Sarah Faeth Sanders

Sarah Faeth Sanders has been a storyteller since she was a little girl, when she would sit her parents down and spin new tales on makeshift stages, always ending her narratives with the mysterious phrase “A Duck and a Rabbit” instead of “The End.” This tendency to avoid absolutes followed her into her career as an author with the release of her debut novel, Soulmates: A Metaphysical Love Story, a reincarnation romance. This tale of destined love and found family plays with time and avoids absolutes like “The End” through its exploration of the multiple lives of its characters. Soulmates quickly turned into The Metaphysical Love Stories series, a series of standalone reincarnation romance novels. Book two, Fated Tides, released in January 2024.

Sarah grew up in the beautiful, wide-open spaces of Northeastern Nevada. She received her BA in Sociology in 2012. She attended a private Christian university, inspired by her conversion to Evangelical Christianity in high school. She began the process of deconstruction at this college and would eventually leave Christianity behind and embrace her more spiritual upbringing. Sarah’s process of healing from religious trauma and Evangelical patriarchal control informs much of her creative work.

Sarah and her partner, Adam, welcomed their son Damian into the world in 2017. In 2022, she received her MS in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She currently lives in the Pacific Northwest, where she draws inspiration from her natural surroundings to create new worlds. Sarah aspires to become an elusive hedge witch someday, increasingly one with the forest, communicating with the outer world solely through her increasingly whimsical and cryptic stories and a few friendly crows trained to deliver handwritten messages.

Sometimes when you love a book SO MUCH you worry about the next book from the author letting you down. Well fear not. Fated Tides DELIVERED!

I do want to go into this review saying this book is VERY DIFFERENT from the first story. The characters are obviously in a totally different life so you aren’t getting the same ride. Soulmates was EXTREMELY emotional for me. I cried so much while reading that book. This book, though emotional and heartfelt, did not give me quite as many heartbreaks. What it did give was amazing pirate adventures, lots of exciting action and love in so many different forms!

When I heard Sarah was expanding on the pirate past life from her first book I KNEW I was going to try to get an ARC copy (as well as pre-order it) and I am so thankful I did (both). This was such an exciting ride. I can’t wait to get my physical copy trophy for my shelves! Thank you for the ARC Sarah and I already can’t wait for what you write next!

Thank you to the author for the copy. This is an honest review. PLEASE read it rather than judging by my star rating.

"Fated Tides: A Metaphysical Love Story" by Sarah Faeth Sanders has a unique premise. The story follows Zander as he embarks on a journey to join the crew of a mysterious pirate captain, Ace, after a chance meeting.

The novel has meta-commentary at the edges (as it says on the tin), adding an intriguing layer to the narrative without becoming overly distracting. However, I did wish for a more pronounced exploration of the reincarnation theme. The reincarnation aspect could have been further emphasized to distinguish the romance from the typical insta-love trope. This just seems like such an interesting premise, but it fell flat for me.

Sanders presents a well-crafted and well-written tale, with the most captivating moments stemming from the glimpses into the characters' lives within other reincarnations. Despite not fully resonating at the time, I do acknowledge that a revisit in the future may yield a different perspective. I'll give it a try again and see if it was just the wrong time.

Overall, "Fated Tides" offers readers a thoughtful exploration of love and destiny across various lifetimes, contributing to the Metaphysical Love Stories series. Give it a try!

I loved the first book in this series, and when the chance to arc read for this one, I nearly jumped out of my seat!

I love how similar, yet different, Fated Tides is from Soulmates. Full of adventure and intrigue, the second installment won't destroy your heart quite the same on its way to a happy ending. It will certainly keep it pumping!

I easily felt like I knew each character as a friend from early on and rooted for them in their own ways. While I was very hopeful for an overall sweet goodbye to them, I was unsure for much of the book.

Forever my favorite part of this series is its look at eternal love. Even when the author decides to write the most soul crushing scenes, she also somehow leaves you with hope each time.

If you're looking for a spicy love adventure with a dazzlingly strong female lead and three of the most charming cohorts, you will love Fated Tides!

I absolutely loved this book, there was so many deep layers written into what seemed like a simple story at first. It was very cathartic to read in so many ways, there are many things the FMC went through that I've experienced in my own life. It's a beautiful read, I love how past lives are interwoven into the story.

This was a 6 Star read for me.

Enjoyable and fun, if a little thin in places.

I wanted to enjoy this story more than I did. I read and adored the first book in the series, Soulmates, and was ecstatic to find out this entry was a pirate story! Unfortunately I feel the writing in this one is lacking something from the offset, at least for my tastes.

