I’m having a hard time. And no, that's sadly not an innuendo. Depression is slipping back into my life like a toxic ex, and I know I need to do something before it consumes me. So when I run into the man of my dreams on my first attempt to get out of the house, it feels like fate.
But he turns out to be a nightmare, following me home and lurking outside my apartment. To make matters worse, after that terrifying encounter, I can’t stop dreaming about him. Night after night, he visits me in increasingly depraved dreams. They should be nightmares. So then why do I go to sleep each night desperate for more?
A monster fighting his desires…
Moving to Moonvale was a fresh start. A chance to leave behind the drama and heartbreak my demonic heritage has brought me. But thanks to awful timing, I’ve already screwed things up. The beautiful, intriguing woman who felt like the key to living again thinks I’m stalking her.
All I can do is stay away and try not to terrify her more. Easier said than done, when dreams of her consume me. They call out to the literal inner demons that I’ve tried so hard to shut away. But how can I let the monster inside me out without becoming monstrous?
Behold Her is a high-heat paranormal romance featuring a plus-size FMC and a monster MMC that blends dark themes with humor and heart to create a spellbinding story of transformation and love.
Emily loves cozy, emotional, and spicy romances with a monstrous twist. When she isn’t musing on the merits of doting, dominant monsters, she reads an obscene amount of romance novels, and cultivates her eccentric recluse persona.
Behold Her is a kinky and smut filled story following Mona, an anxious and lonely woman, and Max, a PI who is stuck in limbo after recently moving away from his family. When the two meet and Mona believes Max is stalking her after multiple instances, they both suddenly find themselves dreaming about each other. In the dreams, both Mona and Max succumb to their darkest desires and let their fantasies play out. However, when Mona learns Max is not in fact stalking her and is working a PI case in her apartment building, the two strike up a friendship that quickly turns to more as they decide to act out their dreams in real life.
While there was romance and a dash of happenings surrounding Max and Mona, this book is filled with smut from beginning to end including CNC, exhibitionism, BDSM, and more! While I very much enjoyed that, if you like your romances with a fair amount of plot, maybe look elsewhere. Despite the minuscule plot, I loved the story and characters. Mona was very relatable and I loved that Max was such a cinnamon roll but absolutely feral in the bedroom for Mona. The man was hooked from the beginning and was more than willing to go at Mona's pace.
~Many thanks to Emily Antoinette for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review!
I've never seen myself as much in a protagonist as I did in Mona. I felt like I almost completely marked the first half of the book... I knew this was going to be the book of 2023 for me.
"I wouldn't be here with you if you weren't exactly what I want, Mona. So stop questioning my impeccable taste or I'll have to bend you over this table and show you exactly how attractive I find you. Show everyone in here how good you look, taking my c*ck. Make them jealous of me being the one that gets to f*ck your perfect c*nt"
He ate. He definitely ate and left no crumbs. As he should!

So... I'm so f*cking disappointed when things went downhill very quickly with the third act break-up. Even in retrospect, I find Mona's reaction implausible, considering where they had just come from. Overall, I love that Mona is making such a big development and is finally doing things that she wants - on the other hand, it's all happening too quickly for me and is also too dependent on Max. Yes, the reality is often like that, but to be honest I think it's a shame that self-esteem is so often only strengthened in connection with men and I don't want to read that anymore...
You think it's unreasonable to give only 3 stars? Let me hurt in peace!
I will always remember you, Mona 🖤
"The only habits I'm good at keeping are bad ones"
"...and try to look like I know how to exist around other humans. It's tough - I've forgotten how to hold my arms casually,..."
"My messed up brain couldn't just let me be traumatized like a normal person"
2024 audiobook review: K I forgot how hot this book was. It has all the kink exploration and is super consent heavy. It’s honest about the mistakes people make when entering the world of kink even when they have the best intentions. I really enjoyed the voice actors. I especially liked the voice for Mona - soft spoken and a bit husky. It was 100% worth the reread.
OG review
D’awwww
Sweet Max is pretty much my dream guy. Willing to act out elaborate stalker fantasies? Check Messy wavy red hair? Check Impressive sexual prowess? Check He also is just so wonderful to Mona and helps her build her confidence as she accepts him as well. They were couple goals for sure!
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: stabbing, kidnapping (not by MC), cheating (side character), fatphobia, depression, grief (pet loss), discrimination, mention of racism
RTC, but just so we're clear, it will be just me gushing about how I will never entertain a single thought of any other stalker romances ever, because this is the one for me. I really liked Mona, but I LOVED Max. He's the only stalker allowed - the cinnamon roll stalker. I'm obsessed!

