Hi! I’m Heather.

It’s great to meet you! I’m a socially-awkward introvert who loves love stories. I’m not awesome at singing or keeping my house clean, but I somehow find the time to obsessively read romance novels. I consider it one of my many talents.

In my opinion, you can never have too many books (or french fries…), messy buns are a girl’s best friend, and I’d probably die without my laptop. If I wasn’t over-committing myself to future stories or procrastinating to meet my deadlines, I’m not quite sure what I’d do with myself.

Be sure to find all sorts of sneak peeks and my more than likely cuss-word filled rantings over on the blog. Oh, and if you’re a fan of getting in the mood to read and connecting to the characters that way, check out the playlists that accompany each story in the “Playlists” tab.

Peace, love, and abs for days.

Riot and London are both entering their last year of college. They play hockey and want to go pro. They have been rivals for at least the last 3 years and have butted heads on the ice. For the last year at college, London has transferred to Riot's exclusive college for the wealthy. London is from a poor single parent family and has gotten a scholarship, been recruited to Riot's hockey team. Riot is from a wealthy family, but his mom is a substance abuser andabsent and his dad is domineering and doesn't support his hockey career.

These guys already hate each other. It's going to be rough for them to get along as teammates. But even worse, a housing mix up / issue lands them as roommates. They get on each other's nerves, they got aggressive. And then it turns into sexual tension and they start hooking up.

I had mixed feelings about this book. For the first 50% of the book, it came off to me as poorly written plot wise. These guys don't talk about what they're doing. They share two kisses throughout the first 50% and never talk about it until after the 50% mark. This is the first time both of them have been attracted to someone of the same sex. Yet in various points, they both are having internal monologues about wanting something serious and being so into the other person. It just seems like a mismatch where they couldn't be at that emotional stage and they haven't processed enough to make it believable. By the 50% mark, These guys have had two passionate kisses. They haven't talked after each kiss, they haven't even acknowledged really that they've kissed. It's weird that they go home to their shared apartment after these kisses and don't pick up where they left off or even talk about it at all.

There's a bunch of random scenes that just don't seem maturely written or thought out by the author. London doesn't think he should go home for Christmas because it would put a financial burden on his mother to have another mouth to feed, and in the next breath he is inviting Riot to come with him to his mother's for Christmas. There's a random scene where London gets in a fight in a game and gets a bruised face and Riot is all gently concerned, and it doesn't make sense because 1) they're not in that stage yet of their relationship where feelings make a lot of sense and 2) they're hockey players they're used to injuries. Riot gets a tongue piercing at some point, which doesn't seem smart for a hockey player to get, they already lose their teeth without having a piercing in there to cause problems. The way the progress on their surrogacy journey was described at the 98% mark was very basic and poorly written.

But even with those negatives, and there were a lot of them, there were still some redeeming things with this book. The animosity between them was good. After the 50% mark, they talked about their relationship and the earlier problem of their feelings not matching the stage of their relationship resolved itself. There were some very sweet moments of hand holding, snuggling on couches, bed sharing, caring for each other when injured, and a whole bunch of other sweet moments. I'm a sucker for snuggles so that goes a long way with me.

It was also nice that there was an epilogue far into the future, because right up until the end I was worried this would just be a happy for now. I did want to know why Riot was leaving the NHL after only 5 years when he could have played for another 10 years they said. A reference was made to him having something else that he wanted to do with his life, but they didn't say what that was. Is it that he wants to be a dad and they picked him to be a stay-at-home dad? I don't understand

Some notable moments:

""I'm so fucking sick of this back and forth between us." His voice is a ragged growl that rakes down my spine, leaving fire in its wake. "Aren't you?" My breaths come faster as we stare each other down. The space between us shimmers with unseen sparks. Before I can respond, his mouth crashes onto mine in a searing kiss. Shock freezes me for an endless moment before I'm kissing him back fiercely, months of pent up tension exploding between us."

