I was born in Teesside but now live in Scarborough on the stunning North Yorkshire Coast. My home inspired the creation of the fictional seaside town of Whitsborough Bay where I set many of my books although the Hedgehog Hollow series takes readers to a gorgeous new countryside setting in the Yorkshire Wolds.

I live with my husband, our teenage daughter and sprocker spaniel, Ella. I'm a self-confessed stationery addict with a ridiculously large collection of notepads who loves chocolate (although it doesn't love me), hedgehogs, 80s music, collectible teddy bears and lighthouses.

Other than a career detour into retail to set up and run my own teddy bear shop (the inspiration for novel Bear With Me), I've always worked in HR, specialising in resourcing, coaching and L&D. Writing always had to take a back seat to the day job until June 2020 when I left the world of HR to become a full-time author. I'm so very grateful to anyone who has bought or borrowed my books in whatever format, helping me fulfil a long-held dream of writing full-time. I still can't believe I get to spend every day chatting to my fictional friends and making stuff up.

My Review:

I’ve binge-read three books in a row of this beguiling series and would gladly keep going until the great dirt nap as this author has definitely hit her stride with these engaging and poignantly written tales. She has consistently managed to achieve a perfect emotional tone and balance between amusing humor, evocative insights, intriguing revelations, family drama, personal conflict, interesting factoids, and instructive and perceptive observations. I have delighted in the refreshingly angst-free romance between the “badass hedgehog saviour” and the super vet as well as the lessons I’ve obtained while they tend to their adorable “hogspital” patients and fractured families.

This tale involved diverse as well as realistically tragic storylines of abuse and neglect, which were deftly and skillfully handled with thoughtful sensitivity. Jessica Redland continues to entice, impress, awe, and wow me with her wordcraft, as her emotive phrasing taps each end of the emotional spectrum with an understated elegance that avoids even approaching an exaggerated or over-the-top level of drama. I covet her mad skills!

*Family Dramas*

**4.5 Stars**

Things never seem to run without chaos and drama for Samantha, but she keeps on smiling. She never stops and it is starting to take its toll on her in the form of panic attacks. This is all thanks to the estranged family of the previous owner Gwendoline affectionately known as the Hedgehog Lady who sadly never lived to build the rescue centre. Thomas her widower left Samantha the task of fulfilling their wishes. The Grimes are hellbent causing her grief

Samantha goes out of her way to show kindness to all. She has a complicated relationship with her mother and we found out why in previous books but will they ever have a relationship?

Samantha has found her forever person in Josh and they are planning their nuptials. Is this finally her time when everything aligns? Of course not a shy nervous student Phoebe is taken on to do the accounts. Samantha cannot fathom why she cannot get through to Phoebe as she is a closed book. The clue is when finds out her surname Grimes!!!

Sam checks her bank having become complacent because her random checks have been excellent, well £30K is missing, has Phoebe been working with the Grimes or is the real reason so much darker?….

Another great read from this author continuing the series about Hedgehog Hollow. Some of it was a little sad reading about children being treated badly but, as we all know it unfortunately does go on in the world with regularity. Apart from that I loved this story as much as they others and look forward to more in this series in the future. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I must say I am really enjoying this series about the rescue hedgehogs. The author has done extensive research on the rescuing and feeding of hedgehogs and I even suggest you read the wonderful care tips in the back of this book. I have enjoyed the other books in this hedgehog series and we finally get to see a sweet wedding in this one. Loved the descriptions and setting of the wedding as well.
The characters are well developed and the series just flows from one book to the next effortlessly.
I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Welcome Bauble, Tinky-winky, Mrs Pricklypants and many more…

No, my review title does not mean I have gone mad! Those are merely just a few hedgehogs we meet in this next book at Hedgehog Hollow. This is a series I have grown to love and I cannot wait for the fifth book to be released (I think I said that at my last review too!).

Out of all the books in the series, I think this is the darkest but equally featuring the most hedgehogs. I love the anticipation of what the new residents will be called when they arrive at Hedgehog Hollow and I think this adds to the fun element of the story. After all, the plot centres on these little creatures and this is what brings Samantha and all her friends and family together. Fans of the previous books will not be disappointed with the christenings in this story.

Whilst I describe this novel as being ‘the darkest’, it is no way a criticism of the story. Book four, and you start to wonder how a writer can keep the plot fresh and original. I think this is why Redland moves away from centring so much on Samantha and instead on Phoebe, a volunteer accountant at Hedgehog Hollow. Her character is surrounded by the infamous Grimes family who readers of previous books will recognise a Samantha’s nemesis. The story starts immediately where it finished from the last novel, so it is definitely a good idea to have read the predecessors before commencing this one.

