Callie Richards always has a plan. At least she did, until the first impulse decision she ever made left her fleeing across state lines and away from a volatile relationship. Now, finding herself in an even more dangerous situation deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains, she’s suddenly aware of how unsafe it is to be a woman in this world. With no way to defend herself, Callie is forced to run for her life.
Nathan Wolfe is an Ex-Special Forces Operator, seeking clarity in the mountains after years of experiencing the darkest depths of reality. Always living his life for other people, he’s lost himself entirely. When a soul-seeking hunting trip turns into a rescue mission, Nathan makes a split-second decision that will alter his plan for peaceful isolation.
When a chance encounter leaves her second-guessing every decision she’s ever made, Callie has to take a risk and put her trust in a stranger if she plans to make it through the day alive. As the threat grows even more complicated than either of them could imagine, Nathan is determined to keep her safe. Especially when the flames burning between them are more out of control than the forces acting against them.
If fate brought her to him, then he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her alive, even if it means fighting the ghosts of his past and thawing his frozen heart in the process.

I've gotta stop reading books I find on tik tok. The suspense wasn't bad but the insta-love was so dramatically out there it kept taking me out of the book. Dropping I Love Yous 3 days of knowing each other is wild, even with the circumstances.
I loved a lot about this book. I liked the characters and their growth and the story and the twists and turns. What I struggled with was the insta love. I think I could have looked past it if they didn’t say I love you after a week. Other than that I loved the book!
uhh it was a pain to finish this. Its traumatic because it touches really dark things, like kidnapping, trafficking, almost 🍇.And the couple ,okay they were nice but 1/2 days after all this and you fall in love with your savior and make sex everytime?Hell no.And she didn't go to a hospital. Not even once. She needed it.Beaten out, barely breathing? Perfectly fineeee, yess. Not realistic at all even if it's fiction.
LOVED IT! If you like fast paced and action-packed books this is your cup of tea. This book had me on my tippy toes from page 1!.. Best way to describe is Action Movie with a side of Romance. While the romance was romancing, honestly, I was more hooked into what was happening around the MMC and FMC and if she was going to make it alive! She sure got herself into a pickle for sure! What you're going to find: - Veteran MMC with PTSD and Emotional scars - Hero MMC devoted to rescue the FMC without even knowing her, just his sense of duty - FMC that is not a doormat, fighter, and a survivor - Insta lust/love, like FAST... I am talking 1 to 2 days when we're thinking about the L word. I rolled my eyes, but if you saw the movie SPEED and you wanted Sandra and Keanu to end up together right away, then you'll understand. They were IN DANGER people! the love had to be loving! - Fast pace, mystery and attempt murder, SA on page (check your trigger warnings) ... the plot was plotting...
Anyhow, I went in totally blind, influenced by BookTok, thinking this was going to be a "wounded veteran" romance (as I am in my military phase apparently) and BAM ended up on this action move! I mean, again, if you like Speed with Sandra & Keanu, you're going to LOVE this one... it was freaking awesome...
This book is action packed from beginning to end. Callie leaves her boyfriend in Georgia to return home to Tennessee and her parents. Along the way, she is kidnapped, assault and almost sexually assaulted. She is able to escape and comes across Nathan, who is able to rescue her and take her to his cabin. But neither of them is going to feel safe until Callie's attackers are caught. When they try to follow the normal routes of getting someone arrested, they find out that the county sheriff is involved too. With no where to turn but to himself, will Nate be able to keep Callie safe, or will she fall back into a trap with her attackers that leaves everyone changed forever? Will the bond that has formed between Callie and Nathan be enough to carry them through?
I loved every second of this book, I even somewhat overlooked the instalove because of the situation that both of these people were in. They both just needed someone to believe in them so bad that when they met, it just clicked. It was suspenseful, but there were also spicy moments and the banter between these two when they were not fighting for their lives was amazing!
The first maybe 1/3 of this story was ok, plot was being developed well, FMC was normal enough and interactions with her kidnapped seemed plausible.
