It’s been over twenty years since Cass Marshall’s relationship fell apart, and she returned home to Bellbird Bay. Now, although happy with the success of her beachwear business, Cass often longs for someone special to share her life.
Nursing the wounds of a failed marriage, Mick Roberts has finally accepted his ex has moved on with her life. Determined to avoid his daughter’s attempts at matchmaking, he immerses himself in his whale-watching business.
When family sickness brings the two together, Cass wonders if her life is about to take a turn for the better. But with Mick’s ex-wife also being Cass’s best friend, a seed of doubt emerges.
This doubt intensifies when Cass’s recently widowed ex arrives in town, determined to use any means to drive a wedge between Cass and Mick as he fights for a second chance.
Can Bellbird Bay work its magic again and provide a happy ever after for Cass and Mick, or are they destined to spend the rest of their lives alone?
After a career in education, Maggie Christensen began writing contemporary women’s fiction portraying mature women facing life-changing situations. Her travels inspire her writing, be it her frequent visits to family in Oregon, USA or her home on Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast. Now living with her husband of thirty years on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, she loves walking on the deserted beach in the early mornings and having coffee by the river on weekends. When Cass Marshall received the call from her sister in London to ask her if she would have Justin, her son; Cass' nephew, to stay, the words that Vi was saying about Justin made her wary. But she agreed, and before long nineteen year old Justin arrived from the UK. Cass and Vi's mother was in the Bellbird Bay nursing home, not expected to last much longer. Cass had been her mother's carer with Vi so far away, and the heartbreak Cass was feeling was difficult. Justin went with his aunt to meet his grandmother, but was distressed at how she was. Cass learned from Justin that his father wanted Justin to follow him into law, and Justin hated it. So it was Cass' job to "sort him out".
Mick Roberts was a changed man after his second heart attack, and was doing as his doctor told him. He and his brother Pete had had to put their father into the nursing home after the fall that had broken his hip - the home they'd all lived in was too big for their father now. Once he'd recovered from surgery, would the cantankerous old man agree to enter the over 55's place, where he'd own his own cottage? Mick had recently caught up with Cass, a woman he'd known a long time, and there seemed to be a spark between them. Could anything come of it? Both of them had things they'd rather forget about their pasts - could they be happy together?
Happy Ever After in Bellbird Bay is the 9th and final book in The Bellbird Bay series by Aussie author Maggie Christensen and once again I really enjoyed it. Catching up with the locals where the surf was always good, the whale watching cruises an experience to look forward to, the Surf Club's meals were raved about - and old Ruby Sullivan watched over her town; Bellbird Bay is somewhere I'd love to at least holiday at, if not move to :) I'm sad to be saying goodbye to them all, but the author mentioned a few of Bellbird Bay's locals could pop up in her new, upcoming series which will be set in the fictional town of Pelican Crossing, set on the coast of Queensland. Highly recommended.
With thanks to the author for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
This is our last trip to Bellbird Bay and I will miss the friends I have made, so many wonderful characters and for our last visit we see Cass who owns Sassy’s find the love she deserves with longtime resident Mick Roberts who runs the whale watching cruises, it is time for Mick to find love.
Cass moved back home to Bellbird Bay many years ago after a failed relationship and has made a good life for herself here, she owns her own business but she would love to find someone to share her life with.
Mick has been through a broken marriage a couple of health scares, he does have a beautiful daughter, Jo who has recently moved backed to Bellbird Bay and she is determined to help her father find love again, will she succeed?
Cass and Mick have known each other since they were young, but with Mick being Cass’s best friends ex it is probably better if they both ignore the pull they have towards each other, but when Cass’s nephew arrives from England and starts working with Mick on the boat this brings them closer together, will they finally find what they both want and deserve?
Another lovely romance in a beautiful setting, love doesn’t always run smoothly and there are a few ups and downs put in their path, but in the end Bellbird Bay works its magic again.
I do highly recommend this one and the series and I do look forward to the new series from Maggie Christensen, it is sure to be filled with lots of love and happiness.
My thanks to the author for my digital copy to read and review.
