DNF several stories.

ARC Read:

My Deal with the Demon Marquis - Leona Wilde - 4.75 - 5 stars!

Leona is back with her first MM romance and starts out with a bang. A short story between a demon and mortal whose love will hopefully transcend time and space. When Thorne summons Aamon, he never expects the bond that is forged between them or the dangers that come with it. Their chemistry is incendiary but also comes with a lot of unknown.

“This between us,” he murmurs, his voice laced with vulnerability, “it’s so dangerous, Thorne.”

I want to tell him I couldn’t care less about the danger. I want to beg him to kiss me, to touch me, but instead I blink as the weight of disappointment settles over me. “Why?”

“I can’t afford to feel this way,” he says a softer string of words I barely make out, but when I do, my heart drops, “with you.”

Such an intricately detailed world that was original and fascinating. I loved Thorne’s quiet innocence coupled with his fiery outbursts and Aamon’s broody facade and equally soft heart. This story ends on a HFN and I hope that Leona writes an epilogue or some sort of continuation for them because I wanted more! If you’re grabbing this anthology, this story has to be on your agenda!😍

Lost and Found - Allegra Hall - 2.5 stars!

Zak is an orc just trying to live his life until he meets Rose the ghost. Is she really a ghost though?

I didn’t enjoy this all that much. I thought Zak was a bit of a pushover and Rose had no personality. The story dragged and then rushed and I didn’t understand what I was reading. The steam didn’t work for me either. This ends on a HEA.

Penny (Not So Dreadful) - Vivienne Hart - No Rating

Amor Fati - Vera Valentine - No Rating

Review for Kass O’Shire’s Short:

This short felt like a sugar sweet, but still blunt, indictment of the various gods that have existed in religions on earth. It was cathartic for me. The Lady, unlike gods from earth lore (as for as I know, I could def be wrong about some earth gods), decided she had failed her creations and needed to step back and atone for the harm she’d done and allow them to grow. It was honestly beautifully done. The relationship between her and Orcus was believable and engaging and has you rooting for them to be together forever.

Spice: 2/5

Triggers: discussion of centuries past war and death (not detailed)

Review for Lost and Found by Allegra Hall (only, atm. Will come back with further reviewing when it’s published and I’ve read more than just the ARC for Allegra.)

I absolutely adored Zak and Rose! Both characters were really lovely and I enjoyed reading from Zak’s POV a lot. I feel like there arent enough monster roms where we get the male leads POV with the female leads, let alone have the majority of the “screen time” so to speak. Rose’s circumstances and the way that Allegra ties her into the main plot of the series was just mind blowing. It was so satisfying to read but also left me with so many questions that have me eager to continue reading!!

I genuinely love the world that Allegra Hall has created and the characters within it, it’s always such a pleasure to read her content as an advanced reader.

——

I am looking forward to reading the other authors offerings in this installment of Monsters in Love! ☺️

Part of the Monsters In Love Anthology: Volume 6 Lost In The Underworld

4.5/5 ⭐️
Steam: 2.5/5
Plot: 4.5/5
Characters: 5/5

MM
Paranormal
Novella (Part of an Anthology)
Destiny/Fate
Good Boy
Boss/Assistant

Amor Fati is part of the Monsters In Love: Volume 6 Lost In The Underworld anthology.

Milo Argus is having the worst morning. All he’s trying to do is get to a job interview and everything is going wrong. When he finally arrives, he’s met by an incredibly good looking boss who seems to hire him with no interview. Milo is a bit suspicious but is willing to overlook quite a bit when it’s said from such a dreamy employer.

Their connection is instant and powerful. It would seem destiny has a hand in it - or is that Fate at play?

This is an excellent Underworld short story. The characters are written really well with humor and heat. The steam and attraction between them is hot and delivers. This is a must read for fans of paranormal romance and just in time for spooky season.

Review for Kass O’Shire’s story:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️

If you have read Kass's previous books, you'll know that there is mention of the main deity, "Our Lady." Finally, we get a glimpse of who she is, exploring her more deeply and giving more history to the world of Shades of Sanctuary. It's a short but sweet story, focusing on Our Lady, who believes she has failed all of her creations. She goes to Orcus, the god of death—who, by the way, was created by her—so that he can punish her or, rather, help her understand the emotions that are so different for her. The relationship between the two is very beautiful; they help each other grow. Most notably, Orcus teaches her about the pleasures she sees but has never experienced herself. They are perfect for each other, two halves that were missing and finally found. The story is very well written and leaves you wanting to know more about the world Kass has created.

