World traveler, professional athlete, business owner, stand up comedian, lyricist, drummer, father and dog lover. My life experiences are what my writing is about, observations of life, people and the human condition are what I find fascinating. Mature, interesting writing full of perspectives and symbolic meanings reflecting the life I have led.
I really wanted to like this book...for me as a slow reader, it was hard for me to get through. Only because he is a very detailed writer. So much so that I forget what I'm reading about. That also makes the thriller part a slow burn in my experience. I wouldn't have finished it if I didn't win a giveaway of the ARC.
mysteries, intrigue, and the allure of the United States
Review: "Snowfall in Virginia" is an absolute page-turner that held me captive from start to finish. This being the second book in the series, I couldn't resist delving into Chris Hamilton's captivating storytelling and vivid descriptions once again. The book masterfully paints a picture of the Virginia landscape, making it come to life even for those who've never witnessed snowfall, and immersing readers in the lives of compelling characters.
The story weaves an intricate tapestry of unexpected twists and turns, unearthing age-old secrets, hidden treasures, and a web of complex relationships. It delves into themes of death, karma, betrayal, and much more. Despite the protagonist's enigmatic past, he becomes a favorite character, a testament to the author's skill in character development.
Jim Davidson's narrative finesse shines in this book, and it cements his status as a modern storytelling maestro. The suspense and tension escalate to a riveting climax that leaves readers breathless. The narrative creates a sense of the Virginia landscape as a character in its own right, adding depth and haunting beauty to the tale.
If you enjoy mysteries, intrigue, and the allure of the United States, "Snowfall in Virginia" is a must-read. Chris Hamilton's storytelling is truly enchanting, and I eagerly anticipate any future works from this author. These stories are a testament to the power of a well-crafted narrative to transport readers into a world of mystery and wonder.
Davidson's remarkable talent shines through in his ability to transport readers into the heart of the story's setting, whether it's trudging through snow-covered landscapes or enjoying a quiet coffee in a hidden Virginia café. "Snowfall in Virginia" serves as a prime example of his expertise in constructing a captivating storyline that truly captures the reader's imagination. The characters in the book are painstakingly well-developed, each possessing unique personalities and motivations that spring to life within the pages. This rich character development fosters a deep sense of connection, making it effortless to become emotionally invested in their journeys. It's this level of authenticity that elevates the overall narrative and ensures an even more immersive reading experience. In summary, "Snowfall in Virginia" stands as a testament to Davidson's storytelling prowess, skillfully whisking readers away to picturesque settings while introducing them to a cast of characters worth accompanying on their journeys. It underscores the incredible power of well-crafted storytelling. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone seeking a read of this nature and looking to expand their reading genres.
For the most, I enjoyed the story, but the dialogue bothered me throughout. It’s not the way people talk. Sophia never called Garcia “Dad,” before in either book, and suddenly it gets thrown in. Inconsistent. It wrapped up really fast in the last 10-20% of the book. It reads like at least two people wrote it, and they have different ideas how people talk. As an editor, writer, and book designer, the mishmash of curly quotes vs. straight and typos was very distracting. Could have been better.
A Very Wintry Mystery Thriller The book, "Snowfall in Virginia", which is Book 2 of the Chris Hamilton series by Jim Davidson, initially presents a perfect life of success in the professional and personal aspects. These meant having his own business, own home, a girlfriend, Sophia, and a daughter. The story is set in Virginia and centers on C. Hamilton's past, which he thought he had also successfully tucked away, only to realize that it was fast catching up with him. The story has a good plot for uncovering secrets, action and adventure, death and karma, treasure and money, interesting characters, and a haunting past to present accountability. It's a perfect soup of chaos. The novel is an easy read with 23 chapters and only around 260 pages. It could have done better if the chapters had intriguing titles that matched each sub-story to build up the perfect storm that the author was aiming at. The chapters are also un-clickable, which means turning the pages if one wants to go back or jump to a chapter. The novel is nevertheless unique when the mysteries unfold only during snowfall in Virginia. Hence, the title. The scenes are carefully written and bring a reader into a moment and a snowy landscape. And because I'm a coffee lover, and I love absorbing the aroma and sipping the brew mindfully, the cafe settings are my favorites. Each character's story is intriguingly independent of the other's life, yet interwoven into the complexity of C. Hamilton's life and past. The author, having taken up various interests himself in real life, succeeded in creating authenticity in each character, but also could've developed each in a mysteriously deeper sense. The chapters I liked most are 2, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17 and 21. As autumn is taking its place in season now, this captivating wintry drama is good company. Whilst one may view a snowy landscape as plain and boring, the author succeeds as well, in creating the picturesque landscape through the talent and skill of storytelling. That shouldn't be a surprise, as the author had lived in Virginia, and readers can experience a satisfyingly good immersion in each setting.

Davidson delivers a story that is a little bit mystery and a little bit thriller, just in time for the holiday season. The main character, Chris Hamilton, finds himself in multiple tricky situations, where the idea of a normal, content life seems to be unraveling. To make matters worse, he is continually trying to determine who he can and cannot trust...everyone is not always as they seem. Davidson definitely plants many seeds of doubt to keep you guessing. While there is some "meat" to this story in the form of an interesting idea, I struggled with the flow of the book and the style of writing. It felt disconnected at times...jumping around and not always having enough background to connect parts of the story. I felt like certain characters could have used more development, so that as a reader, you can really immerse yourself and try to solve the mystery too. After all, that's the beauty of a great mystery! (rounding up to a 3)

Let’s dive in again into the world of Chris Hamilton, this time in Virginia. We’d witnessed what happened in Texas, deaths and hidden treasure. Does it ends there?
It’s not. The secrets came back to haunt Chris and mystery continues in Virginia, started with someone giving haikus. Yes, a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables. Fascinating, right? The tension has kept me on my chair and did finish book in one sitting. I keep wondering about who the main culprit is. Kudos to the author for keeping me guess and unsure until the end.
