As she steps out of the shower and wraps herself in a warm towel, her breath catches. There’s writing scrawled in the condensation on the mirror. I’m going to kill you . She doesn’t even have time to scream…

It’s Halloween when a young woman is reported missing from the small town of Black Rock Falls and Sheriff Jenna Alton and her partner, Deputy David Kane , race to her remote home. But all they find are signs of a struggle and blood on the bathroom floor. Freya Richardson has vanished.

With no leads on Freya’s whereabouts, Jenna hits a wall in the investigation. Then the bodies of three women are discovered buried in a local forest. Each one has been wrapped in a blanket. As Jenna takes in their pretty faces and long blond hair, her blood runs cold. Freya isn’t but each body looks shockingly like her…

Jenna soon links the victims with an unsolved case where the killer attacked blonde-haired women in their homes and buried the bodies. She’s convinced it’s the same murderer, and seeing that he always takes three victims, she realises that two more women could be in serious danger…

Working around the clock, Jenna’s heart sinks when a beloved friend makes a terrifying call telling her there’s an intruder in her house. Begging her to hide, Jenna and Dave race to the woman’s house. But can they get there in time to stop another innocent life from being taken?

Many thanks to both Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of A Song for the Dead. This book is #21 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series and the expected publication date is January 8, 2024.

Welcome back to Black Rock Falls ... also known as Serial Killer Central!

I jumped into this series with #18 and I immediately LOVED it!! Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane, make a great couple. Adding the little boy, Tauri, to the family made me so happy. However, by the time I read book #20, part of my review stated: I do have one small complaint, though. The men are always rubbing their chins and it drives me bonkers!

If only it were just that...

I found myself ready to scream in A Song for the Dead. Jenna chewed her bottom lip multiple times. Kane rubbed his chin many times. Carter was popping toothpicks into his mouth. Characters were running their hands through their hair. When a character would share with the team what they had discovered, he or she would first clear their throat before speaking. All of the characters were either buying coffee, making coffee, adding fixings, or washing and drying mugs - repeatedly. Every time something extraneous like that happened, it jolted me away from what I really wanted to read, which was the actual storyline.

It makes me sad, but unless someone contacts me and tells me things have changed, I think this is it for me.

Detectives Kane and Alton #21

As she steps out of the shower and wraps herself in a warm towel, her breath catches. There's writing scrawled in the condensation on the mirror. I'm going to kill you. She doesn't even have time to scream....

And so it begins, a new Halloween murder spree has hit Black Rock Falls. This is Dave and Jenna's first Halloween with their son, Tauri, but Jenna isn't a fan of this season. Graves have been found in the forest, they think they are the work of the Halloween Slasher who has not been seen or heard of in seven years. The town has been decorated for Halloween, so there are a lot more things a killer can hide behind. Jenna feels like someone is watching her from the shadows, but is it just her overactive imagination?

This is another well-written, twisted, and very creepy read. I can never work out who the killer is. I like Jenna and her team, they work well together, and I like that Jo Wells and Ty Carter are making a regular appearance. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #DKHood for my ARC of #ASongForTheDead in exchange for an honest review.

As always, a great trip back to Black Rock Falls. This time it was Halloween and it was ever so creepy. While I was reading it in broad daylight I was hearing all the noises the house makes and freaking myself out! The town seemed to go all out for decorations and it was hard to know what was real and what was fake.

This killer was intense and sadistic. The way he took his victims was chilling and got into my head. No showers for me while I am home alone! I liked that the whole team got involved on the case, one that really had them all stumped. It is nice to see Dave and Jenna as parents too. I would be getting out of Serial Killer Central though!!

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. Publishes on January 8th

D.K. Hood offers up another stunning piece with some twists, sure to impress series fans. In a story that provides all the needed elements for success, Hood picks up the thread and presents well-developed cliffhangers. When a young woman goes missing, Sheriff Alton is asked to investigate, though there are no clear clues. It will take discovery f another heinous crime to see a theme developing over this time of year. Could this be someone who uses Hallowe’en as a reason to commit violent crimes? Sheriff Alton and her team will have to delve deeply into the case and find clues to solve it swiftly. Hood dazzles once more with this piece.

