I was supposed to be on a winter vacation with my best friend in the delightfully snowy town of Stowe, Vermont.
I was supposed to be sipping hot chocolate, staying up late, and sharing secrets.
I was supposed to be making a fool of myself on the bunny slope and sneaking glances at hot guys.
I was not supposed to be sitting in the SUV I’d just rear-ended.
I was not supposed to lose my hotel reservations because said rear-ending made me miss check-in.
And I most definitely should not be sharing the cabin of the hottest man I’d ever touched.
Oh, did I mention the SUV and cabin belong To. My. Ex?
Can you call someone an ex if you never actually broke up?
God, he looks good. The last four years have definitely been kind to him. So, would it be so bad if we shared a kiss—only one—for old times' sake?
But... What if we could make it work? What if how easy it has been to slip back into an “us” means there’s still hope?
What if this vacation isn’t just a getaway but a journey back home—for keeps this time?
Christmas for Keeps is a heartwarming gay holiday romance between a second-grade teacher who seems to make a habit out of needing to be rescued and a charming ex frat bro who’s always up for being a knight in shining armor. It also features forced proximity (only one bed), second chances, a picturesque town with the friendliest residents (minus one pesky and persistent neighbor), so much heat there’s no need to light the fireplace, and a HEA eight years in the making.
Christmas for Keeps by Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood is a heartwarming holiday romance that delivers a perfect blend of nostalgia, second-chance love and festive cheer.
Zach and Connor are the wonderful characters from the amazin book Swimming Against the Tide. If you haven’t read it, go for it.
Zach and Connor started dating in college, and at the end of Swimming Against the Tide they were a really happy couple, madly in love for each other. I could not suspect what was going to happen to them some time later. Due to complexities of life, although being deeply in love, they drifted apart.
Ryan and Josh do a remarkable job of depicting the genuine turmoil that life events can bring, depicting how grief can manifest as confusion and emotional withdrawal.
The story takes a delightful turn when Connor and Zach collide in a fender bender during a snowstorm. What ensues is a heartwarming journey of rediscovery and rekindling romance in the cosiest of settings. The authors skilfully unravel the character’s insecurities and past regrets, making their growth and healing all the more poignant. They have an amazing ability to convey raw and honest emotions. The characters express their emotions in a way that’s authentic and relatable.
The story beautifully portrays a range of emotions, from laughter and joy to confusion and regret, creating a deep connection between Zach and Connor, but also with the reader. The chemistry between Zach and Connor is palpable. The book strikes a perfect balance between sweetness and spice, making it a delightful read for the holiday season.
Christmas for Keeps is a heartfelt, second-chance romance tale. It’s a heartwarming holiday romance that makes you feel good, stirs your emotions, and leaves you with a warm and happy sensation. If you enjoy books by Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood, this one is a must-read and should be on the top of your list for seasonal reading.
I strongly recommend it if you’re a fan of MM romance and stories about love getting a second chance.
I received an ARC from the authors for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
When we first fell for Zach and Connor in Swimming Against the Tide, you knew they had something special. Then life got in the way, and two boys were not quite ready for the big life decisions, and they did what so many of us have they let their own insecurities hinder them from happiness. Fate decided to give these two a second shot at happiness when they literally crashed into each other on a trip in Vermont. They learn you must communicate to make life work, you can not let your past dictate your future, and sometimes fate gives you a second chance for the holidays. Another great holiday read from this married writing duo where it feels more real.
3.5 stars When I decided to read this book, intrigued by the blurb. I didn't realised it was about Zach and Connor from Swimming Agaist The Tide. Reading that they've been broken up for 4 year was awful, they were so sweet together! I cannot imagine how alone they must felt during the years since their separation.
The first chapters of the book were a little frustrating: Connor keeps putting off their conversation, letting the tension grow between them. But then, finally, they have an honest conversation that brings them back together. Connor had a hard time after his father's death and depression prevented him from seeing things more clearly. Their reconnection is very sweet and emotional.
What prevented me from giving an higher rate: Between the two of them, Zach seemed the one more invested in their reconnection, Connor held back and he was too much prone to believe other people's lies than his boyfriend's truth.
Lastly, the epilogue is beautiful and I'm so happy the authors brought Jeff back. Recommended
I received an Arc of this book from ForewordPR and this is my honest review.
