I feel so mixed on this book. TBH I almost DNFed it at the beginning just because I thought it was moving kinda slow. BUT I’m so glad I finished it because I LOVED the last third. By the end, we get such a deeper view of the characters and the author touches on a lot of heavier topics like mental health, difficult relationships with family members, how hard long distance relationships can be, and what a big transition it is going from high school to college.
I don’t think this sequel is a must read BUT if you’re a huge fan of book 1 and/or if the topics above interest you then this book is worth reading!

edit: HELP I JUST WROTE THAT OUT AND THEN FLIPPED THE PAGE TO FIND ANOTHER EPILOGUE. my only complaint with it is that I WANTED TO SEE THE ACTUAL THING PLAY OUT IN THE END
the ending felt so cute but bittersweet 😭 I love these two so much. this book was definitely a lot different than the first, which was bound to happen since this is a sequel to one of my favorite rom-coms, but it was still very enjoyable

He steps closer, licking the pad of this thumb before gently swiping it beneath my eyes, his other fingertips delicately balanced on my cheek. It is such a small, kind gesture that it renders me speechless for a moment, and I think I might start crying again. It's starting to seem likely that one day I'll run out of words to describe how much I love him.

These two are so cute, and I'm so glad that Rachel decided to come back to them.
My favorite part would have to be Neil's POV. He's such a sweetheart and I loved seeing how much he just absolutely adored Rowan and then seeing him navigate being on his own. I know Rowan was doing the same, but I think this was more of a departure for Neil and his personality and I just wanted to hug him the whole time.
This ended up being heavier than I was expecting. Obviously, these two are going to college in two different states so there's the challenges that come with long distance relationships, but then we see struggles with mental health/depression, and it was so heartbreaking.
So I'm split on how I feel about this one, mostly because of my personal feelings and what I was hoping this would be. On one hand, I was really hoping for a more lighthearted read and just seeing these two navigate the distance like the bosses they are, but on the other I really appreciate the representative of mental health struggles and I related a lot to what was being felt.
So I landed at 4.25 stars, and I still really enjoyed seeing these two again. Would absolutely recommend for anyone who was a fan of the first book.

this book… yeah it’s phenomenal
i’m so emotional because rowan and neil mean so much to me and although i never expected a sequel, this was PERFECT! a gift truly. i love love loveee rachel lynn solomon. she’s just heaven sent in the reader space and writing this book just solidifies that.
this book explores rowan and neil in college, still very much in love (thank goodness) and navigating college. and i really appreciate how real it felt with the feeling of not being completely comfortable right away and just the awkwardness of going to a new school in a town you’ve never known before. i 100% related to that my college experience was very similar to neil’s! and everything that neil went through internally was also very relatable to me. i found myself nodding, and tearing up during his scenes with self discovery of his mental health.
rowan is my princess, and her experience also mirrored mine in more ways that one. i just loved reading in her POV and getting inside her mind. the text messages between rowan and neil were some of my favorite moments in the books. they’re just everything.
and that epilogue:,) yeah. i’m a very happy camper. i love this duet so much. thank you rachel for choosing to write and allowing the world to read it.

this is a really hard review to write but im gonna try my hardest ok im not used to writing positive reviews help
my babies are back, and im so happy
this was the perfect sequel to a book that was originally only 24hrs long. set over the toughest year in rowan and neil's lives, it goes so much deeper into their relationships with each other, friends, and family, while also remembering that fateful day when they played howl together.
the way this book dealt with mental health was so beautiful, not in the way that the experience was beautiful, but the way that the description seemed much more relateable than other authors (pls dont come for me i havent experienced it but it definitely helped me imagine better)
neil, my precious bf ranga king i cant tell you how much i was excited to have his pov, and it was so good!! hes so funny and awkward and the way description was used was amazing.
rowan, my smiths stanning queen also had her issues this time aorund, but i loved seeing her grow socially and make new firends (and obviously i love her music taste sm)
im also so glad we got that epilogue, even though it was pretty short for my liking. I NEED TO SEE THEM IN LIKE 20 YRS PLSSSSSSSSSS