Stepping out of the shower after work, she sees a message etching into the steam-covered mirror. “I’m going to kill you’.” A chill runs down her spine, but she does not even have time to scream before she’s thrust into darkness

It’s Halloween and Black Rock Falls is revved up for the celebration. This is short lived for Sheriff Jenna Alton and her partner, Deputy Dave Kane, as a woman is reported missing. When they arrive at the rural home, they see an obvious struggle and blood in the bathroom. Freya Richardson is gone and the scene is clearly one of a major crime.

There are no leads about where Freya could be and Sheriff Alton has reached a dead end. It’s only when the bodies of three women are found in the forest that things take a turn. Wrapped in blankets, these women have been missing for various lengths of time. The faces of the victims are all quite similar, and Freya resembles them as well. The kidnapper could be a killer who has gone quiet for the last number of years and his connection to Hallowe’en is eerie.

Working non-stop to locate the killer and Freya, Sheriff Alton has done all she can but cannot stop turning over every lead. Her worry grows when a friend calls and says that there is an intruder in the house. With Kane alongside her, Sheriff Alton leads the way to the house, as a killer is likely targeting his next victim. Will they arrive in time and capture the serial killer before more blood is shed? Hood does well spinning this tale and kept me reading well into the evening to get to the answers.

D.K. Hood has done well with this series, the first twenty novels part of a binge ate last year. With this latest novel, I was able to pick up where things left off and there was no lapse in the tension. A strong narrative keeps the reader on their toes and provides building momentum throughout. I have always enjoyed how things grow and what small pieces are left to blow in the wind for series fans to enjoy as they wait for another novel. With strong central and peripheral characters, Hood develops story arcs that keep me wanting to know more, while also noticing great development that is sure to build as books are added to the already strong series.

There is no end to the great aspects this series has to offer. Small-town policing has been a theme in many of the novels I have read over them last while, each with their unique approaches. Hood builds great plot twists and keeps things moving throughout the series. There are many moments of unexpected action and Hood uses this to keep the reader excited. I am eager to see what’s next and how things will develop with ease. Patience is not a virtue I have as a reader, but I will have to distract myself for the time being.

Kudos, Madam Hood, for never letting me down in my reading experience.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'A Song For The Dead' by DK Hood.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for DK Hood, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 8th January 2024

This is the tenth book I have read by this author. It is also the twenty first book in the 'Detective Kane and Alton' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Cross My Heart' (book 12 in the series), 'Fallen Angel' (book 13 in the series), 'Don't Look Back (book 13.5 in the series), ' Pray For Mercy '(book 14 in the series), 'Kiss Her Goodnight' (book 15 in the series) 'Her Bleeding Heart' (book 16 in the series), 'Chase Her Shadow' (book 17 in the series),  'Their Wicked Games' (book 19 in the series) and 'Where Hidden Souls Lie' (book 20 in the series) and I would highly recommend each and every one of them!!!

This novel consists of a prologue, 50 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

OMG!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVED THIS BOOK and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS SERIES!!! D.K HOOD you just keep getting better and better!!!

This book is fantastically written and had me hooked from the first page until the last. DK Hood way of writing is perfectly evocative and she has such a creative imagination!! Even with twenty one amazing books in this action packed series she is still coming up with unique and action packed storylines that absolutely grip the reader immediately from page one to the very end!!! Hood's fantastic and evocative writing skills ensured the descriptions were so vivid, evocative and realistic I felt myself feeling the fear running through me and the hairs on my arms raise. This has got to be one of the best storylines I have ever read!!!! Just when you've read the best book in this series and you think it can't get any better BANG DK Hood does it again!! I absolutely LOVED the storyline, LOVE this series and LOVE this amazing author!!!. This book is absolutely perfect for any crime lovers as you are literally reading about crime, twists and murder!!! It just does not get better than that!!! Just seriously, I cannot say how brilliant all this book was!!! I absolutely love the fact that it is based on Halloween with the added rituals added in. It just makes everything even creepier when there's skeletons playing poker, spiders having babies all over Aunt Betty's cafe and with a killer running around hidden among the rest of the monsters running around. The storyline is packed with tension, suspense, Halloween, murder, rituals, tension and filled with twists and turns. I was absolutely shocked when everything was revealed and was not expecting it at all!!! I love the fact that after reading the amazing Detective Beth Katz' series I loved the links between the two series and love that now I have 2 amazing Series' by this epic author to look forward to reading when new books come out in either!! I genuinely thought for once I had actually worked out who it was in this amazing series but YET AGAIN DK Hood proves me wrong!! A HUGE congratulations to D.K Hood, it is getting harder and harder to shock me but you did it well!!!  D.K Hood has obviously done her research on police procedurals which is yet another bonus as I've read many crime novels where the authors make massive mistakes due to not doing enough research. This is an absolutely unputdownable page turner and I cannot wait to read the previous and future books in what is one of the best series I have ever read!!

