Dangerous Tides #4

To Kidnap a Princess

Rate this book
It’s been 10 years since the love of Juliette’s life sailed away and never looked back. The date they agreed to meet again has long since passed, and Juliette isn’t interested in waiting around any longer. So she kidnaps herself! Unfortunately, things start to go wrong immediately....

Maura might have fallen in love with a princess as a teenager, but as an adult she’s all too aware of the obstacles between them. She’s the most-wanted pirate captain in the kingdom Juliette is princess of. It will never work. But when she receives a distress call from her princess, she doesn’t hesitate to ride to the rescue....

But it’s not the reunion Juliette wanted. After saving her, Maura is determined to stick her on a ship home. Juliette is having none of it. She’s got a secret key to Atlantis...she just doesn’t realize the portal will take Maura and her entire ship, too. Whoops.

Maura smiles. “I loved you then, and I love you now. I never want to leave your side again, Jules. Not until death comes for us both.”

guyyyyyys 🥹🥹 this was definitely not the best choice of an audio today bc i am entirely way too emotionally unstable to process this book but it was EVERYTHING i hoped it would be and then some!!!

i am fully surprised how a 100 something page book ended up topping the way i felt about hunt on dark waters, i loved how soft both FMCs were and the way they loved each other so fiercely they’d give up everything. it was so fun getting to see phantom hands daddy bowen again.

the concept of this world is so exciting to me and so far has been executed soooo well. i really cant recommend this book and hunt on dark waters enough when they are both out!!!

In the wise words of Katee Robert:

“I think we can all agree that the world needs more sapphic pirates!”

*cue applause* because AGREED. This was the perfect snack. Second chance romance, forbidden, kidnapping (but she kidnaps herself lol), spicy spice and great action?! I still can’t believe this was under 200 pages. I’m gonna need Katee to write more pirates because DAMN.

This was fine. I had fun. I really enjoyed both narrators, and though I enjoyed both MCs there was something missing I couldn’t quite put my finger on what I wanted. I think maybe the conflict was glossed over a little quick? Mara’s heal turn just all the sudden happened, and maybe I wanted a bit more of her groveling for it. Idk. Overall I enjoyed myself and I’d rec it, but I didn’t rock my world.

(I’ve not been having good luck with audiobooks lately, but I think that’s a me and not listening in bigger chucks or listening how I used to, problem, rather than the audiobooks themselves).

This was my second read from the Dangerous Tides series and Katee Robert gave me something I had no idea I needed. Sapphic pirates. This swashbuckling tale had me feeling all my feels while maintaining the swag you’d expect from a high seas adventure. Some tropes I really enjoyed while reading this book include:

Miscommunication Touch Her & ☠️ Second Chance

I keep fucking up my words, but I have never fucked up this. I kiss her with all the things I keep failing to speak.

3.5 stars. My first Katee Roberts book, and it ended up being a great place to start! (I had to double-check that that was accurate, because it FEELS like I've read from her a lot. But no, turns out I've just bought/borrowed a bunch of her books.) An f/f fantasy romance about childhood sweethearts, a princess and an orphan turned pirate, who were separated for years, and reunite when Juliette, the princess, runs away from home in search of her first love and an adventure. Maura hadn't exactly been planning on a reunion, so their first meeting in years doesn't quite go as planned.

It's a bit of an adventure romance, and after one thing leads to another, they end up on Atlantis, which in this world is an island on another plane of sorts. Maura and Juliette are sort of working their way back to trusting each other, trying to find a way out of their situation, tentatively rekindling their romance. Second chance romances are always a little tricky for me, and while I liked this a lot, it could have been executed better? Flashbacks aren't my favourite device, but I did want a few more scenes where we got to see them during their first romance. We did get a few, and the description of their first few meetings and all their banter was sooo lovely, but I wish it had been more fleshed out. Perhaps if we'd gotten a full scene of it, in a long prologue or something. The book does start very much in the middle of the action, and while that was great for really pulling you into the story, I did feel like we were missing some build-up. But I overall really did enjoy their romance. Nothing swoonier than a promise kept, and I love that the book starts with Maura coming to Juliette's rescue, the moment she calls for her. Lots of great steamy times in general. I did end up a little disappointed with I guess it boils down to my familiar gripe about novellas: I wanted it to be longer, haha, and have more chances to delve into the characters. But it was written to be a novella, and what we got was really good.

Listened to the audiobook as read by Lessa Lamb and Christy Woods and I liked it. I did kinda wish that this had had duet narration; the two narrators have such dissimilar voices, so when they read for the other character, it was noticeably different, more so than it usually is in books with two narrators. But I still enjoyed my time with this; a fun little fantasy romp.

“I will always save you, Jules. I will always come for you, And I will always keep you safe.”

I was very excited for this book, but it was a little lackluster for me. I didn’t really care for the relationship between Maura and Juliette. A bit juvenile and their problems could have been solved if they just talked in the beginning. Honestly, I was more interested in the happenings in Atlantis than the main characters. Juliette and The Monarch would have been an interesting story. It was definitely not the best Katee Robert’s book for me that’s for sure.

This was fine. I wish it would have been a full length novel. I find that I don’t always love this author’s novellas. I just wanted more of the world. I’m hoping in the novels for her series in this world explore more of the things that were introduced in this novella!

In true me fashion, I started this book without knowing what it was about, just that Katee wrote it, so figuring out that it's in the same world as Hunt on Dark Waters was a fun surprise.