Lost and Found by Allegra Hall

“I’m not… I’m still pretty lost, Rose.” My mouth works, but I can’t seem to put what I need to say into words, and I take a deep breath, steeling myself. “I’m not lost when I’m with you.”

Rating: 5/5
Spice: 1/5

Here I was, thinking it would be just a nice orc x ghost novella to read until Howl releases… that was a mistake. Zak and Rose got me in my feels and Rose was the most adorable thing ever! Our sweet orc did not stand a chance. The connections to the world Allegra has built, the cameos of our favs from A Wolf in the Garden… I was freaking out and literally gasped at chapter 12! I honestly suggest that you read AWITG first so you can appreciate this beautiful story and the mystery even more.

Sometimes the most monstrous creatures have the most human hearts and sometimes they are just really frecking scary. This anthology was filled with some pretty good stories. It makes for a great fall read.

Lost and Found
By Allegra Hall

Allegra Hall is an author that I enjoy and her story was one of my favorites in the Monsters in Love anthology.

Zak is a nice guy down on his luck and Rose is a lonely ghost. Both are lost in their own way but somehow find each other. The romance between the unlikely pair is sweet, then add in a male entertainment show and the mystery of what happened to Rose and you have yourself an interesting little read. I was dying to know how it all would turn out. Lost and Found is an adorable quirky little ghost romance.

PENNY (NOT SO) DREADFUL
By VIVIENNE HART

A Halloween night at a dark and seductive club where there are hints of magic at play, with gods and goddesses about, Vivienne Hart sure knows how to paint a vivid picture. Penny (Not So) Dreadful is Hart's contribution to the anthology. It was my first time reading Vivienne Hart and I adored her writing, it had a playful quality to it and the characters grabbed my attention. I loved it and wished there was more. Now I have to check out Vivienne's other books.

THE UNDERWORLD’S PET
By KASSANDRA CROSS

A revenge plot that grabbed my attention right away and had me wondering what was going on. This was dark, quick, and hot but with a horror vibe. It was quite an interesting mix. There was a new take on near-death experiences that I never considered but enjoyed. Someone needs to delve into that idea more, it's interesting, especially in a Halloween read. I will admit this short has made me very curious as to what the other books Kassandra has written are like.

FOOLING THE FERRYMAN
By WREN K. MORRIS

A mortal thief, plotting gods, and the Underworld, that's the stuff of greatness right there. I love it when lesser talked about mythologicals become the main character in a story. Looks like Charon, the famous Underworld ferryman is getting his shot.

This was such a good enemies-to-lovers and a good fast burn. Moria was a lot more savage than I expected but she got through to the grumpy ferryman. I just loved it when Charon called her Little Thief. Plus, Moria has balls. I was impressed. This was a fantastic read.

ANUBIS’ EMBRACE: SECRETS IN THE SHADOWS
By YD LA MAR

The MFC, Mara, was hilarious and a little crazy. Okay, a whole lot crazy but she had me smiling so I'm gonna give her a big thumbs up. She totally threw Anubis off his game. Being a solitary guardian of the dead, he didn't know what to make of Mara and her quirkiness. I enjoyed this hilarious Gloomy meets Sunshine romance.

Monster Love Anthology . . .

One of the best things about Anthologies with multiple authors is that the reader gets to revisit their favorite authors while also getting an introduction to others who may have been overlooked. An Excerpt from the Intimate Diary of our Lady Including an Account of her Captivity Under Orcus, God of Death by Kass O'Shire
5.0

This novella was so hot. In a bit of world building that I’ve been eagerly anticipating, we are introduced to the Lady (the creator and leading goddess of the world we’ve seen in O’Shire’s other books). She is determined to punish herself and remove herself from the world that she feels she has harmed. She must choose someone to help enact that punishment - and thus, we meet Orcus. She originally created Orcus as her equal, her even match. He exists to bring about whatever she desires. Once she goes to ‘sleep’ and leaves behind the world she created, he leads her to pleasure while taking away her control, although it takes a different form than the punishment she was expecting. This novella got spicy in a way even I wasn’t expecting but still I loved every bit of it.

