Wild Hearts #4

Her Wild Coast Rescue

Rate this book
A free-spirited adventurer. A broken hero. The secrets that will tear them apart.

As a rescue EMT for central Alaska’s big mountain playground, I understand risk. But when my brothers demand help resolving the tragedy that tore our family apart, I respectfully decline. I’ve made my peace with the past, or as close to peace as I’ll ever get.

When I help a pretty stranger fix her busted wheel and she rewards me with dinner, assessing risk takes on a whole new meaning. Not only because Sarah Thelen’s pretty smile knocks me flat and her soft curves beg for my undivided attention, being with her means offering up what’s left of my tattered heart. And that’s another risk I won’t take.

One kiss ignites the flames simmering between us, and suddenly I’m abandoning all the rules. But when a mysterious piece of my family’s past is revealed, putting Sarah in danger, I’m forced to choose between saving her, and protecting my heart.

Don’t miss the next installment of the thrilling Wild Hearts romantic suspense series in Her Wild Coast Rescue.

UPDATED 10/2023:

The Plot Thickens

Dakota Davies Wild Hearts bk 04 Her Wild Coast Rescue

This has been upgraded to all of the stars!

Cooper McCabe and Sarah Thelen have stepped things up, and I love it! New elements have been added to the overarching storylines in the series, including the near drowning of a young girl, Terrilynn "Magnolia" Silva, that carry forward into the next couple of books.

When it comes to the heat between Sarah and Cooper, it's soooooo good. I love how they balance and push each other. They each have triggers due to past events, but that doesn't stop their hearts and souls from entwining. 💙🔥💜

I also love the twists and winding curves. I really like where their story goes.

This really should be read in series order. As mentioned, there are continuing storylines which go back to book one. Plus, each book includes a lot of the same characters, which are built upon.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Gregory Salinas and Kelli Lindsay in dual narration. I always enjoy these two! They are good choices for Cooper and Sarah.

Please note that if you read this prior to summer 2023, it's been COMPLETELY rewritten with very little making it from the earlier versions. You owe it to yourself to read the newest version. Also, there's a crossover with the Entwined Hearts trilogy, with this taking place first, which I really like.

Healing New and Old Wounds

NOTE: The following is for the August / September 2020 updated release to this book.

Tim "Cooper" Cooper and Sarah Hanson find themselves drawn to one another after Cooper helps rescue her and her badly injured brother, Matt. Life has thrown them some curve balls. Sarah has worked hard to move forward while Cooper is stuck with the pain of his past.

As things become deliciously heated between them, feelings start to develop.

My favorite passage:

“Practice does make perfect,” I manage, though I’m quickly losing the ability to speak because of how good he’s making me feel.

“That’s right, angel,” he says into my ear. “And I’m a very slow learner.”
...aaaaahhhhhhh.... Baby needs lots o' practice.

I had the pleasure of listening as I followed along with the book. I enjoyed the narrators, Robert Hatchet and Kelli Lindsay.

Story: 4 stars
Narration: 4 stars

UPDATED 4/2021:
I gave this another listen as part of a boxed set for the first three books in the series. I can readily confirm that I still like the book and narrators. 😘
🔥🎉💔🕛❄💚🌟

UPDATED 8/2022:
4 stars - Dakota Davies has updated this again. This time, the changes are mostly to tie it to the prior books in the series with a murder mystery.

Don't worry. Cooper and Sarah are just as smoking and adventurous as before. It's one of the many things I love about this book.

Nobody knows about the way I touch myself when I’m alone. For sure, nobody has ever asked me to demonstrate.
-- Sarah

My heart breaks for the hurdles that life has thrown in their paths. They've each dealt with loss of loved ones. I like that they have different reactions to similar tragedies.

I really like the inclusion of the new storyline and can't wait to see where it takes us next!

~AUDIOBOOK REVIEW~
Narration: 9/10⭐
(Dual Narrative, Read by Robert Hatchet & Kelli Lindsay.)
Length: 3:48 hours
Steam Level: HOT!

