The Virtue We Lost

Rate this book
Some bonds are formed through love; ours was forged in mutual hate. At least, that's what I believed about Kyle Hill and me.
I always thought he had a metal plate where his heart should be, despising everything I stood for—especially after he shattered my heart into pieces. Yet, despite the years that have passed, I could never shake him from my mind, my original stalker.
Now, with my lunatic ex after me, Kyle has offered his protection.
But can I survive him a second time?

4.5 ★ rating for NEW BABIES???

sigh... let's start the review.

when i read 'the darkness we share' both abby and kyle intrigued me though i was very confused by both their behaviors. growing to love them in their own book was THE best thing i've done all year long thus far and i know it'll stay in the top.

🍀 abby, my baby, my sweet girl with enounce mommy issues for me to feel understood by. right off the bat i knew i was going to relate to her, the way she thought of herself, the way she made herself adaptable to what everyone thought of her while disregarding her own feelings?! i was heartbroken and slowly shed some tears for my girl. however she was strong, so very strong - and such a badass. i mean she's a biker girl y'all, she has the toughness, she just needed a little push to see it. ( thanks kyle ) throughout the book i saw more glimpses of myself through her than i would've ever thought possible and for that only, she enters the top 20 fmcs of the year.

HER LOVE FOR PETER PARKER !!!!!!!!!!

*quote from the book coming*

"My body has never been a home; it's more of a curse. Like decaying meat, alive but tormenting my soul with its putrid dead essence relentlessly. I was never good enough. I'm sick of myself most of the time, feeling every part of me drowned in repugnance. I hate myself, and no one can despise me more than I do."

like, ow?!

🔪 kyle, sweet boy, fucking monstrous being - i loved him so much. unlike my feelings for abby, i was skeptical of kyle at the beginning. possessive and obsessive but doesn't like it...? sure enough that was him with her. the amount of pain he carried with him, the feelings he shut down - i felt for him. loving him was a process for sure, but if there's one thing juv can do, it's making me love her MMCs regardless of how i felt from them at the beginning.

💚 overall, kyleabby were a painful little experience that shattered my heart and put it back together, something i was expecting but it also took me by surprise. considering i'm not usually a fan of the 'family friends get together' thing, loving kyleabby made me realize that maybe, maybeee, it's not as bad as i thought.

Let me start off by saying that this could have spoiler despite me trying to avoid them :D it’s also my review for the beta & arc version of this wonderful book.

‘My body has never been a home; it's more of a curse. Like decaying meat, alive but tormenting my soul with its putrid dead essence relentlessly.’

Oh, Abby.
She has been relatable since the very first moment of this book. And not only is she relatable but she’s also admirable. Despite the fact that she went through hell and back she never stopped being the caring, sweet & strong person she grew up being. Abigail also made clear that you can be caring & sweet while still being a badass that doesn’t take anyone’s shit. I absolutely adored the bonds she formed with all the other evermore girls, loved that she finally had the genuine friendships she always wished for. I’m also an absolute sucker for when characters in books have unique hobbies and interests and with Abby it was shooting with an arrow or loving the marvel universe and manga.

“I cried when I was born. I cried when my father died. I was once someone who let my emotions get in the way, Abby, but I grew up knowing what that could be like. I decided it wasn’t the life for me.”

Kyle is my fellow mommy-issues person (along with Taylor). His character speaks to me so incredibly much which is why I’m so glad he was created. The way his upbringing made him to this logical, feelings-avoiding person was all too familiar and the way a lot of people deal with their trauma as well. I loved that we could see that trauma does not always make a person nice, shy and emotional but angry and rational.

‘I always believed that two souls linked by a thread were destined to be together, and when separated, they lived unhappy lives. Just like with Akai Ito, every time I tried to separate myself from Ky, I was unhappy. Because he is my Akai Ito. Since our birth, from the moment he gave me my first smile simply by existing. I was his and he was mine, like two missing pieces finding each other. No matter how many times we’ve been apart or faced challenges, we always find our way back to each other.’

Due to their parents being friends there has never been a time where they were not part of each other’s life. While their younger siblings formed a bond of love and friendship, Kyle and Abigail started disliking each other yet they were not to be separated. It was fate or how Abby called it: “akai ito”. And I think you can actually feel their all-consuming love on the pages. I know I did. Kyle noticed things about Abigail not even her own parents noticed such as her playing with her food so she gets away with not eating anything. He made sure she ate, made sure she took care of her health and gave her the control back she lost at the hands of vile men. All that while controlling herself which was fun to read about :D

In this book we got a lot of crumbs of the other couples and characters and while some might think it was too much I think it was peak found-family. They all got each other’s backs, without questions asked.
Juv really outdid herself with all the bonds that have been formed through the books. I also noticed how much the writing improves with every book and I couldn’t be prouder🤍

First of all I need to admit some shocking news to my friends who know me well and who know how much I love this series, The Virtue We Lost has become my favorite book of Evermore! Yes my precious ceciconnors have dropped in the ranking BUT I CAN EXPLAIN!

