An explosion in St. Albinus rocks more than just the town centre when the victim turns out to be someone from Maggie’s past. Mack pretty quickly decides the two of them have to find the killer, because the victim had a lot of skeletons in his closet—literally —and it’s going to take someone who was around back in the day to get to the bottom of this.
Meanwhile, someone around town is spreading rumours about Mack, and she’s pretty sure she knows who’s behind them. And how come Aksel seems to magically be involved in every case Mack decides to investigate?
As the case progresses, Mack discovers that some people will stop at nothing to let the past stay in the past, and that includes targeting the people she loves. Will she get to the bottom of the case without getting blown away herself?
Axsel and Mack end up working together to keep the older folks personal secrets from being aired publicly. The Old man in town starts threatening Mack and bad mouthing her and her business, which all but shuts it down. Now she is trying hard to let people get to know her by attending the weekly bar quiz and starting a book club. Twice during the investigation she is brought in close quarters with Axsel both somewhat realizing there are sparks flying. A fun exciting read
Jasmine Webb is amazing and creating characters that draw you in for the long haul
I have read most if not all of Jasmine Webbs books. The Mackenzie Owens series has quickly become my favorite! I love the characters in all of the series but Mack and her grandmother Maggie have a relationship that makes you laugh out loud from beginning to end of the books! If you are a fan of cozy mystery with humor this is for you! God Bless!
This series is a fun version of Murder She Wrote were a group of four women just seems to stumble into murder mysteries and have some fun ways of vetting them solved.
Despite a great plot idea and ongoing development of characters, the books in this series seem to get sillier and sillier. It is enjoyable reading but there are places in the story where the author falls short--one place in particular where supposedly a seasoned investigator relies on local gossip to search for someone rather than a more methodical approach you would expect. I have enjoyed all three of the books in this series but would like to see more follow-through.
