When we think of climate change, we think of melting polar ice, droughts and intense heat. A small warning alarm sounds at the back of our minds, but we think there is still enough time. The Intervention changes all that! In this book, Dimitriadis shows a scenario when the timer has almost run out. Where humanity stands together to either find a solution to combat climate change or to lose it all.
I feel Dimitriadis interestingly approached this topic, coated with a science fiction touch of aliens threatening to invade Earth if climate change continues.

The Intervention is filled with important information that will leave the reader thinking and pondering about ways to contribute to combat climate change. The epilogue specifically highlights the choices humanity makes and how often procrastination instead of action takes place. I think this is an important book to read, and because of its topic, I will not rate it, as its something that affects us. The message of this book is to heed the warning, to take action and to prevent more damage to planet Earth through climate change. To appreciate our commodities and to use them sparingly.

A fiction book about climate change! Loved this concept and loved the book. I learnt so much and it changed my thoughts on the topic. I thoroughly enjoyed the fiction story as well.

If you already believe in UFOs, The Intervention is for you. If you don't, it might make you start wondering. Either way, the author’s use of a "celestial visitation" is an effective device.
The Intervention presents a scenario where an alien power offers humanity two choices: work cooperatively over a decade to address humanity's destructive behaviours - carbon output, overpopulation, and deforestation - or die. The book provides a perfectly timed, fictional presentation of the environmental issues that confront us today, and a key strength is its authenticity. Though marginally set in the future, the plot refers to recognisable scientific and technological reality and is, therefore, easily relatable to the reader's own life.
Ultimately, as I understand it, Stav Dimitriadis wants us to consider the consequences of our behaviour today for the future of our descendants tomorrow. Supported by strong writing and fully believable characterisation, The Intervention achieves its aim. When I closed the book, one phrase (that had appeared very early on) still resonated: 'The rules of the game have changed, and yet we are still debating the old rules.'
The Intervention is a thought-provoking, highly recommended read for sci-fi readers and anyone interested in the future and condition of the planet we all share.

If there ever was a book that made me stop and re-evaluate where the planet is heading it was The Intervention by Stav Dimitriadis.
Stav starts off by hooking you on a story line between a group of individulas, who form part of the Janus Council, thrown into a mix of turmoil, seduction and ego. The story then takes you on a journey of understanding how it is that we have both destroyed the Earth and what humanity (or in this case, the Janus Council) needs to do to save the planet from ultimate destruction. With every good book, there is a kicker that chalenges your moral compus!
Stav creates a convincing scenario with the use of an alien invasion to force humanity into immediate action. He creates a set timeline and a definite unwanted outcome should humanity fail.
I spent most of the time trying to imagine what I would do, how I would solve the challenges the aliens present to humanity.
Its time we all face the impact of what we have done to the planet and The Intervention is a thought-provoking book to force you to start making a real difference.

"If we cannot sacrifice for our children, perhaps we are a doomed planet"

I have never read a book that so heavily put the fear of God in me. And that's not saying it lightly.
My biggest question was also that of the characters - how to dimish world population by 2.5 billion people in ten years. I even had the epiphany to say "send all those into space" lol.
But the crux of the story is this - our world is dying, and we need to start fixing it for future generations before it's too late.
What a thought-provoking story!
