The Four Kingdoms #2

A Kingdom of Frost and Fear

Rate this book
After years of wondering where she came from and what her story was, Raven received the answers she had been craving: she has a family and is the true heir to the throne of Seolia. But the answers she so hopelessly sought only bred more questions. As she digs deeper into her past, she wonders if maybe she should have stayed hidden in the shadows, safe from the pain and agony of knowing her happily ever after may not be so happy after all.

Zeke had been right all along: she hates him for what he'd hidden from her. Now, with Raven desperate to learn who she is, he's desperate to win her back. But while still holding secrets of his own, doing so will come at a price he may not be able to pay.

And all the while, magic is slowly reawakening in the realm of The Four Kingdoms and not a soul is prepared for the new black magic Raven is now in possession of.

UMMMM… WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED IN THAT ENDING? If you loved the first book in the Four Kingdoms series, you’re really going to love A Kingdom of Frost and Fear!!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐.5/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

This series is definitely on my list of books like ACOTAR that I’ve been loving!

QUICK RECAP OF THE LAST BOOK:
We first meet Raven, Zeke, Cade - the ensuing love triangle and Raven kind of learning who she is. She fights her feelings for both men on top of learning that not only is she the rightful Queen of Seolia, she’s also a princess and heir to the throne of Reales. The only problem is, both of the men she loves have been keeping secrets from her and it’s time for her to fight for herself and the truth. We also see that Raven has started to manifest a darker energy, potentially in the form of a new power/transformative self.

A SHORT PREVIEW:
Raven has learned that Zeke is truly only trying to do what’s best for her and is trying to figure out why Mira wants so badly to keep her blinded from the city she’s heir to? All of this is overshadowed by the dark power rising in Raven that seems to be out of anyones control!

MUSINGS:
- Throughout this book, it mentions that ‘beliefs died’ and churches had been closed down. It’s going to be interesting to see how that metaphor plays out throughout the rest of the series - because, as we know from studying fallen civilizations, at the beginning of their toppling empires, the first things to go are usually religious beliefs etc. That doesn’t bode well for Mira!!
- Throughout this book and the first one, Raven’s storyline is very much about finding out who she is and learning to use her voice. It very much feels like a young woman who needs to speak up and remember that she is powerful … and on some level I found myself not loving her character at times because she became a bit too allegorically the damsel in distress. Multiple times I wanted her to use her powers and really turn the tides of situations —- and she choked.
- The romance in this book took a MUCH darker turn… and I’m talking a blood play and rougher s3x kind of dark. The same amount as the first book, but on a much more toxic level.
- Something I really liked throughout this book was getting to see the other kingdoms. It very much felt like ACOTAR with their kingdom colors etc.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT:
- CADE: I did NOT see Cade’s character going in the extreme direction that it did. Without giving too much away - I think Cade will probably need to be un-alived in the next book. He’s literally vile.. and sort of turned into a Tamlin from ACOTAR!!
- MIRA: She’s unhinged. Truly, there are so many times in this book that I thought.. someone just create a corpse of her please? For everyone. But how did she get that way? What happened to Mira and what made her that way.
- ZEKE: This is the Zeke I’ve been wanting to see throughout the first book - his dark side but also the side of him that’s somewhat deferential to his partner and doesn’t try to make decisions for her. He’s also turning out to be a great leader and I think I love his character most for that.
- RIVER: I think River will turn out to be something else entirely and maybe the most interesting character in the next book! Where his true loyalties lay etc… I can’t wait for you to discover who he is in this book! It was definitely a surprise for me that I didn’t see coming!!
- JOHN: His character was the one that grew on me the most - I really loved that he is trying so hard to be level-headed when the first book really made him seem like a villain. I don’t know exactly when that character reversal happened but I’m glad that his true motivations were revealed.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
Many other reviewers have commented on this; the smut is somewhat out of control in this series. While I think it does serve a larger purpose to explain the absolute obsession that Raven and Zeke have with each other - it can get a bit overwhelming and distracting from the plot of these novels. For as long as these books are - I’m hoping that the smut is leading to something plot-wise.. like something that will help save the kingdoms? Idk. Just needs a little more balance.. because, I’ll be completely honest - I found myself skipping through these scenes.

FAVORITE QUOTE(S):
- “I’m going to love you even when the sun sets for the final time in this universe”
- “Beliefs in our realm were banished long ago, when magic was banned, which set off a motion of all sorts of things dying - like parings, worshipping, mingling of the other kingdoms.” - I think this quote was the most foretelling for the next few books in the series.

NOTES:
- Cliffhanger ending
- Borderline obsessive romantic relationship/ Explicit s3x scenes (These are not your usually smutty scenes)
- Second chance romance vibes throughout
- Magic System Development: It’s constantly changing and morphing into something that hasn’t fully been revealed and I think that’s the biggest thing brining me back to this series!!
- Almost sexual assault - prevented
- Available on Kindle Unlimited!
- Long read - over 600+ pages

Really excited to read book three - would love to see the plot go in a slightly less smutty direction.

