Michael Bomberg was largely ignored and ostracized during his lifetime despite lifelong attempts at fighting for the relevancy and recognition of his work. And almost immediately after his death in 1957, a retrospective was launched that gave him the fame he so longed for in his lifetime. I n 1988, the Tate Museum curated an exhibition of the works of British artist Michael Bomberg. British art critic Richard Cork wrote a biography for the artist that was among David Bowie’s list of favorite books. He owned several of the paintings from the artist who’s style was anything but consistent. For an artist who constantly reinvented himself like Bowie, I can see the appeal.

Study of the neglected artist David Bomberg, once famed for his early promise ... several color plates enable one to gauge the unusualness of his responses to landscape ... vibrant use of color ...

Not going to give this one a rating, since it's really a show catalog. But it is on the Bowie list, so I made sure to read it.
