I bought this book probably 2 years ago and now I have the chance to read it. Dr Faryad's "A Reference Guide to Character Development" touched me lately so I decided to read it. After such a long gap when I went back and picked this book up, I observed that I now had a changed view regarding Dr Faryad's work. She has done an amazing job of bridging the gap between the Quranic and the psychological world. She actively identifies emotions and categorises them. But it needs more in-depth data-driven research to support its claims, especially where she gives Quranic and Sunnah references and links things up. The explanation that is given while linking isn't very satisfying. But still, it is worth the time.

Overall I thought this was a pretty good book. It is written by a psychologist, but there isn't a ton of jargon in it to make it hard to read. I felt in many places like she was speaking directly to me. Insha Allah I'll be able to use some of the practical advice given in this book to work on my emotional issues.