👑found family

👑even more spice

This is the second book in The Four Kingdoms series. I loved seeing more of Raven’s (and Zeke’s) darker side in this installment. It adds so much depth to her character. Zeke is reaaaal possessive over Raven and he will stop at nothing to protect what’s his. We love a man who fights for his woman👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.

My favorite aspect of this book was the strong found family element. A few more characters are added to the mix and they bring a lot of humor and balance to a very plot-driven book.

I really enjoyed the drama between the kingdoms and the tension of secrets and preparing for potential war more than the love scenes- but that’s just personal preference. For me it was not the highlight of the plot.

There are a lot more spicy scenes in this book than in flame and fury- so if you’re looking for more of that this book is perfect for you. There were a LOT of I love you’s exchanged. And a LOT of spicy scenes - for me it was a tiny bit distracting but if you need a book with a lot of heat- this is definitely for you.

The spice was really well written 🥵- I don’t think it needed quite so much to establish the love and intensity of Zeke and Raven’s bond. Maybe I just loved their aggressive and tense banter too much 😜.

It’s a long book- but trust the process. Big cliffhanger at the end- I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3!

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭-𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬🔥

Really well-written, and I cannot recommend this series enough (also on KU!)

Dnf at 27%

I really wished that i could continue but how could you read sex scenes in each chapters and no plot?! I mean, there was a plot but not much detailed and world building. Just because they're mates (not a spolier) doesn't mean they need to fuck all the time and apologize for not telling the truth!! It was soo annoying.

I get that MCs confess their love to each other but why on a repetitive?? FMC is struggling with unknown dark power that grows inside of her and her dead mother haunts nightmares, MCs really need to find a way to stop or solve what's happening but they're clearly busy fucking so, nope.
FMC was actually mad at MMC because he didn't say the truth about who she was or where she was from which she was soo badly needed to know. I expected her to be angry with him, at least with half of the story but, again no, they fucked and couldn't resist each other.

Whenever MMC says, 'I love you' and FMC says, 'I love you more', 'yea, let's fuck until i couldn't think straight or walk'.

Phew.

This is really disappointing to me. It's really not my intention to say this but, there are limits for evrything guys. The author didn't write deep dive into character feelings and lack of evrything happens around them. Idk what to say more.

Well, i think other readers will love this series with many sex and less plot. Book 2 gets darker than book 1 and please read TWs.

THIS BOOK. THAT ENDING. OH MY GOSH. It’s going to take me a few days to mentally recover. But this book lived up to all of my expectations and more! I LOVED Raven’s development and was super intrigued by her newest developing power. I also loooved the tension (and spice!) between Raven and Zeke. If you’re looking for a book/series with a morally grey but exceptionally powerful FMC, if you’re looking for a super spicy fantasy romance, look no further. Cannot wait for book three!!

Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Read my review of A Kingdom of Flame and Fury.

A KINGDOM OF FROST AND FEAR picks up immediately after the events of its predecessor and delivers on more magic, more world building, more politics and even more romance (and spice!) If you were a fan of the first book, I highly recommend diving into the sequel, or if those sound like things you enjoy, then try this series!

When I finished A Kingdom of Flame and Fury, I admit that I still wasn’t very sold on the main couple. Zeke and Raven have an incredible physical chemistry, but I was missing a touch of emotional depth. It was the reason why I was leaning much more toward liking Cade. In A Kingdom of Frost and Fear, however, the author and Raven have done a great job of convincing me why Zeke is the way. While Zeke could have done with a bit more pining overall, and I would have appreciated if he’d been more communicative with Raven instead of wanting to keep her in the dark to protect her as often as he does, I am happy with the space the author gave her characters to grow as individuals and as a couple. The love triangle is definitely resolved for everyone. Mostly. *sweats in cliffhanger*

The romance takes up the majority of the page time, but there were some very interesting things happening around Raven and Zeke that are setting up an incredible continuation for this series. For starters, we get to meet new characters and get to know some of those we were already familiar with better. The political stakes rise more than ever, and the author throws some incredible plot twists our way that I did not see coming! To complete the picture, Raven’s already incredible powers keep evolving with a new “identity” which is both different from the others and quite a bit more dangerous.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy! All opinions are my own.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read but some thing’s definitely bothered me about this book. I will break it down below…

What I liked:
- The magic system in this book is so interesting to me and I love how Raven shifts into different versions of herself depending on what magic she is using.
- I love the mate and twin flames trope. I’ve never read a book that had the twin flames trope and it was very interesting to me.
- The chemistry and passion that Zeke and Raven have is very entertaining and I loved their relationship.
- I love the dual POV. Zeke was definitely my favorite character in this book and I loved seeing his side of things.
- The story line is fun to read about. It’s not the most well done, but entertaining none the less.