*:・゚my thoughts┊ aw! this was sweet.
really resonated with mona’s character and her body image struggles; it’s tough out there as a plus size girlie fr. her struggles were so real and i thought it was handled very well! loved seeing max bring her out of those negative thoughts. they were so sweet together!
honestly felt like this could’ve been shorter; the main emphasis of the story is how compatible max and mona are sexually, and it’s filled with their sexual acts. not that i’m complaining, because they were well written and pretty good, but it seemed like the plot came out of nowhere in the third act, so it shook me up a bit.
didn’t hate it, but it did feel a bit repetitive towards the end. loved the characters though, and i’m actually really looking forward to the next book, which follows blair and grace! i can already tell their story is going to be so good! <3
I think this was one of my favorite reads from the year!!
Max and Mona are just the best characters. I loved the struggle that Max was living with, learning to accept his sexual preferences while also learning to accept his succubus genetics! I loved the secondary storyline of the PI mystery that has such a scary little twist.
Mona’s journey in this book is awesome, she is struggling with depression which I can honestly relate to, but she’s forcing herself to get out and expand her comfort zones. She’s trying to connect with friends while also second-guessing her priority in her friends lives (I really love her internal dialogue)
I ADORE Grace, and I hope she gets her own book or novella ( we do get a peak of her in Love Lights!) I enjoyed the characters, and I want to hear more stories about Moonvale.
Super fun, sexy spicy read and honestly I would buy this book just for the cover, it’s beautiful!!
10/10 will read again :)
5/10/24 Did a reread and my review stands this book is amazing.
I love that Mona is plus-size fmc, yet she has insecurities like we all do . But I felt so bad for her when it mentioned her dog passed away. I could feel her pain in that .
Her friends are amazing, especially grace and her new friend blair . She made sure Mona didn't give up on trying in their dance class.
Max is such sexy n beautiful man. The way he treated Mona is what every woman deserves & more .
Were any of their kinks ones I personally enjoy? No. Did I absolutely love these two being absolute freaks together? 100%, no notes.
I'm glad I read Maneater first because I loved all the Elle and Shane cameos. I love his sisters and how protective they are. The siblings dynamics are top notch. Max's relationships with each sister is so different, but so clearly filled with love.
Mona's friend group is also so realistic to friendships as you age. One friend has a kid and can't make it out often, one just got divorced and is a little frazzled, and they all still love each other so much, even if circumstances keep them apart. It was so realistic watching Mona work through her depression to see how much she loves her friends and they love her in return.
I am going to have to find Jessica and Devon and fight them. I hate them so much I cannot use words, only fists.
I will be impatiently waiting for Grace and Blair's book. Like I might not make it. I'm so excited. I am obsessed with the early stages of their relationship and seeing Grace realize that she might not be as straight as she thought she was.
DNFed 11% FMC is insufferable. I tried to be understanding because she’s insecure and bigger and not the pretty girl in her friend group because of society’s beauty standards. But her friend grace is incredibly kind and all she does is compare herself to grace non stop and whines. I personally would not want a friend like Mona. Just because your friend is skinny doesn’t mean she doesn’t have her own insecurities!
There’s a difference between being insecure and being nasty. At some point you have to just accept how you look. I can see how beauty standards can make you insecure but she was just whiny and annoying. I’ll try another book by this author but this book is a no for me.
The kink in this book is most definitely top-tier! I mean phew lol Mona went through grief, depression, self-deprecating, and more. She's plus size and trying to find herself with her friends, her family, and one of her new identities and, of course, with herself. For those who read my reviews know I do not like miscommunication, and Mona was a bit of a pro at from beginning to end lol Understandable, but the rating gets knocked down a little for that. I really liked Max! I liked the reappearance of his family and how involved they were. The sisters (the one similar to Max) I SO hope she gets a book of her own. Her teasing Mona was soooo good lol Max held a lot back, which was again understandable but caused issues. But he was an absolute sweetheart and does nothing but worship the ground Mona works on. I'd give it a 3.75 simply because the miscommunication lol but I really enjoy this author's writing and man oh man the smexy scenes *chefs kiss*. Also... Blair is good, gracious. I can't wait to read her book. She is a FORCE. Her and Grace though ehhhh I don't know we shall see.
I love redheads, especially a red head MMC. I am starting to love cinnamon roll MMCs more and more, although gray will forever by my favorite color 😏 But the mouth on Max is less than sweet; in fact it’s downright sinful. Max and Mona’s story is darker than Space For Love and Maneater and, as always, plus-size FMC representation is strong and I absolutely love that about every single one of Antoinette’s books.