This book is a short prequel to The Hunt on Dark Waters, but it wasn't my favorite from Katee. It feels like an incomplete thought that just needed to be written.

Like Hunt on Dark Waters, I love the idea of their world but wish there was more world-building in the story. It seems like a beautiful, magical world I want to participate in.

The romance between the two women was ok to me, and I think it may have a lot to do with the level of spice in the other book that left me wanting more from this one.

when I read the summary and dived into this one, all I expected was some usual top-tier queer romance from Katee Robert. Imagine my surprise when it ends up *slightly* connected to Crimson Sails????? I wish I read this before Hunt On Dark Waters so I could be more wooed by Bowen in his actual book but I still swooned when he showed up! I was pleasantly surprised by the mention of Cŵn Annwn but then Bowen shows up in the flesh!!!!! love my big boi and love Katee Robert even more

3.5⭐️ Short stories/Novellas are always hard for me to rate because I’m always wanting more than what that format is meant to give. For me, the first half of the story was a bit slow and repetitive - the second half once they got to Atlantis was quicker paced and tied in some of the other events that were taking place in previous books of this series.

This is exactly what I want from a book. It's short and sweet and steamy. There's love and magic and dimension hopping pirates. It's hot and fun and adorable. I could read a million books about muscle-y, battle-scarred pirates and the chubby sassy princesses they can't live without. It was a great time beginning to end.

The only reason I'm not giving it the full 5 stars is that it's rife with editing errors. Like dozens, which is wild for a book that's only 150 pages long. And I read the second printing/edition! Most of them are flipping similar words (like using They when the word should've been There), but at least twice there were sentence fragments seemingly posted into the middle of words? Also, there was one time the word giddy was used 6 times in 3 pages, which isn't necessarily wrong, but it certainly was distracting.

Well worth the read, and certainly my favorite Katee Robert book to date.

I have been anxiously awaiting the audio for this series since the series was announced. I really enjoyed this swashbuckling pirate adventure with plenty of magic woven in. Maura and Juliette's second chance romance between a princess and a pirate definitely has the deck stacked against it. Once they let go of assumptions and actually talk/bang it out they only need to escape a dangerous situation. I am looking forward to more in the series from other authors to see what they do with this world.

Lessa Lamb and Christy Woods really brought the book to life with their performances. Lessa is already a favorite, but Christy is a new-to-me narrator. I'm so glad Katy prioritizes audio with great performers!!

4 stars. I just want Katee Robert to write more sapphic stories because she’s really good at them. Her heroines always have the hottest chemistry and the smut is top tier and this was no different. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was such a fun and sexy adventure with two headstrong characters. I liked that this was kind of a second chance romance between Juliette and Maura. Juliette is a Princess and Maura is a pirate captain and their chemistry was everything. The plot was entertaining as hell and my one and only complaint is that I wish this were longer because by the end I wanted more and I didn’t want it to end.

This is the 4th book in the Dangerous Tides world and really the first one where Atlantis was more of a surprise than a destination. Juliette knew she wanted to go there but Maura and her crew had no idea what was happening. I loved getting to just see the island newly through their eyes, it was really fun to visit the places that we visited in the past books and see it all brand new and fresh. Juliette and Maura just can't stay away from each other but also, they both have such big feelings. It takes them a while to truly talk about their feelings and desires, but I love the rekindling of their love. That siren bomb hit at the perfect time.

I enjoyed this. It was a fun introduction into the world that Katee has set up for her new series, which I'm very excited for (and excited for more Bowen). And this was my first of the Dangerous Tides kickstarter that I've read too, so I'm excited to read more of those and experience more of Atlantis. I will say this wasn't my favorite Katee Robert book; not that there was another wrong (other than a bigger concentration of typos in the epilogue), it just wasn't my favorite.

I wasn’t aware that I needed a sapphic pirate book with hella non-binary representation, but honestly 10/10. I don’t like that it ended a little more open ended than most of her books but maybe Hunt of Dark Waters addresses of that by continuing with Bowens story?

Anywho, Katee Robert is back on her shenanigans and I’m always here for it. 🏴‍☠️

I nearly never read pirate based fantasy books but this one I really enjoyed, tbh I think it was simply because Juliette was everything. She’s everything I enjoy in a main character etc.

loved the world so much...especially with the playlist I was listening too.

can’t wait to see Bowen ( I think that his name ) in his book Hunts on dark waters.

Wow there was so much action in such short book, I loved the angst between the characters, but I would have liked more of it, the overall pirateship vibe was great. I think the ending was a bit abrupt and the side characters didn't add anything here that much, but overall wonderful read, also I really liked the Maura and Juliette as characters and the spice was great like always with Katee.

To Kidnap a Princess is a delightful read that will appeal to fans of fairy tales, romance, and adventure alike. Katie Roberts has crafted a charming and memorable tale that kept me eagerly turning pages until the very end. I can't wait to dive into more of her work and see what other enchanting worlds she has in store.

This was an enjoyable read, but not my favorite from Katee Robert. I think that has mostly to do with I'm not a fan of the tropes. I don't think I enjoy second chance romances, and a lot of the beginning of felt like a big miscommunication issue that was annoying for me personally. I also didn't like Juliette much for most of this book. Overall this was fun.

I enjoyed it, but I didn't love it. This book, especially the bonus epilogue, suffer from the same issue as all the other books I've read in this series (and the one before it), lack of a good editor.

This was a good book. I enjoyed the characters. Love the little adventure that Jules and Maura went on. There were parts that did get too me especially how Maura was with Jules but all in all I did enjoy this book.