Although this is the twenty first book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without any of the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I absolutely LOVED meeting these amazing characters again and they are all realistic and I became completely invested in them. They have become like friends/family to me as I feel like I have got to know them so well and every time I meet them again I am landed and every time I have to say Goodbye I am gutted I have to wait to greet them again. They really are one of the best teams I have ever met and I certainly would not like to get on the wrong side of them!!!!nI love that Jenna is such a strong female lead that has history and has been through so much but doesn't cower and stands strong. I have enjoyed watching her relationship with Kane has evolved and I am looking forward to going back to how they met and moving forward to see where it goes especially in regards to what happens next!!. Kane is another fantastic character that I became invested in and I adore how protective of the team, and especially Jenna, he is. Kane is someone I would move to the other side of the world of I did something to upset him!!! Kane and Jenna would do anything and everything to protect each other and THAT ladies and gents is true love and I feel honoured to have watched it develop so much!!! I also love the fact that they now have the addition of adopted son Tauri in their lives and adore seeing them as parents and how their life's are differing from before with them making sure Tauri has trusted people around him and getting home to him as often as they can. I also think it's sweet how Tauri calls them heros, especially in his kindergarden and how he is so understanding even though he is so young. The team dynamics work perfectly and I also enjoyed getting to know more about Rio, Jo, Carter , Wolfe and Rowley and I look forward to meeting them all again. Rio and Rowley did annoy me with their attitude towards a certain situation but they are forgiven as I think they are amazing and we all make stupid mistakes. There are other characters that I loved in this book and loved meeting again but I am going to leave that to you too see when you read your copy. I must say my favourites have to be Duke and Zorro though!!!! What an absolutely fantastic characters they are. I just love it when animals play such large parts in books. Regardless of whether you love or hate any of the characters they all work perfectly to make this storyline an absolutely addictive, explosive page turner!!! The majority of the characters have become like friends to me and I'm always sad to say goodbye never knowing when I'll "see" them again so I really hope the next book is being written as I speak. Hint hint 😉 DK Hood!!!

Congratulations D.K Hood on yet ANOTHER HUMONGOUS success!!! Very rarely an authors books get better but you have certainly mastered it!!! I cannot wait to get stuck into more of your books and this is exactly why you are one my favourite crime authors!!! Here's to your next guaranteed success 🥂

This book is definitely in my top 5 and considering I've read 1000's this is a HUGE achievement!!! This series is also in my top 3 ♥

Do not start this until you have cleared yours schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!

Overall an absolutely addictive, heart racing and unputdownable Halloween crime thriller that will keep you up all night.

319 pages.

This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle and £7.99 in paperback via Amazon at time of review, which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this very frightening book

i have to admit that as the evening wore on i had to stop and read something light and fluffy cos this book scared the bejesus out of me.... getting out of the shower will never be the same again.....

dave and jenna are adjusting to life with their new son tauri.... and with the advent of Halloween upon them they are hoping for a peaceful time... as if .. they live in murder central

unbeknown to them a serial killer is in their midst and has started his ritual killing...3 have to die and be buried around hallooween

when wendy calls about a prowler rio and rowley do the due diligence but find no evidence of a prowler, and offer advice some of which make wendy feel as though if she calls again nobody will come out....

but with two missing women presumed dead jenna and her team are working as many hours as they can to find the perp

his mode of operation seems to be that he enters their homes and attacks them as they get out of the shower and leave a blood trail but nothing else

time isnt on their side ...

man oh man this book spooked me good and proper and its not one to read late at night but this series just gets better and better

Another brilliant crime thriller in the Kane and Alton series.
Jenna hates Halloween and this year seems to have a reason to do so as someone is killing women in Blackwater Falls.
Two women have been killed and with the discovery of some graves, it seems the killer has been active in the past and left a triangle of graves.
Kane and Alton race against the clock to stop the third woman being killed but with little to go on, they’re worried they’ll be too late.
With a nail biting ending, this is a brilliant addition to the series.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

It's Halloween in Black Rock Falls. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane and their team are still investigating the graves that were discovered in the forest. When a link is found between the graves and a recent kidnapping in the town it becomes clear that a serial killer called the Halloween Slasher is back after a hiatus of seven years. With the town's people ultra spooked due to the time of year they have their work cut out to differentiate between pranks and serious threats.