Thank you Maggie for gifting us a copy to read and review. I have just made my last visit to Bellbird Bay as the series has now concluded. A picturesque coastal town that epitomises community with a mix of locals who welcome newcomers. A place where second chance love flourishes and age is only a number. Cass is a local who once lived in Sydney and worked on television. A relationship with a handsome star resulted in heartbreak. Seeing a news story that the star recently lost his wife sparks an emotive response from Cass. Regret and desire surface. Justin is a long lost nephew sent from the UK to live with her. His visit will change her life and test her relationship with her sister. Meeting Mick will fill her heart with warmth but also test her. It’s never too late to open your heart. What a way to conclude a series. This was a superb read and loved seeing all the locals I’ve met before pop up. I really enjoyed the strained relationship between the sisters and the history behind the tension. As they say all good things must come to an end and I’m encouraged that a new bundle of stories in a new town and plethora of characters will find themselves on pages in the near future.
Cass has been back in Bellbird Bay for over 20 years. She needs some love in her life, but does she have time with her business?
Mick loves whales, and has a matchmaking daughter. The way they meet is realistic, and the sense of community in Bellbird Bay is as amazing as it is in the other books I have reviewed.
I'm sad the series is over and feel Maggie Christensen wrapped it up well. In Bellbird Bay, she has created a memorable town with memorable characters and the books are unforgettable.
I need to go back to the beginning of the series to catch up, but the Bellbird Bay series is one I highly recommend.
Thanks to Maggie Christensen for writing the books. The ones I have had the pleasure of reviewing are unique, and the backdrop of Bellbird Bay is spectacular.
Thanks also to Rachel's Random Resources for this eARC and the others in the series in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
I really enjoyed reading Maggie Christensen's newly released book, "Happy Ever After in Bellbird Bay." It is book nine in Bellbird Bay series, but it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel. Maggie Christensen is 'the queen of mature age fiction' and her characters are so realistic and well developed that they "step off the page". I love going to the small picturesque, fictional seaside town of Bellbird Bay on Queensland's Sunshine Coast in Australia, meeting new characters and 'catching up' with others.
I highly recommend this heart-warming and uplifting story of friends, family and second chances. 5 stars
Cass Marshall has watched one of her best friends, Greta, fall in love but she knows that her chance for love is well and truly gone. She was badly burned years ago and she is not going back Although...she has always had a bit of a thing for Greta's ex, Mick, but she knows that she could ever act on that attraction. After all, Mick had a reputation for being a ladies man back in the day.
The reality is Cass doesn't have time for romance anyway. Her mother is in a nursing home. Some days she recognises Cass but most of the time she doesn't. And Cass is bearing this burden alone as her sister lives in London. What she doesn't expect that her sister will send her nephew Justin to live with her to get him away from a bad crowd. The biggest issue with Justin really appears to be that he doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps.
Mick has now accepted that his ex Greta has moved on, so he is throwing himself into his business running a whale watching business. However, he and his brother have responsibility for ensuring that theirdad is getting adequate care, and so he too has a parent in the nursing home.
Maggie never disappoints with her mature adult romances and this book is no exception. You will love Mick and Cass’s story as they deal with their careers, siblings, parents, exes and pasts. You will not be able to put this book down with its amazing plot.
It was a failed – and perhaps rather unwise – romance that brought Cass home to Bellbird Bay, where she’s made a real success of Sassy’s, her beachwear boutique. Every morning starts with coffee with her best friend Greta who runs the nearby Birds of a Feather, and – as you might already know – has recently found happiness in her life. It’s made Cass reflect on her life a little – she’s contentedly alone, but might like to find a relationship of her own – but the only man who’s piqued her interest is Greta’s ex-husband Mick, and that would be far too complicated for all sorts of reasons.
Mick himself had always hoped he might get together with Greta again, but that wasn’t to be. In his younger days, he had a bit of a reputation for womanising – but, after a few recent health scares and taken in hand by daughter Jo, he’s now a reformed character, known around town for his successful whale-watching business rather than his romantic exploits. His daughter would like to see him settled in a new relationship though, pushing him towards a friend she works with – but the only woman he’s ever found himself attracted to, even though she seems uninterested, is Cass.
Cass acquires an unexpected guest – her nephew arrives from England, sent by her sister to for an extended stay to get him away from some troubles in his own life. And when he starts working for Mick on his boat, it begins to bring the pair closer together – but there are real obstacles to them ever being more than friends, and more than a few false starts, misunderstandings and unwelcome complications along the way.