What I disliked:
- There is so much smut in this book that it’s almost annoying at times. Don’t get me wrong, I love smut and quite a bit of it, but did there need to be that much? I don’t think so.
- Raven instantly becomes close with everyone she meets which makes no sense to me. I can understand that she is a loving person who people gravitate towards, but the way she instantly clicks with everyone with very immature dialogue is so unrealistic to me and bugged me.
- This plays into my last comment, but why does every man have to be attracted to Raven and act like they want to steal her from Zeke? Even Zeke’s brother and good friend act that way towards her and it’s very weird and disrespectful to me. I would never want my siblings or good friends acting that way towards my significant other. Again, very unrealistic.
- Raven doesn’t come off as very queen-like to me. I know that might sound strange, but she sometimes annoyed me with how emotional and weak she would be with every little situation that she went through. Obviously, it’s okay to have and show emotions, but good god Raven I need you to be the badass that you claim to be and show me with your actions rather than just tell me that you’re a badass and never show me why.
- I felt like there wasn’t a lot of world building or detail to this book. When there is world building or detail, it’s very rushed through and doesn’t go in depth like I would want it to. I felt I got that more in the first book and I wish I could get that more in this one. It was mostly just smut, which again I do love, but this book really needed more than that as the main focus in my opinion.

Overall, this was an entertaining read but definitely needed some more editing and world building/detail. I’m hoping the third book in this series will have that and live up to my expectations more.

If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I nearly always finish a book I’ve started. An exception has been made three times, this being one of them. The author writes in a cycle of the main characters fighting, then pronouncing their undying love for each other, and then them having sex. I made it over 400 pages into the second book and could not put myself through even one more confession of devotion or orgasm. With there being 50% of the second book left and 900 pages of the last of the trilogy, I couldn’t dedicate anymore time into this series. If you are looking for PWP (porn without plot), this may be more up your ally than it was mine.

Great for lovers of romance, politics, world building, and of course magic. Just like the first book, this title was filled with magical elements, secrets, and a fast paced plot. If you're a lover of darker/spicier romance this one is definitely for you! There was definitely a lot more sexy moments in this book. I would have loved to see a bit more emotional connection between the characters but! this didn't stop me from loving the book. I'm just a sucker for that couple bond and development.

I loved the world building and the different types of magical systems. I can't wait to see where this story is headed. For sure, I am totally here for the romance! I am so excited to see more of Zeke and Raven!

Huge thanks to the author for sending me the gorgeous promo box! I am so excited for what more unravels in this series.

My Thoughts

Kingdom of Frost and Fear is the second installment to "The Four Kingdoms" Series by Whitney Dean. We find ourselves back with Raven and Zeke and their adventures.

The world-building is great as usual from Whitney Dean and Zeke is still smoking hot.
I will try to write this as best I can while not spoiling anything, however from here on out try to read with caution. If you have not read the first book- go back and do that now.

The twist and turns that came from the book were extremely neat and even a couple I didn't see coming. I found Raven to be growing more into herself and her confidence blooming. I could have wished for a bit more of her magical side to have come out, but that's just because I love the magic she has!

The world-building and descriptions of the world are beautiful and I can always vividly see the towns and places in my head. I want to move to one of the palaces introduced in this series just because of her descriptions of it.

I love the introduction of the new characters, Edmond has my heart and I NEED MORE of him in the next series!!! His banter and attitude were absolutely everything. These characters brought out different sides of our characters which were SO nice to see. I loved seeing a side of Zeke that we hadn't seen in the first book.

description

As with the first book- There is a lot of spice. This has even more spice than the first book. This book was full of "I love yous" and Borderline Toxic Obsession between our two main characters, which is to be expected in a fated mates trope. Each spice scene was extremely unique and different as the story progressed... so did their scenes and that is an A+ there.

If you like extremely heavy heat, this is the book for you. I did appreciate being able to see their insecurities show, instead of the normal "fated mates = we know each other" thing. That was refreshing. They do work well together and their relationship does not come easy, I do miss some of the banter from the first book before they were obsessed with each other- but I feel this has been done for a reason so I am super curious to see their relationship grow from here as well.

While, the spice is extremely well written I found myself losing sight of the plot line because of it, and getting tired of the constant "I love you" and spice scenes.

I am extremely excited for the next book and to see where everything goes from here. We were left on a cliffhanger, and it was one that I wasn't expecting so eagerly await the next release coming out June 27, 2023!! More than enough time for you to catch up on the series!!

Love was not an accurate word anymore. Complete devotion. Mad passion. Intimate adoration. And everyone wants a piece of Raven.

Actual rating 4.5 stars

This is an adult fantasy romance (18+) dual POV series centered around Zeke and Raven. It’s currently a five-book series but only four books will focus on Raven and Zeke. The fifth book POV hasn’t been announced yet!

Whitney continues to delight us with well written characters and vivid exploration of The Four Kingdoms.
AKOFAF kept me entertained and engaged in the story, despite book being quite long. This is a very character driven book, but it still has a mysterious plot and political scheming. The more I read, the more unanswered questions arose. I have already several theories and I hope they will come true, because holy crate of wine if they will!

Zaven came a long way from where they were in book #1. Witnessing their growth throughout the series, I can't wait to see what struggles they need to overcome next. Because I want them to grow even more. To be strong.

