it’s so annoying when the mystery doesn’t get resolved in one volume.

It’s too bad I’ve seen this part as anime already… but things seem to progress more speedily in the manga. And Kazuma is more of a brat.
Pity that things are less explained than e.g. in Meitantei Konan (dakuon are, but we don’t see the “ancient Kana” appearing for example).

This was the first case where the team investigate the case independently, without any of their teachers in the academy, and it was a very interesting case. The five kids from DDS go to a village to investigate mysterious disappearances and it turns out, they become witnesses to one themselves.
There is an ominous feeling in this one since there's talk about an ancient curse, cults, and the wrath of God. Two murders occur in this volume and the fear is quite evident among the Q class students. The strange vibe is further heightened by the appearance of some creepy masks that actually made me flinch the first time they came up. The artwork is still so good, and the story is so interesting, I'm enjoying this one.

Though the last book unofficially become the first case that the Q Class solves together, we all know that it will be nothing compared to the real cases in the future, that may be equally mysterious or dangerous, or even worse. Of course, before they go solving real cases, there are other things equally important to do first, such as not being late coming to the school in the first day!
THE KAMIKAKUSHI VILLAGE MURDERS
It is only the first day of school for the Q class, and after a short history of the establishment of DDS, the principal Morihiko Dan gives them their first case: mysterious disappearances! The next day, the class goes to neighboring villages of Hyotan and Kamikakushi, where 7 treasure hunters have been reported lost in the last 10 years. Not long after they arrive in Hyotan Village, one of the TV crew, coming to the village to search for the rumored treasure, goes missing, only to be found dead. The next night, another member vanishes into thin air in Kamikakushi Village, in the exact way as the student disappeared long time ago. A camera the victim has with him shows the impossible. Do these disappearances have connection with the strange cult of these villages that believes in the god of disease? Or with the infinity symbol which is believed to hold the answer to the hidden treasure of these villages?
Villages with their tradition and belief are scary sometimes. The outsiders are required to follow any routine pertaining to this tradition and belief and avoid any taboo or risk themselves to any misfortune that will befall them, mostly associated with ‘mystical power’. This case is interesting because it presents the clash between rational and supernatural explanations. This kind of case is my favourite, too, since it’s definitely intriguing to find logical explanations of other worldly events.
The five students of Q Class are like pieces of puzzle. Alone, they cannot form a complete picture. Each has their own strength and when combines, they can solve the mystery presented to them. Though this case still continue to the next book, it’s so good to see how five different minds can work together to find the one answer.
MEET THE MAIN CHARACTERS
Kyu
He’s hopeless. His excitement is greater than his fear. I bet he will be able to sleep peacefully in haunted house in any festival. But I guess this particular trait has its own benefit, too. People cannot think rationally when fear overcomes them. And detective definitely needs a clear mind to be able to solve a case.
Megumi Minami
She’s the only girl in this special class. As a fellow women, I know I should not say this, but I’ve got a feeling that if there is a deductive test in which the results will be revealed in order from the highest to lowest score, her name will come up last. Even Kinta who’s blatantly look stupid can make one or two stupid deductions, which give Kyu and Ryu the hints to the real answer. But this girl, she indicates that she’s nothing without her photographic memory.
Kintarou Tooyama
He really disapproves of Kazuma and his methods, though strangely he always gets paired with the boy. For someone with a shockingly good luck, it is really strange, indeed. His sense of smell is also better than normal people.
Kazuma Narusawa
This boy is proven to be able to do the impossible, only when he is sitting in front of his laptop. It really makes me want to see him in a situation where he cannot access the technology at all. What will happen then?
Ryu Amakusa
Despite his pretty face, this mysterious boy tends to be dramatic and speak in poetry. He reveals his creepy hobby: researching diseases and poisons. No wonder he can fish something out of a dead body’s hand without losing his calm.
THE MORAL VALUES OF THE STORY
Don’t overthink. Sometimes a problem can be solved by simple thinking rather than complex one. Take a look at Kazuma and Kinta. Kazuma tries to decipher a code by using so many complicated ways of thinking to no avail, but when Kinta offers a really simple way of thinking, he manages to crack the code! Some of us tend to think too much when facing a problem, not realizing that it is not actually as hard as it seems.

Manga ini lebih tebal daripada Conan ya, jadi bacanya cukup lama. Tapi, sampai sekarang nggak bosan, sih. Cocok sebagai selingan dari Conan! :)

This is a series for a manga fan looking for a lighthearted read without much intensity.
The book starts with a group of students starting out at a Detective School and being selected as the premier class - Class Q (though not meritocratically), to be taught directly by Detective Dan. This makes the premise quite fascinating due to the variety of characters exhibited by the young students - making the series almost like a TV Show with the stereotypical group of crime solvers - The Hacker, The Brawns, The Brains, etc..
The series then starts with them being assigned their first case, having them head to a mysterious village with apparently ritualistic killings.
Its definitely a fun read and a good series to keep in mind for those days with some downtime.