I really think this might have been my favourite in the series – the tentative mature second chance romance I always so enjoy, but laced with family issues, friendship complications and emotional dilemmas that made the whole story particularly relatable while adding real depth to the story. And the wonderful community of Bellbird Bay certainly plays its part too, with plenty of opportunities to catch up with old friends – but, as always, no issues in picking up the threads of their stories for a first time visitor.
Yes, of course, I’ll miss my walks on the beach and along the boardwalk, choosing from the menu while sitting on the balcony at the surf club, popping into the shops and stopping for a coffee with whichever of my friends might be sitting at the pavement tables – and watching the next generation of surf champions finding success. But it’s time to move on to Pelican Crossing, glimpsed during Mick’s outing to find a second boat to grow his business – and I’m very much looking forward to finding out more.
This really has been the loveliest series, and this book provided the most perfect conclusion – very much recommended to all.
This is not my first book in the Bellbird Bay series, and I have actually reviewed a few of them!
Although this isn’t my first book in the series, I have not read all of them and I did not read them in order, but this is a series that does not need to be read one after the other and all stand alone very well.
Even though I haven’t read all the books, and they can stand alone, wow did I love knowing some of the characters from previous books. This book by itself really brings you into the small town feel and really gets you up to speed with all the characters, but knowing the characters from before really made me feel like I was returning home in a sense.
Sadly this will be the last book in the series, which is really hard to believe! There is hope that a few of the locals will find a spot in some of Maggie Christensen’s new books, and I know I will be keeping an eye out for that!
Mick and Cass seem to be pulled together, but of course, there are also things–like life– pulling them away from each other. I enjoyed seeing both of them deal with the issues inside of themselves while trying to figure out what is best for themselves when looking at their budding relationship.
This series always has a mature way to look at relationships and one’s situations. This is an aspect that many romance books lack, so it is a breath of fresh air to see so many adults acting in a realistic way that makes me care for them more.
I have enjoyed every trip I took to Bellbird Bay, and still have a few more trips to go to round out the rest of the series. I highly recommend this book/series to someone that needs a light read, or a fun series that can pull them into the beautiful setting of Bellbird Bay.
I know I say it every time I review a book from this series but I’d really love to visit Bellbird Bay! I have in my mind what the characters and the bay look like and feel that I know them! For me one of the things I like most is that the main characters that this series centres around are all slightly older, often finding love the second time round. This story focuses on Cass and Mick. Cass has always found Mick attractive but he is her best friend Greta’s ex husband and is known for his womanising ways. Mick is very taken with Cass when he gets to know her better but with each of them having to deal with other matters and opinions of others will they end up as a couple or not? So easy to read and follow with recurring characters this is a lovely read about community, friendship, second chance and love. I would highly recommend reading this fabulous series and although this is the last one I’m delighted to read that Maggie Christensen is writing a new series that’ll be based in Pelican Crossing which is up the coast from Bellbird Bay. I can’t wait!
I haven’t read the earlier books in the series so I was a bit lost at times with so many people and their connections. Cassie made a mistake that she had out behind her but is ready for love. I liked how Justin found his footing and spread his wings. I wanted to dump Vi off the whaling boat, what a pill. But I wanted to sail with Mick watching whales and other interesting things 😁Good thing Jo was a busybody because there would be no relationships without her running interference. It’s a good story about finding your happily ever after. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Cala Publishing for the early read.
It’s sad that the Bellbird Bay books are coming to an end. I’ve enjoyed all of them and think I will miss Ruby the most. I look forward to meeting the people in Pelican Cove.
At last the Bellbird Bay series comes to an end. This time it’s about Mick who runs the whale watching with his boat and Cass who owns the local swimwear boutique. Cass has never married after being hurt by a former man who promised the world and then let her down. Mick has been on his own for a few years after his marriage broke up. They are brought together when Cass’s nephew arrived from the UK and gets a job working on Micks boat. The road to romance is never a smooth one but they do find each other eventually. I loved the way Maggie brought in a reference to her next series Pelican Bay in this novel and I look forward to starting that series in the future.
