If you are looking for super mafia-lite and don’t mind a rushed story with instalove, this one is for you. Sadly, it just didn’t hit the spot for me. The chemistry was decent but couldn’t make up for the lack of basically everything else.

It’s been a while since I read a Michelle Heard book, and this one qualified for the “spooky season” achievement in the kindle challenge for the season, so I took the plunge… and I liked it 😊.

Tori/Vittoria (23) lives in an abusive household. Her stepbrother has been beating her up since their parents died years before. He’s gotten better about hitting her in strategic places so that people don’t see the abuse anymore, but it’s constant and always happening ☹️. When she’s out at a restaurant, eating with her stepbrother, she goes to the restroom and witnesses Angelo (34) slashing a man’s throat. Before she can even attempt to run away, he goes after her, and that’s when he becomes enthralled by her 😅.

Angelo has been hounded by his aunt/uncle to get married, except they have a certain Sicilian/Italian woman in mind for him, one Angelo doesn’t care to even get to know. So when he finds himself captivated by his little deer (piccola cerviatta), he decides that he knows exactly how her stepbrother can pay off his debt to the Cosa Nostra…

By marrying Tori 👀 and she’s in for the surprise of a lifetime when she shows up to an event and it’s her wedding 😅

What I liked/loved: POSSIBLE SPOILERS
—how protective Angelo is 🥹. Sigh. Considering how scary he is, he takes the time to get to know his wife, to calm her down, to cherish her 🫶. He needs her to trust him, and he’s fine with letting her get used to him ❤️. She’s been abused long enough, so he’s gonna make sure she feels safe with him 😭🫶

—how sweet Angelo is with Tori 🫶. 🫠. Made me feel squishy inside 🥹❤️

—no kissing until I’m ready 👀. I luuuurved this 😈. Angelo has his work cut out for him 💅 it’s only fair 🤷🏻‍♀️. Kissing is an intimate act and Tori wants to only do it when she’s developed strong feelings for Angelo. When she finally does, it’s 🥵🔥

—the comeuppance 😈. This was 👏🏻 amazing 👏🏻. 💅. I’m so glad Angelo isn’t such a “good” guy, because some people need to suffer the consequences for being shady people 🤷🏻‍♀️. They don’t need all of their body parts to survive do they? 😅

—the 🔥. This is on the medium burn side (30% ish), so that was nice 😉. Angelo’s patient and very, ahem… GIVING 🥵 while making sure Tori’s ready 👀 before he takes her v, and taking her does 😉. He makes sure to make her feel as comfortable as possible ❤️

—he’s a hearty-breakfast eater 😉. I love me a man who loves eating breakfast 🥵 and he loves to eat 🔥

—buying her clothes and a phone ❤️. While this might seem insignificant, the way Tori appreciates it all and Angelo bulldozes warmed my heart 😅

—watching tv together 🥹. How cute that something as domestic as sitting together, talking, and watching tv made me get gooey lol

—the side characters 🫶. I looooved Tiny (who wasn’t tiny 🤣) and his romantic shows/movies knowledge and advice to Angelo 🤣. And then Big Rick was great at also giving advice lol and of course Rita was sweet too

—believing Tori’s innocence when the Sicilian drama happened ❤️

—cooking for him 😅. I feel ambivalent about this, but I’ll stick this to this side. Tori hasn’t been allowed to do much, so when she finds herself being able to cook for her hubby, I appreciated it ❤️. Plus, the way Angelo loves her cooking made it all better too

What I didn’t like: SPOILERS
—Angelo has three main businesses, and the one he’s at the MOST is the strip club 😐. I HATE this in my books 😐. Even though we don’t see him engage in watching these women, he’s there A LOT… and this is just brushed under the rug 😑. It’s not focused on, which is fine, but in the back of my head, every time he’s going to “the club” , he’s going there 😐. The thing is that he doesn’t ever clarify to Tori what he does here. In fact, WE don’t even know if he’s ever taken part of the “perk” of the “hell” part of his club (where anything goes with the strippers). He tells us that he has an active sex life, so who does he do this with?!?!?!? We don’t know 😐 but I have a suspicion he might partake in the indulgence his club offers 😵‍💫 and that’s just 🥴. Ugh

—considering how religious Tori is, I’m VERY surprised she NEVER asks him what he does at the club 🥴😵‍💫

—no safety talk 😑. Tori is a v, but he’s not. He’s had a healthy sex drive, so is he clean? When was the last time he was with anyone? Does he always use protection? In the middle of their wedding night, he removes the condom 😐, which is fine IF he has been clear about his cleanliness 🥴. He never tells us or the heroine. And because she’s so meek and subservient, she doesn’t ask or say anything 🤦🏻‍♀️. Sigh 😐

