a normal day with his family. But as sirens blare in the streets of London he has to go on a daring mission to save his daughter, while his wife fights for her life at home.
Not bad but as it is not particularly memorable. I would have liked more from the animal aspect of the contagion, the imagery we did get on that side was pretty cool though. Kinda bored of zombie stories featuring military people and survivalists but that one is probably on me for reading so much of the genre.
I read 31% of the book and just couldn't go any further. I didn't care about the main characters and how can a book about zombies actually be boring. Sometimes, when I'm reading a book, I can imagine the way the characters and the narrator sounded. With Deadfall, I imagined a dull robotic voice you get with some answering machines. The one star I gave this book was for having animal zombies as well as human zombies. That was an interesting idea wasted.
Living in suburban London, Joe is ex military, his daughter Tia is off out for the day with her gran, very begrudgingly but she’s dressed up as a bee and that’s a bit much to take even for a 10 year old. Soon after Tia and her gran left for the day the neighbour’s cat drags itself into his garden. It wouldn’t be anything to be concerned about but it died weeks ago and was buried in the neighbour’s garden. It’s going to be a very very bad day.
Interesting read, being set in the uk featuring zombie animals and humans focusing their attention on anything living. With a hasty goodbye to his wife Joe sets out across London in search of their daughter. A very tall order considering that the dead have literally risen from their graves. There are a lot of cemeteries across London add in the recently dead and those dying from their injuries not to mention how many dead rats birds and other animals there are in London and all bets are off.
This is not a book. This is a fragment of a book. It ends practically in the middle of a scene, with no resolution to any of the plotlines. If you buy this, be prepared to buy the next book in the series. Do not expect any kind of an ending to this book.
It was a fairly entertaining book fragment. It keeps things moving, never getting too bogged down in descriptive detail or character back-stories.
Definitely a book fragment in need of an editor. Misplaced modifiers, confusing lying with laying, basic stuff that an editor would catch somehow made it into the book.
I've read a lot of zombie books. The beginning of this one reels you in and keeps you on your toes. I have to say, quite honestly, the zombie virus in this world is terrifying. It's not often I find my heart racing when it comes to the genre. But this book, the beginning was just the right amount of suspense. The ending was a surprise twist that I honestly didn't anticipate. Overall, a solid and welcome addition to the genre!
This was brilliant! Absolutely everything I could want from an end of the world, zombie apocalypse! I loved that it was based in the UK, nice change! Great ideas, really enjoyable action & fast paced adventure! Well written, I had finished it in pretty much one day! I loved it all! I will look forward to the next part of this new & exciting zombie series! Always a great read! I do recommend for all that love zombies!
Took a bit to get into, but it has promise will read the next one. It’s a Brit zombie book so it’s got less guns so they have to think more rather than blast more and there’s multiple lines of story but all in all if you are a zombie apocalypse fan you’ll enjoy this one
This book is just not for me.. the writing style is odd. The author likes to start a thought and then just abandon it so you have to guess what happened? I’m not even sure what happened to the man in the sewer? Do you die from a bite? I’m still not sure Also ends on a complete cliffhanger.
This is the best zombie apocalypse book I've read in a long time! Lots of action, you'll be sitting on the edge of you seat. There's zombies, government, looters, gangs and family. Great characters you find yourself rooting for. Great read!
A different twist on a zombie apocalypse but the same stuff happens ... people acting stupid, the government not doing anything but throwing it all into the militaries lap and the responsible not owning up.....
Phil Maxey always writes a good story and this book the first in a new series is really good. Non stop action from start to finish ,a great developing plot and great character development. I really look forward to reading the next book in the series
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's very quick-moving and a read in one go. Not only do our characters have to worry about zombie animals and humans there is a murderer on the go as well.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, look forward to the next one. It was fast paced and personally i would have enjoyed some more gore but I cant wait to see how liz gets out of her situation.
Theres a zombie polar bear in the canal???
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Will read next book in series but found it to be mostly about a certain set of characters and the a tion parts were rushed with what seemed to be gaps in the storyline has the possibilty to be more and will read book 2 hoping for a little more detailand action
Not read any books by this Author before . I'm really impressed. The story is engaging and is full of twists and really unexpected surprises . Looking forward to the next book.
What happens with dead people comeback?? Seriously -- dead people are walking around -- and nothing hurts them!! But they have no problem hurting the live ones. This is a weird book -- but enjoyed it.
Too many chemicals and experiments to make crops more plentiful, kill bugs and save the planet. It all accumulated until the outbreak. Did that bring the dead back or was it something else.
A new pesticide gets into food chain and creates zombies. The governments shuts down cell phone networks. A former military man struggles to save his family
When it comes to dystopian, end of the world books, you can catch me reading it! This was very quick paced and pulled me out of a reading slump. Interesting idea: pesticides get into the food chain and the world is never the same. Zombies, zombies, and more zombies. This was also descriptive and had some gore at times but nothing too intense.
So what did not work for me? I think there could have been descriptive sections, character development, and added plot. Yes this was a good idea and it was entertaining but it missed a big part. It was all a little to quick and wrapped up without not having enough context. I just feel like if we had more context at the beginning when introducing characters and scenes, I would have rated it higher.
With all that, I would still read the next book!
Read if you like: - dystopian - movies like World War Z, Dawn of The Dead - fast paced - horror/psychological elements