Let's start with the characters. Yarrow and Theo are absolutely adorable and lovable as characters, stealing any scene they're in (which is most of them). I enjoyed their dynamic and the dynamic they have with our main character Zander, guiding him through his life as a fresh-faced pirate.

Zander and Ace are a lovely pair, though I don't feel they had much in the way of chemistry to begin with -- something which is harmed further by I understand the character reasons behind Ace and Zander not having much interaction to begin with, and perhaps it's simply the love-at-first-sight trope that I'm overly critical of, but regardless the story spent a lot of time telling me how much Zander adored Ace without actually showing us any reason for it.

And therein lies the main issue I have with this story: telling. Fated Tides spends a LOT of time exposing and showing very little until the final third of the story in my opinion. Some of the exposition is through dialogue which should allow for further opportunity to get to know these characters, however the voices of the characters are difficult to differentiate, sounding far too similar to the narration itself for me to discern anything about the characters besides Yarrow and Theo.

The latter third of the story definitely picks up with plenty of moments that made me smile. It feels like once the cast is stripped back to only Yarrow, Theo and Zander it gives the plot more breathing space and the author is able to fully explore the adventure without being too bogged down with details. Even so, the excitement of the final chapters feels almost unearned on Zander's part -- if not for Theo and Yarrow's close bond and history with Ace I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it as much.

Still, the story reaches a satisfying and sweet conclusion. The supplementary chapters detailing the characters' past lives were once again fascinating and beautiful, especially with the inclusion of fantastical lives set in other universes/timelines which I adore as a concept for reincarnation. This is a solid read for anyone looking for a fun pirate romp with a metaphysical twist and I look forward to seeing where Sanders takes the series from here.

“Two souls- one hopelessly wandering, the other running for her life- yet they’d somehow met in the middle and become each other’s solid ground in which to grow roots. Their lives until that point had been but a series of fractal paths leading ever inward, toward each other.”

Zander left his comfy life in London for adventures in Barbados. So when he runs into a beautiful woman being chased through the woods, he doesn’t hesitate to follow her. Ace is the captain of a pirate ship, The Valerian. She leads a group of moral-ish pirates, who are loyally devoted to her.

“I’m with you,” he said. “Where are we going?” Ace’s eyes sparkled with amusement and pleasure at his question. “Everywhere.”

Ace and Zander are soul mates. They find their way back to each other in every lifetime, no matter the odds or the consequences. I loved seeing these little snippets of their other lives together.

“But there is time. Time for stories to be written, quests to be filled, and worlds to be saved. In this life or the next, there is time.”

If you like cozy books with fated mates, found family, and “touch him/her and die” vibes, this is the book for you. If you love a MMC that rescues his love even though she’s capable of rescuing herself, you’ll love Zander. If you love strong female characters, you need some Ace in your life.

“But I would rather die that be another man who keeps you when you don’t want to be kept.”

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Fated Tides feels like coming home—familiar and comforting in its echoes of Soulmates, yet full of fresh twists, high stakes, and emotional depth. It swept me right back into this world of eternal love, fate, and the beautifully messy business of being human (and maybe more than human).

From the start, I felt like I knew these characters—like they were close friends I was rooting for in totally different ways. The journey was thrilling and, at times, tense—I was never quite sure what kind of goodbye we were heading toward, but I hoped with everything in me it would be a good one.

What always gets me with this series is how it handles love across lifetimes. Even in the heaviest, most heart-wrenching moments, Sanders somehow leaves a thread of hope glimmering. That duality—pain and comfort, heartbreak and healing—is what keeps me coming back.

If you’re craving a spicy, smart, and soul-deep love story with a fierce heroine and three irresistible co-leads, Fated Tides will steal your heart (and maybe gently return it). It’s romantic, adventurous, and surprisingly philosophical—and I loved every second of it.

3.5 ⭐️

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and the second one hits differently. One of the things I loved about Soul Mates was the specificity, not only in the romance, but in the intensity of certain exchanges (especially in the darker moments). Fated Tides is a bit more whimsical, a bit more general, and reads more like a fairytale than the first book.

For me, that made Fated Tides a bit less memorable and impactful. On the other hand, the whole point of this series is to explore different types of relationships in different worlds/settings, all of which tie together at their core. It makes sense that the style of storytelling would differ from one book to the next, and that I would resonate more with some than others. Having the main story AND the interludes written in a dreamy style blurred the contrast between the two.

That said, this was a fun pirate adventure, and the plot of this book was sufficiently different that it was unique from the first one. An enjoyable new adventure with twist I didn’t see coming. 😊

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author; my review is my own.

I received this ARC from Sarah herself, I would jump in front of a bus for this woman and her incredible writing. I was so excited for this and it lived up to every single ounce of hype I stored up for it in my brain.