Happy Ever After In Bellbird Bay by Maggie Christensen is another wonderful offering that will wrap around you as you read. It is the ninth and final book in the Bellbird Bay series which has been a total delight. Each visit has felt like a hug in a book and I am sorry that the series has ended. Bellbird Bay is a place we all want to visit – if only for a few hours as we sink into the books. Bellbird Bay is a place of community, care and compassion. It is where people look out for each other as lives are entwined. It is a pure delight to meet up with familiar faces as we focus in on a different main character in each book. All are absolutely charming, likable and realistic. I love the fact that many of the characters are over fifty and show that life is for living and having fun whatever your age. We see the new set of problems that elderly parents bring – dementia that robs us of our loved one’s piece by piece while they are still alive. Also, there is the problem of diminishing independence after an accident, meaning that assisted lived is needed. This is met with stubbornness and fear – fear of selling the family home and losing memories. “I remember Mum there … but you’d take your memories with you.” Memories are always portable. At the opposite end of the scale, we meet a teen from Britain whose father wants him to study law but this is stifling. “What a relief it is to get out from under Dad’s expectations for me.” People should be free to live their own dreams. There are accidental misunderstandings as well as deliberate misdirection. Both threaten to derail lives. And there is match-making as happy fulfilled couples believe their loved ones need a push in order to find a partner. I have adored my trips to Bellbird Bay. It feels like the end of an era but I am looking forward to greeting familiar faces as they pop up in Maggie Christensen’s new series set in the nearby fictional town of Pelican Crossing. I received a free copy from the author. A favorable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
Maggie Christensen’s Happy Ever After in Bellbird Bay is a charming, emotional and delightful read that touches the heart and lifts the spirit.
Cass Marshall has no cause for complaint. She runs a successful beachwear business, has a good circle of friends and a life most people would give their right arm for. However, Cass would love nothing more than to have someone special to share her life with; something which sadly seems to have eluded her thus far. Meanwhile, Mick Roberts has had to face facts and resign himself to the fact that his ex has moved on and that he needs to draw a line under the past and try and make a new life for himself. Despite of his daughter’s attempts at matchmaking, Mick has resisted thus far, but that could change when an unfortunate turn of events brings him in contact with Cass…
Although she cannot deny that she’s attracted to Mick, Cass also happens to be his ex’s best friend. With Cass’s former partner also back in town determined to win her back and drive a wedge between her and Mick, can a happy ever after be possible for the two of them? Will Bellbird Bay work its magic on Cass and Mick? Or are they destined to spend the rest of their days alone wondering what might have been?
Maggie Christensen’s Happy Ever After in Bellbird Bay is a terrific contemporary women’s fiction novel perfect for losing yourself in on a dreary afternoon. Uplifting, witty and full of pathos and drama, this absorbing tale of second chances, love lost and found and new beginnings will keep readers hooked till the end and eager for the next novel by Maggie Christensen.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Cass, perpetual guest at the wedding, on the road to romance🌊🐋
I really liked the pairing in this romance. Cass is one single lady who realizes that she wants more, and that specifically in the romance department, from her settled life as a shopkeeper in sunny Bellbird Bay. She sees all of her acquaintances getting paired up and longs for the same. Mick, the male lead, is her best friend's ex and has a reputation as a ladies' man. Two important marks against him but....
This story has some realistic depth, with Cass's sister and brother-in-law trying to corral their son Justin into their ambitions for his future, irrespective of his own desires, and both main characters dealing with elderly, frail parents and working with siblings, not necessarily smoothly, on care issues as their loved ones falter and fade. I found this part of the story hit a strong chord with me. And I liked the professional optimism of these characters. They each have established successful businesses and could just continue what they're doing but both are looking for ways to make their businesses even better and have the energy to do it.
Loved the romance and realism and, other than a few found nasty secondary characters who temporarily weave their way in, these characters are warm, friendly, supportive, and just the type of people I'd like to live around. Too bad it's a fictional town on the other side of the world! This was a really good read.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
This series is such a hug in a book, If you've not read it - it is well worth a look! The community of Bellbird Bay takes readers in, Keeping you hoping romance will always win.
A community where all ages are involved, too, Sharing their experiences and what they go through. Ruby Sullivan gives cryptic but accurate clues To what happens in future, whatever they choose.