OMG! Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood have done it again with this book which continues and concludes the love story between Zach Harris and Connor Wells, who we first meet in Swimming Against the Tide.
Zach and Connor are eight years older now and have to overcome four years of heartbreak and zero communication.
This gay romance is sweet, hot and oh-so-satisfying HEA. If you are a fan of the authors' previous works, keep an eye out for Easter eggs as well.
If you haven't read this book yet, I highly recommend you do.
I really enjoyed this book. It was so heartwarming the way Zach and Conner found each other again after being apart and thinking the other had moved on. It took a snowstorm and a fender bender to bring them back together. They begin to rebuild their relationship only to have it nearly destroyed by the neighbour, Emory, who harbored feelings for Zach. When they find out that Emory had lied it cements their relationship and it works out. Really worth reading. I would defiantly recommend to a friend for some sweet holiday reding.
Ryan and Josh have done it again! Christmas for Keeps is a delightfully charming, beautifully written, and engaging holiday romance about fate and second chances. Zach and Connor’s love story began in Swimming Against the Tide and continues in this book, although it can be read as a standalone. Their second chance meeting hooked me from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the storyline and the characters. Their realistic love story is one you don’t want to miss! I highly recommend it!
In Swimming Against The Tide, we met Zach and Connor who had strong feelings and tenderness for each other but life often gets in the way causing difficulties that we put there, this was the case with Zach and Connor, luckily with fate and persistence, they found a second chance.
Their second chance wasn’t easy as they found that trust was a large issue causing a divide between them.
Then eight years pass!
Through perseverance and talking they knew the right road to take, the road to their hearts.
This a beautifully written Christmas story with the feelings of cosiness, hot drinks and snow making this book “ Christmas For Keeps “ a must-read.
Another wonderful book by Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood.
Oh my God, Iove the books Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood put out. The universes they've created - and continue to grow - are just perfection.
If you've read Swimming Against the Tide (and if you haven't, GO READ IT!), you'll recognize these characters. College sweethearts that life happened to. As happens in real life, sometimes what grief looks like is confusion and shutting down. After a freak fender bender - and the cutest house ever - one stormy night turns into days of rediscovering each other. With that comes confessions and insecurities, a neighbor you'll want punched in the snoot, and growth. Lots of growth. One thing I love about this writing duo is that they aren't afraid to show their characters of all sexes having honest, true emotion. Crying, laughing, confusion, regret - as it should be. And because of that, their characters are very easy to relate to and fall in love with. (LOVE ME SOME ZACH!) Book is spicy and hot but not over the top, perfection for real love.
Any book by this married couple is always an auto buy for me, and this one is going to be at the top of my reread this season. It'll most definitely get you in the mood. Definitely recommend!
This was everything I look for in a holiday book and so much more! It’s packed full of heart-melting moments, cuddles, cheer, and joy, but it goes so much deeper than that. Zach and Connor have a profoundly deep emotional connection that left me in awe. Their physical chemistry is an inferno that’s sure to keep you warm even in the dead of winter.
I read a lot of holiday books, and I am positive that this book will eclipse all the holiday flufff that I will read this year. This book was artfully written to show a whole different side of Christmas. The emotional side. It is such a real, raw, and sentimental story.
I adore the way that these two meet up again after many years. Some will say it’s destiny, and yes there was some of that. However what really hit me was the way these two made a conscious choice to work through some heady emotions and past trauma. They chose to be brave and courageous because their love and future was worth it.
Zach and Connor’s story is a poignant reminder that sometimes life doesn’t happen the way you expect, and sometimes that’s for the best. I enjoyed this book immensely and can see myself pulling it out to read again and again.
Christmas for Keeps is a second-chance holiday novel about an ex-couple who drifted apart as life went on.
As I understand, the MCs were introduced previously in another book as side characters. I haven't read that book but I didn't feel like I was missing any important details. It worked as a standalone just fine but I guess if you want some backstory about their first go around you could read that book as well. The title is Swimming Against the Tide.
So, Zach and Connor dated while they were in college and for a little bit after graduation as well, but as life got hard for Connor, he started to close himself off from Zach and avoid him. They were very young and, I believe, unprepared to deal with something so heavy. Neither reacted or behaved as they wished and eventually they lost contact.
Neither was completely at fault and neither was completely right. Life just happened and they didn't know how to deal with what was happening. It's sad that they still loved each other so much but still allowed for space and time to get between them. However, I can understand why neither tried to make contact for all these years until they met by chance.
