Title: Strateginen johtaminen – menestyksen timantti Author: Mika Kamensky Publisher: Talentum ISBN: 9789521412165 Total pages: p. 392 Published: 2008 Read and Review: 2024
I must begin this review with high praise. Reading this book was like delving into really thoughtfully crafted notes and insights about the topics presented in this book. Normally, when I encounter ideas in books that I want to remember, I jot down my reflections in a notebook. However, with this book, I felt like I should copy almost every page entirely. Making my usual process almost impossible and very hard at least ( Probably I just have to read this book many many more times to better grasp the concepts..). It’s a testament to the abundance of valuable ideas and frameworks the author knows and how well he has presented them in the book.
The book resembles "Marketing Management" by Kotler, offering a comprehensive overview of essential marketing principles. However, this book focuses on strategy and its management. Despite its density and the numerous topics it covers, the writing style makes it accessible and enjoyable. The author's wisdom, philosophy, and humor shine through, making it a delightful read.
The book begins by exploring the meanings of the words "strategy" and "management," highlighting how challenging they are to define due to their multidimensional nature. Also emphasizing that strategy is an age-old concept used by military leaders and has only recently been adapted for business use. The study of business strategies is still a very young discipline.
The book offers a comprehensive guide to strategic management. Outlining the need for strategy and defines strategic concepts at many levels. It traces the evolution of strategic management, highlighting its critical success factors such as innovation, understanding, teamwork, focus, and long-term thinking. The book also delves into the strategic architecture of a company, emphasizing the integration of corporate and business strategies and the importance of a clear strategic process. Additionally, it covers the company’s mission, values, and vision, which form the foundation of strategic planning. The text discusses strategic business areas and the process of defining and analyzing these areas for success. The book also addresses the implementation of strategies, risk analysis, strategic communication, and the importance of linking operational management with strategic goals. Maybe even more things I am forgetting in the moment.
Where I think the book excels at is in demonstrating the numerous perspectives from which one can approach and understand strategy. It's an eye-opening read for understanding the various factors influencing strategy formation, highlighting common success criteria, and identifying frequent pitfalls.
