Meet London's newest amateur sleuth, Scottie Ramone, in Banana Chiffon and Bad Deeds—A prequel novella to the Scottie Ramone Cozy Mystery series.
A missing grandmother, a murdered neighbor and a crush from the past are just a few of the surprises waiting for Scottie in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Scottie Ramone has been having a lot of second thoughts about a lot lately; her pastry chef job in a five-star restaurant, her looming extravagant wedding (future mom-in-law’s idea) and spending the rest of her life with Jonathan Rathbone. The one thing she has no doubts about are her plans to open a vintage bakery. When Scottie receives a frantic, late night call from her grandmother all her dreams, second thoughts and a truly delicious banana chiffon cake are put on hold. Much to her fiancé’s chagrin, Scottie packs a bag and heads up to Grandmother Evie’s house in Ripple Creek. Will she be able to sort out the chaos that awaits? Will she make it back in time for her own wedding? Scottie knows one thing for sure; no amount of flower bouquets or yards of silk and lace will pull her away from Ripple Creek. She’s not leaving until she finds her grandmother.

A bizarre phone call late one night has Scotlyn Ramone fearing for her grandmother's safety. Though it's only a few days until her wedding, Scottie makes the trek from the city to her Nana's cabin in a remote mountain village. Nana is missing and the next-door neighbour is found murdered. Scottie can't go home yet, not even to say her vows.
The mystery in this book works more as a delivery system for an introduction to Scottie Ramone. There's plenty of backstory as well as details about Scottie's current life. London Lovett did a fantastic job bringing these elements all together in so few pages.
Banana Chiffon and Bad Deeds is a brilliant introduction to the Scottie Ramone Cozy Mystery series. I am looking forward to my next read in this lineup.
Scottie Malone is rethinking her upcoming wedding and her job as a pastry chef. When she gets a call from her grandma, she takes off and leaves just before the wedding. Turns out the next door neighbor has been murdered and her grandma is missing. A fun cozy mystery that is quick reading and entertaining. Highly recommended.
I have been reading a lot of dark romance and mystery. The last two books I read brought on such sadness and I needed a refresh, something that would brighten my outlook and reset my mystery seeking brain. This book was it. It's a well written short book that reminded me to look out the window and appreciate the butterflies and birds. The mystery keeps moving forward at a realistic pace without heavy character development. I love that I could picture the character's expressions and emotions without droll development. Really well done! Can't wait to read more from this author.
A great start to a cozy mystery series....Scottie races to her grandmother's home a few hours away after receiving a disturbing phone call, just days before her wedding. When she arrives, she finds that her grandmother is missing and her neighbour has been murdered. Throw in an old school girl crush, and an investigation into the disappearance, and it all makes an entertaining and easy read. In my mind, I was urging Scottie to dump her fiancé's butt, and could see why grandma would think the same.
I hate it when I write a review and it disappears Into the universe.I love this story And the relationship between the protagonist and her grandma.I was very close with my grandma and also with my mother-in-law.A lot of scotties memories Brought back a lot of my own memories and brought me to tears; Which is not an easy 'feat. 5 stars for a cozy Mystery is unheard of But this book definitely deserves 5 stars from me anyway.exe
I received this book as an Arc from the author and I’m writing a review voluntarily. A woman on the verge of her wedding gets a call from her grandmother. She’s scared and gets cut off. Frantically she drives there. There’s been a murder and Granny is missing. Can she resolve this? Highly recommended!
Audiobook listened to at 1.3x with ease. Your classic cozy read with all the elements of a good Hallmark mystery: a baker with an upcoming wedding, missing gramma who calls frantically late one night, and a law enforcement hottie who was a first crush. Check, check and check. A good fun read that kept my attention but ended just a tad too abruptly. All in all though, a great start to a series.
This was a cute little, quick read mystery. A murder, a supposed missing grandmother, and a fiancé that turned out to be the wrong man made for a great little story.
This was a fun prequel to the Scottie Ramone series! How did Scottie end up back in the mountians to start her 'old fashioned' bakery? Read this novella to find out and be introduced to the more frequent side characters.
This is a cute cozy mystery that is good to pass the time, but a bit cliche' and I couldn't believe how long it took her to get rid of her looser boyfriend! All in all though it was enjoyable.
This series seems like it will be great!!!! Loving Scottie, the main character and her sweet Nana!!! I’ll bet she gets herself into some interesting situations!!!
A good book if fast-paced is your thing. One thing that surprised me was how fast our amateur sleuth put things together in the investigation. I also feel the solving of the case was made easy by the murderer just admitting what happened, not putting a fight up, just accepting his fate.