The story started off very nicely, introducing the characters and giving some of their backstory. The reconnection went smoothly and it was clear that both still had feelings for the other.
What I didn't like was the miscommunication and Connor's habit of shutting down and refusing to speak to Zach or even listen to him. It was something that drove them apart in the past and it's something he was still doing four years later.
The neighbor that caused some issues between the two was dislikable right off the bat but I think that was what the authors wanted anyway. On the other hand, based on a scene near the end, I think it's possible he'll get a book of his own at some point.
As for this one, it's a sweet story about second chances and two people who want to work through their issues. It has a chance encounter, a lot of snow, Christmas shopping, gifts, and new beginnings.

A beautifully written and emotional book. If you haven't read it already I fully recommend reading Swimming against the tide first as this book is a follow up.
This book is set 4 years after the events in swimming against the tide and is a second chance for Zach and Connor to get things right. What I loved most was that it wasn't a second chance meet and immediately everything was ok, but an emotional journey dealing with past hurts and present interference from others. The characters draw you in and take you with them as they navigate their way to A perfect happy ever after. We even had mentions of other characters from the authors back catalogue.
In all this was a fantastic read, full of love angst tears and a well deserved HEA.
My mistake here might have been that I didn't read Swimming Against the Tide first. So please take that into consideration as my review doesn't seem to mesh with many others.
I enjoyed the start of the book - very cute first few chapters and setting up scene of how Connor and Zach literally run into each other again after drifting apart 4 years prior. It's sad because they both still care for the other and there is quite a bit of hinting around that something happened... or didn't happen for them to be apart.
But after that point, I just felt that Connor wasn't all in like Zach was - he was too immature. We spent chapter after chapter of him knowing he needed to talk to Zach, yet letting other distractions get in the way. It wore on me because it felt like stalling. Then Connor runs away all the time. And he doesn't trust Zach. By the time we got to the end, I wasn't rooting for them to be together. I wanted Zach to find someone better.
Then the one other thing that got me frustrated was the writing of interrupted or stopped sentences of thought. It seemed like a crutch to extend the scenes. These are real examples from the book - there are just so many.
"How could I—" "But all he did was make me—" "You've been crying and angry. I—" "I didn't—" "I haven't—" "Afterward—" "The second time—"
Sadly, a 2/5 star read for me. I love holiday books and was disappointed in this one. Thinking back, it really didn't even matter that it was the holidays in the book. It was Vermont in the winter and there was a snowstorm. Not a lot of holiday feels.
This was my first read by these authors and I will try something else by them hope that I just didn't feel this one because I didn't read the first novella about the beginning of Zach and Connor's relationship.
Cal and Zach were college sweethearts but tragedy in Cal’s life left them to drift apart. A chance encounter brings them back together when Zach easily steps into his old role of protector and saves Cal once again.
They spend a magical holiday together reconnecting and healing from past hurts, with only a few bumps along the way they find their way to a HEA.
I liked this second chance romance and how they didn’t immediately give in to old feelings but spoke about everything and found a mature way to make sure this was the forever they could both have.
Expect plenty of steam, some swooning, a real romance and two guys who are perfect for each other and willing to put the work in to stay that way.
When Connor and Zach run into each other four years after their “breakup”, sparks are flying like they never missed a beat. This heated MM holiday romance is the perfect Christmas read! Full of second chances, endearing characters, and just the right amount of chemistry! Connor and Zach’s story kept me entertained the whole time and rooting for their happily ever after.

▪️Heartwarming Holiday Romance ▪️Small Town Charm ▪️Spicy Second Chances
Genre/type: Holiday Romance Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3.5/5 Series or standalone: Stand-alone Tropes or themes: Small Town, Forced Proximity, MM Romance, Second Chance, Only One Bed, Long Awaited HEA
What a great read. We first met Connor and Zach in Swimming Against the Tide. I really enjoyed that book, but when I heard that this book was about them, I was eager to read it. This book is 4 years later and they are not together again. When Connor is on his way to Maine for vacation with his friend. Unfortunately due to a snow storm his friend couldn’t make it. When he hit black ice and skids in the car in front of him, he meets Zach again. As they slowly started communicating, they both realized what happened all those years ago. Great second chance romance to a happy ever after.
