⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This second book in the Middle Age is Murder Cozy Mystery series by Nellie H. Steele and it did not disappoint. In this story, we find the FMC, Ellie, getting ready for the grand opening of her new bed and breakfast. There are some townspeople who do not want Ellie to open the B&B, some saying that the old house is cursed and even a tale of hidden treasure. Ellie is not discouraged and decides to proceed with the opening, including the process of organizing a fun murder mystery weekend for her B&B guests to help ensure the grand opening is a success. Just prior to the opening, Ellie is surprised when her ex-husband unexpectedly shows up with a sad story and needs her help. How could she refuse? As the guests begin to arrive, we are introduced to various couples, each with their own agenda. With the help of her friend Mia, Ellie settles her guest into their B&B rooms and gets set for the murder mystery night, a night full of fun, intrigue, and trying to solve the murder mystery, which is being staged at Val's town diner. All seems to be going well until one of the guests is found actually murdered, a knife from the diner sticking out of his chest. All the evidence points to Ellie’s ex-husband as the most likely suspect. Ellie is determined to find the truth, with the help of her friends Mia and Jake, and her canine and feline companions, Lola and Cleo, the search for the killer(s) begins.
I devoured this book from the very beginning. I found the plot clever, original, and occasionally unpredictable. The characters were well-written and extraordinarily interesting. The interaction between Lola and Cleo and with Ellie was whimsical and fun. The action was well-paced and compelling, trying to solve a murder and, at the same time, locate a vast treasure kept the story exciting. I found myself turning pages well into the night just to find out what was coming next. I thought the story was a well-written, gripping, and fascinating read that I would highly recommend as a cozy murder mystery thriller. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy.