I love the attention to detail to the relationship between Max and his siblings and the cameo of Shane and Elle made me smile from ear to ear. And Nugget 😩😩 I just love him, even though we don’t get to see him much.
This was literally 50/50 spice and plot with a majority of action happening in the last quarter of the book.
*I received an ARC of this book. Opinions are my own*
Wowza!! Emily Antoinette blew me away on this one. This book is spicy, funny and has a good plot! Spicy, dark romance mixed with the sweetness of a cozy romance sprinkled in.
Behold Her follows two main characters. Mona, a plus sized human dealing with body image, confidence and loss. She is trying to push herself out of her comfort zone and join a burlesque class with a friend.
The MMC is Max, the son of the two main characters of Maneater (prequel novella). He is a cinnamon roll who is trying to break free of the next and past trauma by moving to Moonvale to start his PI firm and expand away from his family. On a night working as a PI he accidently spots Mona and is enamoured. Something draws the two of them together, they keep running into another until Mona believes Max is stalking her! The pair starts having shared, spicy dreams after running into each other again. These scenes are 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ The misunderstanding of thinking Max is stalking Mona breaks the ice for the two to start becoming close and learning more about one another. (And reenacting some of the scenes they dreamt about.)
I loved that there was a good amount of 🌶️ paired with romance and a light mystery plot. The two fall for each other and there definitely is HEA. There are also endearing side characters that I hope make appearances in future Monsters of Moonvale books.
Mona is one of the most relatable plus size FMCs I've ever read, not falling into the usual tropes for plus sized characters. Emily did an amazing job writing this character and making her feel authentic and the reader can really resonate with her.
Dual POV Stalker(ish~) Dark Romance Paranormal romance Beginning of a series based in Moonvale Nerdy, Plus Size FMC Body Image Issues BDSM, K!nk, Exhibitionism 🥵🥵🥵🥵
Thank you to Emily Antoinette for this digital galley in return for my honest review. As always, love being an ARC reader for this fabulous author.
Fantastic story!! Just loved Mona and Max. A tale full of emotion, humour, angst, 🌶🌶🌶🌶 and eventual love. Mona suffers with her loss, her beloved pug and other issues. Though she also has an inner strength. She has desires that upon meeting Max, is able to enjoy with him. Max is open about being half witch but holds back on telling her of his half succubus self. I enjoyed Blair and Grace and will enjoy their story. Mona and Max connect via dreams that neither understands, but Max calls up his father for help. The heat between the pair was amazing, they were perfect for each other. There other events happening around them and a few, not so nice, but all ends well. I just loved the humour; enjoying a good chuckle as I read this. I especially loved Max's family and his wonderful father. If only all in-laws could be so much fun. :D I was lucky to have received an ARC from this new author, that I am only too happy to review.
The third act conflict ruined this story for me. The female mc struggles with self-esteem and loving her body. I get that and the author did a good job of warning us that it will be present in the story. Max also has issues with his succubus side and lied about only being a witch. That said, when they met up with the two who shamed Max, Mona just turned on him completely. It was horrible. They had just talked to these two who outed him, he is so uncomfortable and afraid and she just blamed him for everything. She basically judged him and shamed him too. What's worse, when she had that dream after being told what the dreams mean, she did nothing. I was too bitter to be happy that they made up. They didn't even have a conversation about what happened in the alley. I get they're both unsure and tiptoeing around each others issues, but it would have been nice to see her own up to what she did. Otherwise, their story and the kink was really good. I just hated the ending. So, 3 stars
Wow. Dark romance done perfectly to my taste. I did not know this was possible....
After Shane and Elle's story, I was curious how the next story could top it. Turns out it did not need to, it is a whole 'nother beast and I ate every word up.
The anticipation. The chemistry. The spice. EVERYTHING.
Okay, this one was straight-up kinky filth and I devoured every second of it. "Behold Her" throws you into Mona’s anxious little world, she’s lonely, stuck in her own head, and suddenly convinced she’s being stalked. Enter Max, a PI with major cinnamon roll energy and a case that just so happens to bring him into her orbit. What starts out as a series of weird run-ins quickly spirals into intense dreams, fantasies, and eventually full-blown smutty reality.
Listen, the plot was minimal but the vibes were Immaculate!! The kink is center stage here, CNC, exhibitionism, primal play, bondage, D/s dynamics—you name it, it’s probably in there. But what really sold it for me was how fun and hot everything felt. It never took itself too seriously but still managed to hit those emotional beats when it counted.
