The realm was in danger of being invaded by the Tsoros, evil creatures that wanted to eliminate the human species. The war was an uphill battle, and humans were looking for more talented individuals to send to the battlefield.
All of a sudden, Royse Williams was on her way to the Rider’s School, a place so different from her quiet farming town. With only her bare talents to support her, Royse felt different from the hundreds of trained men and women who were expected to be humanity’s first and last line of defense.
Then there were the dragons, majestic creatures that Royse only dreamed about meeting her whole life. Would Royse be able to help the riders fight the Tsoros or will she cower and flee from the great danger that was the war?
A great book, I couldn’t put the book down and definitely stayed up later than I planned to finish on chapter which turned into 3. 10/10 would recommend.
----- ----- This novel follows the story of young Royse, who suddenly leaves her village and country life behind to join the dragon rider school. I liked the story and the world building. The protagonist, a teenager, was quite well constructed, with expected reactions at her age. The same as the other characters.
I would have liked it to go into more depth about the war, to see some battles and get to know a little more, or first-hand, about their enemies, the Tsoros. I feel that this book was very introductory to a world and story with good potential, but we will have to wait and read the next ones
I really wanted to love this book, I love reading anything with dragons. Unfortunately, I was a bit underwhelmed by the characters and their backgrounds. It started really well for me and I was pulled in, but once she was at the school it became hard to follow and then started to drag on. The actual war that is talked about doesn't feel real or at least not a part of the plot, maybe in the next book?
Dragon Riders series book one was pretty cool as far as a beginning of a series. I think the characters should have been fleshed out a bit more as well as their background. I sure hope this author continues the series. She left it at a point where we don't know what happens to our main character or her friends.