Phoebe’s story is a saddening, emotional one, one of the saddest stories by far in the series. The way her circumstances are portrayed is a heart-puller and one that I think is uncomfortably more common than we necessarily realise. I was surprised at the direction that Redland took this story but I think this made the novel all the more interesting and varied as a result. Indeed, the development of Phoebe’s narrative reflects Redland’s talents as a writer and, despite it being a rather sobering story, made me even more engrossed with the book. I think it was because I knew that Samantha and Hedgehog Hollow would provide the sanctuary it has offered to so many in the past.

The farmhouse at Hedgehog Hollow remains fit to bursting. I love the energy and support that Samantha has around her and I think the farmhouse is symbolic of the happy endings that readers have found in the past books. It is such an idyllic setting and completely fitting that Samantha and Josh hold their wedding ceremony there. With a nod to its founders, Gwendoline and Thomas, the wedding at the closing of the book is not just a celebration of love between such lovely characters, but also honouring all those who have helped the hedgehog residents along the way.

Once again, Redland has produced a fantastic, satisfying read that I felt sad to finish at the final chapter. It is definitely a series to start from the beginning, especially as so many concepts are carried forwards from previous books. I love that there is such a close knit community in this book and think that the story is a great example of how people from so many different backgrounds can come together in shared harmony… even if one of the people is someone stroppy like Chloe!

Such a great series and another great book. Surprised at where this story went, I can’t wait to see what Redland puts together for next time – plus further hedgehog names!

With thanks to Boldwood Books, NetGalley and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the fourth title in the Hedgehog Hollow series, and once again, Jessica Redland has introduced us to complex characters with baggage to sort through, cute hedgehogs needing help, and Samantha's family and friends to help everyone out. Before I begin my review, I want to say that I recommend you read this series in order. There is a good recap at the beginning of the book, but to totally understand the characters and to really enjoy the series to its fullest, I still think you should read them all in order. So, now about the story. At the end of the last book, Sam discovers that the bank account for the hedgehog rescue has been cleared out. Her first suspect it Phoebe, the volunteer bookkeeper who Sam discovers is related to the Grimes family. In this story we learn about Phoebe's past and how she has been treated along with her little cousin. Police get involved, the Grimes' family is once again in trouble and Sam is once again stepping up to help someone else. Oh yes, Sam and Josh do finally get married in this one.

What I love about Jessica's writing is that problems and issues are handled in an h0nest, understandable way without making it graphic. The emotion that this book carries and evokes in the reader is amazing. Sam is such an amazing character. With everything that has happened to her in the past, she continues to show huge amounts of compassion for others and has limitless understanding and forgiveness. She looks beyond what seems to be obvious to others and finds the real person underneath. We meet several new characters in this story, who I hope we will see again in the next books. I don't want to give the story away, so am not going to say much more about it. This is not an easy chick-lit story like the cover might lead to believe. It tackles some tough issues such as drugs, physical abuse, prostitution, depression, attempted suicide, grief, and more. I recommend you have tissues nearby when you pick this one up. I can't wait to see what is next for our friends at Hedgehog Hollow. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.

Another fab instalment in the Hedgehog Hollow series. I absolutely love these books. It’s so interesting reading about how the hedgehogs are looked after and treated once they’ve been rescued and of course, all the family drama that goes with it. Loved the wedding, as cheesy as it was. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Was a joyous way to spend a Sunday afternoon, completely absorbed by the latest Hedgehog Hollow book. I head been eager to read this from the second I put down book three, and one of the few disadvantages of reading an advance copy a day or so after it is made available is it means that I will now have an even, even longer wait for book 5... which I am now impatient for.

Well I just love this series so much, and once again Jessica Redland has managed to mix some tough serious storylines, with some lovely light hearted moments. You go from feeling utterly angry at some points to laughing and smiling a few pages later, and it just works.

This is not just the latest in what happens to Sam at the Hollow and all the latest hogs being rescued, although we do learn a lot about the Autumn juveniles. We are also treated to Phoebe's story.

Phoebe is the young work experience accountant that does the Hollow's accounts, but turns out she is hiding things. We get chapters from her point of view alternating with Sam's (always with a character heading at the start of the chapter so easy to follow), and for all of her 18 years, what a horrible time she has been having.

And I use the word horrible as a slight understatement, it's truly awful, and the more we learn about her family the more angry I was becoming at how she has been treated.

Once again Sam shows huge amounts of compassion for someone and is able to see past the obvious negatives and has great bounds for forgiveness and understanding.

