Rate this book
After a decade as a single dad, I thought I had life figured out. I put my broken heart on the shelf to raise my daughter Maddie, and watching her grow into a confident, successful woman has been reward enough. Still, life has a way of throwing curves at you – the kind of curves that will get any guy’s attention. When Maddie’s best friends Lexie and Olivia find themselves homeless after losing their apartment, there’s no question I’m going to offer them refuge. They were there for Maddie during our darkest hours, and it’s my turn to be there for them now. But I’m not prepared for what they bring – what it means to be drawn to two beautiful women half my age, let alone two women who’ve been part of Maddie’s life for so long. I know the chemistry is mutual, but Lexie and Olivia have their own wounds to heal. It’s clear they need the kind of support only an experienced guy like me can give them. Do I dare take that step? Do I risk what it could do to Maddie, who’s been the center of my universe until now? As the attraction between the three of us intensifies, I have to balance what family really means against an unconventional passion that could upset everything. Bikini Days is a multi-POV, explicit, age-gap, menage romance with emotional drama, no cheating/NTR, and a HEA.

So I'm now something like 17 books in across six series with Michael Dalton, and the question arises: Can this man write anything I don't adore?

...so far the answer is no. Which is especially impressive to me because his work is so diverse. Master of Thieves was a pair of dark, gritty crime novels; Shifter Girls was a light hearted slice of life; Demon Hunter was a serious urban fantasy series; Neurodivergent was an absolutely decent pair of sci-fi novels. You just never know what you're going to get.

Which brings us to this, which is - somewhat inexplicably - a very well written romance story about a guy falling in love with two of his daughter's friends. It's charming, sweet, happy, and wholesome. (The setup is, yes, potentially pretty problematic, but some care is taken in the details to address that. There's no hint of abuse or consent violations.)

If anything about the cover blurb strikes your fancy, you should absolutely give this book a try; it's just really good. Not everyone is going to love it, but if a sappy romance about three people finding happiness in an unconventional relationship is even slightly your cup of tea, give it a shot.

If this book was food, it'd be a warm hot chocolate consumed while you listen to the wind and rain outside.

2.5🌶️

• FFM poly
• 2 bi girls x 1 straight man
• slice of life
• forced proximity
• age gap (about 24 years I think)
• surrogate daddy kinda thing
• 1st + 3rd person pov (explanation below)
• multi pov

This is my first time reading a “romance for men”. I love romance books and wanted to expand my horizons, and wanted to try out this genre to possibly have something different to buddy read with my husband in the future.

I know I’m not the target audience for this book (I’m a 30 yo woman, so I’m definitely not the target demographic). For this reason I decided to write a review without a rating as I’m honestly a little unsure how to rate it (as of right now, probably a 2 or at max 3⭐️, I’m not sure!). Gotta read more in the genre to form a better opinion on it and the expectations that I should have.

First of all I gotta say that I was a little “shocked” at first with the handling of the povs, the mmc chapters are written in 1st person pov while the fmcs are written in 3rd person pov. I’ve never encountered this in another romance book (or any other fiction book) and it took me a little to get comfortable with it.

Like, don’t y’all wanna be in the head of each character? I felt this distinction created a barrier, like we’re supposed to be Ethan vs the girls. As a straight woman, I freaking love being in the mmc’s head, much more than the fmc’s, so I was a little baffled about this at first :) I have no idea if this is the author’s stylistic choice or something that happens often within the genre. Anyway, I did get used to it after a few chapters, so it’s all good in the end.

All in all it was an okay read. Lighthearted, fast paced without much drama. I can definitely feel the story and writing style being different from “romance for women”, it definitely has a different approach. There wasn’t much emotional connection or character growth in my opinion.