—The focus on her purity 😏. It’s good and bad. Good because it makes Angelo slow down and be sweet with her, which I luuurved, but bad because I wanted him to love other qualities about her. Being abused and a virgin isn’t the recipe to fall in love. As the book progresses, we see more of their relationship, but I wanted more here 😏

—the epilogue 😐. Two years later, she goes to the strip club, ignores the dancers on stage (🙄) and walks into the meeting room where Angelo is with his associates (who I’m assuming are gonna be the other heroines in future books) to tell him some good news. Why is Angelo STILL working so much at the club😵‍💫? I’m sorry. If I were Tori, I’d be INCREDIBLY bothered that my husband’s around so many naked women 🥴. And because she’s meek and submissive and on the quiet side, she doesn’t say anything 😐. Here’s where Angelo’s ‼️COMMON SENSE‼️ comes into play. Excuse me Angelo, why don’t you ask your wife how she feels about you working at a strip club that’s basically a brothel on-the-side to see how she feels 😐? She would NEVER say anything because she’s playing her dutiful-wife role 🙄, so ASK HER 😑🤦🏻‍♀️.
-Like I mentioned above, this ISN’T a focus of the plot, but I can’t ignore it either 🤷🏻‍♀️. What would’ve been swoony is if ANGELO, being the sweet, protective husband that he is, decided, ON HIS OWN, to maybe work there less… or maybe have a single associate be the main point of contact instead 😐. Sigh. It just sucked that that’s how the book ended and I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth (even though the reason why she goes to see him is a ❤️ one)

Overall, I loved a lot of aspects… but I disliked others as well 😐

Tori is unlike most of Michelle's FMC's, she is truly innocent and sheltered. It is however her innocence that attracts Angelo to her, the same Angelo who everyone refers to as the devil and is one of the leaders of Cosa Nostra. He is feared and nobody even wants to be around him longer than needed.

He plots and schemes to get her just for himself. Her initial fear of him is understood as their first meeting was plagued by violence. It’s a bit of a learning curve for both of them.

Her stepbrother also had a hand in her ending up with Angelo but not in the way he had hoped. His character was like a cockroach that just would not die. He truly was vile.

I will say that Angelo's trust in her was not expected as I had seen a different outcome concerning a particular scene/plot twist. That little reveal was shocking! I really did not see it coming, it made me sad for him.

Despite what the world thinks of Angelo aka the devil/evil, he showed her that he would never be that to her. He showed her protection and love.

We also get a glimpse into the potential MMC's of this new series, but nothing is yet revealed or announced!

Let me start by saying I love Ms. Heard's books and she's one of my go to mafia romance authors. However, this one just didn't do it for me. It's underwhelming and I'm so gutted how the story panned out. Maybe it's my fault too 'cause I've had high hopes for this new series.

The timeline of the whole book is technically two months. Tori saw Angelo kill someone, and she left an impression on him. Then, I think, two weeks passed after that, and he kept popping up wherever she went. He basically followed her everywhere because he decided she would be his wife. Then another two weeks passed before he forced her to marry him. And after that, the next month was them as a married couple and eventually falling in love.

The entirety of the book was based on lust and Angelo's obsession with Tori's virginity. Up to 38% of the book that was all he talks about and thinks about. Like how much he only wants her because of her innocence, or that no man has ever touched her, and how he is going to enjoy her. I almost DNF at this point, but for some reason I want to finish this story.

And I can honestly say it didn't get better. Tori became the perfect wife, cooking and caring for him. And when Angelo is not having any issues as a mafia head, he's a doting husband. But when it's a bad day, he will snap at her, then feel bad and guilty. He will eventually apologize for his behavior, and this happened on multiple occasions. Aside from the domesticity, of course there's the sex; they go at it like bunnies, and there was no emotional pull or even sexual tension in these scenes. 

The story was a letdown for me, and that could be a me case. I didn't enjoy it, and I didn't get over the fact that Angelo was only interested in Tori because her stupid stepbrother wanted to sell her virginity to him. He found her attractive obviously, but in the beginning, his only plan was to get his fill, and once he's done, he will discard her to some guy whom he will select for her to marry. I didn't like that he took her brutally during their wedding night when he knew she had never done it before. 

Then, when they finally dropped the love bomb, I was so stunned. I didn't understand how they fell in love; I didn't feel any connection between them, not even sexual tension, if I'm being honest. The only thing that I saw while reading their story was the never-ending lust Angelo had for Tori. 

Suffice to say, this isn't for me, and now that I'm done reading it, I can definitely say I should've dnf this earlier on.

Meh. It wasn't terrible, but it was definitely not good either. Honestly, I am not even sure it deserves a full two stars, but I've read worse, so here we are.