But the last 2/3 of the book, from about the time they got back to Nathan’s cabin, it was almost as if the author had pasted the first part of book into chatGPT and said finish my book with these dot points and it was AI generated. Their actions made no sense, eg. their lack of emergency in actually reporting to police, it was put off for so long both times which makes no sense, their conversations in general were lacklustre and generic with no real bonding. Yet they were instantly in love. Even the twist at the end was very obvious and more a dot point and very rushed to tie up loose ends.
It had a lot of potential at the start but just felt like it was written by 2 different people. Won’t be reading the second in the series.
If you are looking for a suspenseful, thriller romance, you definitely need to pick up this book! I’m so glad I found this story and have nothing but great things to say about it. If you love a slow burn but written in the best way, where you are rapidly going threw the pages just to see what’s going to happen next, than this book is definitely for you as well! If you believe in fated mates, right place, right time, then this book is also for you. I believe this story has a little of everything for every type of reader and I recommend everyone pick it up! Thank you Amber for an awesome story!
Nathan & Callie’s story was so incredibly beautiful🫶🏼 I loved Nathan’s dedication to her, the way he laid eyes on her & decided that he’d do anything for her 🥰
Her writing is super easy to read while also painting a beautiful picture of what’s going on. I enjoyed the plot so much (romantic suspense forever!!) I’m so glad I stumbled upon this book 🫶🏼
This ex military, instalove, romantic suspense has been on such a book hangover. I absolutely loved it & can’t wait for the next one!!
Loved the plot: their chance encounter was written really well. The story is packed with action and sweet moments, and I genuinely enjoyed it. But… I just couldn’t get past the timeline. Everything happens in three days: “I love you” after three days, and a proposal after one month? I get that the circumstances were special and heightened, but it still felt rushed. That insta-love element pulled me out of the story a bit and made me pause with a “really? already?” The author could have paced the timeline better to make the romance more believable.
I absolutely love finding hidden gems like this book. I stumbled on a tik tok the author had made promoting it and knew I was going to enjoy it. Honestly, the suspense part of romantic suspense books oftentimes can fall by the wayside and be forgotten until the climax, but that’s not the case here. There was great balance between the two which can be tough to do. I cannot wait to read more by this author!
First half was probably a solid 4 stars for me. Pacing was a bit odd at times and the last half brought it down to like a 3-3.5 for me. The never ending declarations of love got a bit old and some of the spicy scenes were kind of meh for me (some were great though!)
Rounded up given it’s a newer author and I think for romance lovers they would enjoy it. I’m not usually a big romance lover so more of a 3 on my personal scale
Be still my heart ❤️ MMC was a badass, yet totally cinnamon roll. FMC was also well written.
I really appreciated the simplicity of the story. The author didn't feel the need to detail every tree he ran by to rescue her. She also didn't draw out the two weeks stake out with inner monologue and pointless phone calls. Well paced also.
Episode number 373729927 of authors ruining perfectly good books by having the characters too insta-lusty:
- 2 days in and they're having sex - 3 days in and they're saying I love you.
Honestly this could've been awesome if not for the fact that the insta lust was over the top here, to the point where I just couldn't focus anymore. There was absolutely zero tension. The plot was interesting and unique, but the execution made it boring because there was nothing to look forward to.
I found this book to be very enjoyable to read, love romantic suspense novels so I liked it instantly. The only reason it’s 4 stars instead of 5 is the insta love part, I know someone call fall in love really quickly in real life so it’s not impossible, but alas not my favorite trope. Everything else was very good. Good grammar (or at least I didn’t spot any mistakes while reading), and a good story with spice on top. I will probably read this book again in the future !
This book starts off strong but quickly gets boring until about the 50% mark. Unfortunately the next 25% of the book is just them sleeping together in increasingly ridiculous situations. Just had your lives threatened by the sheriff who knows where you live? Of course you're gonna have sex instead of doing anything to keep yourselves safe. Ridiculous. The ending isn't bad but I was so bored by that point it was hard to care.