I don’t even know what to say.. Except wow. (but Neil says wow is not an adjective 😔)
To preface, I would say do NOT read this book if you don’t love Neil & Rowan. This was very much an epilogue novel (imo), and we just watched these 2 characters that we have grown to love navigate their new life at college thousands of miles apart. And in case you haven't got the message yet I LOVED it.
I don’t know how to coherently express myself but i’m gonna try , if you don't understand this review, my bad 👹
I’m feeling so giddy right now! I don’t know how to physically express it to you through the screen, but you have to know I am shaking, my family is lowk concerned. It's been days since i finished the book, and i am still thinking about it. This book was perfect to me in every single way shape and form, I don't think I could have read it at a better time. (they moved to college, I just moved to Australia) WHY DOES ROWAN KEEP READING MY MIND?? (she is where half my personality came from fr).
This book was so needed, (I might be a bit biassed) At the end of T3, I would have sold my left kidney for an epilogue, and this book delivered exactly that! It showed us Neil and Rowan’s summer after they got together, and I couldn't help but giggle. Neil & Rowan are the reason that I still believe in love. Like I was genuinely crying with joy.
Alright i think that's enough random rambling, lets try and structure this review at least a little bit.

Perfection.
This book had a little bit more of a serious undertone, but that was to be expected as the characters are older. Also the characters had mental health issues (i will talk about this more later)
The book was also so deeply romantic, i don't know how to explain it but you could really feel it in your toes that the characters loved each other, more so than the first one. I feel like since the first one was kind of a whirlwind we didn't really get to see them love each other, but with this one we spent a year with them, and it was perfect.
My favourite nerds Neil and Rowan have always been great at communicating(except for when it took them 4 years to confess that they loved each other 🧍) and that didn’t change in this book. I watched them communicate their romantic needs which was kind of uncomfy (but it’s neil and rowan so its fine)
And GAHHHH, I JUST LOVE THEM SOOOO MUCH! (could you tell?)
Anyways to finish this section up, their romance was perfect, obviously very different vibes to the first one but still great.

Rowan has been my favourite character since day one. I relate to her on a spiritual level, she is smart, witty, and she is built the same as me, she reads and loves romance books, and she is scared of judgement from people in her real life. She is a nerd (which is obviously same), she craves academic success, hates when things aren't rigid and takes comfort from rules. She is just ME OMFG. This time I saw her struggling to make friends, which is again something I struggle with, I also saw her feeling homesick (which is so real for me right now) and she is just perfection, I really really love her.

Guys this is the man that started my obsession with gingers (could go on about this all day) and fueled my obsession with nerds.
Having this man’s POV legitimately changed my life. The way that he cares for Rowan 🫦 The way he TALKS ABOUT HER???🫦🫦 He is literally the reason i’m going to die alone because where am i gonna find me a man that loves me the way he loves Rowan? 😩 Like Oh my God, this book has literally ruined my life.
And Of course i loved him so much in this book. Watching his struggle with what his dad did, and his depression broke my heart into a million pieces. Like I wanted to walk into the book and give him a hug, because he is such a sweet soul and in no world does he deserve what he goes through. I am pretty happy with the way Rachel Lynn Solomon presented Neil’s mental health issues, I found it to be relatable and i’m glad that we got to see this rep with the mmc.

I am so glad that I read this book. I don't know how I'm going to stay a normal person. I am genuinely so grateful that Rachel wrote this book, and forever indebted to her that she didn't butcher it. I know this review sounds overwhelmingly positive, but that was just the experience I had with the book. As i said, do NOT read this book if you didn't love “Today Tonight Tomorrow” However, if you did I would RUN to get this book the second it comes out.

I don’t even know what to say.. Except wow. (but Neil says wow is not an adjective 😔)
To preface, I would say do NOT read this book if you don’t love Neil & Rowan. This was very much an epilogue novel (imo), and we just watched these 2 characters that we have grown to love navigate their new life at college thousands of miles apart. And in case you haven't got the message yet I LOVED it.