It was lovely to see how Sam's life has been going since the previous book, and for her story to move on too, and I just loved it all.

I've been completely hooked for the past 3 and a bit hours on every last word of this book, completely enjoying every moment and not wanting it to ever end. I absolutely adore this series so much, and it keeps going from strength to strength.

Jessica Redland is a phenomenal author and my only complaint is that she doesn't write fast enough for super fans like me, as I always want more the second I've finished, and then have to wait for books to be written!

Filled with hedgehogs, children, a tough storyline that may be triggering for some, an overall heartwarming and welcoming feeling - my word it was wonderful to be back at Hedgehog Hollow.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Jessica Redland never disappoints with her books, I'm always hooked and struggle to put these down (maybe I shouldn't mention that this kept me reading till 2am and then sleeping straight through my alarm the next morning?) I was extra intrigued by this book because we finish book 3 on a massive cliffhanger. I'll not spoil it but I would recommend reading the other books before this one as I sets the scene and explains things more if you are aware of the back story.

The first couple of chapters actually go slightly back in time from the cliffhanger which did catch me off guard at first but you don’t have to read much to catch back up and I think Samantha’s finding is just as shocking the second time around. I really couldn’t see Phoebe being behind the event but I could see that she had been coerced into it by her family and I really thought that this was the way the book was going to go.

Turns out I was rather wrong and I was shocked when we found out the truth, it’s safe to say there’s a lot more to Phoebe than meets the eye! The love and care she shows for Darcie is so strong and you can tell how much she loves that girl and that she’d protect her if it was the last thing she did.

I also loved watched Phoebe and Fizz’s friendship grow, they’re both such lovely characters and you know they’ll support Sam and the hedgehogs for a while yet - or at least I hope anyway!

Now I’ve just got a few more months to wait for the next instalment in Hedgehog Hollow - if I’m right in assuming there is one?

The cliff hanger ending of the previous book left me eager to see
Just who took the money, could it really be Phoebe?

There are heartbreaking threads running through
Making this a highly emotive read, it's true.
But through it all there's a wonderful sense of romance
And of survivors being given a better chance.

There are great characters and learning their histories
Helps you understand and solve some of the mysteries.
It also develops awareness of what others may be going through
And that's something we all need to think about, too.

This is such a moving story of healing and more
Moving on to a new future that's brighter than before.
Whilst things don't always go as you expect them to,
It is a brilliant read for me and for you.

For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
I throughly enjoyed reading it and this is my honest review.

I hadn't read the previous instalments of the series when I started this book. It can be easily read as a stand alone, but just reading "The story so far" right at the beginning of the book, I was too intrigued to know more about it and bought the previuos three books which I read in less than a week in a Hedgehog Hollow frenzy (I even listened to the audiobooks on Spotify, give it a try, they're worth it!)
So, yes, I would suggest to read them all, not because it is necessary to understand what's going on in this one, but only for sheer pleasure.
I absolutely loved Phoebe and Darcie, their story really touched my heart. Thank you Jessica for another fabulous read!

A Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow has been my first dive into the Hedgehog Hollow series—what a journey! I was hesitant at first, given my lack of knowledge about the previous installments, but Redland eased me in with a quick recap and then proceeded to spin an interesting tale based on love, second chances, and hedgehogs.

Thanks #NetGalley @BoldwoodBooks for a complimentary eARC of #AWeddingAtHedgehogHollow upon my request. All opinions are my own.

A long-awaited wedding…….

As Samantha prepares to marry Josh, she discovers that someone has hacked into her bank account and emptied it. Is the future of Hedgehog Hollow in jeopardy? Will she be able to afford the wedding?

In this installment, we become acquainted with Phoebe who is desperate to escape her abusive family, infamously known for their attacks on Samantha’s beloved rescue centre. Does the recent bank fraud have anything to do with her family?

A Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow is the 4th in the Hedgehog Hollow series. Although it can be read as a stand alone, a series is always best when read in order (in my opinion).

One reason I enjoy this series is for the friendly tone of the writing. The books are easy reading and the stories are engaging from the first page. Although some of the themes are heavy, they are balanced with lighter and happier ones. I appreciate the closed door romance and no offensive language in the stories. I think this series is difficult to pin down to a specific genre. It’s certainly women’s fiction because the storylines and themes are mostly focused on the concerns of women and female characters. Some readers might categorize this as “uplit” because the stories end up on a hopeful note and compassion, connection, caring for others, and kindness are always strong themes. In each of the stories though, there is always one heavy hitting theme. In this recent installment, there is a particularly difficult theme of child abuse and child endangerment.