Another great read from this series.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Jenna and Dave investigate when two girl go missing. The only evidence is the blood, too much for them to have survived. When Blackhawk, Norelle and Wolfe, discover bodies in the forest, a link to the case is discovered. If this is the Halloween slasher, then one more girl has to die to complete trio, and one of their friends is in danger!

First of all I am a huge fan of this series. I’ve read all instalments multiple times and always enjoy them.

This book was really atmospheric. The spooky, Halloween scene was built really well, with detailed descriptions. I felt like I was there and experiencing it all-although I wouldn’t fancy a visit to serial killer central!

Rio and Rowley acted out of character and were a bit unlikeable this book. Although it was good to see an only human aspect to them, rather than the perfect people they have normally seemed. Likewise Jenna and Kane as parents are also quite different, and it was good to continue reading about how they are adapting to this role while having busy lives.

I 100% recommend. 5⭐️

Again I was kept guessing right till the very end….a captivating roller coaster ride!! I can’t say enough good things about this series of books, the characters feel like family at this point. I always think I have it figured out and DK always manages to surprise me! 10 out of 10 stars!

After a break from the series, I picked back up and read entries 15-21. While there are still many things to like about the series I felt there was a shift in the tone that did not always sit well with me.
In 2 books the author put the main character in serious jeopardy for no good reason - it was not part of the plot, and just came out of the blue. It seems like this device was used solely for Dave to ride to the rescue and save Jenna. Dave has also shifted and is really kind of a douche. He constantly mansplains things to Jenna. When they are at work he takes liberties he should not be taking (in one book, as they enter the office the author writes how they go up the stairs with his hand at the small of her back - which is a protective gesture not appropriate for walking with his superior officer). And he has morphed into an alpha male (dare I say alpha hole) who constantly tells her he will protect her. This is a woman who is a former DEA agent who was undercover and has been the Sheriff of this County for quite a bit longer than he has been the Deputy. Clearly, he does not respect her, and that lack of respect is because she is female, or more specifically his female, which he plainly states at least once. When Jenna gently checks him on some of his crap, he mildly gaslights her or tells her she is wrong in feeling the way she feels. While I still like most of the characters, and the plots are good I'm not sure I like the direction the author is taking the main characters. I have listened to all of these on audiobook, and if I pick up the next one I think I will read it visually because it might be the narrator who is helping spin the characters in the direction I am picking up.

A Song For The Dead is book 21 in the Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood. The Detective Kane and Alton series is one of my very favorite series. I don't know how D.K. Hood does it, but the stories get better and better! A Song For The Dead is extra creepy because it's based on a serial killer who strikes every Halloween. Halloween is already creepy enough with all of the people in disguises, wearing masks, scary decorations, and people trying their best to scare each other!! When you add a serial killer to that this book will stick with you for quite awhile!

The serial killer follows the women he wants to kill and learns their routines. He goes into their house when they're gone and makes a plan of attack. He also often cleans, organizes their closets, makes a fire, makes coffee, etc. The victim's often think their roommate did something nice or they think they're imagining things. The day of the murder, the killer waits in the shadows until the victim gets into the shower. Once the water is running he gets ready to strike and writes a message in the steamed up mirror. When the woman steps out of the shower and is drying off, he waits until she sees the message in the mirror, and then he strikes! He slashes their throats and kills them quickly.

When a report of a missing woman comes in to the station, Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane, head to the scene. It's a house in a remote area and there's no sign of a body, but lots of blood and the smell of death! Freya Richardson is gone but there's no way she could be alive with all of the blood in the bathroom. A hiker comes across 3 graves in the woods and the women have been killed by a slash across their neck. They were killed about 7 years ago and each was buried with a phone that wasn't theirs. The killer recorded the entire murder on the phone that they're buried with. Who is doing this and why? Is the Halloween slasher back 7 years later? The cold case was never solved as the killings stopped. Was the person in prison? Were they sick? Why wait 7 years to kill again? Are the cases related?