I’m feeling so giddy right now! I don’t know how to physically express it to you through the screen, but you have to know I am shaking, my family is lowk concerned. It's been days since i finished the book, and i am still thinking about it. This book was perfect to me in every single way shape and form, I don't think I could have read it at a better time. (they moved to college, I just moved to Australia) WHY DOES ROWAN KEEP READING MY MIND?? (she is where half my personality came from fr).
This book was so needed, (I might be a bit biassed) At the end of T3, I would have sold my left kidney for an epilogue, and this book delivered exactly that! It showed us Neil and Rowan’s summer after they got together, and I couldn't help but giggle. Neil & Rowan are the reason that I still believe in love. Like I was genuinely crying with joy.
Alright i think that's enough random rambling, lets try and structure this review at least a little bit.

Perfection.
This book had a little bit more of a serious undertone, but that was to be expected as the characters are older. Also the characters had mental health issues (i will talk about this more later)
The book was also so deeply romantic, i don't know how to explain it but you could really feel it in your toes that the characters loved each other, more so than the first one. I feel like since the first one was kind of a whirlwind we didn't really get to see them love each other, but with this one we spent a year with them, and it was perfect.
My favourite nerds Neil and Rowan have always been great at communicating(except for when it took them 4 years to confess that they loved each other 🧍) and that didn’t change in this book. I watched them communicate their romantic needs which was kind of uncomfy (but it’s neil and rowan so its fine)
And GAHHHH, I JUST LOVE THEM SOOOO MUCH! (could you tell?)
Anyways to finish this section up, their romance was perfect, obviously very different vibes to the first one but still great.

Rowan has been my favourite character since day one. I relate to her on a spiritual level, she is smart, witty, and she is built the same as me, she reads and loves romance books, and she is scared of judgement from people in her real life. She is a nerd (which is obviously same), she craves academic success, hates when things aren't rigid and takes comfort from rules. She is just ME OMFG. This time I saw her struggling to make friends, which is again something I struggle with, I also saw her feeling homesick (which is so real for me right now) and she is just perfection, I really really love her.

Guys this is the man that started my obsession with gingers (could go on about this all day) and fueled my obsession with nerds.
Having this man’s POV legitimately changed my life. The way that he cares for Rowan 🫦 The way he TALKS ABOUT HER???🫦🫦 He is literally the reason i’m going to die alone because where am i gonna find me a man that loves me the way he loves Rowan? 😩 Like Oh my God, this book has literally ruined my life.
And Of course i loved him so much in this book. Watching his struggle with what his dad did, and his depression broke my heart into a million pieces. Like I wanted to walk into the book and give him a hug, because he is such a sweet soul and in no world does he deserve what he goes through. I am pretty happy with the way Rachel Lynn Solomon presented Neil’s mental health issues, I found it to be relatable and i’m glad that we got to see this rep with the mmc.

I am so glad that I read this book. I don't know how I'm going to stay a normal person. I am genuinely so grateful that Rachel wrote this book, and forever indebted to her that she didn't butcher it. I know this review sounds overwhelmingly positive, but that was just the experience I had with the book. As i said, do NOT read this book if you didn't love “Today Tonight Tomorrow” However, if you did I would RUN to get this book the second it comes out.

it breaks my heart to give a neilrowan book 2.5 stars, but i have to speak my truth!
my issues with this book can be summarised into 3 main points:
1. tonally, this is a completely different book to ‘today tonight tomorrow’. while i understand that this is exploring a different part of neil and rowan’s life, this felt so jarring to the fun and adventurous experience of the first book.
2. as much as this was still the love story of rowan and neil as they are tested by long distance, it felt very much like the story of rowan. and neil. separate. because they go to different colleges (she’s in boston and he’s in new york city), they spend a lot of the story apart as they stumble through the demands of their majors. they might spend a lot of time thinking about each other, and reflecting on their relationship, but it doesn’t make up for the fact that they aren’t in the same place. for an almost 400 page book, not a lot happens??
2b. adding on to my prior point, because they are studying different things and are no longer each other’s academic rival, we lose their teasing banter and the dynamic which made the first book so enjoyable for me. neilrowan academic rivals to lovers blueprint, you will always be missed by me. this is another case of the build up being more interesting than the actual relationship, but this point is more of a personal preference though.
3. and this might be my biggest problem: it was quite sad for a contemporary romance book. without going into spoilers, both rowan and neil experience many new challenges in their first year of college. being stuck in their struggling mental states - and slowly watching them unravel the entire book - was tough to read about. particularly in the second half of the book (especially neil’s storyline), i felt slightly unsettled and i missed the lightheartedness of the first book. while it was an authentic and realistic experience that many college students go through, it was not what i was expecting in a today tonight tomorrow sequel.
overall, while this was not the book for me, it was easy to fly through and i am grateful to have been able to see neilrowan one more time.

