“I plan to taste every part of ye, lass, and ye willnae stop me.”
Upon his return home, Conor vows to be a better Laird than his father. And nothing is going to distract him. Until he sees the alluring bride he left behind…
The last time Nylah saw her husband was the day they married. So when he unexpectedly comes back, his dark gaze leaves wanting one thing only: to finally be claimed in more than name.
When Conor demands that she leaves, Nylah sees it as a challenge: she shall tempt her husband to the point of no return…
*Tempting her Highland Husband is a steamy Scottish Medieval Historical romance novel of 60,000 words (around 300 pages) written by Maddie MacKenna and published by Cobalt Fairy.
No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam and a happy ending.
I hated the way he treated her when he came home. He was an arrogant jerk. Then he tried to send her away. I was gobsmacked! There was a traitor in his clan and it was obvious from the start. He tried to assault his wife, his sister and then he almost killed a trusted soldier. But the hero being such a braying donkey kept him from seeing the truth. And then her brother was an idiot too. Just annoying really. Bug it was a decent read so I gave it three stars because I finished it. The heroes realization of what he had in the heroine was too little too late.
This is a very different love story as our couple have not seen each other since the wedding five years ago. Conor left to fight in a war right after marrying Nylah. He did not even take time to consummate the marriage!! Nylah has waited long enough to be a wife so when she finds out Conor means to send her away as he finds her too tempting and does not want the distraction. He wants to be a better Laird than his father was. Unfortunately, he doesn’t understand how much Nylah has held the clan together and how much she has grown and changed in the five years. She will not stand being sent away and sets out to tempt Conor and any way she can to make her a wife in more than name only. This is a very fast-moving story with some great characters, good and evil. There are traitors and betrayal neither saw coming. With misunderstanding and secrets all is almost lost before the truth comes out. What a great read with tons of growing, learning love and passion. Once you get started you can’t put it down. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.
The title and the cover of this book are seriously misleading. The cover is yummy, but doesn't show a typical Scotsman. The title should state: "Tempting her pigheaded, frigid husband". All is fake in this story: fake historical era, fake customs, fake marriage, fake feelings, fake drama. The timeline of this tale is not specified, sometime in the past, between the bow and arrow and weapons of mass destruction. Conor goes to the clan war for five years and cannot visit his beloved home, which he protects by fighting this war, not even once during this time. Seriously, Scotland is not that large, and clan war is not a World War... so the base of the drama is very far-fetched. Then Conor returns home as a thirty-year-old guy and acts as a shy adolescent who doesn't know what to do with his throbbing appendage. His wife doesn't help him because she is more like a nun than a wife. The dialogues are long and pointless, the politics are boring and unnecessary, and Conor's views on his wife's place in his household are the most infuriating. Not what I expected.
Nylah Peterson has been ruling over the McAlister castle and clan for around 5 years. She finally has her wish of being able to host the archery tournament this year and is so excited for the chance to make it great fun for everyone. Conner Peterson has been away at war for 5 years, ever since his wedding day. When he gets home, his first business is to catch up on clan business and continue his reign as Laird. As he watches his wife make judgements, he decides to step in and over rule her decree, which enrages her. As they try to do the best for the clan, they try to get past misunderstandings, he makes a decision to send her away for a while, which, of course, enrages Naylah, but she has a plan - make him want her in every way. This book is really a great read and worth it! Grab the book and read it!
The author gave us more than just a romance happily ever after story. After the hero returns home from 5 years at war and now faced with his untouched bride, the author delivers the most agonizing long slow burn between the hero and heroine. She gives us tiny tastes and lets it simmer within the reader, while she develops the intrigue and deception at work behind the scenes. Always something to separate the new found love between husband and wife. I was left with solving the mystery and waiting for the next page of passion. The author strung me along while keeping my interest and turning the pages. Great job writing Maddie MacKenna!
Conor has been fighting a war for 5 long years leaving his untouched bride behind to handle the clan. When he finally returns he has some ideas about some of the people left behind. He is ready to be Laird now and wants Nylah to just go into the background like a good little wife. Not about to happen! Conor is depending on some of the men that were his soldiers and not listening to the people that had been there the whole time his wife took care of everything. Now he's not sure that he really wants to get close to Nylah but can't stop thinking about her. A close call changes everything for the pair and the clan and they decide to handle the clan together.
Nylah has been acting laird for the last 5 years since her husband Conor left for war on their wedding day. They had no time to get to know each other. Now he’s back and they must find a way to move forward for the good of the clan. Conor is stubborn and has his own plans for the clan which leaves Nylah out of the loop. However there is an attraction between them that can’t be denied. Conor must try to put that distraction aside and focus on the clan. Nylah wants to be a part of his life and the clan. Unfortunately, there is a traitor in their midst who wants revenge on Conor and will stop at nothing to get it.