The FMC was easily the most frustrating part of this book. She was so annoyingly naive and so dense that I struggled to get through her chapters.
The MMC was thankfully not an immediate jerk or abusive towards the FMC (a rare plus in dark romance), but the way his character was written was still frustrating. He’s not morally grey at all, he’s a full black canvas.
And it wasn’t just him. The other four main characters, who are supposed to be the MMCs in the next books, were written the same way: all terrible in every possible sense. They were involved in money laundering, counterfeiting, illegal arms deals, strip clubs, gambling, and even shooting a man over two thousand dollars. You name it, and someone in this book has already done it. That’s honestly why I don’t think I’ll continue with the rest of the series.
And for the record, I normally have zero problems with mafia romances or morally grey men (the exact opposite actually). But in this book it felt so overdone and forced, almost like the author was ticking off a “mafia checklist” and trying too hard to prove how ruthless these men are (and not in a good way).

The pacing was another big issue for me. It was so slow and nothing was really happening, yet somehow they were saying 'I love you's after basically three seconds (I fucking hate insta-love). The back-and-forth between the slow plot and the rushed romance didn’t make any sense to me, and I ended up skimming a big part of the book just to avoid dnf-ing it.

And once again, I was tricked by tiktok into thinking this book would be good. It wasn’t, and I ended up disappointed. It’s been a while since I’ve read a dark romance I actually enjoyed, and sadly, this wasn’t it.

Quickie Review (May Contain Spoilers)

Tempted by the Devil was such a BLAST of a book. Man now this is what I love this author for. Sometimes she can be a hit or miss...BUT when she hits it really packs a punch and I can definitely say that was the case with "Tempted by the Devil" This is a setup where our heroine is being abused and the hero comes in on his dark white horse and being a bit of a protector. He arranges a marriage with her abusive step brother and thus begins a deep and tender marriage between them. I adored how protective he is of her and so careful of her heart. He can be a really hard man, but he is just right with her, not pushing her too hard especially with all the abuse that she has suffered and giving her a place of peace and love which she hasn't ever had. The crime aspects is a bit brutal in this one, fair warning, but the actual romance is tender hearted and poignant in so many ways. Definitely a book to be a keeper for any shelf.

If you are a fan of mafia romance, then I can't recommend Michelle Heard enough!

Angelo se interesa en Tori y el hermano de ella le vende su virginidad pero en cambio él se casa con ella.

Michelle Heard is one of my favourite mafia romance authors so my expectations were high. This story was good but not as good as previous books.
I enjoyed reading and liked the characters but the story was a little bit boring. The chemistry between Angelo and Tori was okay, but in my opinion she became the „perfect wife“ too fast. He forced her into marriage and she just accepts her fate.
Still a promising start into this new book series and I‘m excited to read about Angelos friends and how they will find their better half.

Angelo was one of the bosses of the New York underground. He was deadly, dangerous, and extremely sexy. He was everything that an innocent girl like Tori should fear. And she did. However, over time, she found that he was so much more than the man who would kill a guy over two thousand dollars. He was protective, kind, generous, and overwhelmingly loving of her. She saw the man behind the rep and he was everything she could have ever dreamed of.

There are elements of suspense and plenty of drama, but I enjoyed how all they did was draw this couple closer together. Angelo quickly found his heart with Tori and the author did a great job of mixing the mushy with the scary details.

I didn't know this was the first in a series of standalones, but I'm excited about it and I'm looking forward to reading the next book. Will I see Angelo again?

Tori is very innocent and shelter in this type of life she understands it since her stepbrother is a part of the life and abusive towards her. But she keeps her mouth shut since she's waiting until she turns 25 to collect her money and go far, far away. But the poor girl saw something she shouldn't have seen when she saw Angelo, one of the leaders, kill someone.

Angelo is already smitten by her and wants her. She doesn't know she's super innocent until he's more around her and gets a better image of her. So when her brother owes him and his other partner tons of money, he uses that to make sure Tori is his wife. He'll shower her and take care of her treat her like the queen she is.

No one messes with her, not her step-brother or anyone.

There is some drama that has Tori running away from Angelo. I'm glad he believed her and not the lie. We also see 2nd charas and can't wait for their stories.


Low angst, No ow/om drama, no cheating, secondary character, drama, sexy times, virgin gal and sorta manwhore (he talked about his past but nothing else)

I was completely hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put this book down! And when the twist hit, I was all in for it.

—marriage of convenience,
—forced marriage.
— opposite attract.
—cold hero x sweet biddable heroine.