''I believe someone once told me that the pain will lead to something beautiful.'' I grinned.

''Whoever it is, he sounds handsome and very brilliant.'' She snorted. ''He's entirely too full of himself. Someone has filled him with way too much confidence.''

Zeke and Raven has their own flavor of twisted depravity and ohmagod this book was full of lust, blood, madness, worshipping and revelations. They have their freak on so often, that I lost the count and I'm not even mad about it haha They were like horny teenagers, who were barely apart and only survived from each other. Sometimes literally. NGL, I would love to be a part of their sinfully twisted activities. Whitney wrote those scenes so well and diverse. Ugh, why I feel horny again 🥵

I'm super eager to see more spicy fanart of them. There's already 1 delicious post that author posted. Go check it out, you freak ;)

Wrapping a hand around her throat, I squeezed and felt the vibration of her high against my palm. The raspiness of her voice while she yelled my name again was strangled and raw, triggering my release as my entire body numbed from the force of how hard I coated her.''''

Sir...

I also want to thank Whitney for giving us such amazing secondary characters! I absolutely loved Jeanine, Luca, Edmund and Eva. Jeanine totally owns ''Boyfriend by Dove Cameron'' song. And how mighty she was with commanding men haha Luca is such a little devil. I loved their brotherly love. And Edmund - I need Edmund in my life :D He's such a tease! I adored to see moments between Zeke and his family. And of course Raven and his family. There are more characters and their interactions that you will find infuriating and/or lovable.

What you can expect:
* Adult fantasy romance
* Spicyyyy read
* Good girl / Praise
* Fated mates / Arranged Marriage
* Hidden Identity / Royalty
* Grumpy / Sunshine
* Touch her/him and Die
* Found family
* Forced proximity
* Mental and emotional manipulation
* Magical powers / Witchy vibes
* Twists, betrayals and political scheming

Minor issue - Don't get me wrong. I loved dynamic between Zaven and how open they were with each other. But after another ''I love you'' no ''I love you more'' it became tad to much. I know, I'm crazy for saying this. But I mean, they know that already. How can they still not believe it. Occasionally it was too smoochy for me. But then again, we were rewarded with commands from Zeke and I also wanted to be a good girl and tell him ILY ,so.. It's me. I'm the problem.
Also, occasionally their conversations were repetitive. I understand the idea behind them. To convince of true intentions and so one. But still.

''Promise me that one day, all we'll be is wildly unhinged together.''

“I thanked the gods for bestowing upon me the honor of loving her."

“You are my sin incarnate, and I am your death."

"He was cut from the very landscapes of my deepest desires. He was walking sin, put on this earth to darken my soul."

Blurb: After years of wondering where she came from and what her story was, Raven received the answers she had been craving: she has a family and is the true heir to the throne of Seolia.

My thoughts: OH MY GOODNESS what a fantastic book 2 for a book I've been madly in love with since i read it! I freaking love Raven and the plot twists I didn't see coming that involve her are exciting and intriguing (well some of them, I did in fact confirm with the author whether she hates me or not with that damn cliffhanger) I feel like Raven and Zeke's relationship drives me a bit crazy in this book with the hot and cold, yes and no action, however it is plausible as Raven is fighting inner demons and neither one of them have had a meaningful relationship prior to each other so of course they are going to be annoying sometimes 🤣 Their love is inspiring though, and The dialogue is freaking hilarious between them. I seriously can't wait to see where this story goes next! @authorwhitneydean the stuff that comes out of your brain is unreal, and I love being here for every minute of it! Thank you for letting me be on your team
I give a Kingdom of Frost and Fear by Whitney Dean ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.🌟

1st person/dual pov
Spice: 4.5/5 - because of Zeke and that mouth!! WHEW!

YALL - Raven and Zeke OWN me!!!
I cannot get enough of their story. From the world-building to the character growth to the plot and then the spice on top of all of that?! I've become completely obsessed with this series!

This book picks up right as the last one left off. If you read the first book then you know it was quite a cliffhanger. No time is wasted as we dive back into the heavy emotions of what occurred at the end of book one. Raven is away from her kingdom and facing truths that she's always wanted about herself and her past, but having the truth doesn't always mean it is easy to swallow. She has decisions to make and feelings to work through regarding the people in her life that she thought she could trust. On top of all of that, she has this newfound power growing inside her that she doesn't understand. You really see Raven come into her own as she learns more about this new companion to her magic and as she begins to discover what it takes to be the queen she was always meant to be.

As for Zeke, we get to see sides of him that we didn't in Flame and Fury. I loved his pov chapters so so much as not only did we get to see how much he loves Raven but we also get insight into why he's made some of the decisions he has. We learn more about where his heart was at and how he has been trying to protect everyone he cares about no matter what it has caused him to sacrifice. This man is so beaten down and broken that it hurts my soul to see him think he is not worthy of love, friendship, and devotion when his self-sacrificing nature makes him the most worthy of them all. Even though we get glimpses into the dark deeds of his past, which is one reason he often feels he doesn't deserve what's in front of him, it just shows how far he has come from the man he was to the man he is now. It is one of my favorite things about him. Although nothing can top the possessiveness he has over Raven. That all-consuming need to own his woman's every thought, every waking breath, just gets me every single time. It's by far my number one favorite MMC trait and Whitney did not hold back when giving it to Zeke!