~STORY REVIEW~
A Fast-paced story with Heart-gripping Scenes, Moving on, Letting grief go and Loving with all the heart❤. I Loved Sarah & Cooper!

Sarah is a Nursing student while Cooper is a Mountain Rescuer Medic. Both have experienced loss in their Pasts which has hardened them.

The two met when He rescues her & her bro-Matt. Matt's badly injured in their Climb..It may take months before he'll fully recover. It was a very difficult time for Sarah..

Since Coop Rescued them, He wasn't able to stop thinking about Matt's recovery..And Sarah. His heart noticed her when it'd sat vacant since His brother's death.
So Cooper & Sarah form a Sweet Friendship.. Dinner, Trails, Fun together, Climbing..The Spark was evident and Soon they gave in to the need.

It was meant to be a fling.. She'd go when Matt is ok to move..But tell that to their Hearts. Soon Feelings come into play. Ending this now would be better, ya? WRONG.

As Matt recovers, Sarah & Cooper stay away from eachother..It hurts so much (As seen in his One visit).
Is letting the Guilt win Right? Is letting the best thing that happened to him go worth it?

The next weeks are Hard for the two. Then Coop gets his answers On a very Dangerous Rescue..A Great Advice + Heart-aching Scenes.
Love's worth the fight, He was a fool to let Sarah go..Will She give him a 2nd Chance?
Gladly She did!!

Sweet Scenes Ahead❤. The two are obviously busy, him with rescues (& Learning his passion-Pilot!), Her With Matt's Recovery & Med School. But Sarah+Cooper make it work *Yay!*.

The Epilogue was Cute + The ending Gorgeous!
P.s. This was my 1st in this series, I'm excited to read the others!

Her Wild Coast Rescue is now the fourth of Dakota's Wild Hearts stories. Immediate attraction between protagonists Sarah and Cooper when he rescues her after she suffers a flat tire. She is new to town, but when she says she lives some distance, he thinks he can hook up with her and not see her again. He's wrong, and then worries about the impact of encountering her regularly, until he realises that's what he wants to do. A second story to the romance involves a young - unidentified - woman who they both save after an accident. Or was it attempted murder? The thriller aspect is taut and frightening (DD writes thrillers under her other name), and seems it may be linked to an ongoing mystery. Excellent. Highly recommended.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the third book in the Storm Harbor series. In this book, Sarah and her brother Matt were hiking when Matt fell and suffered a head injury. Cooper was the Mountain Rescue Technician and helped rescue Matt. Sarah was so grateful that they reached the hospital, she hugged Cooper. Cooper never followed up on any of his patients, but there was something about Sarah that called to him. When Cooper found some of Sarah's belongings, he took them back to her at the hospital and managed to talk her into leaving Matt for a break. Sarah was looking for a place to stay when Cooper found her and took her back to his house. Sarah and Cooper had an amazing connection, but Cooper told her he only wanted it to be casual. When Sarah left, Cooper had a hard time forgetting her and didn't know how to handle his feelings. Cooper thought he was damaged and unable to love, but he felt something for Sarah and when she came to his house, he wanted to be with her. Sarah felt drawn to Cooper, but she wondered if she should be with Matt. I really liked this story. I felt for Cooper and his hurting. I think Sarah helped Cooper heal and realize he could love. Sarah was so strong and sure of her feelings for Cooper. I loved them together and think they had amazing chemistry. Another good one from Dakota.

Odd Blend of Steamy Romance and Medical Drama

I was attracted to this book at my favorite book review site because the medical angle of it intrigued me. I am an RN, and I am definitely drawn to medical fiction, whether it's thrillers, romance, or mystery. I found it intriguing, too, that the heroine was a nursing student. Having been one myself, I was curious to see how that would play into it. (It didn’t really, other than her saying some completely wrong things!)

