Bistro at Holiday Bay #6

Ravioli and Resolutions

Rate this book
Shelby and gang at the bistro have decided to ring in the new year with a huge celebration. The building had been decorated, a killer band has been hired, and everyone is looking forward to a fresh start and a new list of resolutions, including Amy, who has been working for weeks to replicate the ravioli soup her neighbor used to make each year for her New Years Day dinner party.

In spite of the positive energy created by the annual chance to reset and restart, a dark cloud settles over the festivities when Alex is handed a new case, a modern-day murder that ties into a New Year’s Eve murder Beck investigated five years ago.

Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.
Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Ravioli and Resolutions is the sixth book in Kathi Daley’s Bistro at Holiday Bay series. Since this is the first spin-off series from Ms. Daley’s Inn at Holiday Bay series, there are quite a few familiar characters, along with new ones. The well-plotted storyline flows smoothly, the setting is charming, and the well-developed characters are three-dimensional, compassionate, and caring. The murder mysteries in this installment are intriguing and complex, with no shortage of twists, turns, or red herrings. I highly recommend this series to readers who enjoy well-crafted, cozy mysteries.

Shelby Morris recently learned that she not only had two half-sisters, Sage Wilson and Sierra Danielson, but that the grandmother they didn’t even know existed had passed away, leaving them cash, personal property, and a mansion and grounds worth millions of dollars. The sisters decided Shelby would move to Holiday Bay, Maine, to live in and care for the house and grounds. When Shelby Morris and her friend and talented chef, Amy Hogan, discovered a local bar and restaurant, the Bistro at Holiday Bay, was for sale, the two friends decided to go into business together. Business at the Bistro has been booming since the completion of their remodeling project, opening up the Bistro’s first floor, adding additional seating, exposing previously hidden windows overlooking the harbor, moving the kitchen to the second floor, and opening a second bar and dining area on the rooftop.

Shelby and her staff members are getting ready for a blowout New Year’s Eve party at the Bistro, and then Shelby is hosting a New Year’s Day open house for her employees and friends. Even though Shelby has a lot on her plate, she’s enjoying having both her half-sisters in town. The Bistro’s sous-chef, Cambria, is helping Amy replicate the ravioli soup recipe Amy’s childhood neighbor, Mrs. Mariana, used to make. Police Chief Colt Wilder’s second in command, Officer Alex Weston, is in charge while Colt is out of town dealing with family issues, so when the body of a local resident, an apparent suicide victim, is found, she seeks out the help of local PI, Beck Cage, since he’s reinvestigating a similar death that occurred five years ago.

I hate to say this but this series is getting boring. I have enjoyed this author's books. However, the recent books in this series are simply just one conversation after another of the same people hashing over possible clues as they try to solve a murder or two. Very little other action. I do like the characters but I won't finish this one or start the next one.

Amazon synopsis:

Great book!!!!

I really love this series!!!! It connects with four other books in Holiday Bay.
Shelby the co-owner of the Bistro has three days to get ready for their New Years Eve party and then at her house on New Year day have a party for families and friends.
Nikki and her new friend Nick come in the Bistro looking for Beck the PI for some advice and to hire him to find out what is going on in the house Nick has just bought to fix up and sell.
It seems Nick has a ghost in his house and has Beck and Alex a police officer are looking into the history of the dead man that died there that can be connected to a recent death that Alex is looking into.
Shelby and Dawson are there to help, and boy do they have a mess to unravel to figure out.
There are two doctors at a mental hospital that have a huge part in the two dead men twenty years ago, comes to the surface of a sad ending to both men.
Now you have to get the book to get all the details for yourself!!!!!
You won't be disappointed!!!!!

Shelby is busy getting ready for New Year's Eve at the Bistro and New Year's Day party at home, Amy is working on recreating a neighbor's soup recipe and Alex is investigating what looks like a suicide that closely resembles a suicide that happened 5 years earlier. Shelby, Dawson and Beck soon jump in and help Alex with the case. Add to that Shelby's sisters are staying with her along with 8 guests. Love how they work together to dig deep and get the real story one case was suicide, but the other more recent one was murder. Then there's Nate who bought the old home to renovate but there are strange happenings and the group finds a secret passageway, actually 2 of them that helps explain the odd happenings at the house. Lots going on with a ton of twists and turns and more than a few surprises. Really great book with an unexpected ending, you just have to read this book to find the answers and you're really going to love it!

Shelby and the bistro gang have plans to ring in the new year with a big party. They're all making resolutions and plans for a fresh start, including Amy who's trying to replicate a ravioli soup that her childhood neighbor used to make. When Alex, a local detective gets a new case, Shelby along with Dawson and Beck help investigate. The case is unusual in that it looks much like a case from five years earlier.

Kathi Daley is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors and this is one of her newer series which I have enjoyed very much. This was a quick, fun read which has wonderful characters and a fast-paced plot. The fascinating story had me hooked from beginning to end. The mystery was excellent and will keep you guessing. I loved this book and am looking forward to the next one. Kathi's stories are light, enjoyable, and satisfying to read and I really recommend them.

Good series

Shelby is preparing for her New Year's Eve celebration at the Bistro, and her open house the next day. A possible suicide may have a connection to another suicide 5 years earlier. Alex and Beck team up to look for clues with some assistance from Dawson and Shelby. Amy is trying to duplicate a ravioli soup from her childhood. Maybe there is also a bit of romance developing between Shelby and Dawson. Looking forward to the next book in the series to see if my guess is accurate.

Shelby and the Bistro are in between Christmas and New Year and anticipating the big party when news of a possible suicide reaches them. Alex receives an anonymous call at the police station to look at a suicide ruled case from five years ago. Is there a connection? Beck, Dawson and Shelby all try to help Alex close the case and when they figure it all out it is stranger than anyone could imagine. Good addition to this series.

Ms. Daley has set another cozy mystery in Holiday Bay for Alex to resolve with the help of Shelby, Beck and Dawson. This one had a cold case mystery that may or may not have been a suicide as well as a current case that closely resembles the cold case. With clever twists and turns and a few red herrings sprinkled throughout the story, I was fully engaged from the first page to the last.

Great

Again another hit, the crew at the Bistro gets ready for an end of the year party and an open house at Sydney's house. A murder and a potential ghost investigation wraps up Sydney, Alex, Beck and Dawson. By solving one as not a ghost but a person and the murder is solved by the gang it is all wrapped up before the party and everyone can enjoy the party.

A Very Different Mystery

I've read a lot of mysteries by Kathi Daley, but this one is WAY different than all of the others. You'll get no spoilers from me, so I will just say that I was intrigued enough to read to the end. I do hope that she got that storyline out of her system, lol.😊 Now on to the next book.

Go story

This was a fairly good, clean, cozy mystery, and I do like to read them and will continue to do so. The problem I have is that this author has a tendency to repeat her conversations with other people. She does it several times in this book. Sometimes, it feels like it's just filler.

A cold case connected with murder in the present

As Shelby and friends prepare for a big New Year’s Eve party, Be k and Alex are exploring connections, if any, between a five-year old cold case and a present one. Can they resolve the possible murders before the new year? And can Amy, the Bistro’s chef, rediscover her grandmother’s ravioli soup recipe before the party?

Very enjoyable!

I always enjoy the books at Holiday Bay. This one was very good. I love the couple that Shelby and Dawson will eventually make. I missed Colt and Abbie, they are my favourites. But this one was very clever. Good read!
