Rate this book
The Four Gospels United as One - See every Gospel Word and Deed of Jesus Christ in Order.

This advanced Four Gospel Harmony and word-for-word Merger presents all of the events from the full Gospel Life of Jesus Christ in chronological order.

Synoptic (syn + optic) means "seeing together” or “seeing as one", and the text of this book is reprinted from the unified fifth column of the Four Gospel Harmony and word-for-word Merger, "FIVE COLUMN: The Synoptic Gospel", which chronologically aligns all of the sets of parallel verses from the four Gospel accounts according to sixteen-step Harmonization and Merging process.

With the overlap and duplication between the parallel sections of verses harmonized on a true word-for-word basis, the resulting clear and easy-to-read unified text is almost 22% shorter to read, compared to reading the four individual Gospel accounts back-to-back.

Dates and locations, along with a map of Israel and of Jerusalem, show when and where each event happened, so that you can follow all of the action as Jesus travelled during the years of His public ministry.

Understanding the meaning and message of the Gospel story is further enhanced with 350+ references to the Old Testament Scriptures, along with the historical people and places that are mentioned.

I write to simplify and clarify understanding the meaning of the Holy Scriptures of The Bible. I have published two main works at this time, the first an expanded concordance of the entire Bible, and the other a unified word-for-word Merger of the four Gospel texts.

The "Sola Scriptura Topical Bible" series is an expanded concordance that lists all of the verses related to important spiritual topics and themes in full context, so that reading a topical Chapter will show you every reference to the subject in The Bible. Clarity is enhanced with each topical keyword displayed in bold font. Reading all of the related verses back-to-back gives a unique prespective on how The Bible uses the spiritual symbol or theme, using only the words of The Scriptures, without any commentary, so that each person will be inspired with an understanding about what the topic means. (solascriptura.ca)

"FIVE COLUMN" is an very advanced four Gospel Harmony that dispalys the parallel verses from the four Gospels chronologically in four columns side-by-side. A word-for-word Merger of the parallel verses is compiled in the Fifth Column, known as "The Synoptic Gospel". The "Verse-By-Verse Edition" available on Amazon is a great resource to quickly see the parallel stories and teachings from the Gospel, while the "Word-For-Word Edition" (available only on the fivecolumn.com website) shows how the Gospel verses were split into individual words using a sixteen step harmonization process to produce the unified Fifth Column merged text. (fivecolumn.com)

"The Synoptic Gospel" is the precise word-for-word Merger (synopsis) of the combined texts from the four parallel Gospels of the FIfth Column of "FIVE COLUMN" that is laid out chronologically with dates and locations for each Gospel Scene. It includes Chapter Maps of Israel and Jerusalem showing where Jesus Christ visited during His life and Ministry. Understanding of the sequence of the Gospel story is enhanced by seeing all of the events in order. Without the duplication between the parallel sections of the four individual Gospel texts this unified Gospel account is more than 21% shorter than reading the four Gospels back-to-back. (synopticgospel.com)

"The Red Letter Gospel" is a red letter edition of "The Synoptic Gospel" with all of The Words of Jesus Christ in bright red letters, making it easy to see everything that He said and taught within the combined Gospel story. Almost 48% of this unified Synoptic Gospel is the red letters words of Jesus Christ. (theredlettergospel.com)

The Synoptic Gospel: The Story of The Life of Jesus is a compilation or “harmony” of the four gospels - a single, chronological story of Jesus’s life and teachings. The original text used is from the New American Standard Version of the Bible.

The book’s text is divided first into chapters, then acts, and finally scenes. Each scene begins with the location as well as a date and then a note as to which particular gospel(s) the following text is derived from. The text is numbered for easy reference and any text that aligns with text from the Old Testament is also numbered and then referred to at the end of the section.

At the back of the book is a decently sized section describing some of the processes Mr. John used to combine the gospels as well as some history of the gospels themselves. This section also includes links to additional information on his website which adds even more detail. There are also a couple small maps included here as well.

Why should you read a harmonized version of the gospels? The first thought that comes to my mind is that this would be a great way to read the gospels for the first time. Having the events of Jesus’s life all together is a helpful way to establish a general idea of His story before digging into the individual gospels in more depth. And reading them in chronological order helps to put them in better overall context. And, of course, there is also the benefit of a faster reading experience.

The author generously asks for feedback at the end of the book as well. The only thing I can think to suggest is possibly to add the actual line of related Old Testament text to the Old Testament references at the end of each section. I found myself looking up a corresponding verse from the OT more than once and just having the specific line already there would have saved some time.

Also, it was mentioned that some of the locations and dates are known while others were educated hypotheses. Possibly putting any asterisk next to those that were extrapolated might be a good idea just to be clear as to which are confirmed and which are not.

When reading sections made up from more than one gospel I also found myself wondering exactly which text came from which gospel. Maybe text solely from one gospel could be color-coded to indicate this. Of course, that might be completely infeasible. I did note that Mr. John has also created a five column version of this book with the gospels shown side by side which would be an even better way to see this and also a great way to compare and contrast the gospels.

There was clearly much thought and care used in the creation of this book and I encourage anyone interested to purchase and read a copy.

A grateful “thank you” for my giveaway copy.

The Synoptic Gospel

An excellent shuffling of the four gospel narratives into a single telling of the life of Jesus. Another combination that was first arranged by Tatian around 160 CE. A valuable resource for any Bible student.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book through the goodreads giveaways!
"The Synoptic Gospel: The Story of the Life of Jesus" by Daniel John presents a comprehensive narrative of Jesus's life through the lens of the synoptic gospels—Matthew, Mark, and Luke. John’s approach seeks to harmonize these accounts into a cohesive story, offering readers a structured and accessible retelling of the events depicted in these foundational texts.

John’s writing is clear and organized, providing a straightforward account of Jesus’s life and teachings. His effort to integrate the various perspectives of the synoptic gospels results in a unified narrative that may appeal to readers looking for a coherent overview of Jesus’s life.

However, the book’s reliance on the synoptic gospels means it may not offer much new insight to those already familiar with these texts. The narrative is presented in a conventional manner, and the book does not delve deeply into scholarly debates or alternative interpretations of the gospel accounts.

Overall, "The Synoptic Gospel: The Story of the Life of Jesus" by Daniel John is a useful resource for readers seeking a consolidated retelling of the synoptic gospels. It serves as a solid introduction to the life of Jesus for those interested in the traditional biblical narrative but may not offer additional perspectives for more advanced readers.

An interesting way to present the New Testament to readers. Once one accustoms him or herself to layout , presentation and format “ The Synoptic Gospels” gives the scripture reader a greater, holsitic
comprehension of Jesus’ mission to spread the gospel throughout his homeland peoples, and to everyone, everywhere it reaches to this day.
The reader also sees how the differing personal viewpoint experiences of the apostles affect their letters and memoirs. All in all , a worthwhile addition to getting a better sense of time , place, events and meaning of the Bible. It is not meant to replace the Bible, but to supplement it. In that itdoes a good job.

Pro: It was good to have the combined information of the life of Jesus chronological.

Con: I didn’t like the verse numbers because it didn’t match up with what I remember. It would have been better to left this numbering system off.