Unfortunately, I find myself disappointed in this book. It seems a very odd combination of steamy-to-the-level-of-crude romance (and I'm not a fan of crude terms in a love story) and heart-warming family medical drama. The parts about the heroine’s brother, grappling with the results of a climbing accident and traumatic brain injury, were gripping emotionally. The parts about the romance—not so much. It just didn't work for me on several levels. In general, I am not a fan of insta lust stories, and I found it to be jarring in the context of the plot about the brother’s injuries. So this book just didn't quite work for me.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Quick read

This is a quick read with some steamy scenes. The story is interesting.
There are parts where I think the author got too descriptive it was unnecessary. The story could have expanded more on the recovery of heroines brother and how the relationship with the hero progressed.
I had a hard time with the many grammatical and spelling errors. There were parts where the story didn't flow well.
Overall it was an ok read.

This was a good read. Sarah is on vacation with her brother. They are climbing and her brother has an accident. Cooper is the medic that helps rescue him. Things are going to be rough but Sarah spends lots of time with Cooper. It was supposed to be just a short fling. Of course we know that they always end up more and that's exactly what happens.

Her Wild Coast Rescue
Wild Hearts #4
By Dakota Davies
Narrated by Gregory Salinas, Kelli Lindsay

Dakota Davies is one of the reasons Alaska is on my bucket list. Not only does she provide a phenomenal story, but the imagery is so beautiful, I want to go see it! This is the fourth book in her Wild Hearts series and it features Cooper and Sarah. These two are meant for each other. Both still hurting from past relationships, they have no intention of getting together. But while Sarah's brother Matt is recuperating from his climb, Sarah and Cooper begin spending time together. And as they do, feelings begin to form. But the loss of Cooper's brother and parents lingers in heart and Sarah know's loss too, so they agree it's only until she leaves for nursing school. But will it really? With the heart involved, it's hard to let go. Plus the investigation of the death of Cooper's brother and parents is still being investigated by his brothers. Will they find an answer? Unexpected twists and turns keep the story building! It can't wait for the next one. The perfect mix of romance and suspense and I am a happy camper!

To make this even better is the narration team of Gregory Salinas and Kelli Lindsay! These two are perfectly cast and create that push pull feeling between Sarah and Cooper. Salinas has a smooth voice with a sound that is easy to fall for. He adds in all the emotions Cooper is going through and makes him real. Lindsay is fantastic as Sarah. She is a tough cookie dealing with her past, and Lindsay picks up a little hardness, a little vulnerability and a melting wall around her heart. This team brought the story alive.

This is the fourth installment of this series but can be read as a standalone. This book is interconnected with the rest of the books in this series. The characters get their HEA, but there is a mystery in the plot with a new clue in each book.

I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook version of this story. The narrators, Gregory Salinas and Kelli Lindsay, did an amazing job of bringing this story to life. They portrayed the main characters and side characters in a way that really made me feel like I was experiencing the story. I would definitely listen to more books they have/will have.

I loved that both Sarah and Cooper couldn’t deny their chemistry from the start, even if they both planned for it to be just one night. I loved that they both had a passion and drive to help people and made careers out of their passion. It was interesting to see Sarah’s past, it definitely wasn’t something I expected. Although, that particular experience, isn’t really talked about and what the effects on people are because of it. It was great to see her overcome all that she had been through.

I have enjoyed all four books in this series so far and I’m excited to read and listen to more. I’m really excited to see this mystery unfold and what comes of it.

I received an advanced readers/listeners copy. These thoughts and opinions are my own and left voluntarily after reading/listening for my own personal enjoyment.

Sarah Thelen moves to the McKenzie River/Storm Harbor area of AK. She is a social worker for McKenzie Medical. She’s looking for a fresh start after an incident leaves her shoulder damaged, and her boyfriend of 5 years leaves her because of it. She meets Cooper McCabe while stranded in the side of the road with a flat tire. He works for McKenzie Mountain Rescue and is happy to help her fix the flat. He figures she is just passing through the area, and she figures she’ll never see him again, so they spend the night together. However, they are both wrong… After an awkward start, they both decide to see where this can go.