Past Present Future picks up three months after the day that forever changed Rowan and Neil's lives - a day so magical that it seems impossible to believe that their chemistry afterwards could carry the same effortless synchronization and sparks that flowed between them that special day. And with the daunting presence of having to navigate waters of a long-distance relationship while heading off to different colleges, it's not so much a challenge, but a welcome one - one that they are determined to prove that the two of them have what it takes to make it work out between the two. 'I want that. To change with you sounds like the biggest fucking honor.' It's not the distance that will make the heart grow fonder, but the belief that if they'd made it this far as enemies before, and friends at a pivotal moment during, doesn't it mean that they can still be lovers, now? 😟

The romantic part isn’t just falling in love, I know that now—it’s staying in love, too.”
It does read like a much more depressing if not heavy read, one which sheds light on the difficulties of not only the freshman college experience, but how hard it is to sustain a well-maintained healthy romance with one not in the same vicinity as you. It may not have had the same nostalgic feel to it that made their previous interaction such a fun and light one, but it is still a solid look at the two sides of a long distance relationship - the challenges that come with it - the daunting pressure of trying to find that same charm and attraction over the air waves and the mileage that divides them, as well as the different social circles and curriculum that prevent them from sharing in personal experiences. 🥺🥺 Not to mention their own personal inner struggles that start to take a mental toll on them that makes it even more difficult to relate to each other on a more intimate level. 'We’re good together, and I’d be an idiot to give that up just because we don’t live in the same city.' I enjoyed the supporting cast as they offered their own unique take on what college life is like in the first year; not that I have my own experience to relate to, it captured the vibes of finding one's niche, the hesitancy over whether or not one's studies is the right one to pursue, making friends that could be your future wolf pack. 🫂🫂 And as we alternate between the two of their points of views, we get to see the lengths of affections they have for each other, as well as all the burdens they've been carrying that is preventing them from connecting on a deeper level.
“Maybe we won’t change at the same time—we probably won’t. But we can change together. We just have to give the other person space to do it.
Not to become a completely different person . . . but to grow.”
Including Neil's perspective was a welcome touch as we get to learn his own take on significant moments of their dynamic - the ones that stood out to mean so much to both of them. His adoration for Rowan - his Artoo - never wavered - even when he felt at a point that maybe he was the one holding her back. We also get to see a little bit more insight into his own personal life - a painful part of his past that seems to be having a hold over his own mental health. 😥 It was hard seeing him doubt his own capabilities, but honestly, it also felt very realistic at how his own views of his interests could change and the fear that came with it. His own family plays a larger part in this one, where one key moment was so heartbreaking to read - heartbreaking at how much it deeply affit was hard and I really felt for him there. 'I close my textbook, wondering how it’s possible to be trapped between a desire for understanding and the simple wish for all of it to go away.' 🥺 Rowan was her usual self - or was she? Not so confident about her own writing capabilities, feeling inferior to others' talents, indifferent to her own capabilities - everything was handled in a very honest and believable fashion - one that could happen to any one person that made it relatable for me to appreciate. Add to the crushing realization that she may have been unaware of Neil's own personal issues, I liked the growth that she showed when she embraced her own fears and worked on improving them. Making a change that would benefit not only her future, but her future with Neil, as well. 😟
And they were good together - very wholesome, very affectionate, very giving, even when apart. I never doubted that they wouldn't find a way back to each other - never felt that their love ever wavered - never feared that they wouldn't hold it together. Despite the hurdles - despite that niggling doubt that maybe what they had was only a one time thing and they should have the chance to explore other possibilities - I liked that they never took their relationship for granted. 🤍🤍 They still had that sweetness to them - a cuteness that shined when they both knew just what to say at the right moment to make the other feel better. How they're the first persons they think of when wanting to share a special moment with - be it writing or a humorous take or simply just seeking out each other's comfort. 'There is something about this boy that undoes me every single time, and sometimes I still can’t believe all of it is real.' 🥹 That trust and connection that bound them together even when apart. That they never felt that being together was what would prevent them from living the full college life. And that was an important inclusion that played out well; Rowan standing up to her mother, Neil staying true to his commitment. It was a loyalty pact that proved just how special they were to each other that made me believe that no matter how hard it may be now, they would somehow make it work.

