End of season 1: genuinely the most well written and frustrating manhwa I’ve read. Idc what happens as long as Jo and Ian get together at the end

I always forget about this manhwa until I see someone post about the latest chapter, and then I’m without fail insanely invested all over again.
That repeating cycle happened to me again today, but this time was different because oh my lord THE NEW CHAPTER (59)??? As a tjian lover I’m sick (affectionate). I hoard their flashback chapters like they’re gold and this one showed us the first time they crossed that line of friendship into more sixteen years ago. Doyak conveys intimacy and passion without words so beautifully throughout this story, and this might’ve been the best display of that yet.

I’m so serious when I say I want to eat Doyak’s art style. Their rendering/shading/colouring scratches my brain in the best way. Things aren’t really muted, but ambient lighting and dark backgrounds are often used to create really visually stunning scenes or character framings. The main three look incredible and the way their expressions convey so much nuanced emotion really impresses me. Love love love this manhwa, it’s definitely one of my favourites just visually alone!

Praying and manifesting for a tjian endgame, but I think Jo’s sweet too! My favourite trope is best friends to lovers, though, and the deep passion in TJ and Ian’s relationship—especially as is being revealed in the current chapters—really does it for me. Can’t wait to keep reading!!

No recuerdo exactamente cuando empecé a leer Wet Sand, pero lo marco ahora mejor.

A ver, en parte los triángulos amorosos me repelen, pero este lo están manejando bien al explicar bien el contexto de todas las partes y hacerlo interesante.

Ian me cae bien, es muy autodestructivo en casi que todas sus decisiones y esto también se traslada a sus relaciones amorosas. Pero aún así es lindo ver su desarrollo y quiero que las cosas mejoren para él T_T

En esta primera temporada todavía no conocemos toooodo el contexto de su relación con TJ, pero es interesante toda la codependencia y falta de comunicación que manejan. Es casi un círculo vicioso del que no pueden salir o a veces se encuentran sin querer salir de él. Entiendo todo esto, aunque secretamente quiero que TJ ya suelte (la casita con garaje para las motos de Ian T_T). Como nota aparte menciono algo de sus escenas: aunque son escenas horny y están muy bien dibujadas... también son muy deprimentes XD. No me refiero a malas, sino que se nota el desgaste emocional de la relación y no dejan de deprimirme cuando cogen. Es una cosa...

Ahora sobre Jo, es muy cuqui y me cae bien. Apoyo la relación con Ian, es una influencia muy positiva y hay mucho confort en sus interacciones, aunque por el comienzo un poco angsty porque Ian no está listo para iniciar con tan buen pie, pero poco a poco se resuelve. También estuve leyendo unos comentarios sobre su desarrollo de la tercera temporada y lo de que toma una ruta "oscura" me parece muy exagerado, mucho más cuando tienes a TJ en la puta cara. En fin, que mejor hubiera ignorado eso XD. Jo es humano, los tres son humanos y como tal tienen issues que resolver, así que la ruta que llevan me parece bien.

La trama de los gángsters es la que menos me atrae, aunque sí es bien importante para el desarrollo de TJ e Ian, pero los personajes me tienen más cautivada así que no es grave. Por ahora terminé la tercera temporada y estoy esperando actualización. Veré también como comento la segunda temporada :D

the way you can just feel the love and longing between TJ and Ian through the screen. how am I meant to believe that Ian has better chemistry with Jo? he just seems someone that Ian needs for time to pass.

rated this one 4 stars because the season ended with the infamous tjian hugging scene + the cover is the sexiest obviously because its TJ.

Complicat veure la llum al final del túnel amb aquesta sèrie i més encara quan no soc mai de l'equip vencedor... A partir d'aquest volum sento que la balança s'inclina a favor del Jo, com a porta a una vida allunyada de la delinqüència, però he llegit més capítols i em sembla més tòxic i obsessiu que l'altre, un llop amb pell de xai de manual. Crec que la relació del TJ i l'Ian té una base molt sòlida per tot el trauma viscut, però que sempre trontolla pels perills a què estan sotmesos. No soc neutral, m'encanten massa i tenen una química que va més enllà de qualsevol rotllet passatger. Dels triangles amorosos més complicats i ambigus que he llegit mai, espero que tingui un final mínimament feliç :')

Die 3 Teile umfassen die erste Staffel.
Die Zeichnungen sind unglaublich toll und detailreich. Die Story finde ich sehr spannend und im Gegensatz zu den meisten, wünsche ich mir tatsächlich einen guten Ausgang für alle drei. Wie auch immer der aussehen mag. Jo ist hier so der heilende Part, denn die Beziehung zwischen Youngwoo und TJ ist eher ungesund. Ich mag die verschiedenen Dynamiken und das Gangstermilieu ist schon immer sehr fesselnd für mich.
Staffel 2 hält da also bestimmt so einiges parat, da die meistens ne Nummer härter wird.

As mentioned in volume 2, I’m waiting patiently for the English print to get here in 2025 but I’m at chapter 60 on Tappytoons so I’m marking this as read as I’m guessing I’m probably pass the equivalent of volume 3 at this time in reading

Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever read a story where I was so EQUALLY invested in both love options. Since the series starts from Joe’s POV I feel like TJ wouldn’t be the SL but rather the SL for the ML? I don’t know. I just know of love the art so much and I’m fully invested in this story.

Ian es peor que TJ, por mucho que queráis redimirle. TJ es víctima de su obsesión, Ian quiere abarcarlo todo y se va a llevar a Jo por delante, le van a destrozar la vida entre los dos y va a acabar siendo el mayor mafioso del mundo. Mark my words.

Overall, Wet Sand is not like other BL manga/manhwa I’ve read before. I’ve been reading manga and manhwa for over 20 years. The characters are so rich to the point they seem alive. The author knows psychology and uses it to the advantage of the plot. The story “seems” like your typical gang-trope. But what story now is based on an absolutely unique setting? It’s the characters that makes this story come to life and I LOVE IT.

this manhwa hands down is one of the most gut wrenching, beautiful tbings I have ever fkn read ... the emotions I am feeling are very similar to how I felt while reading banana fish... taejoon and youngwoo are literally heartbreakingly gorgeous

also technically idrk what volume i am up to as I read by chapters online ... but I caught up to date this morning and fucj.... always was and still am tj x ian

It's so embarrassing that I read this. The plot started plotting, but idk if I can continue this series and still possess any dignity. 10/10 recommend for the vibes if you lack self-respect and aren't afraid of the laundry list of trigger warnings that come with this manga. It's Mafia Boss/ex Mafia Prince/cute boy love triangle (read at your own risk).