There’s a larger mystery that is an overarching theme through this series, with each book/audiobook getting readers a little closer to the truth. Something terrible happened 16 years earlier, and the siblings and their friends are getting closer to the truth. Little snippets are doled out in each story and they are all interconnected, although readers aren’t totally sure how yet. This particular audiobook is filled with heart and compassion and a few tears. Sarah learns how strong she really is, and Cooper learns how to trust again. This is a tough, yet beautiful journey for listeners with a very happy ending.

The narrators for this audiobook are excellent! They bring the story to life and their skill brought tears to my eyes a few times. There are some awkward scenes, some funny scenes, and some heartbreaking scenes, and these narrators do them all very well.

Wild Coast Rescue by Dakota Davies is the third book in the Wild Hearts series. It is a standalone in a series, told in first person pov.
Robert Hatchet and Kelli Linsday take the dual narration on their behalf.

Wild Coast Rescue is a small town/medical/insta-lust romance with all the feels, lots of sweetness, and some steam. It's a beautiful story of letting go, growing, and living to the fullest. The story is fast-paced and constantly evolving, I really liked this.

Wild Coast Rescue isn't a long audiobook, only 3 hours and 48 minutes. Both narrators are new to me and didn't disappoint. They were able to pull me into the story and make it feel realistic.
Robert Hatchet has a low, deep voice, while Kelli Lindsay's voice is soft, but you can hear a slight rasp in it if you listen carefully.
Some transitions from one chapter to another happened too fast, which made it sound a little strange at times;

I love a story with a couple of life lessons build-in. Wild Coast Rescue was a story like that, it tells us to enjoy life and follow our hearts because it can be over before we know it.
The audiobook is well narrated and perfect for people who need something quick to listen to but still have all the feels and steam.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:

Her Wild Coast Rescue is book #4 in the Wild Heart series. With each book, I keep saying "This is my favorite" and sure enough, this one did it again! Sarah and Cooper are FIRE together! Cooper is Mr. No-Commitment and devoted to his job with McKenzie Mountain Rescue. When he runs across Sarah on the side of the road, they end up spending a STEAMY night together. Thinking they will never see each other again, they part without sharing names/numbers. Sarah has started a new job at the hospital and on her first day runs right into Cooper during a rescue drop. The two try to deny their chemistry, but soon sparks are flying and the draw is too strong to ignore. The continuing mystery of the McCabe parents/brother's death along with suspense and intrigue involving Sarah keep this story exciting and riveting to the very end.

The narration was fantastic! Gregory Salinas is one of my favorite narrators and did an excellent job bringing Cooper's character to life. Kelli Lindsay is a new narrator to me, but she is definitely on my watch list. She brought Sarah's strength as well as her vulnerabilities to life! 5 stars for this fabulous duo!

Her Wild Coast Rescue, and Audiobook by Dakota Davies, is the story of Sarah and Cooper. Sarah is in the nursing program at university. She has a vehicle issue and is aided by Cooper. Sarah becomes invested in a young Jane Doe, given the moniker of Magnolia. She is badly injured and Sarah is determined to find her loved ones. In the meantime, Sarah and Cooper hit it off in a MAJOR way.

This Audiobook was fantastically narrated by Gregory Salinas and Kelli Lindsay. They brought this story to life!!!! Loved their spot-on interpretations of the characters and their abilities to express all of the emotions and depth of feelings throughout the story!!! Excellent!!!

I was thoroughly enmeshed in this mesmerizing story!!! It is touching, full of passion and heat, and heartbreaking all at the same time!! Dakota Davies writing skills are phenomenal!!!! She brings life to these characters and makes you empathize with all of them. You want SOOOOOOO badly for these two individuals to have a lasting, loving relationship….and yet you know the odds are against them. I LOVED this story!!!!!