I think for me what stood out the most was how RLS showed that even though they're fighting to keep the magic alive that brought them together - it doesn't necessarily mean that they'll never be able to have it again. Getting this more mature and honest look into their relationship was a very positive one; it still stays very borderline-YA, but there is a more direct discussion to their sexual activities that makes it feel a lot more believable and relatable to those who may be in these similar situations. 'I don’t overthink—I just let myself feel. In my imagination, we can be both filthy and sweet. Depraved and wholesome. I want her in every possible way.' 😊 Perhaps it had to do with Rowan's love for romance novels that made her so candid in the discussions, but it was also nice to see how Neil was even willing to be more openly direct about it. As much as it was embarrassing to talk about it, I appreciated how it played into the narrative, as not a forced inclusion, but one that felt necessary for both of them to be able to please and enjoy each other's company without being overwhelmed by expectations - wanting to make it as pleasurable and satisfying as the heated sparks of their first time together. 🥲
When all is said and done, despite the inherent fear of not being able to work it out, despite the lingering doubt that what they shared may have just been a fluke, rather than years of pining and yearning, seeing Rowan and Neil finally reach that moment of closure and acceptance and understanding. 🥰 A point where they were both inwardly happy and satisfied at the stage of their relationship was the gratification that made me believe that the angst and rough waters they had to wade through was worth it. 'But tonight, they have this: the future they fought for and the promise they continue to make every single day.' The epilogue was a positive and hopeful look at showing that even though the journey may have been a rocky one at the start, it didn't mean they didn't have what it took to make it to safe shores. And their final moment proved that they had survived the test of time to make it in time for a future that was entirely theirs for the keeping. 🩵🩵

If you are about to start a new chapter in your life moving away from home for school, then i definitely recommend this book. It perfectly captures all of the emotions of feeling lonely, lost, scared, homesick in a new city. Its such a real and scary feeling and she explains whats going on in your head and how to overcome these fears so well.
This book felt like a trip toward memory lane to my freshman year of college. Just the way they felt about this whole new experience, leaving home and a bf behind, just felt super nostalgic.
I wish this came out when I was a freshman, gosh I would have enjoyed it so much more being at the same age Rowan and Neil are and going through the same experience, but it was still enjoyable.

wow. how do i start this? i was so lucky to receive an arc of the sequel to my favorite book ever, and oh my god i have never read anything like this.
in this book rowan and neil are long distance and they break up and a ton of shit happens but that doesn’t matter because in the end they always end up together. this was absolutely perfect. e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. about it.
i’m in love with neil and i see so much of myself in rowan and god they’re just my favorite fictional characters ever!!! when they broke up i was devastated and i sobbed and i had to put the book down. but as rowan said in the book "romance is my favorite genre, because no matter how many times the author breaks your heart you know they’ll fix it again in the end"
thank you rachel lynn solomon for creating this world that i love so dearly

3.75. Rachel Solomon always does a great job of love, laughter and mental Illness checkups and check-ins. This was no different. Good sequel and still love the callouts to Seattle.