I cried nineteen times during Soulmates, I only cried 3 times during Fated Tides but they were gut wrenching soul crushing cry sessions. The way that Sarah is able to bounce around between these different lives and keep us still on track with the current storyline will never cease to amaze me. I beg for us to have a book on the Space Bountyhunter Life.

I am in love with Zander, and he is such a sweet and gentle man who would do anything for Ace. Including murder and stealing pirate ships to get to her. Oh how I swoon~

I’ve already recommended this book to several people and mentioned it in my podcast. I cannot wait to read the next book whenever we are blessed with it, and I will read anything this author comes out with.

The ending had me comatose for an hour. RIP my soul 🪦

Go read it if you love pirates, love, adventure, strong female characters, golden retriever boyfriends, and deep philosophical writing.

"I tried to go home.

But... I just had this awful feeling about walking away from you. Like I was walking towards nothing... and away from everything."

First of all, I would like to express my huge gratitude and appreciation towards @sarah_faeth_sanders for personally sending me her second book 🤍 It was an honour to be able to read her writings again.

Fated Tides, while bringing the same themes as the first book, is a standalone pirate romance that can be enjoyed by many. It brought us to the world of pirates that were led by Ace, the fmc. When Zander met Ace by "accident", he decided to leave his village and chase the mysterious pirate captain across the sea, just like he chased her in every lifetime before.

The plot? GOOD.
The writing? 👨‍🍳💋
The execution? GOOD.

Zander has a soft spot in my heart. His naivety and gentleness is attractive to read and witness. I love to see that he has such a strong will to go after what he wanted. I also love to see how his character grow throughout the pages and it was poignantly described in this book.

As much as I love Zander as the main male character, it didn't happen the same to Ace. I didn't grow fond of her especially after this one incident occured and she didn't "really" take accountability on what has happened. She left Zander in the dark instead. And maybe that's why I don't really like her, because she hurt Zander 😂

Although I enjoy this book, it still could not top Soulmates. Guess, Soulmates still have a special place in my heart and soul 🤍

This book is now available for purchase! And please support this author, she's pro 🍉!!

Beyond brilliant. As expected after reading Soulmates, I experienced Fated Tides as nothing less than masterful. This is not just a clever, beautifully crafted love story. I love the continued exploration of the metaphysical, the adventure, the boldness of the characters. Peppered throughout are glimpses of other lives our main characters have lived in which their souls called to each other. Something about this was deeply soothing, even while I was enticed by the main narrative as it unfolded. Sanders’ writing style is captivating, too; it evokes a sense of grandness without becoming cheesy or overwrought. I would recommend this book for fans of adventure, but also for those fascinated by thought experiments, the nature of the soul, and concepts of time.

Such a fantastical, beautifully written story!

The story paints such vivid pictures of morally just pirates and their adventures(and some misadventures) on the high seas.

The beauty of the love shared between two souls, transcending incarnations, always finding each other, is heartwarming.

The story is moderately paced, and does a splendid job of keeping the reader hooked. The other reincarnations, interspersed within this tale of swashbuckling, are delightfully written, as well.

Overall, it's a riveting story.

I would definitely recommend it.

“Fated Tides: A Metaphysical Love Story” is a captivating journey through time and across the seas. Fated Tides is a fantastic romantic adventure. It’s Zorro meets Our Flag Means Death, but set in the Caribbean. Great action, tons of comedic moments and banter, and a something-that-just-feels-so-right romance. Sanders unique voice and use of storytelling elements are a joy to read. I highly recommend this book!

This series is interconnected, not sequential. You don’t need to read Soulmates first, but if you enjoy Fated Tides I also recommend reading Soulmates. It’s also a great book.

Fated Tides is an interesting story of love and adventure at sea. The author takes you on a journey telling a story of finding one's destiny. Written differently than any story I have had the opportunity to read. Unfortunately, it did not captivate me or pull on my emotions. It fell a little flat for me but was interesting enough to finish.

*** Thank you to Sarah for providing the ARC, these thoughts and opinions are my own. ***

I am so happy that the author decided to extrapolate on the pirate vignette that was introduced in "Soulmates". That particular story really stuck in my brain and I am so glad that she ran with it for Fated Tides. I enjoyed the adventure and the turmoil. The drama felt real and the story was emotionally raw. The romance was beautiful. It was just absolutely gorgeous all around. I will read anything by this author. Just put it in front of me and I'll read it. <3

Loved this one just as much if not more than the first one. I always love the overall story flowing through the book, but my favorite parts are when we see the short little stories. How A and Z no matter what will find each other in any life, any realm.