Between fighting for their love and fighting off anyone who shows an interest in our enticing little witch I'm not sure how the poor guy didn't implode a few times lol! Although Raven seems to keep him pretty worn out over the course of the book even when fighting... if you know what I mean hehe. Because the spice level took one hell of an increase from Fury to this one! If you just thought book one was hot then you better hold on to your knickers when you get to this one. I can assure you they will be at risk of flying right off! I really didn't think these two could get any hotter than they were already. Boy was I dead ass WRONG. Raven seems to be constantly gaining more confidence in herself and Zeke is steadily worshipping her all while testing more boundaries in their lovemaking so the flames just keep burning brighter and higher. I know some people do not like a ton of spice in a more plot-heavy book but I myself am all for it. Most books are either heavy on the story with a little bit of spice thrown in or heavy on the smut and the plot takes more of a back seat. But when you can give me both lots of plot and lots of smut at the same time without me getting bored or overwhelmed then honey... Bring. It. On! Which is exactly what Whitney did here. I loved every single dirty, filthy, steamy, jaw-dropping, face-blushing, mouthwatering, hyperventilating moment of it! Plus some new kinks were thrown in I wasn't expecting and yea, I was drooling more than I'm a little comfortable admitting. Oh well, I enjoyed it so there it is lol.

Now for the plot and side characters.
The storyline already had my attention from the previous book and that only continued to grow throughout this one. The more we learn the more we realize we don't know half of what all has happened. This goes so much deeper than I originally thought it did and there are so many secrets that have been hidden it is a wonder how they have all stayed quiet. Some of the twists revealed completely took me by surprise and for me, that is fairly hard to do as I'm usually pretty good about picking out the little details that give them away before I get there. So kudos to Whitney for keeping me in the dark the entire time. It was nice to not always know what was coming next. My mind is still reeling over what could possibly be coming in book three and I honestly do not think any of my theories will be close to accurate which has me even more excited for it to get here so I can find out.
The rest of the characters in this story are so much more than side characters to me. They are truly important to so many different aspects of the journey we are on. I have found myself going from extreme dislike to completely infatuated with one of them, having instalove moments with a few others, as well as some heavy dislike turning to utter hatred for another. (If I mentioned who I wouldn't be able to stop myself from spoiling because my blood would boil over again and I'd spill my guts... I'm on the verge of spitting acid just thinking about it - very, very well-written villains here just saying.) Anyways, a lot of them truly become a family, a family that Raven has always wanted and that Zeke deserves more than anything. The smile it puts on my face any time they all interact and show how loyal they are to one another makes my face hurt but in a good way.

There are just so many emotions that this book will take you through it's almost like you're living through the events right alongside them. It's paced so well that it doesn't feel rushed or excessively drawn out. The world-building just continues to expand getting more detailed and mesmerizing. And the cliffhanger has me so nervous and excited about what is about to go down in the next installment! There's also a bonus scene from one of the new character's pov at the end of the ebook as well as a bonus scene from Zeke's pov in the physical copies. After reading the one in the ebook I have no doubt that things are about to get wild and I absolutely cannot wait! Do not sleep on this series - trust me!

**This story is intended for mature audiences. It is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. As always check the TW/CW provided by the author before starting this book.**

"I would hand over my crown and title if it meant being her jester because I was a fool for her."

I enjoyed this sequel in Raven and Zeke's story. Raven's character is still my favorite. I love how she's becoming more and more confident in herself and her abilities. I wish we would learn more about Zeke, other than his obsession with Raven, but I still think he's an interesting character.
I think the writing is still really good, the pacing is good too, and there are soooo many good lines in this one.
I think the spice is becoming a bit much? It feels like it's taking over the story and we are losing character and plot development in favor of more detailed + explicit spicy scenes. The spice is written well, but there's just so. much. of. it.
Other than that, overall, I thought AKOFAF was pretty good. it was written well, I liked the pacing and the world building is really fun and interesting to read about. I'm really liking getting to see the relationships that Raven is building with the other characters. I can't wait to see more of the realms and explore Ravens powers and the different types of magic! There's so many plot twists and reveals, it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. btw there is a big cliff hanger on this one.

end note: I was team Cade in the first book, but I am one hundred percent team Zaven now, fck Cade lmao.

A Kingdom of Frost and Fear picks up right where we left our gang in Flame and Fury.

AKOFAF took us even further on an exploration of Raven and Zeke, and the four kingdoms where they live.

I really enjoyed that we got to see more development in Zaven; from insta-love in book 1 to really going through it and coming out on top in book 2, it really warms my heart. Raven trying to discover more about who she is really fleshes out her character and makes you feel so much for her. Her relationship development with Jeanine really made me happy. They had some interactions in book 1 but I love that Raven has a friend that she can totally depend on outside of Zeke.