At the center of each story is wise and insightful Samantha (Sam) who is a hedgehog rescuer, a loyal and understanding friend, a helper, a determined problem solver, and an all-around kind, generous, and compassionate person. I love her and her character keeps me invested in the series.

***contains spoilers***
In all the stories, there are general themes of family loyalty, friendship, second chances, compassion, and kindness. In each story there is at least one hard hitting theme. In A Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow, there is child abuse and child endangerment. They can be uncomfortable passages to read but they are not overly graphic. Most of these scenes are told as backstory and could be easily skipped or scanned. You can always trust Jessica Redland to resolve all the issues in an HEA (happily ever after or happy for now) ending (in this case “found family”).

I’m recommending A Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow for readers who enjoy women’s fiction with substantial themes, for fans of animal rescue, and for those who appreciate an inspirational and likable main character.

I love Jessica Redland's writing and this latest instalment of the delightful Hedgehog Hollow series didn't disappoint as hedgehog rescuer, Sam, shows us that the most important things are kindness, generosity and forgiveness.
In this story we learn about eighteen year old Phoebe and the truth behind the life she leads with the dreadful Grimes family. The storyline pulled at my heartstrings and had me racing to the end to find out if brave Phoebe got the ending she deserved. This novel also deals with the past of Sam's mother and the journey they both take to try to move forwards.
I loved learning about hedgehog care and felt sucked in by the characters of this cosy, addictive read.
The ending also left me with some tantalising questions.
A page-turning, uplifting read from beginning to end, I'm sorry I've finished.

Tillsammans med eleverna har jag och min kollega Sofia tragglat novellanalys nu veckorna innan lovet. In medias res, tema, motiv.

A WEDDING AT HEDGEHOG HOLLOW by JESSICA REDLAND.

This is book four in the Hedgehog Hollow series. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the previous three books as there is a very comprehensive catch up at the beginning of this book that will easily bring you up to speed. That said, if you haven’t read the previous three books in the series, then why not? You’ve missed a real treat, I’d seriously encourage you to read them all.

So, to book four, A Wedding At Hedgehog Hollow. Where do I start?
Well first things first, this book is sporting a beautiful cover, that will call to you from the shelves and jump into your basket.

This book picks up Just before the ‘cliffhanger’ from book three. Christmas is coming and everything is running smoothly at Hedgehog Hollow. Following the festivities, Samantha, the owner of Hedgehog Hollow makes a shocking discovery, that puts the future of the rescue centre in doubt.
Samantha also has her upcoming wedding to fiance Josh to look forward to, but with Samantha’s discovery throwing shade on everything, can the wedding go ahead as planned.

Phoebe has been volunteering at Hedgehog Hollow. As an accountancy student, she has been helping to secure grants and take care of the rescue centre’s finances.
Phoebe has her own secrets to hide that could jeopardise her valuable work experience at Hedgehog Hollow.

This book is largely Phoebe’s story. With both of her parents dead, she is left in the care of her stepmother. Tina is a vile character, who along with the rest of her family, have their own connection to Hedgehog Hollow.

This story is full of light and shade.
Parts of it I found absolutely heartbreaking. I felt dread in my stomach at what might happen next. Jessica Redlands raw writing packs a hefty punch with it’s brutal descriptions that will tear at your heartstrings and leave you feeling broken for the awful things happening to the most vulnerable and beautiful characters.
Then we have the lighter moments. The love, the strong sense of family and community, positivity, hope, courage, romance, forgiveness, justice and second chances at life.
As much as I found parts of this book a tough read, I was also uplifted and found much of the story truly heartwarming.

I loved the characters in this story. Samantha is strong, kind and caring, while still dealing with her own demons.
Phoebe is so damaged, but strong and resilient. She’ll do anything to protect the people she loves.
Little Darcie is adorable. The sweetest little unicorn lover you’ll ever read about.

This book is a solid, action-packed, page-turner.
Having read all of Jessica’s books, I feel confident in saying that this really is her best work yet.
I cried, I laughed, I felt the hurt and pain that some of the characters went through, and I was also filled with the warm and fuzzies when the good stuff happened. A real rollercoaster ride of a book.

By the end, this story is tied up beautifully, but we are left with a few teasers that will hopefully lead us into book five of the series.

I should say as well that this book is full of Hedgehogs! All credit to Jessica for the work that has clearly gone into making sure that what she has written in relation to the Hedgehogs and their care is accurate and educational to the reader.

So to sum up... This book will break you. Then it will pick you back up and fill your heart with love and hope.