The killer always killed 3 women every Halloween. He buried them into the shape of a triangle side by side. Why was this significant to the killer? Why were these 3 women chosen? If the same killer is back, there will be 2 more women that disappear in similar fashion to Freya. He always kills 3 before Halloween. Kane and Alton have their work cut out for them tracking this serial killer as no one ever sees anyone out of the ordinary at the scenes. Why does the killer clean first? Why don't the women notice they're being followed when he tracks them to learn their routine? The killer is getting overconfident that he'll never be caught. Will he make a mistake? Will Kane and Alton be able to catch him before he kills a friend of theirs? A Song For The Dead will have you reading at breakneck speed to find out what happens! I absolutely loved the creepy setting of Halloween for this book and will think twice when getting out of the shower from now on! If there's a message on my mirror you'll hear me scream no matter where you live!

I rate A Song For The Dead 5 stars with my very highest recommendation! The only warning I'll give is make sure you have time to read when you start the book because you won't be able to stop! I can't wait for the next book in the series and I'm so glad Kane and Alton are now parents to Tauri! The new dynamic only adds to the series. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of A Song For The Dead in exchange for a fair review. #ASongForTheDead

The twenty first book in the series & it’s a testament to how good they are that I’m still eagerly awaiting the next. The books can be read on their own but I love the dynamics that have developed between the characters throughout the series. This wasn’t my favourite of the series but it was still a very good murder mystery, which I devoured in two sittings & I’m glad I read it during the day as it was scary especially as the story is set at the end of October & Halloween. A well written, engrossing murder mystery, the characters have depth & the pace is good. Roll on book twenty two
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

You know nothing good can come when it is Halloween in Serial Killer Central. This book starts out immediately with the creep factor. Freya feels like someone is following her home, but she feels safe once she is home behind a locked door. She is not safe. She gets out of the shower to find a message written in the condensation on the mirror - I'm going to kill you. No showers for me while I am home alone. This one really creeped me out, even more than usual. It was about a serial killer, of course, but the killer was sadistic, ritualistic and a stalker to boot. I would highly suggest reading this one in the daytime. Even the town's decorations are creepy.

I love this crew in Black Rock Falls. They tend to attract serial killers to Serial Killer Central. However, in my opinion these psychopaths have picked the wrong place to haunt since the dream team in law enforcement will be on the job in no time flat. As is always the case in this series, the pace is perfect - not too slow and not too fast. The mystery is good. You are given several suspects, but it is never completely obvious who the culprit may be. I am enjoying the new family dynamics with Jenna Alton and David Kane as they have added their son, Tauri, to their family, which provides a little break from the macabre that we encounter in this series. This is another one in the winner column for the Kane and Alton series.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I didn't like this! I mean it was terrifying! The viewpoint from the killers - blinking chilling and then with Patricia narrating the audiobook - she gave it the extra chill factor *shudder*

Seriously, I did enjoy it! Jenna and Dave have a lot more at stake now with a child, and you feel the worry when they go out on the cases! I also felt really upset with Rio and Rowley with their behaviour on one of the call outs - it really wasn't like them to be so dismissive!

Black Rock Falls should just close down over Halloween, they never have any peace! New people should be banned, and a curfew in place. That way no should die! Right?!?!

Another case that Ms Hood has twisted me up in knots. It was the fact, we knew who it was, but didn't. We knew who these girls were talking to were someone we knew, but we didn't know who they were, just so worrying and it makes me want to go home and never speak to anyone ever again! That is the power of the writing I have in front of me. The sneaking around the house, the moving of things, the messages, I hated it all because it played on every fear you have being home alone. It was fantastically done though! I really did enjoy this book, but thank god I listened to it in the day time!!!

A serial killer on the loose, it's almost Halloween and there is constant mist rolling in. Things are going bump in the night and I'm reading during a thunderstorm, a loud bang vibrated my windows and I nearly fell off my chair as the knife came down.
What a great setting to aid in the scariness of this story.
Sheriff Alton and her team are slowly putting the pieces together and lining up the suspects. Is it one of them or just a bunch of red herrings.
Women are going missing in threes, no bodies just an obvious murder scene. Bodies from seven years have been uncovered. Are they connected?
We have a glimpse into the private lives of these amazing characters, but nothing distracts from the case at hand.
I was riveted and couldn't put my kindle down. Thanks to NetGalley for an early read. I highly recommend this series and can't wait for the next one.