I couldn't get enough of this bonus book featuring more of my two favorite nerds, Rowan and Neil!! They finally got together at the end of Today tonight tomorrow and in this book we get to see what their life apart is like as they start college in different cities - Neil in New York and Rowan in Boston.
The book does a great job exploring the challenges of trying to find yourself in a new place, making new friends and the ups and downs of long distance relationships. Highlights for me included the excellent mental health rep (Neil struggles with depression and starts therapy) and the relatable feelings of loneliness and inadequacy Rowan has struggling to make friends and with her writing.
At its core though, Rowan and Neil have some incredible moments learning to communicate about their needs in the bedroom; Neil opening up about his feelings for his emotionally abusive and incarcerated father and what their future together might look like. Rowan's Creative writing Prof was also a favorite part for me, she was so supportive and such a great mentor for Rowan!
Overall this was another pitch perfect rom com that felt utterly real in both big and small ways interspersed with comic levity, more scavenger hunts and swoony touches and insights about life, love and continuing to be there for your partner through all the highs and lows that come at you.

this book was just bad. i didn’t have any other option on the plane and i wish i could’ve broken into the luggage compartment and had gotten my other books. this book felt nothing like the first one which i enjoyed. this was just them moping around and i wasn’t having it. i was just bored with them having this weird dynamic of refusing to share things and then over sharing? (idk if that makes sense). this book had no plot or substance and i’ll admit im a little disappointed bc i paid money for this. why does this have good reviews? idk. this book should’ve stayed in the drafts

Most contemporaries don't need a sequel. Most works of art don't need one actually. Continuing a story that was successful just because you want to build off that success is cheap to me, a scheme for capitalism. A way to wring out something beautiful so all that remains is threadbare art. I have passionate feelings about sequels and their lack of necessity.
But I have discovered an exception to that general rule.
Rachel Lynn Solomon did not intend to write a sequel* to the beloved TODAY TONIGHT TOMORROW, even after it got some BookTok popularity. But she had an idea, wrote it all, and didn't tell anyone at first. And I think that the birth of PAST PRESENT FUTURE is what gave this story the life typically MIA in sequels—there was no ulterior motive, no corporate finger wagging. PPF was born out of passion and an idea that needed to be told to bring together Neil and Rowan's story. Their story didn't end in book one.
"...dating Neil McNair isn't actually all that different from sparring with him. We just get to make out afterward."**
This book feels meta in many ways. Rowan is an aspiring romance writer, and the book opens with her musing on the parts of romance novels we never see: what happens after they get together. What happens after "I love you." What happens after "The End." And we zip through their summer of love, the story instead centered on their long-distance relationship while in their first years of college—what it's like navigating a still very new relationship miles apart while simultaneously growing into their own selves as fresh adults.
Another reason why sequels usually flop is because there isn't a compelling enough story to carry a whole other arc. T3 is told only in Rowan's POV, but PPF is dual POV. Neil's character had a lot to explore in this story, something I wanted more of T3. (I always say T3 is a near-perfect book, and it would be more perfect if we had dual POV to begin with.) Rowan's character also had interesting developments. All of which is spoilery for both books, so you'll just have to read it. ;)
"Forelsket (Norwegian): the euphoria you experience as you begin to fall in love; or, how I feel whenever I'm around you."**
PAST PRESENT FUTURE is deeply romantic. Fitting snugly in the New Adult category that publishing doesn't acknowledge, Rowan and Neil have conflicts outside of their relationship, but they still have things to figure out within their own budding relationship too. All facets of it, actually, from emotional to physical and mental.
I don't think there are many books that explore that part of a relationship. What happens when the honeymoon phase is over? What happens when shit hits the fan, but you're miles apart? How can you stay connected emotionally and physically if you can't do the usual gestures, like bringing them soup when they're sick? Everything looks different. Passion has a more frenzied feel, a clock ticking down. Communication has to shift from what worked IRL to finding what works apart, then return to the original way when reunited. All the second-guessing that accompanies separation. It's not easy to experience or to write about.
I started this review with a Taylor Swift lyric, from the iconic "Love Story." The whole time I read PPF I kept hearing those lines in my head. Straightforward lyrics, nothing to win a Printz over—but the truest statement an 18-year-old girl can write in her bedroom. I like to think Rowan is a Swiftie, partly because Taylor is *the* songwriter of our generation, and I think her music would be a comfort for all the nights of uncertainty and all the nights of contentment. And there are few relationships that I believe in as much as I believe in Rowan Roth and Neil McNair.
I never doubt Rachel, and I never have reason to. I will be forever grateful that she entrusted me with the secret that this book existed in the first place, and then each title and cover development. Rowan and Neil are going down in history as one of the best YA couples to ever be written.

