Texts I Never Sent by Ariel Day

TW: familial abuse, breakup, mentions of sex

"I hope you know that when I rehearse my life story on planes, trains and long cat rides, you have a starring role"
"I would have told you but you never asked"

This is SO PRETTY AND BEAUTIFUL!! So many brutal but need to know stories in here. I don't personally relate to anything in this book but I loved it still :D

texts i never sent
★★★☆☆

"You said I had trust issues
but really
I just dont trust promises
that couldn't,
or shouldn't,
be kept"

I liked that this was really easy to read and brief in a straight to the point sort of way. It was also very relatable and honest. It's powerful in a subtle, cathartic way.

This brief collection of poems is a comforting piece covering love, life, loss, and heartbreak. The writing style is more modern and short rather than classical in terms of rhyme and organization, but I think that that is what makes it more honest. The poems feel like sudden midnight thoughts and truths that are begging to spill out. That being said, I think it could've been a bit longer and more complex.

I think that this was an enjoyable, relaxing piece with quite a few lines that particularly grabbed my attention, but it also feels that it lacked a personal sense-it could've had more depth that could have triggered more emotion and provided more unique effects. However, if you are feeling lazy or are in a reading slump, I think that this would be refreshing and easy to read, so your time would not be really wasted with this.

~ i want to be seen but i'm too afraid to take the risk ~

~ you never really knew me but i wish you did (báseň strangers in a crowd)
~ i would have told you but you never asked (báseň layers)
~ i faked all of my "orgasms" (báseň surprise)
~ i still think about you everyday (báseň background noise)

Heartbreakingly beautiful texts that have been typed and remain unsent to an ex.
A simple yet effective way to find some closure and freedom from your thoughts and emotions for sure.
I think many if us can relate to the thoughts and feelings captured in the messages and concept of the book.
Beautiful and heartbreaking words.

It was a really quick and emotional book 🥹🥹🥹🥹

I loved the messages she sent and ones she couldn’t but wanted to because if we are being honest we all have been there. I have messages I wish I could send but was scared of the repercussions 😢😢😢😢

I love this simple poetry book and it was cute I just wish it was a bit longer

I normally don’t care for modern poetry. However, this was — I can’t say a pleasant surprise because the themes were indeed sad. I think this was interesting and heart provoking to read. I kinda wish it were longer but I also think it being such a short book left no room for disappointment for someone like me who usually does NOT like modern poetry though I read it to give it a chance at times.

Towards the ending the poems felt lazy, like they weren’t given effort. Although, there was one quote that stuck out to me, “just because we share the same blood eyes and last name does not mean you were ever a father to me.”

Poetry??

“i would have told you but you never asked.”
That quote is poetry? Poetry has gotten so lazy in the 21st century, it’s honestly sad. People call anything poetry these days. These really are just text messages or even tweets. Nothing poetic or beautiful about them.

The only bad thing I can say about this book is that I wish there were more poems in it. Because the themes are good, and I know that a lot them will resonate with people. So overall, and fantastic (but short) collection of poems^^

Okay, but not one that got me rereading each poem because it hits hard. I got through it within 10minutes, didn’t really have much impact and not one I’d read again. Glad I got a free download on kindle unlimited and didn’t waste my money on buying the book which I usually do for poetry.

Quick and Resonating

This Poetry book felt extremely quick AND it is short but the poetry/text resonate with you that you keep swiping to get to the next emotion. I read this right before work and i want to read the second one

I wanted to enjoy this poem collection but I felt it lacked so much which made me disconnect from the words. The words didn’t have any soul or heart to them just basic, generic and gave nothing, no depth and no impact because it felt very low effort. It felt lazy🫢