First of all, I really loved how much Juv developed this couple, I rarely manage to like childhood friends as a couple, but the way Juv made Abby and Kyle soulmates, their connection and the intense way, I couldn't help but put them both in my top 1.

And the way Kyle is for me the craziest and most possessive in the series made everything better, he is so intense and so intelligent, the perfect combination because I love a hot nerdy blonde! And my girl Abby just suffered a lot, I'm glad she found her happy ending, Juv knew how to write her well, few people develop complex characters with disorders and abusive relationships so well and Juv did it in a way that makes us want to save Abby

And of course what I love most and what caught my attention in this series is FOUND FAMILY, it had crumbs of all the couples and glimpses of futures, it has twists, it has fights, it has sad moments, cute moments, funny moments and friendship, it has everything I love in a reading, and of course as always Juv gives us a crazy and thought-provoking epilogue that makes you gnaw wanting the next one, because that's Evermore, it's madness, insanity and that beautiful family bond that makes you feel good, thank you for Kyabby Juv who are now officially the couple of my favorite book in the saga

Grateful to say i received an ARC for this book. Now, this book is about kyle and abby and it was actually SO good. Kyle and abby have now become one of my favourites in this series. The writing has improved a lot from the previous books!

I loved their relationship from the beginning, like how harvin and taylor were always attached to the hip during childhood but kyle and abby were at odds with each other, it was so cute🥺. Abby actually ended up being my favourite in this book over kyle. Her character is someone who a lot of people can relate to. I honestly loved how she had her insecurities but was always kind and brave and resilient and wouldn’t take shit from people unnecessarily. Kyle was amazing too with the way he absolutely loved her🎀. Their relationship was full of love and so far they’re the cutest couple haha.

As usual this book had a lot of drama going on with the side characters too. Love how they’re all one big fam and they all have each other’s backs🥺. But honestly it was a bit hard to keep up with all the other characters and so much of their story going on in this book and in the others😅. Also, i wasn’t sure if i should write this or not but…. Its a little off putting to me how taylor’s not a girls girl at all and how nobody seems to mind it😭 like i love her but if you know that someone who you grew up is in love with a man you dont go and start dating said man and only brush it off as a one sided obsession from the other girls part like😭. It made me feel a bit frustrated for audrey how no one took her seriously until she started lashing out and desperately needed help. Justice for audrey in the following books haha✊. I can’t wait for her and seths book! Seth honestly intrigues me so much i just know he’s gonna be my favourite out of all the boys🤭. But i just hope that he can finally lock on now coz my man needs to start making his moves on HIS girl and not on the other’s😒. I think next is tay and harvin then seth and audrey. Im excited for tays book too after the epilogue🤭🤭. And that final epilogue had me shook i was not expecting that couple but im excited hehe i just hope their book is after tayharvin and sethaudreys because i cant wait that long😭.

Anywayyyy good job to the author! This was a fun read and suprisingly i never felt the need to take a break from reading (which is very common for me since im a procrastinator).

"You may hate me, but you can never forget me."

I want to go into more detail by saying that this book is nothing, NOTHING, like you expect when you read other books in the saga because Kyabby's books are overlooked, but when you read them, you're like, "WHY WASN'T I EXCITED FOR THEM?!"

The depth of each character!!

"When I made excuses not to go out because I was ashamed of my body. When I ran on the treadmill until I fainted. When I skipped dinner because I thought it would help. And then, when I started pretending to eat, spreading the food around on the plate so no one would notice I hadn't actually touched it. When I burned."

For sure, I think a lot of girls felt like Abby and there was a lot of humanization in her! I wanted to shout about how our mommy issues were the same; I love my mom even when I hate her. I think Abby showed me that the past is just the past, and the best revenge is living your life in the best way possible.

This book made it into my top 3 of this Evermore saga, maybe even into my top 10 of all time? I don't know, but Abby's words still stick with me.

Now let’s talk about the side character. Audrey urgently needs help. I think by the end of the book she’s better, but those actions really got on my nerves because she almost made Julie lose the baby!!! That was the limit for me; we need to talk about how that was the most selfish thing she did! I like her and all, but for me, that crossed the line! Taylor isn't my favorite character in Evermore, but I wouldn't mind if she gave Audrey a piece of her mind ASAP.