The spice was nice, but I was hoping for longer scenes lol

Gotta say I was trying to escape the men stereotypes that “romance for women” keeps trying to feed us with the over 6’ muscular guys/jocks, and I kinda got that from this story. Buuut the other side of the medal is that the fmcs were then a bit stereotypical: cute, petite, curvy AF, natural beauties with big tits lol (classic male fantasy essentially, which is totally fine, but I want books with both mcs being realistic and stray from the stereotypical beauty standards, and I don’t know where to get that lol if not in some MM romances I find).

Anyway this story was nice, although it could fall a bit into a taboo romance since the two girls are the daughter’s friends, and the dynamic or their relationship with Ethan would (in my opinion) fall into a daddy k!nk, without the use of the nickname “Daddy”. They essentially kind of became Ethan’s surrogate daughters. If you’re not into that, this book is not for you.

Ok, I’m gonna stop or I’ll write an essay lol. Ok bye!

A new author for me. I found this to be an easy, heartwarming read; much more story than sex, although lots of innuendo.

I thought the unconventional relationships and age gap issues were well and sensitively handled. The source of angst was outside the main characters’ and the potential internal conflicts were maturely handled.

This author seems to have a fetish for petite women with oversized racks, but otherwise a thoughtful, if fanciful take on poly relationships. The book is well written and edited. The cheesy cover almost put me off, but it seems all his books have covers on a theme.

I note that the author says there is another book coming on his website - no date specified. The cover seems to have the same characters and the same “Bikini Days” handle. This book is a solid standalone with no cliffhanger, although the HEA suggests the story continues.

I’ll also note that there are some Daddy themes that emerge. They’re light, and I think the book would have done well without them, but just a heads-up.

An easy reading 5 Stars.

I enjoyed the story. This book is included in the Harem category, which is basically a male main character surrounded by girls as other main characters.

The story follows Ethan, divorcée that lives with his daughter even though she is working and saving money to one day be independent. Lexie and Olivia are Maddie's friend, couple that are alone and almost broke and need a house to be. Ethan does not see any problem with them sharing the same roof, the only problem is that they are both super hot and love spending time on the swimming pool with her bikinis.

The story is surprisingly entertaining and quick to read. The story goes to the point. I quite enjoyed the story

Trigger warnings: be ready for a full porn-movie scenes that were quite well presented

Wow, I breezed through this one much faster than I thought I would. An easy, fun book that I would definitely recommend.

Some thoughts:

- you’ll enjoy this if you know going in that its not really conflict oriented like Dalton’s other works. He says as much in the forward. This is much more romance based and honestly I appreciate it. It’s sort of like a palate cleanser to go in between another isekaj/kingdom building/litrpg/post apocalypse zombie harem series. Don’t get me wrong, I love those too it’s just nice to read something different.

- the main cast was very mature and understanding which is refreshing.

- I’m in favor of more of these. Honestly, if it was a series that just had a different cast every time I would read it. No need for a giant harem every time.

A splendid, familial win/ win!

I really enjoyed this lighthearted, familial hierarchy novel about a doting father finding an exciting replacement for his departing daughter. It all works in the end!

In the past month or so, I had noticed this book popping up on Goodreads recommended more than once. I randomly decided to go with it. It was a mildly interesting book, because it has something that I've only encountered one other time in these types of books: multiple PoVs. I'm usually not a fan of that idea, but in this case, it was PoVs from both the dad (Ethan) and the two girls (Lexie and Olivia). So it was PoVs from both sides of the blossoming relationship. Which, to me, is new.
The slight problem with this, though, is that it adds to the ridiculousness of it all. In porn, there is a certain amount of "porn logic" that has to occur to make everything move forward. Decisions or events that don't really make a whole lot of sense and would never realistically happen, but in order for the porn story to progress, they need to happen. It's something that you have to accept when you dive into one of these stories. However, you're usually only seeing this porn logic from the perspective of one character, the protagonist. In this novel, you get to see multiple characters engage in porn logic from all sides, and it really throws it into sharp relief just how ridiculous it is.