Cass Marshall is the heroine this time, With her nephew coming to stay - just what is his crime? There's family drama, an ex and a fresh chance But with whom dare she take the risk of romance?
Mick Roberts, whales and a family matchmaker, too, A chance encounter awakens dreams that are new. Dare he take the chance on a possible romance? Will Cass even consider giving him the chance?
A story with family drama a plenty on all sides And an ex causing mischief, someone I can't abide! But this magical community will hopefully win once more As folks are given now opportunities to explore.
A beautiful read to brighten your day With friendships and romance along the way. For my complementary copy, I say thank you, As I share with you this, my honest review.
It’s hard to believe this is the ninth story in Maggie Christensen’s series set in the delightful Queensland beach town, Bellbird Bay. True to Maggie’s particular genre, Happy Ever After in Bellbird Bay meets all our expectations of a warm-hearted, second chance romance as we join Cass and Mick on their journey to their own special happy ever after. Along the way we renew our acquaintance with many of Bellbird Bay’s other citizens who have found unexpected happiness. The younger generation are also present, welcoming Justin, Cass’s English nephew who finds a different kind of happiness. Naturally, the course of true love has its ups and downs, the downs helped along by Ray, a figure from Cass’s secret past. However, truth and common sense prevail. If happy ever after and second chance romance are for you, give yourself a New Year gift and join me for a summer in Bellbird Bay. Thank you, Maggie, for allowing me to be one of your advance readers. I consider it a real pleasure and look forward to travelling further up the coast to Pelican Crossing soon.
Mick, once a womanizer and a surf champion, is trying to settle down now that his ex wife has remarried and appears immensely happy. What he doesn't need is his matchmaking daughter who is determined to help him find the perfect woman!
Cass has known Mick since they were young, but she's his ex's best friend. When her nephew arrives from England and starts working for Mick on his whale watching boat, it brings them together frequently but there are quite a few obstacles thrown in their way. Can they all make this work?
I love these mature romances and will definitely miss these wonderful characters that feel like friends to me, but with just one party, Maggie was able to bring back all of our favorites from the entire Bellbird Bay series. I love this series and very much anticipate her new one in Pelican Bay. Maggie Christensen is a wonderful writer and I highly recommend this incredible series!
Maggie Christensen is one of my favourite authors for solid feel good reading. This is the ninth book in the series and one of the most enjoyable as it follows the journey of Cass and Mick in Bellbird Bay a fictional town in Queensland. I loved to imagine the wonderful scenery, the coastline, the dolphins and wildlife she describes, as I read how the love between Cass and Mick develop. I can recommend this book to anyone
Another outing to Bellbird Bay, one of my favourite fictional towns. Cass enjoys her life, running her beachwear shop Sassy's and visiting her mother in the local nursing home. However she does get lonely sometimes. When her nephew comes out from England to stay for a while, her life changes for the better.
As with all the other books in this series, Maggie has once again brought immense pleasure to readers with her story on Cass and Mick, while also intertwining it around the characters from the earlier books. A really enjoyable read. Thank you Maggie.
I have enjoyed every book in the Bellbird Bay series. Opening a new book is like reconnecting with old friends and making some new friends. It's so good to read about the mature aged characters dealing with life and family issues and finding new love. A warm read that is always over too soon.
Maggie Christensen's books, set in the fictional town of Bellbird Bay, Australia, are a delightful read. She makes the characters so real. There were a few twists to this story, but that added to the suspense. This is her last Bellbird Bay book. I'm sure I will enjoy the new series.
Wonderful series with a book for each character and the twisting turning way they find love as a mature person… each book can be read alone or as a series.i love Maggie’s style of writing so visual you feel like you are in the story too…
Heartwarming story of life with its happiness and heartbreaks Cass ‘s life is good but lonely, but not much can change that for now. Will Mick in her life change that. Absolutely not to be missed.
I loved this book , a refreshing read after some heavier books . Thank you Maggie for bringing Cass's and Mick's happy ending in your ninth book in the series , I thought this was the best yet. The author brought the whale watching trips so vividly into the book , and highlighted some issues which these amazing animals encounter . I loved catching up with characters we had meet in earlier books , its like taking a holiday , as I really feel part of this warm supportive community Thanks to the author for an ARC e copy to read and review, I am looking forward to the next series