I'm excited about Mia and Zane. I think Mia is definitely someone I want to read about haha she has such an animated and quirky personality, I want to know more about how the world was introduced to her.

Thank you so much, Juv! You're always improving your books.

Firstly can I talk about how much I love the title and cover lol

To start the tropes already got me so excited for this book and it was so good omg??? Probably the best book in the series so far. The storytelling and characterisation has been done really well. Because I've been here since the debut release, seeing this growth makes me feel a different type of joy.

I love abby so much, my strong baby girl, and also because i always have a soft corner for gentle yet fierce heroines. I found her more relatable compared to the other fmcs of the series in many ways.

Do I even need to say anything about Kyle. He's hot af seriously. Although he made a lot of mistakes like it is expected of dark romance mmcs to do, his growth and grovelling really won him a place in my heart. And in certain ways I also understand why he was the way he was so I forgave him quite easily (oops) plus the way he loved abby really made loving him effortless.

And omg the girls and their friendship was honestly one of the best parts of this book. I LOVE SISTERHOOD. Some of the couples really made me wanna reread their book so bad. Their growing family made me tear up a bit.

Yup, this was a good one the last bit really has me excited for the next work.

If perfection was a thing? It would hands down be this book. I've never been thought of giving a book 5 star after just being 10% in but this book is certainly my exception. Idk how it happened but I fell for Abby and Kyle so hard and fast almost like insta love but the solid connection and love I have for them is just insanely unrealistic.

Abby my baby, she is genuinely my most me character as if I was seeing myself in a mirror her journey her trauma the way she fought so hard to survive and then became so strong n saved herself was truly one of the most amazing thing I've ever came across. She never needed anyone to save her because she saved herself!!!!!! LITERALLY MY BEST GIRL I wanna hug her so bad and tell her that I SEE HER 😣😣😣

Kyle my fav guy fr, I've no words to describe him he was just so imperfectly perfect that words won't do any justice to his character. He's one of the best mmc I've ever read about. The way I instantly fell for him was crazy. It was his way of always making Abby his no.1 priority that made me fall so hard and freckles counting AHHHHHHHH.

AbbyKyle are so so so perfect for each other that heart is so full. The whole Akai ito theory was my fav part hands down.

so glad that son of a b cole dıəd!!!!! Next it's nico and Paulina's turn 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Seth and Audrey ahhh I'm so scared for ml Audrey I just hope she gets the UNCONDITIONAL love she deserves 🤞🏼😭

Also the ending hello??!?!?!? Taylor Harvin wth pregnant wth I NEED THE NEXT BOOK pls

Atp idk who's book I want more mia's audrey's or taylor's 😭😭😭

The Virtue We Lost by Juv | 🕷️ 🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️ +

Tropes: Grumpy x Sunshine, Stalker, Bikers, Childhood Enemies to Lovers, Secret Pining, Second-ish Chances, dub-con

The first thing I have to shout is Rainy love confessions?????? Girl you had me on my knees with that one
By far, I say that this is one of the best couples in Evermore. I’ve been following Juv’s work since the beginning, and I can confidently say that while they were rarely featured in other books, Abigail and Kyle are the GOAT couple in the series. They delivered everything I love in one book and more.

Abigail’s personality and mentality were the things I could relate to the most. Her resilience and inner strength spoke deeply with me. And Kyle, let’s just say that many moments had me laughing out loud and even blushing. Who would have thought that a quiet man also had his quirks?

I loved the geek references in the book; they made it even more exciting. The fact that they are each other’s Akai Ito made me melt even more.

Evermore has become one of my comfort series, and this book fed my found family trope cravings. The way Juv intertwines these characters’ pasts and presents is nothing short of masterful. The chemistry between Abigail and Kyle is electric, and their journey from childhood enemies to lovers had me obsessed.

I thank Juv for the opportunity to participate in the ARC and for being so patient with my DMs in general. You deserve more love. Your ability to create such compelling and relatable characters is truly a gift.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

ARC REVIEW :

my sweet Abigail.
you deserves all the love of the universe.
this is the fourth book in the Evermore series, and Juv didn't disappoint me.
I recognize myself in Abigail more than I wanted. in her insecurities, in her eating disorders, in her lack of worth...
this universe is dark, but the found family inside is sincerely one of the most well written I ever saw.
every book is connected, we learned a lot about each characters ( and we have a LOT OF THEM and their relationships between them ), the betrayals ? you could sense the knife inside your heart.

this book, was heartbreaking because of a lot of things, first the character of Abigail. Harvin and Taylor. and of course, Kyle ... who grew up too soon.
I really can't wait for you to start this serie because trust me you miss really something.
I can't wait for the next books because omg the next couples ??? it's going to be crazyyyy

thank you again Juv ily <3