I had the privilege to listen to this on audio. Performed by Kelli Lindsay and Gregory Salinas. Both of these voices really brought out the best of the characters and made them alive.
I am absolutely obsessed with this series..
This one is about Cooper, one of the brothers. He meets Sarah where she has broken down and new to town. So he helps her. Then from there they have sparkling connection.
They have a one night stand only.
A lot happens and poor Sarah finds herself in a middle of something big.
These two somehow always manage to bump into each other and their casual fling is becoming more.
So much suspense, action, drama, twists, pain, kidnapping, emotion, backstabbing, love and spice.
I really liked this one. As always the background story is still running and I have feeling these bad guys are probably connected. We also saw Anya and she is from another book. I like how Dakota describes the surrounding that brings it all to life and you can see where these characters are.
Can't wait for next book and to find more clues. Highly recommend this series. You won't be disappointed.

Sarah and her brother Matt are mountain climbing when tragedy strikes and Matt takes a terrible fall and have to be rescued by helicopter which is where they meet Cooper who is part of the flight team. Cooper lost a brother and has shut himself of to love because of that and has put himself into his work and shut himself off from living. When he meets Sarah there is something about her that makes him decide to go back to the hospital and take her the things she left behind. When they share the night together Cooper tells her that he only wants it to be a casual thing between them. When she leaves, he still can’t get her off his mind.
This is a great story of learning to let yourself love and be loved after tragedy. The chemistry between Cooper and Sarah was smoking hot.
The audio version is well worth the time and credit. Robert Hatchet and Kelli Lindsay are new narrators to me and I will say they did an outstanding job with this book. They really know how to bring out the emotions when needed. 😊 I was given a copy of the audio version and I am gladly leaving and honest review

Action, Adventure and Romance!!

Whew, this has all those things you wish every story did! Sara is working as a social worker in a hospital. She has moved after an injury which ended her climbing efforts, and a messy breakup. Cooper McCabe is a member of the rescue team. They run into each other at the hospital.

Sara sees a girl in the river (it is winter, and freezing cold - just to set the scene). Her shoulder injury makes it hard to pull her out. Cooper comes by and assists with the rescue. The girl is now comatose in the hospital.

So much around this. Add in relationships, the past, the mystery, increasing danger, and a roller coaster ride of events, what do I want to be when I grow up, all packaged in a well-written entertaining read.

I listened to the audio, and it greatly enhanced the enjoyment of the story.

***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****

AUDIO REVIEW

I thoroughly enjoyed this and it's definitely up there in my favourites from this series. Cooper and Sarah were so perfect for each other and the wider story was really interesting and intriguing. I am definitely keen to see how everything ties in fully as the series continues/concludes and I so hope the pay off is good when we finally get there! Once again it reached a certain point when I wasn't able to stop listening and was hoping my car journey wouldn't end too soon so I could keep going!

I also really enjoyed the narrators. I like that we get to experience different narrators in this series and they really give life to the characters on the page and make you feel like you're right there in it. Heightens the emotions for sure and keeps you invested in the story. Looking forward to the next one!

I absolutely love seeing characters from book to book, and in this one we get to see Anya from another series! I couldn't quit grinning. Dakota Davies writes well with excellent storylines and likable characters. I was quickly drawn into the romance as well as the suspense of who the young lady was that Cooper and Sarah rescued. We get a bit of the series overall mystery as well. This was heartwarming and heartbreaking all rolled together. A beautiful HEA.

Gregory Salinas is a favorite narrator of mine. I love his voice and his laugh! Kelli Lindsay is quickly becoming a favorite. Both have smooth, easy to listen to voices. They perform with so much emotion that the audiobook rolls like a movie in my head. Perfection.