Lost and Found by Allegra Hall
5.0

This was a great, spicy novella set within Allegra’s existing Unravelling Monsters Universe. Zak, an orc, is having trouble finding his place in the world since the unravelling outed him. Trouble finding work, trouble finding friends, and trouble feeling confident in himself. In a cascade of circumstances, he ends up meeting the girl next door and she really lights up his life... except she seems to be a ghost from the early 1900s. Rose, cute transparent ghostie girl that she is, just wants to be seen. Zak gives her that (and more!). With help from some other characters that readers might be familiar with, they figure out that there is more going on with Rose than originally thought. Zak and Rose get their happily ever after and readers get a nice little peek at what might be coming next in this universe. There’s just the right amount of world building and character development and spice (yeah, ghost sex).

Review for Lost and Found by Allegra Hall

4.5 stars
Ok Zach is officially one of my favorite orc MMCs now. He’s so sweet and caring. The way that he and Rose just fit together was a joy to read. I do wish we had more of them in the beginning of their relationship on page. It felt like it skipped from when they first started talking to each other to we’re in love. But there were some swoony romance moments.

I knew there were some ghostly spice scenes in here but I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy the see-through moments. 🥵 And of course since Zak is an orc there was a lot of…..stuff. 😏

The mystery of what was going on with Rose had me wanting to keep reading and there were a few plot twists I wasn’t expecting! I still have some questions and it makes me even more excited for more books in this world.

Loved the cameos of characters from A Wolf in the Garden! The found family feels from the pack are so sweet and lovely. The way they all came together to help Zak and Rose even when they were total strangers.

Can’t wait to see more of Zak and Rose. And the whole Unravelling Monsters gang! 💚

Review For My Deal with the Demon Marquis by Leona Wilde

4.5 stars
“I’m hungry thinking about chaining his pretty little throat to my wall and him on his knees before me, worshiping me as the formidable lord of hell I am.”

Gonna be honest I didn’t really read the blurb or know what exactly I was going to get in this story. I was just excited to read something of Leona’s, and almost immediately I knew I was going to love this. A big, powerful monster MMC having to pretend to be menacing and evil when they’re actually the opposite is a big favorite trope of mine. But the Marquis had his reasons and I felt myself rooting for him and for Thorne to realize the truth and just listen!

There are a number of kinks in this story and the spice was HOT 🥵 I highlighted so many things in the spicy scenes. The tentacles were a pleasant surprise. I hope someday in the future we get art done of the Marquis because I need to see him in all his glory!

Reviews for only titles below.

Lost and Found by Allegra Hall
4.25 stars

Zak, the male orc lead, was a successful actor prior to the Unravelling, when his non-humanity was revealed. Since then, he’s struggled to maintain work in his industry. Now moving into a share house, he notes a light in the house next door and is told it’s haunted. When he visits he find Rose, the female lead, so he initially presumes she is a ghost. As he talks to her and spends time with her, he finds himself deeply attracted to her and certain that she’s not actually dead…

This novella is primarily male lead POV, well written and edited, and a mysterious, contemporary fantasy romance. I enjoyed Zak’s character development and increasing self-awareness. I appreciated his consideration of Rose and the effort he put into investigating her circumstances. I found this is a great introduction to the author’s world, with other stories already available.

A Dash of Demon by Karla Doyle
4.25 stars.

Amazra, the male demon baker lead, and Lilah, the female human veterinary assistant lead, have been attracted to each other since they met but Amazra is sure he’s not a good choice for Lilah and Lilah is certain Amazra wouldn’t be interested in her. When mutual acquaintances encourage them to both take a chance, they’re pleased to find the attraction is mutual…

This short story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, contemporary fantasy romantic comedy, introducing the author’s world or acting as a fun short for those familiar with it. I was amused by the mutual pining. I enjoyed that they both took an emotional leap simultaneously. I enjoyed the steamy intimate moments and the happy ending.

I received a complimentary copy from the authors and this is my voluntary honest review.