Callie and Nathan have my heart! This story is full of suspense, with quite the interesting turn of events that lands Cassie essentially right in Nathan's arms. Turning two strangers in so much more and sets off a whirlwind storyline, filled with forced proximity, outside threats, insta-love (ish) and an overprotective military man!
Our FMC, Callie had just left a not so good relationship, and had packed up her car driving across states back home to her parents house. Her car had other plans though, breaking down at just the worse place and time, leaving her vulnerable on the side and leading to her becoming the target of two absolutely foul men.
Nathan had semi-recently retired from the military, and lived a life of essential solitude in his cabin up in the woods. Spending most of his time out in the woods, hunting for the most part. That is until he sees a woman running and being chased by two men deep in the woods, Nathan's instincts take charge and he knows he has to save her. This is just the beginning for this absolutely, automatically devoted couple.
There is such a good balance of plot and budding romance. I really loved that the author gave us background on the characters, particularly loved how much information we got about Nathan and some of his time in the military. There was also our fair amount of spice that happened at all the perfect moments 👀🌶️. Obsessed with how much of a gentleman Nathan was, but then how much he could also take control. Just highly recommend this book!
This one had me kicking my feet the entire time! The FMC & MMC have such an immediate connection (which I LOVE) and he is everything I could want in a broody MMC. I can't wait for the second book to come out later this year! ALSO the spice is *chef's kiss*! Check your TWs. This book does have some dark elements to it, though I wouldn't call it a dark romance! ENJOY!
I saw a tiktok for this book and was immediately hooked. It has all my favorite things including: instantlove, touch her and d**, possessive MMC, and damsel in distress. There was NO third act breakup and I couldn’t help but kick my feet and giggle over how much he cared for her!!! He was willing to do ANYTHING for her and I do mean anything!!
Ughh, I so badly wanted to hug Callie!! Poor girl...
Such a good read! Love the chemistry between them! Was their relationship a little rushed? Maybe, but if I were in Callie's shoes, I would fall in love instantly too! I needs me a Nathan !
Love Nathan and Callie. Jesse and Thea.. you're next!
That moment when your reading a favourite author (Tilly Colson check her out too) and the characters recommend a book to each other. Off I went to download thinking hmmmm that sounds like my kind of thing.
This book did not disappoint true suspense with amazing romance. I can't wait for more.
I loved the premise of this story so much! It starts out with such great intensity and really gets the adrenaline going. Obviously it takes place over a very short period of time but it didn’t feel like it was enough to fully connect with the characters. I think at times that threw the pacing off. The ending was just as heart pumping and I enjoyed how it set it up for the second book.
This was a good book. I have not read this series in the correct order at all. I have read book 4, 2, and 1 in that order and next I’m going to read book 3. This book was good and I really liked them mcs in the book, and I felt so bad for Cassie. Out of the 3 I have read so far this one is either my 2nd or 3rd fav.
This book was so CAPTIVATING! The only reason I give it 4 stars is cause I wanted more!!!!!!!!! I loved this couple so much! What they went through together to get their happy ending was nothing short of a miracle! I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
3.75. I really like the trope, and the storyline was really good. However, there was just a little too much inner monologue for me. It was hard to stay connected, and I found myself wanting to just skip pages. But it was still a good book.
It was good- not like great but it was good. About Callie and Nathan- Nathan’s a ex military guy and he saved Callie when she was running from 2 bad guys and their relationship was super fast they said ily after like 3 days. Not a bad book just idk not super memorable but it was nice
This was ok. I actually liked Nathan's story at the beginning. But I was pretty bored as the story continued. It felt pretty generic and like other small town romantic suspense stories. Which normally my go-to is romantic suspense. But this one just was pretty flat.
This book was super cheesy, but I really enjoyed it with a classic damsel in distress is rescued by the hero. Now she does put up a hell of a fight too, but it definitely is instant love, damsel falls for hero. Great pallet cleanse from some of my other books and I’ll continue to read more!