Love the emotion, love and adventure in this book.
Standalone with no cliffhangers.
2 people broken by tragedy find each other but can they stay together?
Sarah has suffered greatly and now may lose her brother too, then she would be all alone.
Cooper will never get past his brothers death, so he will never put himself in the position to love again.
Then he rescues her and her brother from a mountain, it's just a start.
Love how Dakota builds her stories with such great detail and knowledge, you feel like your on the mountain and in a valley of flowers.
I listened to this as an Audiobook.

I loved Sarah and Cooper’s story.
Starting her life afresh and newly arriving into town Sarah keeps bumping into Cooper.
Their chemistry is off the charts and neither can deny the pull they have to each other no matter how much they fight it.
Together they rescue a young girl who is fighting for her life and that is when the trouble starts.
There was plenty of mystery and danger along with the underlying story in the series getting closer to its climax.
With great characters and storyline, this at times steamy story did not disappoint.
I listened to the audiobook narration which I also enjoyed.

I loved the dual narration of Kelli Lindsay and Gregory Salinas

Sarah and her brother Matt were hiking . Matt falls and injuries his head. Cooper is part of the Mountain Rescue Technician and helps rescue Matt. Sarah gives Cooper a hug as a thank you. He rescues Sarah after she gets a flat tire, where he takes her back to his house. Even though Sarah and Cooper have a amazing connection. Cooper says he only wans casual but as soon she leaves he can not help but remember the curvy gorgeous woman. With so much baggage can Cooper realise what he could lose.
An amazing story of angst, romance, heat and action all the way.

Book 3 in Wild Hearts has mountain rescue medic Tim Cooper coming to the rescue of Sarah Hanson and her brother following a fall whilst climbing. Sexy times and drama as they both try to deny the chemistry sizzling between them. As with the previous two books it’s a cheesy, insta lust erotica, so if that’s what you want, it’s possibly for you. A quick easy audio, this time narrated by Robert Hatchett and Kelli Lindsay, I definitely preferred dual narration with the dual POV, it worked much better for me.

Her Wild Coast Rescue is the third book in Dakota Davies’ Wild Heart series. In this contemporary romance, readers witness the romantic journey of Sarah Hanson and Cooper McCabe. . I appreciate Ms. Davies’ skill with her character-development plot line. Her lead characters suffer from emotional distress connected to guilt. Cooper suffers from survivor’s guilt because he lived the train accident while his younger brother, Reid, did not. Sarah’s guilt is since her brother is seriously injured in a climbing accident and her attention should be on him. Despite this emotional struggle each is attracted to the other. I like that Ms. Davies enhanced this romantic plot with a bit of suspense as the McCabe brothers (Hunter, Cooper, and Evan try to figure out the truth to their parents’ death. Ms. Davies does a remarkable job with literary devices like dialog, dual POV, and descriptive language that subsequently pull her readers into this story. I am looking forward to completing this series

* audio book* This series just keeps improving. I love that the story focuses on Sarah and Cooper while continuing the discovery of what happened to Coopers family.
Sarah is a very strong and independent social worker that is trying to start over in a new town. Cooper, a rescue EMT, finds himself drawn to Sarah. When the two meet things immediately start to heat up. When they rescue an unconscious female; unknowingly becoming targets of an unknown hunter they have to figure out what they are to eachother while working to survive.

I got this book from stuff your earbuds 2024, This was the 4th book in the series but was certainly able to be read alone. The terminology for Tim the Medic was believable which is sometimes hard to come by in a novella, I appreciate the author doing their research. A yearning soft FMC is always kinda hard for me to get into and thus where my rating came from. I wanted more from Sarah.

Gregory Salinas Narrating also set this over the edge, I hadn't seen he was on this production until I turned it on and he kept me hooked!

I received a free ARC of this novel via Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review. My opinion is my own.

Ms Davies is a new author to me and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for her work. Most girls like a knight in shining armor and Cooper totally fits that bill in a ruggedly handsome kind of way. He rescues Sarah's brother after a rock climbing accident. The plot is good and the characters have nice depth. I will definitely check out more by this author.