Rachel told me about the T3 sequel last summer and the way I LOST MY MIND before realizing I couldn't tell anyone, and therefore had to lose my mind by myself. It was hard to be me there for a second. But now the secret is OUT!!
I am so glad this is the title it's being published under too. Now I just need T3 to get a redesigned cover to match!!

This was a boring, repetitive, cringy mess. And considering it’s YA, all they did was have, think about, and talk about sex. This sequel does not need to exist.

The getting together was the easy part, even if it felt like the steepest uphill climb at the time. The staying together is the part that books and movies and love songs tend to ignore.
Today Tonight Tomorrow is one of my favorite YA novels. It beautifully captures the feelings and insecurities of that unique time in your life around high school graduation. When you really cared about whether or not you went to Prom or had that perfect high school girlfriend or boyfriend. When your feelings are so raw and jumbled that you keep pushing someone away because you might just be the last person to realize that you’re actually interested in them. That rush of feelings of first love, and the leap of faith you have to take just before you tell them. It’s an adorably sweet, and very funny, story.
So when I learned there was a sequel, Past Present Future, I was equal parts excited to see what would come nest for Rowan and Neil and nervous because I was happy assuming that Rowan and Neil got their happily ever after, and I was pretty sure the drama would come from placing their seemingly perfect relationship in jeopardy. And this story, which covers their first years of college—her at Emerson in Boston and him at NYU—does exactly that. Much of the drama is just what you’d expect: roommates and trouble with school and long distance relationships are hard. But a surprising amount of the drama was much more serious, as Neil struggles with depression. It was certainly realistic, and handled well, but it gave this story a much more serious tone than the first book. It fit with the book’s overall themes—that romance novels tend to focus on falling in love even though staying in love is the harder part—but a little but of the magic gets sacrificed for the increased realism. Recommended.

One of my favorite books has a sequel?? Why did I not know this??
It was so great to jump back into Rowan and Neil’s story. For a sequel, I really enjoyed this book! I feel as though with romance novels, we never really get to see the “after”. Once the characters get together, the story ends. This book completely satisfied my desire to watch Rowan and Neil together after TTT.
This book felt so relatable, and I loved the college setting!! So underused in this genre :)

my heart!! today tonight tomorrow was such a bright spot in the pandemic and ended up being one of my favorite books of 2020, and i'm happy to report it completely held up on reread this year. that being said, i was really curious how a rowan & neil sequel would shake out. past present future was so honest and real, and i can't imagine a more fitting continuation of rowan and neil's story. i loved that this book gave us dual POV narration, and i had a blast simply getting to spend more time with these characters. since the first book takes place within the span of 24 hours, it was nice to get a deeper understanding of who rowan and neil are, especially as they're experiencing such a pivotal time of change in their lives.
past present future gave such a refreshingly realistic take on what it's like to navigate a changing relationship while both parties are experiencing times of great change on a personal level. the portrayals of long distance relationships, sex, college classes, navigating new social situations, discovering that maybe you didn't know yourself as well as you thought you did... it hit close to home and it felt very honest. i also really appreciated how rowan and neil's college experiences were so different, but both felt very true to life. this is a pretty angsty story that deals with heavier themes at times, but it still managed to stay just as swoonworthy and sweeping and romantic as its predecessor.
overall, i can't recommend both books in this duology highly enough. i loved getting to explore what happens after the HFN of the first book in this continuation. oh, and that epilogue made my face hurt from smiling.

Honestly not even my favourite plot, the long distance college romance wasn’t for me. but i loooved these characters sm and it took me a two hour train ride to finish 20 ish chapters. they felt so nostalgic and romantic and i just aghhh i love rowan and neil sm 🤍
