David Ray Wilkerson was an American Christian evangelist, best known for his book The Cross and the Switchblade. He was the founder of the addiction recovery program Teen Challenge, and founding pastor of the non-denominational Times Square Church in New York.
Wilkerson's widely distributed sermons, such as "A Call to Anguish", are known for being direct and frank against apostasy and serious about making the commitment to obey Jesus' teachings. He emphasized such Christian beliefs as God's holiness and righteousness, God's love toward humans and especially Christian views of Jesus. Wilkerson tried to avoid categorizing Christians into distinct groups according to the denomination to which they belong.
Wilkerson was killed in a car crash in Texas on April 27, 2011.
After reading several books on the topic of covenant, this one was extremely refreshing. It is written totally in layman's terminology, and makes the subject matter so personal that the reader can relate to it. I recommend it for Christians, unbelievers, Bible students, theologians, and scholars alike. (Some theologians and scholars need to recognize that layman's terms are acceptable). :)
A selection of sermons. I still found it hard to get at the core of David's teaching in this area. I sense he is talking about the need to draw from the Spirit rather than simply feeling guilty or a failure...And that many tears and much repentance may not lead to the true change needed......
This book covers some important theological points about the New Covenant and offers encouragement for struggling believers. However, Wilkerson still had trouble at some times separating the New Covenant from the Old Covenant. At least it is a much more scriptural alternative to some of the other stuff that it out there! An even better book would be Dr. Stan Newton's "Glorious Covenant".