DNF at 40% I really don't know why people are giving 5 stars for this... The H comes back after 5 years of war, the h was "the laird" in his stead. He wants to send her to her brother, never having consummated the marriage, just because she distracts him and does things the way his father did, which he does not like... The whole reasoning was silly in my eyes, why would he want her gone in the first place? There was no real tension or chemistry between the two main characters. The side characters were so shallow that I don't even know their names (and I've just stopped reading). I had high hopes, because I love Scottish historical romance novels. But this is a waste of time...
Nylah marries at seven and ten only to have Conor head off to war for five years. During that time she takes on the role of Laird. He returns mature with plans to improve the clan and she has blossomed and grown stronger yet desire for each other flares. Conor feels she is a distraction while Nylah wants to finally consummate their marriage. Desire, distraction, danger, and unexpected betrayal resulting in war within the clan combine to make this a book its hard to put down. I highly recommend it, another great book Maddie.
This is the story of a young Laird and his new bride. He had to leave for a war that lasted for five years even before their wedding vows were consummated. During his absence she stepped up and lead the clan. When he returns he is amazed at how well things have been taken care. Soon after his return home he finds out that someone is trying to split his clan. Now the job of trying to figure out who is causing the problem and correct it before things get worse.
Lots of Brave Characters. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I just loved the characters and storyline so much. Nylah held her own for 5 years until Conor came back home. This was such a good story. I think there was one editing error but all in all great read. I can’t wait to read what comes next. Never disappointed with anything Maddie writes. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊
This is a wonderful journey of adventure and love. I absolutely loved the characters and story line full of twists and turns throughout the story making it very interesting and entertaining. Its mysterious events that include the very interesting story ending are absolutely unexpected. Love the extended epilogue with its beautiful happy ending. Definitely a must read and highly recommend it.
A different story line , to say the least! Nyliah and Conor were married, arranged by her brother, minutes later her left to go to war with an ally! She has grown into being the Laird, and when he returns, they almost didn’t recognize each other! And as they try to adjust to each other, someone is plotting behind their back! Interesting book!
Good story and characters. Once I began reading I couldn’t stop. They were married, didn’t know each other at all, then the Laird immediately left for war. Five years later he returned and found his wife had managed to do well as leader of the clan. Trouble was brewing within the clan after he returned, but who stirred things up and why.
Good old fashion arranged marriage that was not consummated because the Laird went to war right after the I dos was said. Returned to find wife had every thing under control. That’s when the Laird’s right hand man decided to start a mutiny because he blamed the Laird for his little brother dying. But through it all the Laird and his bride found love with each other. First they stopped the mutiny ruled the Clan together and found their happily ever after.
I wanted to like this book, as Scottish stories are my favorite. This was just so slow to start and honestly did not make sense. You get married leave for 5 years, come back to your wife and still not consummate your marriage? And on top of that you want to send her away to make your clan stronger….I just did not get it. The H was weak and I could not connect with any of the characters. My TBR list is too long to continue with this series.
Nylah was married to Conor, but he left minutes after their wedding to go to war with a friend. He was gone five years. Nylah became the Laird and ran the castle. They loved her and she lived them. Upon his return, things were a little strained. They did not know each other. In battle Tom’s brother was killed trying to save Conor. No one knew but he was seeking revenge.
This Medieval story had me all caught up in the drama and characters. Connor is back home and is taking over as Laird and vowed to do a better job than his father. Once he sees his wife sparks ignites but he demands that she leaves which only challenges Nyla. Will there be a union between them and will it lead to a happily ever after.
Wow! Nylah was quite the lady of the clan. She was fair, tough and looked completely at the clansmen involved in the complaint before she made a decision. Connor was amazed. This story was definitely a great read. Battles, arguments, hardheadedness as well as temptations and danger.
This was a good book. Nylah and Conor had a hard start and if Tom hadn’t been so firm on destroying anyone Conor loved. The extended epilogue was good as it showed the whole family was together.
Enjoyed reading this book. A lot of exciting twists and turns as husband returns from five years of fighting a war. The wife has to give up her position as a sort of manager of the estate while he was gone.
Oh what a wonderful story of a marriage made to create alliances. Left the day of for war. A lady who took on being laird of the clan while he was away to the Laird returning years later thinking everyone and everything had to be changed. Funny how fate works and how revenge is a beast.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well rounded and I enjoyed the connection between Conor and Nylah. The flow of the book keeps you interested in what happens next.
Nylahs the perfect heroine and Conner the perfect hero. The villian was no big surprise. The story flowed very well. Would recommend to anyone that enjoys a good highland love story, with excitement.
It is an entertaining start to a series about Highland Lairds and the women who come to love them. Easy to read and full of adventure. I couldn't wait to start the second book, so I downloaded the entire series as soon as I finished book one!
While Donor is off fighting Human must take care of the clan. This story is great about two heads trying to run the clan. There is bitterness and uprising going on. Great start to the series
This is my first book to read by Maddie MacKenna and I enjoyed it very much. It wax full of family, love adventure and the happy ending. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed this story! Lots of Mystery as to who was causing all the problems in the clan. Very exciting to find out who it was in the end. I loved the story of Nylah and Conor! In the end they finally realized that they loved each other. It indeed was a happy ending.