Sweet snuggle "London nestles against my chest, hat tossed on the table and head tucked under my chin. I breathe him in, the subtle scent of cedar and musk that's intrinsically him. He smells like winter. He smells like home. Fuck. "This okay?" London's voice rumbles against me. "Perfect," I assure him, fingers trailing up and down the warm skin of his back. He hums contentedly, the sound vibrating through me."

""We're dating," London says simply before I can force the words out. "And we wanted to be honest with you before rumors start flying or whatever." He shrugs like he's not hanging his heart out for these guys to stomp all over. "So... yeah. We're together." A beat of silence stretches, broken only by the hum of the air conditioning. Then Mateo lets out a whoop, grinning wide. "I knew it! Pay up, Eli." He holds out a hand and Eli slaps a twenty into it with a grumble. "You bet on this?" London asks, incredulous."

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

I am a sucker for a good hockey romance and this book has everything I love in a sports romance and then some. These guys are perfect together and have explosive chemistry. I totally fell in love with Riot and London and their journey to their HEA was so sweet. But it’s not all sweetness and fluff. There are some highly 🔥🔥🔥 scenes. I always love that passionate fist kiss in an enemies to lovers book and theirs was scorching! It appears to be the first in a series and the set up for the next book has me buzzing with excitement. So good!!

whew! I made it to the end

This book could have been good! But two stars because that’s how good the author made it.
These character’s love didn’t seem real or organic at all. It just was. The hockey games described were past rough to the point of brutal and were so glossed over that their only point in the story was to show how the MCs had each others back.
If you’ve never read Sarina Bowen, Rachel Reid, or Lauren Blakely, you might think this is a good “sports romance”.
Spoiler warning..
The story had a ton of things that just didn’t make sense to me. I don’t think there was ever a point where we’re told what year in college these guys are. Like, it was said that they’d played against each other for three years. So I’m thinking they’re seniors in the book but it’s not clear.. no mention of their last game or of next year, which is weird.
Also, they are in college.. there were a couple of mentions of them going to class and coming home, someone would have notes or books scattered about but the college part of this was lighter than the hockey part.
London transferred from his old school to Hollowgate. At one point he hears some girls gossiping about Hollowgate accepting a thug like him, who caused a serious injury to an old teammate during some kind of reckless play. We never hear what happened with that or his old team, beyond him telling Riot that there was blackmail and beatings and that’s all we ever hear about it. Oh, and, despite London and Riot playing against each other multiple times, after he transfers, there’s no mention of Hollowgate playing Ravensloft again.

Early in the book, Riot’s parents volunteer to host the team’s team building weekend at their mansion, where his dad promptly tells him to quit hockey. Sooo why invite the team there?

Later, Riot’s dad threatens to cut him off for being gay and playing hockey. Did he? We never find out.

London is debating not going home for Christmas because his mom lost her job and he doesn’t want to be another mouth to feed so he invites London to come with him. Maybe two extra mouths are better than one? Also, on the visit, London and Riot sleep on the couch together. In the next chapter, we find out it was a pull out couch. But for like ten pages or whatever, I’m completely flummoxed that these two 6ft plus, built hockey guys slept together for a week on a regular ole “thrift store couch”, because that’s what we’re told.

And, I had to look back to check but yeah, in chapter nine, London describes Riot’s hair as blond, like spun gold. So I think they’re both blond. But by the end of the book it’s his “signature black”, which matches their kid’s hair.
The writing was just crap.

I would have DNF this book at about 20% but I wanted to see what happened. We find out they win the big game but everything else is just kind of left out. I would for sure be angry if I had bought this book, instead of it being included in Kindle unlimited.

Disappointing

I hate to leave a bad review since I understand and appreciate how much hard work goes to every author's work but I couldn't sleep without doing so.

This book has some of my favorite tropes including:

Sports Rivals
Double Bi-awakening
Enemies to Lovers
Slow Burn (in theory)

The only one it has that I'm not a huge fan of is mistaken/hidden identity. And somehow this book took all of those and barely had it mean anything. The writing was so poor. Thoughts are repeated in back to back paragraphs 2 or 3 times in slightly different but eerily similar phrasing. Details from the beginning of the book are different or missing from the end. The very few buildups in the book are never paid off. Emotions change out of the blue with no on-text support or sometimes without even having context. Also, personally I'm not a fan of books being told in the present tense, makes things sound even more awkward in a lot of cases, including this one. And don't even get me started on the text message exchanges. How many 20 - 22 year olds text like that! Not to mention, we don't know how old they are, how many years of schooling they have left, or what either of them or anyone is majoring in.