The plot twists, revelations, secrets and lies had me hanging onto the edge of my seat. I second guessed almost every single word that came out of any character's mouth. I didn't trust anyone and I felt so bad for Raven for how everyone manipulates her. Speaking of twists: the ending!! I need to know more, immediately.

Thank you to Whitney Dean for an advanced copy of this book, all opinions are my own.

"You are everything I already knew I needed but never dreamed I would find."

There aren't enough words to describe how much I love this story, but here's to trying!

Raven and Zeke go THROUGH it. Poor babies have so much thrown at them during this book, it's amazing that they still hold so much love in their hearts. Whitney is a MASTER of making you feel the full spectrum of her characters emotions, from loss to love, heartbreak to rage. It's truly a gift to read her books. So when I tell you that these characters go through it, trust me when I say you will too. I recommend taking the day off work after you finish, solely for your emotional health.

There is a TON of new information that makes what happened in book 1 make sense, but also lots of new characters and plot twists that come to light and will make you read all night, forgoing sleep. Even with all the twists and turns, this book reads like an absolute dream. The story flows so naturally, and the relationships are honest, relatable, and so damn beautiful. The friendships made and strengthened in this book made this a top found family book for me, as they're so deep and beautiful that it made me want to go to Duck's just to witness the magic 🥰

THE SPICE. Damn. Not sure what Daddy Zeke has been doing but this man can actually murder me and I would thank him from beyond the grave. F*CKING DELICIOUS 🫠🫠 There's a lot of it in this book, but they really enhance the plot, and vice versa. It's such a complex and perfectly written story that I cannot stop talking about.

I could honestly talk about this book for days, but the basis is this: Frost and Fear is a magical story of friendship, love, and hilarious moments with found family that will absolutely leave you in a book slump, but it's so worth it 🖤

A Kingdom of Frost and Fear is book two of the Four Kingdoms, A Dark Fantasy Romance Series. It's a dual POV centered around Zeke and Raven.

When I got sent this arc, I hadn't yet read the first book in the series. I quickly devoured it so I could read this one. Reading them back to back, I loved seeing Raven and Zeke's relationship grow from the first book to this one. Their love for one another is beautiful. I can't wait to see where it goes in future books.

Whitney took us on a ride with plot twists I didn't see coming and left us with a heck of a cliffhanger!! I am impatiently awaiting book three now. I have so many questions and there is so much left to be discovered.

If you are into tropes such as: dark fantasy/arranged marriage/Enemies-to-Lovers/touch her and you die/forced proximity, I highly suggest this book!

Be sure to check trigger ⚠️ first!

A Kingdom of Frost and Fear is book 2 in The Four Kingdoms series. This book is HEFTY. I’m a fast reader but this book took me a little while due to its size.

The story picks up right where we left off in A Kingdom of Flame and Fury. As I mentioned in my review of book 1, the magic the MC possesses feels unique to me and we get a bit more world building and into more magic in book 2.

I’m glad we got a bit more relationship development between the MCs in book 2 as it was rather Insta-lovey in book 1 and I wanted some more from them.

This is part of a series and DOES end on a cliffhanger.

- Fated mates
- Touch her and die
- Dark fantasy
- Enemies-to-lovers
- Forced proximity
- Dual POV

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I received this as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

I said there were so many secrets in the last book, but dang, this one was like ba-bam! Loved it. There was tons of spice in this one, almost so much that I was like dang girl...how you walking? However there was quite a few times where I was like, "*wipes sweat from brow, wow..."
I loved Ravens new black magic, I want to see fanart of it so bad! you meet so many new characters, too. There are two in particular at the end that I am in love with. I cant wait to read the third book now.

I'm so sad to DNF but I cant do it anymore. The first book was really great, just needed some editing. This one had the same issues but also I could not handle any more back and forth between the MMC and FMC. The FMC has not grown much, if at all. She continues to make childish decisions, come to insane conclusions, and cannot get over anything in her past. The information we kept being teased about is still not clear and I truly doubt we will get that info before the end of this installment. These two spend 85% of their time in bed together and then the rest they are talking about how they don't want to ever be apart. The story just doesn't move. I had high hopes but I can't put anymore time in. :(

I DNFed at 43%. Holy cow I could not take another declaration of undying love from these two. I almost didn’t finish book one but gave it a shot and tried out this one and am officially done. The level of smut is unhinged and over the top and I struggled to feel the emotions of the main characters. Usually you’re with them feeling the feels but not once did I feel fully immersed in this story in any way. I feel like there is a ton of potential but it’s not quite there.

Sorry but this book is just sex, and not in a good way.

It also committed the unforgivable sin of:

«… we have something they do not, and it is the greatest weapon of all.»
«Love, baby. We have love»

🙄

Dnf @ 42%

Edit:
Ended up finishing the book. I stand by what I said.
Addition: why is everyone crying ALL THE GODDAMN TIME??

Two stars because there was a hint of plot at the end 💩

⊹ 𝗔 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗿 is being told by Zeke and Raven’s POV, and I’m a sucker for dual POV. I wanted to devour this book but didn’t want it to end.