Completely opposite to each other, Angelo the cold head of Cosa Nostra was completely smitten with Vittoria Romano from their first unexpected meeting.
Tori was such a kind soul. I loved her more than Angelo, who to be honest at times behaved like a Neanderthal. There were two dialogues of his that made me dislike him but as the story progressed I started liking him. He was never cruel to Tori and pretty impressively owned up to the fact that he loved her. I enjoyed his protectiveness.
There were also many good moments. But I loved the second half drama more.

Overall a compelling reading with medium angst and mind the TW.
Recommended.

Sweetheart fmc, I liked her. The mmc were fine-ish the last 50%, the first 50% would have been better if he had just stfu.

Kind of insta-love vibes from the mmc. Wattpad mafia vibes. I usually enjoy Michelle’s books but this was a miss for me.

I was pleasantly surprised, I expected mafia tangled up drama, got it but it was actually something that tugged on my heartstrings. It was a little off how the FMC reacted to everything the MC was doing but growing up in that life it was normal for her….. so I expected a little more turmoil but I’m glad it didn’t go that dark. I loved the Italy scene, that was whoa no way! Spice was pretty d@mn good too.

I absolutely loved this book!! It was such an easy read, fast-paced, and like no drama.
In the beginning, Tori was ofc scared of Angelo, and I was prepared for it. I have to admit it did get annoying at times, but it was reasonable. When she finally gained confidence, it wasn't too far into the book, which I absolutely loved. The pacing, the storyline, the characters, and the tropes, I literally loved everything about this book.
And of course, I absolutely loved that this book had an epilogue!! ❤️❤️
I can read so many of these kinds of books with the same writing style, tropes, and storyline and still absolutely love love love it - so if anyone has any recommendations I would love it if you could tell me a few 🌼
I hope the next books in the series are just as good!! 🙏🙏

P.S. I fall in love with books where the characters have nicknames for each other, and this one did not disappoint. My little dear, ugh, beautiful 🦌 My sunshine, loved ☀️ My devil, gorgeous 🖤

Головний герой весь такий крутий мафіозник, але з нею поводиться як рицар. Терплячий, турботливий, вірний, надійний

І все в них так харашо складається, рівненько, без драм, істерик і закохалися на раз, два і вона вже їх сім'єю своєю вважає і все так солодко і ванільно, що прям не магу (Кохання до гроба за 3 тижні) Ото тільки вкінці трохи навалили крінжі, щоб життя медом не здавалося😂

В цілому, це було непогано, але мені не вистачило емоцій. Це було просто добре

This sounded like a wattpad mafia book. I swear its the writing like read the quotes and you'll get what I mean.
I got so bored with this book. And I love Michelle Heards mafia books but this was not it. A big red flag was when the other 4 in the five families of this series became more interesting than him. And they didn't even have that much screen time.
Meaning.. don't mess up my men Renzo, Falco, Dario and Damiano's book.

Idk you tell me her day wasn't really the best. You FORCED her to marry you, told her the deal her abusive brother made where she has to sleep with you and then get sold off to marry to some other guy. Basically he said be thankful I married you. It's been some time since I delved into Michelle Heard's books. I've had the pleasure of reading three of her series, and now I've added a fourth. Her writing never fails to impress me, and she has become one of my go-to authors for comforting reads. Whenever I'm in the mood for a gripping mafia romance, I know I can rely on her books to deliver. Once again, I found myself engrossed in the fast-paced narrative, complete with thrilling action and heart-melting moments.

Vittoria, a young woman who comes from a mafia family, has been protected and sheltered for most of her life. She was raised by loving parents until they tragically passed away in an accident. Now, she lives with her stepbrother, who inflicts emotional and physical harm on her nearly every day. Her brother is in debt to Angelo, and to settle the debt, he offers Tori's innocence to Angelo. However, when Angelo meets Tori, he becomes enamored with her and decides that he wants to marry her instead.

“If she marries me, she’ll have a fucking castle and everything her heart desires.”

Angelo is one of the capos of the Cosa Nostra, where he is known for his ruthlessness. He is notorious for never granting second chances to those who defy him, striking fear into the hearts of all who know him. His reputation is so fearsome that he is often referred to as "the devil" by those around him. However, how he treats Tori is different from how he treats everyone else. He is very protective and considerate of her. He's mindful not to push her too much, especially considering the trauma she has endured. He provides her with a sense of tranquility and affection that she has never experienced before.

I was genuinely surprised by the plot twist at the end of the book, but I still found it very enjoyable. I've always had a soft spot for stories about tough mafia men who are feared by everyone, but show their softer side when it comes to their women. This book delivers on that front, and I'm very satisfied. I would suggest this book to anyone looking for a light mafia romance read.

i just absolutely love how the head of the mafia fall head over heels in love with their woman and basically become a teddy bear entirely for them. this one was such a fun + fast paced story, full rtc!!