A gripping read, filled with the power of love and some adorable Hedgehogs.
Five outstanding stars.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This story is part 4 of the Hedgehog Hollow series but can be read as a stand alone.. although... why would you NOT want to read the rest of the series?? They are amazing!

This starts off with Samantha and Josh planning their wedding, after Sam has been through some tough times (see previous books)! She has some struggles to deal with.
2 people come into her life connected to her past, this is a story of hurt, sadness, hope and happiness.
It has everything you need from a good book and so much more.
If you like chick lit or women's fiction but love a bit more substance to it then this is a book for you!
It had me feeling every emotion from anger, frustration, sadness and hopelessness to happiness, contentment, relief and love!
No one can say this isn't a rollercoaster of a read! It definitely is and it's definitely one worth reading. Thank you Jessica for doing it again. Perfection on paper
Thank you

Brilliant, this was just what I needed. I absolutely adored Hedgehog Hollow. I have listened to all of the others in the series on audio but I honestly could not wait for audio to find out what happens next. The last book kept me hanging, so I had to read this one and I did so in one sitting it was so, so good!

Samantha runs a Hedgehog rescue centre, which started off as someone else's dream and she is determined to make it a success, even though she has had some major hurdles to get over and this one seems like the biggest hurdle of all. I really did feel for her as she has been through tough times, but I also admired her as she could always see the positives in people and situations that most people would give up on. I can't believe how much I have learned about hedgehogs from reading this fabulous series. Of course, there is a lot more going on in Samantha's life than the hedgehogs. I loved Samantha and all of the characters, they were an amazing bunch and I got a lovely feeling of friendship, love and support from them all.

If you haven't read any of the Hedgehog Hollow series, then I urge you to do so, it really is a fabulous series that I can't recommend enough. I will also be listening to this when it comes out on audio and will be one-clicking the next in the series without hesitation.

This story follows Samantha, who owns a hedgehog rescue centre, and Phoebe who is doing work experience there while studying to become an accountant. We also meet Samantha’s fiancé (the wedding in the title is Samantha and Josh) and various family members and friends. It is a lovely community and we soon come to know them all and care about them.
This is the fourth book in the Hedgehog Hollow series and I wish I had read the first three before, so I knew everyone better and had followed their stories in chronological order, though I managed well enough reading this as a standalone.
I absolutely LOVED the characters, they are all so vivid and realistic. I ended up becoming so annoyed with two of the characters, that I was getting rather cross at their actions and had to take a break! That’s how realistic they are. (Tina and Jenny, look out for them!)
The hedgehogs are also adorable additions to the story and I felt I learnt a lot about them while reading it. There’s also some information about them at the end of the book, which is worth your time too.
It’s an easy novel to get into and I read it over two or three days, because I felt invested in the story and wanted (needed!) to know what was going to happen. I would definitely read more of her books.

A Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow is the 4th book in the Hedgehog Hollow series. If you have not read three previous books, so it would be better to read them first in order.
As for me, I haven't read the first books, but that didn't stop me from falling in love with the book. After reading this amazing book, I wish to read them all of the series, to know more about the characters and hedgehogs.
I enjoyed reading this book and so happy to add Jessica Redland in the list of my favourite authors. The book is brilliant and unputdownable.
I will highly recommend Hedgehog Hollow series and this book in particularto everyone who loves well-written beautiful stories.
Thank you Jessica Redland, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!

I am loving this series and this wonderful story did not disappoint, after the ending of the last book I was left desperate to know what was going to come next and this book plunges straight back into the story.

I loved that this time we got to spend time with Phoebe the quiet accountant and get to know her and her family, this story kept me keen to keep reading as I felt a real empathy towards Phoebe and little Darci as we came to understand more about their family set up and how important the role at Hedgehog Hollow really is to Phoebe.

Jessica Redland has a wonderful way with words and has quickly become a firm favourite as an author for me to pick up, especially when I need a little distraction. Her books are like receiving a hug and they always leave me either feeling warm and fuzzy.

If you are looking for some ultimate distraction, definitely read this series they are truly wonderful and the hedgehogs are simply wonderful to learn about.

What a lovely book it was an honour and privilege to be able to read an arc in exchange for an honest review for netgalley. Sam and Josh and their lovely hedgehog retreat are still being horribly targeted relentlessly by the Grimes family.
This story unpicks just how horrible evil the family actually are.
Sam and Josh work together through their troubles and they are kind and decent and help those around them when they can.
The story of Darcy and Phebe is so sad and I’m so glad they have the hedgehog hollow and m it’s a inhabitants both human and hoggy to support them through it.
Sam’s growing stronger with each book and that’s lovely to read.