I feel like I read a different book than others. I thought from the reviews that I would love this book. But alas, was very disappointed. I did not read Swimming Against the Tide and didn’t even realize that there was a preceding book so I thought it did well as a standalone. Unfortunately, I also thought Connor was immature and selfish and that Zack could do better.
Tropes: ❄️MM Romance ❄️Holiday Romance ❄️Second Chance ❄️Forced Proximity ❄️One Bed ❄️”It’s always been you” ❄️HEA
Christmas for Keeps follows Connor and Zach. Connor and Zach dated in college and were madly in love. But when life got in the way and they went their separate ways. Years later Connor finds himself trapped in a snow storm after rear ending another vehicle. Who happens to be none other than Zach… Will being trapped in house together rekindle their love or drive them further apart??
This was just the sweetest story! I absolutely loved it! It gave me all the feels and the spice was off the charts! 🥵 This was my first Ryan and Josh book and I can tell I have been missing out because this one was so good! If you’re looking for a feel good, holiday, spicy romance look no further! I highly recommend!
This was a very cute book and I loved the idea behind it. These 2 guys loved each other in college and life happened and they drifted apart but still loved each other.....totally on board for this. They started off so good with communication but their true downfall was their lack of communication. They never lost their sexual chemistry but the whole book felt like it was based on them not telling their whole truths.
For me the part I struggled with was how quickly Connor chose to believe someone else's word over Zach's. It felt a little too far fetched for me. To convenient a hiccup in the relationship.
The fun these 2 had falling back in love was solid hallmark Christmas and my favorite part was the blown glass due to nostalgia and it being something my wife and I did while in a Vermont for our wedding!
Zack and Conner really went through it after we last saw them. It seems fate had other plans when a car accident in a huge storm slams them back together. What comes next is a journey of healing and fixing what was never meant to be broken.
Small confession... didn't even realize this was the same couple from Swimming Against the Tide until the author note.
Joshua Harwood and Ryan Taylor know how to write a wonderful whimsical warm holiday romance. From the beginning of this story you know you’re in for a treat. We have met Zach and Connor before but now 4 years after their not break up we find them meeting up after a minor accident and what follows is a realisation by both characters that they are meant to be. I have devoured this in a day. I would give it more stars if I could. Thank you both for yet another fantastic story.
This is an awesome book. I enjoyed the characters, and the story. The authors ability to describe the snow, as well as all the different places they went, was beyond amazing. I could imagine being there with them.
Steamy, emotional, hot and brilliant festive page turner. The story kept me enthralled in the story, I felt for the characters and I enjoyed watching everything play out. Even when I wanted to shake a certain character... This is my first book by Taylor and Harwood but it won't be my last, fast paced walking to add their back catalogue to the TBR mountain... Definitely a heart warming tale for the festive season, one I will probably return to every year.
Absolutely amazing and it was definitely not what I expected. It was way better. I absolutely love Connor and Zach. This story was the perfect holiday romance and gives you all the feels. The emotional rollercoaster, the love, support and the spice were all on par with each other and it makes the perfect read. Amazing job Ryan and Josh ❤️
I flip-flopped on this book a few times. The premise of this book was very fun, and while I don't normally go for a second chance romance, this one intrigued me. This story started off strong, and I was fully invested and very curious as to what direction the authors would take this. Zach and Connor were very cute and sweet characters, and you could feel the love and pent-up emotions they held for each other, which was very heartwarming. It was sweet to see them reconnecting after 4 years apart.
I think while this book had strong points, there were a few things that lost me at times throughout the book. I feel like a little bit more relationship development in the present would have strengthened the story all the more--though what was there was very sweet. I think I had a hard time with some of the dialogue as well. At times, it just didn't quite flow for me, and it took me out of the book. I also struggled with Connor pushing off issues every single time something happened. Communication is sexy! I love good communication in a romance novel, and this one struggled a bit for my liking. Then there was the issue that happened towards the end of the book (iykyk).... that one drove me a bit bonkers and had me wanting to shake Connor a vast amount! I struggled with that element until it was resolved, and the way it was resolved did bring a bit of redemption. I can't say this was my favorite book I've ever read, but I definitely enjoyed elements from this story!
What book wouldn't be complete without some drama and creating that tension and struggle within the reader themselves? 😂 This was a fun and quick little read that is perfect for people who don't mind a bit of drama and a sweet second chance romance.