There were a few aspects of the story that seemed unnecessary. For one, Ethan has a pair of older twin sons (older brothers to his daughter). They were mentioned a few times. It's not that big of a deal, but it also doesn't really add anything to the story. One aspect to the relationship between Ethan and his daughter is how his daughter is of the age to start moving out, and therefore leaving the dad all by himself. Which is what Lexie and Olivia are filling the role of - essentially becoming his surrogate daughters in place of his actual daughter. But the fact that Ethan also has these other children just dilutes that aspect for no real good reason. It was an unnecessary thing to add to the story.
The other pointless thing was how many scenes there were of Ethan working. There were a few passages of the novel that were Ethan having work conversations with his work colleagues about work things. It had absolutely nothing to do with the main story of the developing relationship. I have no idea what the purpose of any of it was. It felt like meaningless padding to fill for time/length. Eventually I ended up skipping those scenes because they were a bunch of nothing.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great, either. Interesting enough for me to want to see how the second book is. Mainly because I don't know what else could possibly happen to fill an entire book's worth. Doesn't feel like there's a whole lot of territory left to explore in this story. I want to see what he does with it.

4.5 stars. Well done for what it is, just loses a notional .5 star for not being an outstanding story. Stretches credibility somewhat with the age gap, but only somewhat, as the girls' backstories give plausible reasons to be attracted to the "daddy" figure.

Crossover easter eggs with the author's other fantasy series was a nice touch. Looks like a one-and-done, so a good relaxing story for days you don't feel like any serious dramatic tension.

My first and last experience in the male romance genre. The only reason I am even admitting to having read this is because my New Year’s resolution was to track dates for every book I read.

I felt gross reading this book. The FMC were nothing more than sex robots, and the smut wasn’t even good.

Really Great Story

If you're looking for a lot of kinky sex, this isn't the book for you. The focus of the story is the story and characters and when I started this, I was expecting a lot of sex and found myself more drawn in to the book. There are two brief sex scenes that are pretty tame, but I honestly didn't care by that point. I'm going to follow the author to get more great works. The only down fall is at times I would lose track of who was talking due to no indication of who the speaker was.

Unconventionnal and excellent

I've read then bought most of the author's work (kindle unlimited) and I have to say it read like a regular romance novel...which is good. That's what he was aiming for. Enjoyable change of pace. I am quite willing to buy the sequel !

This was much better than I thought it was going to be. While the story was fantastical it was also told in a way that made sense. 48 year old guy is living in a big house with his 24 year old daughter. His wife left the family 10 years ago and abandoned everyone. His daughter asks him a favor. 2 of her friends are being kicked out of their apartment and have nowhere to stay. They are in a relationship and their parents don't like that fact and won't help them. He agrees. He still appreciates the fact they helped his daughter when his wife left him. They show up and are very appreciate. They get close. They never had anyone in their life take care of them the way he does. He respects them and listens to them. They find out he hasn't been with anyone in 10 years since his daughter asked him not to date anyone. They can't believe it. He is a great guy and they can see how lonely he is.

Ça n’a aucun but et n’apporte rien à l’histoire.

Surprisingly Deep

This book is spicy. No doubt about it. But the depth of the characters is astounding, for only 250-ish pages to work with. Olivia and Lexie may as well be the same, except for the minor differences in their trauma. And yet Michael does a great job of showing who they are in their chapters. Ethan as our main character spends the most time presenting his POV, but the depth of the writing is fantastic. The Easter eggs to other stories is also fantastic. Really loved this. Hoping for another. I only ask that if the author does make a sequel, make it one where the ex wife shows up. I've enjoyed ones where the ex comes back humbled and earns their way back into the MCs heart. I've also enjoyed brutal revenge. Whichever one happens seems like a good fit, although the second would be easier because Maddie likely won't ever forgive her mother. Anyways, here's hoping we get more.