Again, I appreciate the effort but this book was so disappointing I could not recommend it to anyone, not even die hard MM romance fans, unless they enjoy hate-reading something. Thank goodness for KU!

Happy Hunting!

Hockey, enemies to lovers, MM

had this book stuck in my head since I finished it 2 days ago. I don't always leave reviews unless a book is stuck in my brain and this one is for sure one of those.

The book is a hockey romance but it's also an MM Bi-awakening. Which made my little late in life bi-awakening heart so happy to read!

It's an enemies/rivals to lovers story and I absolutely loved it.

It follows 2 men who initially start out as rivals/enemies on separate college hockey teams. Riot is rich and arrogant and London is gritty and wrong side of town that has to learn to deal with rich snobs. London transfers to the university where Riot is and they have to learn how to be team mates after their rivalry, but the best part, London is also roomed with Riot! So they have to learn how to live with each other as well.

It starts out with so much anger towards each other and then turns to confusion about their feelings and then turns to obsession with each other.

The progression from enemies to lovers was so delicious to read and I'm tempted to do a reread even though I just read it!

The best part is there is no 2nd act breakup or anything of that sort. There was a small part where Riot kept something from London and London wasn't sure he could handle it but they got through it. I loved how they were 100% for and supported each other. They didn't let anything get in the way.

If you love hockey, enemies to lovers, and MM definitely give this book a go! If you've never read MM I still suggest giving this a go due to the Bi-awakening.

Also can never go wrong with a Heather Ashley book!

4 and half stars.
If you want fluff on a hockey enviroment this book is for you, after some medical "surprises" I was in kind of a sad mood but this book made me smile with how sweet it is, Riot and London are a couple of lovely MCs that will check all your M/M boxes if thats what you want. Rivals to lovers? check, spoiled child with shitty parent x poor boy with nice family? check, a nice group of friends with some tension not just only between MCs? check. This book is not trying to discover the black thread of hockey MM romance but just present those thropes on a sweet, low (almost none) angst story that got me interesed enough to finish it on one day.

Just your normal rivalry to lovers sport romance tbh. I think I’ve read so many over the years they all end up being the same to me 😭. It did start dragging a bit too as they basically sorted things out before the halfway point and then everything was stable from then. I hope Dex and Knight get a book - it seemed like there’s a lot of history there so excited for that!

The writing did need work at times, especially when describing the different characters because things kept changing and I was left confused. Also at points if it was in Riot’s POV half way through the chapter it’d suddenly be in London’s POV but then quickly change back to Riot’s?? Needs editing

such a great story!

I love enemies/rivals to lovers stories so much and this one is no exception. It was so fun reading about Riot and London trying to deal with each other as they kept getting tossed together. I also love when sport romances actually show the sports and I really enjoyed that this author wrote about the guys in practices and games. Huge plus. Once the guys decided to give up on disliking each other the romance was sweet and at times intense. All in all a wonderful story that I couldn’t put down.

This was a very good read. Nothing new, the enemies to lovers was sorted in a bit of a strange way and quite fast but somehow it worked. I think it may be because I just read a book from a very known series and I just kind of liked it and was even bored at times. When comparing, I just enjoyed this one way more, read it almost non stop and did not get bored.

This is one of those times where I loved the story , but unfortunately , the writing was lacking.
Especially the first half almost felt unedited. But still, a great story and the epilogues shot us into the future.

Fine, but some inconsistencies throughout the book, perhaps the author forgot what they had written before

❤️Thoughts❤️

I absolutely loved this story!

It has everything: from being enemies on and off the ice, to becoming roommates, and then grappling with unexpected feelings for each other. The connection between the two main characters is electric, and when they finally stop resisting it, the sparks fly and the steam is off the charts!

I don't want to spoil anything else, so read this now!