This was an Arc from Foreword PR. Thank you for the read!
Christmas for Keeps, written by Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood, is a second chance MM holiday romance. There's also a touch of forced proximity.
Connor is on the way to his holiday vacation when everything blows up in his face. He's driving in a storm, his best friend cancels on him, and he gets in an accident. Turns out the person he hits is his ex, Zach, who he still had serious feelings for. And to top it all off, he lost his reservation at the ski resort. Zach offers up a place for him to stay for the week. He's not convinced it's the best idea. Con feels a lot of guilt and pain over their past. Can past hurts heal?
Zach is more than surprised to see Connor again. He's happy to see him and finally talk about everything that happened between them. He's so hopeful they can reconcile and enjoy their Christmas holiday together. But can he get past their past?
This is a book of second chances. Seeing these men grow and communicate was beautiful. The four years they were separated changed them in some of the best ways. They're more mature and more ready for an adult relationship.
Connor and Zach have an incredibly deep connection that gaps time and place. They're so sweet to and for each other. There is also quite a bit of steam in this book and it is super hot! I think their overall chemistry is some of the strongest I've seen this holiday season so far.
I would absolutely recommend this holiday love story. It's got just the right amount of angst and heat to keep most any reader intrigued.

You really need to have read swimming against the tide, which is the prelude to this book. You will then understand the depth of Zach and Connor's love for one another. This book tells us that the HEA of Swimming against the tide to end, didn't happen. It is almost like a new story, the characters have grown up and had grown apart and we take it feom there. Zach is a likeable character, willing to help anyone and this is seen straight away when he helps Connor. He is a problem solver and this is why he struggled when Connor pushed him away because he couldn't do his caretaking. I really tried to like Connor, when he was with Zach he was definitely more likeable but his moods were quite variable. I get he suffers with depression, but this seemed to be his character rather than the mental health aspect. It seemed quite a safe book, everything working out easily until it was rocked and the reaction from Connor was a bit unexpected, he really became a different person. The way he treated Zach when he made accusations seemed to come from nowhere and I applaud Zach for forgiving so easily. This is a relatively short book and takes place over a week until the final chapters jump us ahead several months, which does give us the HEA. These husband authors are great at sweet love stories so if you like lots of love declarations then you will enjoy this book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Christmas For Keeps is about Conner and Zach crashing into each other, (literally) after not seeing one another since they stopped talking. Both men made mistakes back then, and as much as they would like to fix it they just don't know how.
Conner is on his way to the ski resort he booked for the week when he end up hitting the car in front of him, the driver turns out to be his lost love Zach. Aka, his ex.
What he thought would be an awkward and tension filled car ride, actually turned out to be what both men really needed.
I thought this book started off really well, there was a lot of snark which I could appreciate, and I liked the concept of past lovers rekindling their flame. I thought the background was really great and well written. I will say that this definitely seemed to be more focused on the steamy moments between the two men, as opposed to having romantic moments. Which isn't a bad thing, I just wish there was more than steam.
I did appreciate how they didn't jump into bed right away, they took the time to talk to each other first about what had happened to them that caused them to stop communicating with each other. I liked that they took the time to talk, as it was important to talk about what happened.
Overall I thought this was a good way to do a snowed in trope, and the way that these two were able to rekindle what they had lost was done really well.
I love both of these authors, so I found this book sweet and cute and all the feels. With lots of smexy times etc. And the story had loads in it. An up day on where Zach and Connor were after fours ago when they had been dating in the previous books Swimming against the tide. They are meeting again after breaking up due to the death of connors father… What I like about the authors is the feeling you always could be reading about someone you know or know of. Real life at its finest. What I didn’t like was Connor this time, I felt he really had some issues and that they were never really gotten too. There was always the we will talk.. and when they finally did, it wasn’t . Yes there was the we need to communicate better but not, you need to deal with past trauma. I understand it that this is not the main point of the book. But I felt it needed to be addressed or focused on better due to the reactions Connor had, felt like PTSD or depression…
So how did I feel at the end, yes a nice feeling book, but there seemed to be and angst that wasn’t strong or lacked something?. The books are always well written, and delightful scenes and people. But like the previous one, it lacks that grit the authors are known for. The deepness didn’t seem to be coming through.
Still yes a fun read. And I will still one click all their books to read, as this doesn’t deter me.