Better than I expected

I started reading this story, expecting it to be full of sex and titillating. I was pleasantly surprised to find a good story here. I was a little disappointed with the grammatical errors, but with the writing today, I can't tell if it's with the editing or some software glitch.
I think the story sets itself up for at least one or two follow-on stories. I could see one following Ethan, Olivia, and Lexi as both Olivia and Lexi navigate finishing college and what happens after college. I also could see a follow-on story on Maddie and Hayley as roommates. Is it possible Maddie has a bise ual side she's never explored but has been their with her over ten year friendship with Olivia and Lexi? I'm not saying she does, just that now that she's out on her own, there's a lot of material that could be explored there as well.

just a good time.

So I'm just gonna get it out there that I paused demon hunter to read this quick and I don't regret it one bit. It was a lot more heartfelt than j was expecting and I resonated with the characters more than I anticipated.

I gotta be honest just judging by the cover and title I was sorta expecting a steamy spicy adventure. Now there is spice and it is very nice but its also a lot more heartwarming than I expected. Something I greatly appreciate is we get the different perspectives from the characters. Really it's something I look for in all haremlit stuff which is what I've been reading a lot of lately, but this has it and does a very good job with it.

I don't know what a sequel would look like but I would be happy to read more about Ethan, Olivia, and Lexie.

Perfect

Thankyou. This book was perfect as is, focusing on aspects of the genre what I really like and without it being too much at all. Focusing on emotional parts of the relationships, the inner workings, what is needed per person in a poly and what they actually get out of it is perfect. I believe the book was perfect as is without need for a sequel so much that I cannot even imagine what would be added for the next book. You have a way with words and style which goes a long way with me.

Well done slow build

Slice of life, May December romance, harem adult situations

Single Dad Ethan, his daughter, Maddie, help out Maddie's good friends Olivia and Lexie. Because Olivia and Lexie are bi, both parents have made their lives difficult, so when they are in danger of becoming homeless, Maddie and Ethan provide a safe space. Slow build with believable characters, good pacing. POV changes, but it really helps that we are told at the beginning who the focus will be. Excellent editing. Already purchased the rest of the trilogy.

Really enjoyed.

fun

A little different than Dalton’s other books, but it works really well. Fun and mostly light hearted, I enjoyed this book a lot and would love a follow up book. But the story doesn’t end on some horrible cliffhanger like some of his other books making this a great weekend read! (read via KU)

Great Read

Well thought out story. Characters are fully developed and interesting. Character background was detailed and character interaction was realistic. This was one of the best stories I’ve read this year. It appears to have been written as a standalone book however, the author left a couple of unfinished hooks that could be used to continue with a second book.

Mr. Dalton has written a number of harun novel but advertised Bikini Days as something different. And so it Is! It is a story of interpersonal relationships between friends, lovers and family. Well written and paced to hold the readers attention. Bravo!

A good start to a thriller

The story does a good job building a relation foundation. There is a slow buildup of feelings between the lovers while maintaining a strong anchor with the original family structure. A well thought out evolution of relationships centered around the male MC. No spoilers here, grin!

Feel good book

Bikini days is certainly a book written for a particular target audience. I happen to fall into that target audience. As such, it is a fun book to read. It makes you feel good about all the characters. And the sly nods to Mr Dalton’s other books makes it feel like part of a shared multiverse.

Tremendous writing

The author does a marvelous job of capturing the emotional reality of the situations the characters are in and helping them to grow and overcome the problems dropped on them. The story provides such an emotional uplifting as the characters become closer and realize what they have together. Looking forward to Book 2!

wonderful slice of life romance

Great story with little drama. I’d you like his other work you’ll like this. It takes place in his shared universe as well, so while there is no magic there are Easter eggs.

My kind of book

I really liked the way the MC took care of all the people in his life and the way he handled the relationships. I’m not a fan of girl on girl but he was able to handle it really well and was not judgmental. Overall I really enjoyed the warm feelings it gave me

Fun to read; pleasure to have read

This was a good story, well-told. It wasn't home-workey. Just a well-humored, spicy, well-paced read for at home, on the beach, or around the campfire (the spiciness will help to keep you warm.