❝𝒫𝓁𝑒𝒶𝓈𝑒 𝒸𝑜𝓂𝑒 𝒷𝒶𝒸𝓀 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓈𝓉𝒶𝓎 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝓂𝑒, 𝒽𝑒 𝓌𝒽𝒾𝓈𝓅𝑒𝓇𝑒𝒹. 𝑅𝒶𝓋𝑒𝓃, 𝓅𝓁𝑒𝒶𝓈𝑒. 𝒟𝑜𝓃’𝓉 𝓁𝑒𝓉 𝒽𝒾𝓂 𝓉𝑜𝓊𝒸𝒽 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒶𝓈 𝐼 𝒽𝒶𝓋𝑒.❞

⊹ 𝗭𝗲𝗸𝗲’𝘀 𝗣𝗢𝗩 𝗶𝘀 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚. I love seeing his adoration and his love for Raven. I love that he 𝗗𝗜𝗗𝗡'𝗧 give up. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙍𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣. 𝙃𝙚 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙨; 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙨 𝙞𝙩 ♡ With Zeke’s POV, we see his struggle with everything. I love the devotion he’s got for Raven and his family. Everything he does has always been about them. Seeing him so broken was heartbreaking. I don’t think there is anything about this man that I hate.

⊹ 𝗠𝘆 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁, 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻. She sees the good in everyone, even if they don’t f**ing deserve it. She’s so pure, and all I wanna do is protect her. All she wanted was to be loved, to have that family she could trust and rely on. I would give anything to see that smile on her face and to hear her laugh because it is entrancing. 𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆! With 𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗣𝗢𝗩, we get to see her struggle against, well, everything. But we also get to see her get stronger [not that she wasn’t such a strong, badass witch queen already]. I think I swoon for her as much as Zeke swoon’s for Raven.

❝𝒴𝑜𝓊 𝒹𝑜𝓃’𝓉 𝒽𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝓇𝒾𝓈𝓀 𝓈𝑜𝓂𝑒𝑜𝓃𝑒’𝓈 𝓁𝒾𝒻𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒶 𝓇𝑒𝒶𝒸𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝑜𝒻 𝓂𝑒. 𝒜𝓁𝓁 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒽𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝒹𝑜 𝒾𝓈 𝓁𝑜𝑜𝓀 𝒶𝓉 𝓈𝑜𝓂𝑒𝑜𝓃𝑒, 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝐼 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝓉𝑜 𝓌𝓇𝒶𝓅 𝓂𝓎 𝒽𝒶𝓃𝒹𝓈 𝒶𝓇𝑜𝓊𝓃𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝒾𝓇 𝓉𝒽𝓇𝑜𝒶𝓉.❞

⊹ I fell in love with 𝗭𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻 even 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 than I did with Fury. They’re beautiful and broken, but I love them just as they are. 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗭𝗲𝗸𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 ♡ These two burns for each other, they crave for each other, they were destined for each other, and together they are 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘.

⊹ I never thought I would fall in love with some of the characters I didn’t like in Fury, but I was wrong because I love Jeanine. 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 is the kind of best friend that anyone would be lucky to have. She deserves so much happiness.

⊹ There were new characters introduced in this book that I adored! Eva is the cutest little girl EVER ♡ I am forever grateful to Theodore. I am so happy to see Arthur and Grace.

⊹ 𝕀 𝕝𝕠𝕧𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕤𝕖𝕟 𝕗𝕒𝕞𝕚𝕝𝕪 𝕤𝕠 𝕞𝕦𝕔𝕙 ♡

⊹ All this to say that I love this book so much. From chosen family, touched her and you die, fated mates, grumpy/sunshine 𝗔 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗿 has all the tropes that I love and more ♡ The spice? It was 𝗙𝗟𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 There were twists and turns that I did not see coming, and my mind just blew 🤯 There were so many mysteries that I need answers to, and I cannot wait to find out more about it in 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝟯.

THE BEST.
The story starts where it left off in book one and is addicting. Zaven is life, I love them and they give you couples goals even after being angry with each other. I am OBSESSED here, it’s a wow story and tops my 2022 reads. Finally, I got my number one book of the year. Six months ago I thought that A Kingdom Of Flame And Fury is brilliance but this one tops it just as any sequel should. Whitney Dean is a brilliant writer and definitely knows how to garner the attention of the readers. And let me tell you she’s a fun-loving person too.

Now now who got my attention the most in this book is our handsome man here ZEKE, he’s a gorgeous man with the Heart of gold. He’s tough, he’s intimidating, but he’s a softy where Raven is concerned and that’s the thing that matters the most. Zeke is a dream and I support him in whatever he does. My ultimate favourite MAN.

Raven is the strongest protagonist I have seen. She’s a vision. She is breaking and I feel for her. Every time she cries or feels lonely, my heart breaks a little. Her determination is something to look for. She’s a kind soul and is loved by all, there is no bad bone in her. She always searches for good even in bad people and she is utterly gorgeous.

