Tactics: Securing the Victory in Every Young Man's Battle

Rate this book
The ultimate showdown calls for the ultimate team. Jesus and you.

God sets a pretty high standard for sexual purity for his “Among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality” (Ephesians 5:3).

Can you reach that standard? You’ve tried–and often succeeded. But if you haven’t quite finished the job, you still need the right game day tactics to defeat temptation–and be God’s champion.

Tactics picks up where Every Young Man’s Battle leaves off. It explains why sexual sin is so addictive and why guys battling in the trenches to stay pure still struggle. Most of all, it unveils the spiritual front of this epic match-up and how an intimate connection to the Father is the edge needed for victory.

Grab hold of these practical steps to the deeper spiritual intimacy that will neutralize the sexual pollution in today’s culture. And start living to the extreme with God.

ou’ve probably heard of Fred Stoeker. He’s one half of the Every Man’s Franchise. They’ve written several books including Every Young Man’s Battle which covers how to fight your lust problem physically. You should bounce your eyes and starve the sumo. If you haven’t read it yet I recommend it highly. Tactics covers how you fight lust on the spiritual side. If you put them together you’ve got a great start on controlling your lust.

We have a problem with pornography and masturbation because we have intimacy problems, both with our brothers in Christ and with God Himself. Stoker recommends finding a group of guys that you can be open with that also hold your sexual standards. Don’t hang around people who don’t understand God’s sexual standards or don’t live by them. To protect your purity you’re going to have to think very carefully about what you watch, the music you listen to and the jokes you are around. “Not even a hint of sexual immorality” is God’s standard (Eph. 5.3). Is there a “hint” in your life?

We also don’t have true intimacy with the Father. Stoeker reviews in-depth some great ways to start intimacy with God. You need to worship individually, you need to pray honestly, you need to read the Bible and study it. There’s more, but why ruin the surprise? Don’t have a problem with pornography? Your life is completely “hint” free of sexuality? You must live alone in a cave somewhere! Our culture is supersaturated with sexually charged images and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime soon. We have to figure out how to not take those images in. Tactics will help you in that pursuit.

This was a great sequel to Every Young Man's Battle. It was great to be reminded of the things I learned in the first book as well as learn about new things that I hadn't really put much thought into. I highly recommend reading Tactics if you've already read the first in the series.