Review for Lost and Found by Allegra Hall

Zak, an orc who is struggling to come to terms with his new reality, finds solace in his ghostly neighbor. He's the only one who can see Rose, but as the two get to know each other, their differences don't stop them from falling in love. As Rose disappears with each sunrise, Zak searches in vain for a solution. He hits a stroke of luck when he goes to the Lost Moon vineyard for a wedding and sees Rose's twin in the vineyard owner's mate. Could this be the key to unraveling the mystery of Rose's existence? With the vineyard owner on board, Zak and his new friends set about finding a way to save Rose before she disappears altogether.

This was an emotional novella that hit me right in the feels. Zak and Rose are such a cute pairing, and I was rooting for them from the first encounter. Her 1915 demeanor didn't know what to do when met with a 7ft5 Orc who strips to music for a living. But they made it work. Of course, I also loved seeing some of our OG couple, Van and Ellie. With the tidbits laced throughout this novella, I hope we see more of everyone in future stories from this universe. This sweet read had me glued to the couch from start to finish. I can't wait for more from this author.

Review for Lost & Found by Allegra Hall

After reading A Wolf in the Garden and being blown away by Allegra’s beautiful writing and uncanny ability to make me swoon and kick my feet, but also giving me super hot monster spice that rivals most regular human romance smut, I already knew I’d love this!!

I loved being back in this world and seeing some familiar faces pop in, and I OBVIOUSLY loved Zak! One thing about me, an Orc will always be my favorite monster! And a ghost FMC?! Say less. Allegra knows how to write a likable FMC that is sweet as pie, but knows what she wants and has some sass. This was also my first time reading a ghost character and let’s just acknowledge the fact that it takes a very specific type of creative brain to bring these crazy romances to life, and even this little novella executes it perfectly!

I HIGHLY recommend reading A Wolf in the Garden before jumping into this one, just to get a better understanding of the whole backstory of this universe, but absolutely dive into this one after! If they don’t immediately turn you into a fangirl, idk what to tell ya bc this is top tier monster romance!

Gleeful Goblin Review: I am so utterly thrilled with this anthology! I've read many of these authors before and it's always a kick to read new short stories, especially if it's connected to worlds I've already read! I enjoyed every story in this anthology and I feel like they all went together beautifully as a common theme. I do have a personal favorite story in the anthology which is "An Excerpt From The Intímate Diary Of Our Lady Including An Account Of Her Captívíty Under Orcus, God Of Deäth". I love the author's style of storytelling, it reminds me a lot of Douglas Adams relaying stories that are fantastical in nature but delivered in a matter of fact manner. For instance, this is the opening line of that story: "I never meant to ruin the world, yet here we are regardless." I was IMMEDIATELY intrigued and had so much fun with the follow through the author delivered. 5/5 Stars for this whole anthology and I heartily recommend reading more of each author.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I got the chance to read Amor Fati by Vera Valentine and let's just say... my muses were feeling EXTREMELY inspired after reading her piece. Short, sweet, and rather steamy! I was sucked in right from the first page, feeling just as frustrated as Milo was. When the first twist struck and the entire mood shifted into one of curiosity (and more ;) ), I was feeling it right with him.
MAN, I need me an Anderson. He's flirtatious and adorable. I would NOT mind applying for that job with him as the boss!!
I absolutely loved the touches of Greek mythology with this piece, along with the modernized & unique touches from the world Vera brings to us. I eagerly wait on the edge of my seat for more from this world (*fingers crossed!!*) and I can't wait to devour the rest of the anthology. I ABSOLUTELY need a paperback copy, cuz... let's be real. I want to reread this piece over & over and I KNOW I'll enjoy the rest.
FANTASTIC job, Vera. You sucked me in hardcore again!

This is a wonderful collection of monster romances by some of my fave authors, and some new-to-me authors. I loved the idea of the pleasure demon's purpose in Kassandra Cross' The Underworld Pet. I've never read her before but I'll definitely be checking out her other books after that steamy and vengeful story. Loved it! Karla Doyle's A Dash of Demon, was fun and steamy in the way I've come to expect from her. That she's a fellow Canadian, is just icing on my reading cake ;) I really could keep going but suffice to say that every short story in here caught me up, fully, and left me wanting more. Clear world building, wonderful, or terrible, characters, action, danger, and hot spice really make this an engaging collection and worthy of everyone's re-read shelf. I definitely recommend :D

Review for Lost and Found by Allegra Hall

This was so wholesome. Very demure. Very mindful.

