Still patiently waiting for the invention of the mobile phone, GPS, Google maps and common sense, in book three of the series, Andy has a veritable Tour de Farce of the UK and Europe on four very different journeys taken on three very different motorcycles.
Filled with madcap adventure and humor, this true-life story tells of travel in an era long gone, when we read paper maps like pirates on the high seas, and friends were made and lost along roads less traveled.
For armchair adventurers who like their travels with a twist of disaster, Andy's misguided misadventures deliver the usual laughs on the highway to hell. It's a cautionary tale told by one of the most hapless wanderers.
Along with many like-minded souls, 2020 was the year I finally broke free of the constraints of life in corporate America. Fueled by a renewed passion and creativity I decided to pursue my new life as a full-time author.
Originally from Southport in England my wife, Paula, and I, lived and worked in the USA for 15 wonderful years, and then moved to Spain to enjoy a quiet life in the endless sunshine of the Mediterranean. Instead, we ended up embroiled in the tribulations of the pandemic. I wrote and self-published my first book “Mistakes Were Made” after that (mis) adventure.
At heart always British, we loved living in the U.S.A but will never vocalize the American pronunciations of basil, banana, or tomato. We now live with our two dogs in leafy Somerset, land of apples, cider, and weather so perpetually wet, ‘wellies’ are considered formal wear.

I've followed Andy's travels to Byzantium and the Arctic Circle, so I was confident I'd enjoy this book too. I wasn't wrong. This book is a collection of adventures on various different bikes, and with different traveling companions. I got the feeling that some of his pillion passengers hadn't realized what they were letting themselves in for.... You have to remember that this was a time before cell phones and GPS. There was no single currency in Europe, and no ATMs. So even a simple trip to the South of France or Italy could be quite an adventure. Add in the fact that some of Andy's bikes were not totally reliable, and you get some hair raising and hilarious events. You don't have to be a motorcycle enthusiast to enjoy this book. (I'm not). Anyone who enjoys travel memoirs and youthful follies will love this entertaining book.
Having never been a book reader, maybe one a year when I'm holiday. I stumbled upon a fast bike to Byzantium a couple of months ago. I have now just completed the sixth book of Andy's travels and found this one the most amusing, Andy's dry, down to earth humour shines through in the print, I would recommend the six travelogue books.
Ever felt after reading a book that you could do better? That's how I felt after finishing this travelogue. Pretty non descriptive, obviously copied from diary entries,it lacks any kind of "life" or any sense of adventure, which defeats the object of the exercise. And no wonder "Emma "didn't want to speak to him after the Italian trip-pillions get easily bored sat for hours with nothing to do, and get tetchy if the pilot insists on pushing on, like they're a bomber pilot who has to drop his load despite half a wing hanging off. Is I was her,I would have smacked him and caught a flight home, regardless of cost. All in all, three stars probably a bit generous of me.

This is the third volume of the authors travels in the UK and the European continent. As in the other books the author entertains with his misadventures and stories of interesting locales and scenery. If you like motorcycle travel books, these are good ones. Spoiler alert!! He miraculously gets the girl in the end!