Mona was super relatable, socially anxious, touch-starved, and trying to make sense of her messy desires. And Max? Soft, respectful king by day, absolute menace in the bedroom. Like, the man was ready to crawl through fire just to make her feel safe and desired. We love a respectful perv🫶🏻!!!
If you need heavy plot or worldbuilding, this probably isn’t for you. But if you’re here for spicy fantasy and characters who are down to play out their wildest desires? This hits the spot!!!
I actually started this book a few months ago but had to put it on hold to finish up some other books for my reading challenges—then completely forgot about it. So when I accidentally stumbled across it again, I knew it was time to finally dive back in.
And I’m so glad I did! I really enjoyed it. The LGBT+ rep was great, and knowing that book two is a sapphic romance has me so excited. I also peeked ahead in the series and saw there’s an MM novella, which is another huge plus. Even though this book is a straight romance, it’s pretty clear that both MCs are part of the LGBT+ community in some way, which I loved.
I’ll definitely be checking out the rest of the books and novellas in this series. If you’re into spicy monster romance with a plus-size MC, you’re going to love this one!
He’s a stalker, but he’s also a cinnamon roll?!?!!
holy cinnamon roly I have no idea how the author managed to weave such perfection into the main character that is Max but she did.
The story follows Max who is a half witch, half succubus Who relocates to moon Vale as a PI running from his past relationship traumas and hang ups about being a monster.
Mona is a plus size fmc who is struggling with depression and her body image. Who is struggling with feeling alone and unseen.
but has decided to actively try and pull herself, out of this dark well, she’s been living in. Personally, I find her character extremely relatable.
You get to watch these characters discover things about themselves, and fall in love… and also who knew a sweet snuggly cinnamon roll could absolutely dominate in the bedroom
if you’re a monster lover like me, you’re gonna want to read it the author does an amazing job at adding a cute. Cozy vibe into a monster romance that has a bit more darker aspects.
4.5/5 🌶️ I loved this book, Emily Antoinette has wow’d me again. She pulled me in from the start of this book with the most perfect dedication. “For all of those who just want to be seen. And railed the way we dream about”.
Emily Antoinette(I received an ARC copy and am giving my honest review)
I adored Maneater. DEVOURED that book. This one... THIS ONE. When I tell you, the spice was spicing!!! It was HOT! Just as funny, heartfelt, and lovely as its predecessor, Behold Her HOLDS YOU and never lets go of your attention. I was upset every time I had to put this book down to do things like, daily tasks. (LE SIGH, lol). I loved this books so much! Thank you, Emily Antoinette for giving me an ARC copy. Consider me a long time fan!
Emily Antionette and the Monster of Moonvale have me in a chokehold. I loved this book so much! I loved how kink positive and kink safe this book was. I loved watching both MCs struggle with different things about themselves and learning to come to terms with who they are individually and together. I need more right now.
This book was perfection and I will accept zero criticism!!
Mona is as real as a fat girl depicted in smutty romance can get--she isn't all rainbows and butterflies constantly in love with her body. She is vulnerable, sometimes self-conscious, and battles with her internalized fat phobia just like a normal person! She is learning to love herself, and Max is gently pushing her along the way.
Max is a tortured and sweet cinnamon roll that you just wanna hug and cuddle with right after he rails you, turns your a$$ cheeks red, and makes your mascara run and lipstick smear. They are absolutely head over heels in love and super horny for each other at all times just like Max's parents were in Maneater and I am HERE FOR IT!! He is gentle when he needs to be, and rough just like she likes it. He is considerate of her feelings and wants her to feel completely safe in his care. He quite literally worships her and makes sure she knows it! He'll stop at nothing to show her that she is a queen deserving of even more than he can give her, but he's never going to stop going above and beyond to prove it.
I am so appreciative to Emily for writing Mona's story with such care and raw emotion. She handled this story with such care, and you can just feel her real life experiences infused throughout. The author's note just confirmed everything I already imagined to be true, and that's the type of writing I appreciate the most! Can't recommend this one enough and I will be eagerly waiting for more from this author!!!
Aaaah, this was sweet and spicy, baby! Max and Mona have an off the charts chemistry and I'm all for it. Max is a sweet cinnamon roll MMC hiding a dirrrrrty dom inside. And Mona is a soft thicc lovely girl hiding a kinky exhibitionist with a penchant for being stalked. Then they meet and start having shared sexy times dreams. Add some real life sexy times, a few lies by omission, an evil demon, shake and voilà, perfect Monster romance.