I absolutely love this world and the characters in it and Zak and Rose are no exception. Zak is the epitome of a gentle giant orc with the charisma of Naveen from the Princess and the Frog. His fall from stardom to finding his passion and his true love was an incredible journey. His determination of helping Rose reclaim herself was admirable, but his declarations of love stole my heart. I love Rose. She might be sweet, but she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to demand it. This was the perfect blend of tear-jerking moments and steaminess. Hall has done it again and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

13 Stories of the Underworld.
Whoa! I was to review for one but read the entire anthology. Mind blown. Each story carries the characteristics of the author so each has its own flavor. Several I rate 5 star with the lowest being a 4 star - Primarily being long, somewhat boring and losing my attention; where the 5 star kept my full attention and fully enthralled. Or the best being a plot twist or the character being feisty or have sass. I enjoyed reading this anthology. It does list author trigger warnings and does all involve monsters and underworld and not mafia. Proceed with caution if you do read. You won’t be disappointed but will be fully entertained as long as you maintain an open mind.

Review for Kass O'Shire

This review is for Kass O'Shire's An Excerpt from the Intimate Diary of Our Lady: Including an Account of Her Captivity Under Orcus, God of Death. This while short was really sweet. The Lady, a god, feels like she failed her creation, and to atone for her actions, she decides to leave in order to punish herself, but rather than letting her just go Orcus, decides that he can exact the punishment on her that she needs or deserves to bring her back to the Lady that he always knew her as.

As I said, this story is short and sweet, not much spice to it, but what little there is, as always, is good. I love that her characters, no matter the story, feel so lovable and humble

Lost and Found by Allegra Hall review

I shouldn’t even be surprised the Allegra made me Team Orc. Or maybe I’m just Team Zak because he was such a sweet MMC!

I thoroughly enjoyed this little novella. I love all of the books in Allegra’s Unraveling Monsters and Lost Moon universe and this was no different. The love between Zak and Rose was very fast-paced and adorable and I loved how all in they were for each other. We also got to seem some previous characters, which I LOVED, although it certainly left me with more questions than answers haha.

This was just a small mouthful into Allegra’s Monster world and I’m already chomping at the bit for more!!

Lost and Found by Allegra Hall
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This story was a breath of fresh air (eheh). This is the exact book I needed to kick off the fall and spooky season! There is so much heart, so much spice, and sOO MUCH LORE!!! The build-up to the mystery was immaculate.

Allegras books always have many important things to say and show. The one that stood out to me this time around was a heavy theme of normalizing sex, and sex or sex-adjacent work. It was so refreshing and beautiful to read.

I loved the mystery around Rose, and how it added to the "Unravelling Monsters" lore. The twist literally had my jaw ON THE GROUND

Great PNR Collection
If you like monster romance then this collection is for you. With 14 stories featuring demons, reapers, the undead, macabre gods and more, you’ll be swept away by brilliant imagery, wit, steam, action, magic and dark romance. There’s both lighthearted and darker content included so be sure to check any warnings for each story.

A Dash of Demon by Karla Doyle
Fate Falls can only be found by humans if they’re meant to be there, Lilah was lucky enough to unknowingly help a resident and start her new life there.
With dual secret crushes, great friends, banter and fun.
This is a quick, cute, steamy and sweet.

I love how these authors have carried on these anthologies, each on being creative and different. It's a great opportunity to get exposure to authors in one book. I have found many that I loved while reading these. Lost and Found by Allegra Hall was one of my favs in this book. I loved how Zak was with Rose. These two very different characters written together end up finding love while being so different was such a good short story.

This is Book 6 of Monsters in Love starring anthology of 13 short stories monster stories. Each one of these stories is hot and steamy with just enough drama and storyline to keep you turning the pages. I did have some trouble getting into a couple of stories as guy on guy and woman on woman are not my thing but don’t let that stop you from picking up this wonder monster filled book.

This was a fab collection of stories, I was impressed with the variety of tales and love that there were short and longer stories.
I was hooked with the first story-Lost and Found by Allegra Hall, and couldn't put it down.
There are strong, clever women, questionable morals and monstrous guys-what more could you ask for?.