Wow wow wow. This author has hit another one out of the park. I adore the main characters in this series and each book brings a unique and spinechilling plot. This one was terrifying! Every girl living alone a worst fear!! Terror and heart stopping throughout. I could not put this one down. Absolutely brilliant and bursting with suspense. This one will keep you reading way too late. I loved the Halloween setting and atmosphere it gave this book some extra spine tingles. This one needs to go on your must read list!

“A Song for the Dead" by D.K. Hood is a gripping addition to the Detectives Kane and Alton series, delivering a suspenseful tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The author skillfully weaves a complex web of mystery, blending tension and intrigue throughout. The Halloween backdrop adds an extra layer of spookiness to the narrative, enhancing the overall atmosphere.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane are well-developed characters with a dynamic partnership, making them engaging protagonists. The plot unfolds with unexpected twists and turns, keeping readers guessing until the very end. Hood masterfully builds suspense, creating a palpable sense of urgency as the detectives race against time to solve the case.
The writing is evocative, painting vivid imagery of the eerie small town of Black Rock Falls. The interconnectedness of past and present crimes adds depth to the storyline. Although the 21st installment in the series, the book stands alone well, making it accessible to new readers.
While the pacing is generally excellent, some sections felt a bit rushed, hindering the full exploration of certain character dynamics. Overall, "A Song for the Dead" is a solid four-star read for fans of thrilling crime fiction, combining mystery, suspense, and well-crafted characters.

Thanks to Ms Hood, the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I

It's Halloween in Black Rock Falls so what could possibly go wrong!
Brilliantly written you can feel the dampness of the fog and the fear of the victims
Although we are on our 21st visit here with Jenna and co., who by now feel like old friends, the plot is as fresh as always.

Halloween in Black Rock Falls, what could go wrong...? Yes, everything. A mysterious serial killer has killed before, then disappeared, only to kill again. He kills three women. It is Halloween again and he needs to kill. But who is he, who is he planning on killing, and can they stop him?

Kane and Alton are living their new lives as parents which adds some new twists to their lives, but what does not change are the amount of serial killers in and around town. As gritty, bloody, and brutal as ever, yet somehow poetic and mysterious, which can only be understood by reading the book. A great read by a fantastic author!

A Song for the Dead by D.K. Hood is the latest installment to the Alton/Kane series. The setting takes place in Black rock falls around the eerie Halloween backdrop of misty roads and spooky decorations. The team must call upon their FBI friends to assist with stopping of a murderer that is killing in 3s and women are disappearing from their town.
This story is a suspenseful, twisty mystery that leaves you clenching all of your muscles and needing to remind yourself to relax and breathe. There are many twists and leaves you not quite sure who the suspect really should be.
It is a fast paced, gripping novel and series that i highly recommend to any thriller/mystery reader.
Thank you to D.K Hood, the publisher as well as NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

When a new Kane and Alton book comes out I just have to stop everything and read it. This one was incredibly atmospheric and just really drew you in with the Halloween spirit I liked the way that they are building the culture relationship with their new son and how they are all learning at the same time.

The crime itself got you thinking and I loved how it got resolved.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

DK Hood did not disappoint with this Halloween thriller! Ups and downs and many twists but an entertaining read! Sheriff Jenna and Dave are the best in keeping Black Rock Falls safe! Their adopted son Tauri adds a new dimension to their family.

Halloween is spooky in Black. Rock Falls but this year it's especially creepy. Is Jenna's mind getting the best of her or is the killer following her and is she next? Read and find out just what happens on their son's first holloween.

D.K. Hood is the queen of depravity and disquiet!! I had to look up synonyms for sinister because this series sends chills down my spine.
I love the fact that my heart pounded and I jumped at every little noise while devouring the latest thriller by Hood.
A perverted sicko is using Halloween to murder young women fresh from their showers.
The spookiness oozes out of every chapter and I loved every minute of it.
Kane still makes me swoon with his steely eyed accuracy and the whole gang worked together to solve the heinous crimes.
This small Montana town continues to be murder capital of the west.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the early read.
