“It won’t last. It never does. Once the novelty of banging your mother wears off, my father will ditch her and you’ll be gone. So don’t get too comfortable sweetheart.”
Horrid. Rude, arrogant, and abrasive, my new stepbrother is a monster.
Jet black hair, typical bad boy looks and over six feet tall with a body packed with muscle and menace; Jaxon Savage is every girl's wet dream. Savage by name, Savage by nature. This rich and entitled brute has made himself my tormentor and I hate him, so why is my body so affected by his presence?
Jaxon is a threat to my sweet mother’s happiness and I will fight him every step of the way. He wants to break me and bring me to my knees but it will be a cold day in hell before I ever let that happen. Jaxon may rule my body, but he will never rule my heart.
He doesn’t know it yet, but I have a few tricks of my own.
SAVAGE noun
a brutal or savage person
Raven-haired beauty Wynter Hart may look like a delicate flower but years of looking out for her hopeless romantic mother has made her strong. Being a bookworm, she is believed to be shy and understated but there is fire under the surface; an inferno her new stepbrother is determined to ignite.
Jaxon has spent years fine-tuning his obnoxious side. His father’s disastrous love life has resulted in his suspicion of potential gold-diggers and their ridiculously attractive daughters. Having been sent away to military school to deal with his anger management issues, Jaxon comes home, tougher, meaner, and determined to make everyone pay for his tormented past.
Judging a book by its cover is never plain sailing, a mistake both are guilty of making. Jaxon and Wynter will need to scratch beneath the surface to unearth the root of their misunderstanding.
Can Wynter tame the beast that is Jaxon, or will their relationship continue to spiral towards that place which is dark, raw, and most of all, recklessly savage…
SAVAGE CAN BE READ AS A STAND-ALONE BOOK BUT IS BETTER READ IN SERIES ORDER
Notes from the Author: This story contains flawed characters; a strong, controlling alpha-hole male and a quirky gives-as-good-as-she-gets female. The theme of this book is a stepbrother romance, enemies to lovers with bullying elements. Contains material some may find triggering but any sexual content is consensual 18+.
Will Jaxon manage to curb his stubborn resentment and redeem himself during this journey? There's only one way to find out...
Love in Norfolk Series
BOOK ONE, Boundaries (Mason and Amy’s Story) BOOK TWO, Fallen (Nixon and Jenna’s Story) BOOK THREE, Savage (Jaxon and Wynter’s Story)
This romance novel held my interest easily. I didn’t particularly care for Jaxon because he was overly mean and never really redeemed himself. I liked Wynter but she put up with a lot of crap. As for the taboo aspect it was great and was a secondary theme. My favorite scenes were the intense heated fights. The interactions between Jaxon and Wynter were great.
This one wasn't for me. Everything felt flat and bland and Wynter annoyed me (Wynter Hart? Seriously, that's the name we went with?)
PLOT: Wynter grew up in an abusive household where her mom was regularly mistreated. Her mother moves them into her new (super rich) paramour's house and thing aren't going smoothly. He mom's new husband has kids of his own (her stepbrothers and a sometimes there step sister from a previous wife) and they aren't getting along great plus she's kind of got a thing for her abrasive step bro who thinks she and her mom are gold diggers taking advantage of his dad.
THOUGHTS: - This had potential, like most of these tropes it can be a little flat and boring and the characters can be a little bit stereotypical. There's barely any story and I didn't care about them getting together. Plus I was confused about the ages of everyone involved and that whole base interview thing was boring and made no sense. (She's a teenager, but he's been in the army? How old is everyone?)
- Wynter bored me and Jaxon was (let's be honest) a huge dick. Like I get it, he's supposed to rub her the wrong way so there's a conflict, but he was downright rude and crude to her. I hate the whole "be mean to the girl you like" trope and it's tired. Plus they had literally NOTHING in common and there was no chemistry.
- It annoyed me that her mom was being all protective and warning her about hooking up with her step bro, like come on, you moved your daughter from her grandma's house to a house full of animosity and 2 hormonal guys and you're surprised things may go astray. I get it, the mom wants to be happy but it seems really dumb to put her daughter in jeopardy / change up her life so much, especially for a rich guy whose been married like 4 times.
- The whole kinda cheating thing wasn't cool with me. When Wynter knew she didn't want her boyfriend she should have just broken up with him.
- the smut was seriously lacking and not worth it. Most of us read these books for that so to slog though page after page of nothingness for mediocre coupling that takes forever to happen was not great.
This really has the potential to become five Stars, there is some inconsistency in the book but I can overlook that and continue, but overall thought it was pretty good. Has got a good plot-line character development.
My favorite trope, step brother romance. I love her innocence and his bad boy nature and how they push one another buttons. Love this whole world... this was great and I'm eager for more
Enemies to lovers! If you love alpha-hole men and feisty women that hold their own, this is the book for you! Loads of angst between the MFC and the MMC with plenty of laugh out loud banter. The MFC's comments towards her annoying stepbrother had me cracking up throughout the story. There is a backstory to the plot which revealed itself bit by bit, but this is very much a character driven story that concentrates on the relationship between the two leads.
Loads of chemistry between Wynter and Jaxon, although at times, he is borderline cruel and needs a good slap. True escapism at its best with Jaxon redeeming himself towards the end. Easy to read and does what it says on the tin. Sex scenes are well written and not over the top.
This is a BULLY romance with the usual tropes that entails.