Zeke and Raven together are a powerhouse and they are intense. Their chemistry is off the charts and super spicy in every way. Zaven is bigger than life and I adore them for it. I love their possessiveness for each other. I found some good supporting characters here, Jeannine is a darling and her character is supportive and loved. Luca is a big brother Raven needs. The friend Raven make supports her just as a family should.

Cade is the number one scum, I hate the character and what has become of him. He’s not welcome here, with every interaction the hatred increases. Then there is Mira who is a manipulative b** and deserves the villain of the year award.

The story unravels itself in an addicting way and captures my mind and soul with it. It’s being blended like a movie and you will find yourself feeling everything. Few secrets are revealed that bring you to your knees and those are the ones I never expected to find. The climax, secret, and cliffhanger are the ones that were surprising for me and I DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING.

The entire story is a surprise package where you’ll make your own assumptions but Whitney will amaze you with her mysterious plot and political schemings. All the assumptions made are wasted in front of the picture coming in few. So just dive in and live life with Zaven as things come in. Laugh with them, cry with them and feel horny with them. HAPPY READING.

Raven and Zeke deliver some serious heat in this one!

A Kingdom of Frost and Fear is even darker and smuttier than its predecessor. Most of the page time is dedicated to Raven and Zeke’s romance, with many intimate scenes between them but also beautiful moments where the two get to know each other better, bridging those moments that were a bit lost in the insta-lust frenzy of the first book. If I was undecided about whether or not I shipped them before, I am definitely convinced now! Especially since Cade didn’t leave me much of a choice. His behavior in this installment did the work for me.

As a romance-driven reader, I definitely appreciated the focus on the relationship, but I also really appreciated getting to see more about this incredible world and getting to know its characters better. I especially loved finally getting more time with Zeke’s family (I may have fallen a little bit in love with Luca). Other important aspects of this installment were the evolving political intrigue, which takes some drastic turns for the worst and brings the Four Kingdoms closer and closer to war, and Raven’s magic. I didn’t think I could love it more, but the dark touch added by Morana’s powers and the story connected to this entity is something I found really interesting and hope will be explored more in the following books.

Overall, the author did a great job at bridging some of the gaps left in the first book, solidifying the relationships and adding plenty of new shocking twists to move her story forward. The cliffhanger took me completely by surprise in the most heartbreaking way possible, and I’m desperate for the next book!

If you're not familiar with the series , read my review of book 1, A Kingdom of Flame and Fury, and read my review here.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

4.5/5⭐️ 4/5🌶

What a ride. A Kingdom of Frost and Fear picks up where we left off in A Kingdom of Flame and Fury. The relationship of Zaven is unlike any other I’ve read. It’s nearly impossible to talk about without giving spoilers, but I’m going to at least tell you how it made me feel.

Like Raven and Zeke, we definitely get out through the wringer. I went from thinking everything is starting out strong, to istg if these characters don’t sort their shit out, to omg I can’t even with them because it was so beautiful. I was legit tearing up at the strong emotions I felt while reading some of these scenes.

Raven has to decide for herself what is right and wrong within the family she’s always wanted and the family she’s built. There are definitely some twists I DID NOT see coming. Absolutely OH SNAP a moments that spawn off a whole set of new problems they must face.

The spice was OTT! They could not stay off of each other! I love the dark depravity that comes with the passion that is Zeke and Raven. All consuming is the exact words for these two. We find out new things we didn’t know before about their relationship and some things are hinted at that I think I have figured out, but I’ll have to wait for the next book to know if I’m right!

Cade…fucking Cade. If you know how Cade was in the last book, he steps his game up tremendously in this book. That’s all I’m gonna say there.

It was a beast of a book, but definitely worth the read. It leaves you on the edge of your seat and has a little something for everyone.

The books ends on a major cliffhanger. And I need book 3 like yesterday. 2 Bonus scenes can be read; 1 in the physical copy and 1 in the ebook.

“This part of us wasn’t love. It was obsession. It was dangerous.”

A kingdom of Frost and Fear is the second book in The Four Kingdoms series and picks up right where Fury left off.

I had quite literally been counting down the months and days until this arc hit my kindle and I almost died when it finally did. Now, I do just want to say that Frost is LONG but, stick with it, I promise it’s worth it!

Raven & Zeke, where do I even start ? I’m so glad we got to see more of them together in Frost. From Insta love in Fury to really getting to see another side of them was a stand out for me.

If I’m being completely honest, I was team Cade in Fury but I am 110% team Zeke now. His love and adoration for Raven is intense and I love it! Cade, on the other hand, can suck it!

Another stand out for me in Frost is the world building and relationship developments between Raven and other characters. I adore her relationship with Luca and Jeanine. I think it’s so special!

Can we also just talk about the smut for a second because let me tell you, there is a lot of it! At times I thought it took away from the story a bit, but at the same time I was thinking, my god, Zeke is just 🥵

That ending too! I knew something like that was coming. I just didn’t think THAT would actually happen.. IYKYK !

I cannot wait for book three, A Kingdom of Death and Despair! After that cliffhanger I need answers and I need them now!
